Chapter five:

Sans gets the machine all set up once more. "Okay. I can put in the information so it'll open up to your world... Hopefully..."

"I believe in you and the work you do."

Sans shifts nervously feeling a little pressure from that. He turns the machine on making sure the destination is chosen. He can feel the vibrations of the machine as the portal opens.

The portal becomes like a window into another basement lab, a Sans in a blue hoodie with a grey hood enters the lab curious though worried.

UT Papyrus gasps happily at seeing his own Sans.

"Go!" Sturdytale Sans calls to UT Papyrus. "It won't hold for much longer!" He sees UT Papyrus look to him only to smile warmly. He finds himself smiling back at the other.

"Goodbye. You are an amazing Sans. And don't forget that." With that UT Papyrus heads for the portal.

"And you're a wonderful Papyrus. Thank you for all that you did. Goodbye." ST Sans responds and catches a final glance from UT Papyrus, before the other makes it through the portal.

The portal trembles after UT Papyrus makes it through.

"Don't come close!" UT Papyrus warns his own brother. "It's unstable! I'll tell you all that happened just be careful. I don't want you to get stuck in another world."

Undertale Sanss first sentence of his response is the last Sturdytale Sans hears of the two, before the portal closes for good. "Well I guess it shows I probably shouldn't mess with traveling to other worlds."

For a few moments ST Sans stands there by the machine that has lost all power. He is alone in his lab, which feels ominously silent and cold. He picks up the sheet, makes sure nothing will start a fire, then he covers the machine. He decides it'd be best to do what UT Sans said he'd do. He won't be trying things linked with other worlds anymore.

It definitely is too risky and unpredictable to safely do anything with it.

Sans moves away from the machine taking a moment to just let the silence consume him. Instinctively he brings a hand up to where his scarred eye is. He touches it with his finger tips, feeling the holes of missing bone that won't grow back. He shuts his good eye tight, as the memory of the first moment of attack flashes in his mind. He lowers his hand almost tossing it to his side. He opens his good eye half way finding that his head tilted down. He is looking at the floor with his feet just barely being seen. He takes a very distinct deep breath trying to calm himself down. He glances around wondering what other kinds of projects he should do.

Papyrus makes it home after a busy day as the sentry for both his and Sanss stations. He had finished training earlier than when his shift ended. So he used up the last bit of time for some more money. He did make sure to grab Sanss stuff from the sentry post, well the stuff his brother wanted. He opens the front door stepping inside. "Sans? I'm back!" He calls out after shutting the door. He glances around from where he stands. His call has been met with silence. He stomps off snow clinging to the bottom of his choice of footwear. He, having Sanss stuff in his inventory which he'll give him later, then begins his search around the house for his brother. He tries the kitchen to find no one then the bedrooms and bathroom. He wonders if his brother had actually gone to his basement lab. So he heads to it and looks inside. He feels some relief at seeing his brother. "What are you working on?" He moves further in as his brother turns to him.

"I thought I'd finish a little project I left incomplete." Sans explains and shows the small device to his brother. "It's a device that can fly while streaming video back to a tablet I have. I was thinking of checking out what some areas look like where we can't reach them. I just need some parts for a light for darker areas."

"Do you want to go and get the parts then?" Papyrus suggests with his smile growing at seeing his brother doing okay.

"Not now." Sans puts the device down. "I wanna spend some time relaxing. With you."

"Of course." Papyrus gently picks him up under his armpits. He holds him close as Sans leans against him. He turns to take him back to the main part of their home.

"Papyrus?"

"Yeah?" Papyrus pauses and turns to look at Sans meeting his eye.

"I was thinking... Perhaps could you come with me tomorrow? I am a bit nervous about going to the lab." Sans tells his brother looking at him the whole time. "Its just an idea that way I wouldn't have to worry about the dogs until I feel ready. Plus I'd feel a lot safer with you. Less likely to turn around and go home."

Papyrus gently smiles. "I'd be happy to take you." He leans down and nuzzles the other. He pulls back to smile at the others face. "So you can do what you feel like you need to. You really don't need to rush yourself if you don't want to. If you don't feel like you can do it then there will be no bad judgement over it."

"Heh." Sans smiles happily. "Thanks bro."

"Anytime brother." Papyrus takes him back to the main part of their home to relax.

The next day...

Sans arrives at the lab having walked there with Papyrus. He wanted his brother with him for protection to make him feel safer. He glances up at the building and for a moment wonders if he still should do this. He glances back to his brother, who looks encouragingly, momentarily thinking about going home. He closes his eye taking a breath and turns back to the entrance. He can do this and it's clear that his brother is ready to let him do what he picks. He opens his eye and heads closer knocking on the door. He waits a few moments then the door swings open upwards. He heads inside the brightly lit lab. He sees scattered tables with projects, parts, equipment, and stacks of books with paper to write on. He also sees a big screen that's turned off with a chair in front of it, a fridge, a bag of dog food, and a bulletin board with blueprints stuck to it. He doesn't spot Alphys right away. "Hello?" He calls only to hear another door open.

Alphys walks out of a door further in the lab and heads to the main room. She has slightly large round red glasses, an unbuttoned white long sleeved lab coat with some stains from her work, a black tank top, black sweatpants, and black slipper like boots. She blinks at Sans for a moment. "O-Oh! H-Hello."

"Hey Alphys." Sans offers a friendly smile trying to fight the urge to pull his hood over his injured eye. "I was wondering if you needed someone else to work here in the lab with you."

Alphys thinks for a moment. "W-Well it w-would be n-nice to h-have help." She admits shifting her feet. "Y-You could h-help with the p-projects up h-here. Just p-promise you w-won't go d-downstairs."

"Okay." Sans feels a bit confused though he tries to brush it off. He figures maybe it's where Alphys has her private things. He does know she also lives at the lab so it'd make sense. If he was in her position he wouldn't want someone to go snooping there. He does know Alphys though it has been awhile since they last even spoke.

"G-Great! I-I've got a-a small project to d-do in another a-area." Alphys tells Sans. "Y-You can s-start t-tomorrow so I can get t-things ready. I-I have it all s-set up for o-one right now."

"Okay. Sure." Sans nods his head to this. "Do you have parts for a light?"

"O-Oh! Yes I d-do!" Alphys grabs the parts then hands them to Sans who thanks her. "G-Got your o-own project?"

"One I'm almost done." Sans confirms to her. "What do I owe you for these?"

"N-Nothing." Alphys waves it off. "T-Think of it a-as a welcome gift. A-And something t-to say it's g-good that y-you're out o-of the hospital." She adds pushing her glasses up as they slightly slide down.

Sans smiles softly to her. "Thanks."

"N-No problem."

Sans leaves with a promise to return tomorrow. "I did it!" He tells his brother after exiting the lab. He can see his brothers eyes shine with happiness and pride. He can sense it it's so strong as if it's magic waves coming from Papyrus. "Tomorrow I'll be working at the lab. And Alphys gave me the parts I need to finish the flying device."

"I knew you could do it." Papyrus gently pats his brothers back still grinning. "And today after my work is done we can test out your flying device."

"I'd like that." Sans heads back to Snowdin with his brother while carrying the parts. He knows that his brother will still take him to work, understanding his fear won't go away very easily. He wonders if he'll ever get over his fear of walking around alone.

"When we get home I will need to head off to work." Papyrus informs Sans who turns to him. He really wants to keep Sans happy and won't force him to go to work if he isn't feeling up to it. He does hope that work at the lab might help him with his fears. He wants Sans to live the best life he can and he'll support him all the way.

"Okay." Sans confirms with a nod. He heads to his personal lab after parting ways with Papyrus at their home. He begins work on the light. He puts the pieces together. He gets to the point setting up the wires so it can light up trying to focus. He connects one to the part he set up to respond to when he wants it on. He carefully makes sure that it's positioned safely and well. He connects the next and keeps going until all the parts are ready. He'll just have to put them into the spot chosen for the light. He moves them gently putting one part in at a time. He screws on the plastic cover after getting the bulb in. He takes a step back to observe what he's created.

The device has blades on the top, for flight, connected to the middle of the box part below. It's box body is grey due to being made out of metal. It has the opening for the camera and the light is underneath the camera. It has a leg on each corner holding it a little off the table, plus so when it lands it doesn't land on the bottom of the body. Since the electrical parts are in the body. It is just small enough to carry in Sanss arms.

Sans wants to test it all out though he knows he probably should wait for his brother. He heads back to the mid part of the house. He lays on the couch and finds his eye slip closed. He is inside and away from everyone. He doesn't have a worry at all. He opens his eye only to see himself in waterfall. He hears maniacal laughter before the dog that attacked him steps into view in front of him. He takes a few steps back with the other advancing.

Dogermy smirks at him. "You really think you're safe? The danger out there is always waiting for you." He laughs once more as Sans trips over a rock falling onto his butt. He moves closer and leans over him. "You can never escape me." He opens his mouth with a snarl showing his sharp teeth.

Sans suddenly jolts finding the scenery change as well as that he's on the ground. He glances around spotting the couch he must have fallen off, probably due to tossing and turning, the tv, and the interior of the home he shares with his brother. He gets up and takes a few deep breaths to calm his racing soul a bit. He glances to the front door, and in panic that an enemy might come in he races over to make sure it's locked. He feels some relief when it is indeed locked. He turns away from it quickly scanning the house though it is very quiet telling him he is alone. He gives himself a few moments to calm a little more before moving. He begins pacing behind the couch with his hand to his chin... Wondering if he rushed himself and that he isn't ready to go out to work. He now has doubts that he'll be able to even go to work. He worries that he truly made a mistake with that. He doesn't want to go outside feeling like there really is danger out there. He feels more vulnerable since he is alone. He can't decide if he should quit the job for now, he's thinks that Alphys would surely understand, or if he really should go for it.
