Chapter six:
Papyrus arrives home and looks around. He hopes to be able to spot his brother and he moves further inside. He smiles as Sans peeks up from laying on the couch, so he's looking over the back of the couch. "Hey brother." He greets as Sans moves further up seeing it's his brother.
"Welcome home Paps!" Sans climbs off the couch then heads over to his brother. He is brought into a greeting hug. He hugs his brother back. "Did you have a good day?"
"The day went by rather well brother." Papyrus informs his brother. "What about you? How did you do?"
"Okay. I have the thing ready." Sans informs him gesturing to the device.
"Then let's go fly it shall we?" Papyrus offers after looking to the device Sans has mentioned. "And do not fear brother. I'll be with you the whole time. So nothing will happen while you're under my watch."
Sans finds himself smiling at this. He truly is grateful for his brother who has helped so much. "Thanks bro." He finds himself carried over in one of Papyruss arms, so the other can pick up the device.
"How about we try in waterfall?" Papyrus offers glancing to Sans who is still in his arm. "We'll probably have more space there without the trees."
"Sure." Sans agrees so Papyrus heads for the front door. He takes a slight breath preparing himself mentally as they head outside. He doesn't dare look around feeling a fear of seeing something that might trigger him. He doesn't want to make his brother worry more, or make them have to retreat into the house. He feels some relief when they make it to the waterfall area.
Papyrus sets Sans down when they come to a good open area. He also gently puts the flying device down. "Okay." He looks to his brother. "Why don't you show me how it works?"
Sans pulls the controller out of his inventory. He has a screen between the controls so they can see what the camera sees. "We use this." He hears Papyrus look at it as he stands beside him. He presses the start button.
The screen flicks on to show the cameras view, and the sound of the blades spinning. The device lifts up off of the ground.
Sans uses one button to command it to fly high which it quickly does. He and Papyrus watch the screen as they get an arial view of the area.
"Wow!" Papyrus gasps taking in the image on the screen. He hadn't seen an image from such height before and he must admit its stunning.
Sans uses other buttons to move the device around checking out different areas. He finds what looks like a dark cave and switches the light on.
The light illuminates part of the cave showing a bunch of crystals inside.
Papyrus glances up looking to the darkness of the area above them. "What do you think is up there?" He questions gesturing when Sans glances to him.
Sans looks up as well finding himself a bit curious like his brother. "Let's find out." He offers and sends the device higher. He goes cautiously as it enters the darker area. He makes sure to try to watch out for anything that might smash into the device.
So far it just looks like more rocks and crystals hidden in the darkness.
Sans keeps it going up and they don't find much else. He is doubting that there's even a way out up this way. "Doesn't look like much." He admits and starts to bring his device back down. He doesn't want to have it fall from loosing signal or go out of control. He isn't sure the range, or what will happen if he goes outside that range.
Machines can have strange reactions to loosing signal.
"That's okay." Papyrus assures his brother patting him on his shoulder. "At least we got to explore it."
Sans smiles softly and nods in agreement. "Yeah that's true. Thanks for doing this with me." He adds as Papyrus waves it off.
On their way home they are stopped as Greater dog approaches.
Sans tenses but tries to make himself relax which isn't working. His hands tremble almost loosing his grip on his device. He hardly notices that Papyrus, and Greater dog, have picked up on his strong fear and anxiety. He winces as Greater dog approaches a step with a whine. He curses his fear silently as Greater dog stares at him worried and apologetic.
It wasn't Greater dog that attacked him.
Sans wishes his feelings of fear would go away. He does feel some relief as Papyrus gently nudges Greater dog away.
"Its alright." Papyrus tells Greater dog. "He's just recovering still." He offers his own apologetic smile to the dog monster. "You'll just have to be patient and let him do things himself."
Greater dog does actually seem to take in that information as he nods. He turns to look to Sans and doesn't move closer. He waits to see if Sans will feel ready to approach yet or not.
Sans tries to calm himself down as Greater dog remains calm for him. He tries to push away the memory of the attack reminding himself that this is Greater Dog. He tries to look at the other finding himself shaking as he does so.
Greater dog looks very worried though doesn't approach Sans.
Sans glances to his brother which does help in calming him down. He feels like the strangle hold on his soul lightens seeing his brother. He closes his eye taking a breath before opening his eye to look to Greater dog.
Greater dog wags his tail opening his mouth to happily pant at Sans.
Sans barely manages to not look at the dogs teeth. He takes a moment then he tries to move closer. He swears that he feels like his feet are so much heavier suddenly. His foot drags in the snow as he takes a step forward.
Greater dogs tail wags increases and barely seems to be holding back from hurrying over.
Sans is very grateful for the other being so patient with him on this. He tries to reach over to pet Greater dog, thinking that maybe if he just goes for it he'll start to move on from this fear. His hand trembles as it's almost touching Greater dogs head.
Greater dog tilts his head up into Sanss hand surprising him.
Sans jolts back pulling his hand back. He teleports away home closing the door to his room.
Papyrus let's out a breath after seeing his brother teleport away. He already knows where he likely went. He had hoped Sans could do it. He guesses he'll have to just wait awhile longer. He'll wait for as long as it takes for his brother to heal.
Greater dog whines softly causing Papyrus to turn to him. He turns getting pet the skeleton who is still standing there with him.
"It'll be okay. He just needs a little more time." Papyrus assures the dog who nods in understanding. "Thank you for helping a little. I'm impressed with the progress he made there. I should go check on him though." He hears the other give a bark of goodbye then the two head off. He heads to the home he shares with his brother and glances around. He knows that Sans has to be somewhere around here. "Sans?" He slightly calls out then hears a slight call back, it is coming from the from the direction of Sanss room. He heads that way and opens the door relieved to find it unlocked. He lets it swing open and steps into the room. He is quick to spot his brother who is on his bed.
Sans is sitting with his back to the wall, his knees to his chest, his hands resting on his knees, and a sad yet scared look on his face.
Papyrus moves further inside and sits down upon his brothers bed. "Itll be okay Sans." He tries to assure the other as he moves closer. Wishing to hug the other. "You can take all the time you need to heal. No one is going to rush you on any of this." He brings an arm around his brother pulling him close. He feels Sans snuggle into his embrace.
"I want a normal life again." Sans explains to his brother who listens to what he has to say. "I wish I could go back to how things were before." He closes his only working eye as tears gather there ready to fall. "I don't want to be afraid."
Papyrus gazed at his brother sad with sympathy. He knows that as much Sans is going to wish for it he won't have the old normal. He is well aware that Sans will have to find a new 'normal' for his life.
Even if it's not really 'normal' to other monsters.
Sans will forever be changed by the event even as he improves and heals.
"We'll figure things out. Just give it time." Papyrus feels like that's the only comforting thing he can really say to what Sans said. He really does hope that his brother will soon be able to relax a bit more. He doesn't like seeing his brother upset or scared. He will do what he can to help his brother with those emotions.
...
I trip and I fall shutting my eyes expecting a painful impact. I land below and my body does ache a little, the wind knocked out of my body as soon as my body lands. I do end up blacking out from the fear of the drop mixed with the impact. When I open my eyes I find that I have landed in the most unusual spot.
