~Maybe There's Some Heaven in Hell Part 2~

[Noah's POV]

I shot awake in my bed, sweat dripping down my face and my breath coming out in heavy pants; this was the tenth time this month that I awoken from a nightmare.

Three years...I had participated in the Extermination for three whole years! Do you wanna know how many demons I killed in that time?

Sixty seven!

Sixty seven...that's how many demons I've killed by the night I started asking myself questions like: how long could I do this before my sanity is destroyed? How long do we have to this before Hell was completely devoid of souls? How long could I lie to my fellow angels before it caught up to me?

Yes, you heard me. After the first two years, I slowly started falling into a pit of sadness, guilt and self loathing; I began to hate myself for essentially becoming a murderer, slaughtering demons left and right. I had tried to make it better for myself by telling each demon I killed to close their eyes and turn their backs to me.

That way, I wouldn't be the last time they saw before dying and I wouldn't have to see their fear stricken faces. I also decided to kill them execution style by shooting them in the back of the head, just one shot to the brain and they're dead within seconds. I did that so they wouldn't have to suffer, but even so, it still didn't help.

No matter how many times I apologized to the demons before I killed them, it didn't ease the guilt within my heart. I felt nothing but hatred for myself because of all the lives I took, I could barely sleep and whenever I tried to eat, I ended up vomiting a few minutes later due to the images of all those dead demons flashing in my mind.

The effects became noticeable in the form of dark bags under my eyes and the way my wings drooped down in misery while I walked. My fellow angels would ask me if I'm alright and I'm ashamed to admit that I lied to them and said "I'm fine" or "Its nothing, don't worry about me".

They were none the wiser and I heard some of whispering about me, saying things like "Maybe he hasn't had enough sleep lately" or "The poor dear probably misses his parents, they are still alive after all". I could hear and feel their sympathy, they all cared about how I felt and, while that was most appreciated, it didn't help me gain enough confidence to say what was really wrong.

I also began wondering why God hadn't cracked down on me for telling lies, granted the lies weren't hurting anyone besides me, but I was still breaking one of the ten commandments. I can only assume he had done or said anything for three reasons:

1) He didn't know I was doing it.

2) He could see that the lies weren't that big of a deal since it didn't affect anyone but me

3) This was his way of punishing me for lying, by not intervening

That last one makes the most sense to me as it would explain why he hasn't done anything about my problem, it was a way to punish me for telling lies.

So, I fell into a methodic, melancholy daily routine: I'd wake up, force myself to have breakfast, go and do my job at the library and when I was done, I'd spend the rest of the day lying in bed, crying as I tried to get some sleep because I was so tired.

I was still too scared to talk to Gabriel about leaving the Holy Army, I was terrified that I would be cast out and thrown to Hell for going against my objective but I couldn't take it anymore! There were times when I felt like killing myself before I remembered that I was already dead...

Oh God, what would happen if I died again? Do I go to another plane of Heaven? Or do I just cease to exist? Holy crap, is that what happened to all the demons I killed? I mean, they were sinners who died and went to Hell, so if I killed them a second time, then I could've very well erased them from existence.

The night I came to that realization, I ran to my bathroom and vomited into my toilet again. I didn't have the strength to go back to my bed so I just slept in my bathtub.

I just wanted this to stop...when will it end?

[Time Skip]

It was December 31, 2020. Once again, it was time for the Extermination; I barely had the energy to even open my eyes that evening but I knew I had to get up, so I did. I brewed up a cup of coffee and drank it black without milk or sugar, I figure it was enough to give me the energy to get through the night.

Then I washed my face and combed my head fluff before leaving my house, when I made it to the meeting place, I could tell the others noticed there was something wrong with me but they said nothing, probably out of respect for my personal space.

Just like the last three years, I transformed into exterminator form and took my guns. The portal to Hell opened up and flew down with my fellow angels, once again when we landed in Hell, we started slaughtering demons. I closed my eye as I shot each demon I came across in the head.

With each bang of the gun, I flinched. I still wasn't used to hearing it and sometimes I had to force myself to pull the triggers because my fingers refused to move. I looked behind me at the clock tower, it was five minutes till midnight. Soon it'll be January and the Extermination Day will be over, and I'll have to go back home and sit in my house in misery again.

I wonder what kind of nightmares I'll have tonight, I thought sadly.

Just then, I felt a sharp pain radiating from my left wing and through my body. I looked to see a knife stabbed through my wing arm, behind me was a tall lizard demon that apparently felt brave enough to attack one of us. Terrified, I started running away as the demon chased me, pulling out a gun this time.

He started shooting at me, none of the bullets hit me, they just grazed my skin along my arms and legs. Then, a bullet went into my left wing arm just above my stab wound; I soon found myself backed into a dark alley, I turned to see the lizard demon creeping up to me.

I didn't have any other choice, I raised both my guns and practically emptied the clips out on him, not that that matters since my guns could perpetually reload over and over. When he finally dropped dead, I panted as I reached up to the knife in my wing. I braced myself, gritting my teeth as I yanked it out.

Blood started spurting out of my wound, I clasped my hand over it as I tried to slow down the bleeding. That's when I heard the clock tower strike midnight, I froze because that meant everyone was leaving and here I was: lost in Hell!

I didn't know what to do but I knew I needed to hide right away or else I was going to be attacked by any demon who came across me in such a vulnerable state. I got up and started running as fast as I could, holding my bleeding wing; as the seconds flew by, I could feel myself getting weaker from the blood loss.

I knew I wasn't going to die but I was going to pass out eventually and if I did, I would be done for!

Soon, I started limping as my vision blurred and I became dizzy. "Don't...stop...keep...going...", I gasped as I struggled to keep moving. Just then, I came upon a large building. There was a neon sign on the roof that read "Happy Hotel", weird name for a place in Hell but nonetheless, this seemed like the best place for me to hide for the time being.

"I'll hide out here for a while so my wounds can heal, then I'll need to find a way back home", I said to myself.

I limped towards the building and knocked on the door just as the exhaustion and blood loss finally caught up to me and I fainted, collapsing onto the floor.

[Time Skip: Third Person POV]

Charlie sighed sadly as she heard the clock tower chime midnight, another year had gone by and still there were no newcomers to the hotel. Not to mention it's current residents didn't do much to improve themselves but thankfully they were still alive since they were kept safe within the hotel.

"Let's hope that this year, a new change will come about. Maybe things will be different", she whispered to herself. Just as she was making her way back upstairs, she heard knocking on the front door. She perked up, "Can it be? Is someone new finally coming to check in to the hotel?", she said as she raced to the door.

Charlie opened it but instead of another demon standing outside the door, she gasped when she saw an unconscious Exterminator Angel lying on the ground. "Vaggie! Come here, I need your help!", she shouted as she tried to drag the angel into the hotel.

Vaggie came downstairs and saw what Charlie was doing, she didn't say anything at first though, she simply helped Charlie carry the angel into the hotel's lobby and placed them onto the couch. That was when the other residents of the hotel: Alastor, Niffty, Husk and Angel Dust came to see what was going on.

"Say what's with all the racket?! I've got a real bad hangover and I'm trying to sleep!", said Husk.

"That's what I wanna know too. Charlie, can you please explain to me and the others why there's an unconscious Exterminator Angel in the hotel?", said Vaggie. That was when the others saw the angel and gasped in shock, Charlie took a breath before speaking.

"I heard knocking on the door, I opened it and he was just lying there. The poor thing is hurt, Vaggie! We have to help him", she said. Niffty took a step forward and inspected the wounds on the angel's left wing, "Hmm...looks like somebody stabbed him and shot him. Good news is he won't have to lose his wing, I can patch this up no problem. Bad news, he'll have to stay here until he gets better", she said as she left to get a first aid kit.

"What?! No, we can't keep an Exterminator Angel here! What if he wakes up and decides to kill us all? He is armed, after all!", Vaggie shouted pointed at the pair of Holy Guns clapsed weakly in the angel's hands.

"Vaggie, Extermination Day is over. He won't be allowed to kill any of us because he has to abide by the rules in place. He's only allowed to kill demons one day and that day is over, so we're safe", Charlie argued.

"Well, we may be safe but he's not! Do you know how many demons would kill to get their grimy hands on an angel? In this vulnerable state, he's the perfect prey for any scumbags out there!", Vaggie rebutted.

Just then, the angel's body started glowing and it seemed to be shrinking a bit. They watched as his body changed and became what looked like an anthropomorphic sheep with light brown fur and thick dark brown fluff on his head, his chest, and his forearms and calves, and he was wearing a pair of white tunic shorts with two yellow crosses on each pant leg.

"Whoa, is this what he really looks like? Cause he is one fine looking bastard!", Angel Dust said.

Vaggie rolled her eyes at that just as Niffty came back with a first aid kit, she got to work stitching up the wounds in the angel's left wing, rubbing disinfectant on it before bandaging it up. "Okay, he's fine now. But he shouldn't try moving that wing too much and he'll need lots of rest if he's gonna get better", she said.

Charlie placed a hand on Vaggie's shoulder, "Come on, Vaggie. Let's talk to him first, who knows. He might be a nice angel and he's probably lost and confused, given that Extermination Day is over, he shouldn't even still be here. So something must've happened.

"We can keep him safe here until he gets better and finds a way back home. What do you say?", she said. Vaggie sighed, "Okay Charlie, I trust you. We'll talk to him when he wakes up so we can figure this all out", she said making Charlie smile.

Then, Vaggie walked over and took the angel's guns.

"Vaggie, what are you doing?", asked Charlie.

"Just cause we're gonna let him explain himself doesn't mean I trust him not to hurt any of us. I'm putting these away in the safe in our room, and I'm also getting some rope to tie him up with. I'll untie him when he's proven not to be a threat to us", she said before walking upstairs.

[Time Skip]

An hour later, the angel groaned as he finally regained consciousness; he slowly sat up and looked around to see he was in a hotel lobby, he tried moving his arms and legs but found that he couldn't. He looked down to see that his wrists and ankles were tied together with a thick rope.

He began to panic as he struggled to break free but couldn't.

"Oh, looks like he's awake".

The angel looked up to see he was surrounded by six demons, three male and three female. "Where am I? Who are you? Why am I tied up?", he asked in fearful panic. That was when Vaggie suddenly pulled out her spear and pointed it in the angel's face, "Listen up, pal! Charlie thinks you may be nice but I know you Exterminators love killing demons without remorse, so I'm warning you: if you try hurting anyone in here, I won't hesitate to ram this spear right through your f*cking heart!", she shouted.

Charlie was just about scold Vaggie for threatening the angel, but then she and the others were surprised by what happened next. The angel's eyes widened as they welled up with tears, his bottom lip quivered and his shoulders started shaking. Then without warning, he burst out crying, sobbing loudly as he covered his face with his tied up hands.

Charlie looked at Vaggie with an annoyed expression, "Vaggie, that was really uncalled for! The poor is more than likely confused and scared, not to mention he's injured, and you pull out your spear and threaten him? What kind of example is that setting?", she said. She then grabbed a box of tissues and a pair of scissors, she went to sit on the couch next to the angel.

"Hey, it's okay. Don't cry, no one is going to hurt you. Why don't you take a breath and calm down, then can you tell us your name?", Charlie said sweetly as she rubbed his back in a comforting manner. She picked up the scissors and cut the ropes off of his wrists and ankles, then she gave him the tissues.

He took some to wipe his face and blow his nose, "M-m-my name is Noah", he said. Charlie smiled, "Aww what a cute name. I'm Princess Charlotte but you can call me Charlie, welcome to the Happy Hotel! This is my girlfriend Vaggie and I'm sure she's sorry for scaring you. The others are Alastor, Angel Dust, Husk and Niffty. She's the one who patched up your wing", she said.

Noah looked at his left wing to see it was cleaned and bandaged, it was sore and hurt a lot when moved around but at least it was patched up.

"Thank you...", he said quietly.

That was when Angel Dust got uncomfortably close to him, "Hey there, cutie! If you're looking for a good time, my room is on the third floor so you know where to find me", he said seductively as he wiggled his eyebrows. This made Noah feel really awkward and uncomfortable as his cheeks blushed and his forehead began to sweat.

Vaggie then pushed him away, "Back off, Angel! He's not here to be your living sex toy, he's staying here to recover so he could eventually go home! I will beat your ass if I find out you shoved your dick up his!", she shouted which made Angel grumble in annoyance.

She then gently took Noah by the hand and helped him to his feet, "Come with me and Charlie, we'll show you to your room", she said. Noah followed the two girls up the stairs, he could feel the others staring at him; he wasn't to bothered by Niffty and Husk since the latter didn't seem to care much for him and the former was nice enough to treat his wounds.

It was Angel Dust and Alastor who freaked him out the most: Angel Dust acted like he wanted to have sex with him, which made Noah feel really uncomfortable, and Alastor just gave off this vibe like he wanted to murder him. It didn't help that he seemed to have a permanent wide smile on his face.

Noah tried not to think about it as he followed Charlie and Vaggie, trying to start a conversation to take his mind off things. "So...what's this hotel for anyway? Demons taking a vacation?", he asked. Charlie turned to him, "Oh no, actually I opened up this hotel as a way to rehabilitate sinners so they can get into Heaven. I'm tired of watching my people being slaughtered every year because of Hell's overpopulation, so I want to help them", she said.

"But so far...we haven't had any new tenants and our current ones haven't been making any progress", said Vaggie.

Noah was surprised, Charlie was the princess of Hell...literally the daughter of Satan himself, and yet she was so kindhearted and compassionate to not only comfort him but to also open a hotel as a way to help demons change so they could go to Heaven and not be killed.

"We have something in common, Princess", he whispered.

"What do you mean?", asked Charlie.

"I joined the Holy Army thinking it was some guardian angel program or something along those lines, I had no idea that I would be killing demons each and every year. One of the first demons I killed was actually pregnant, ever since them...I've been traumatized! I can't unsee the faces of all the demons I slaughtered, I can barely sleep and when I try to eat, I can hardly keep my food down.

"My neighbors ask me if I'm okay but I lie and say everything's fine because I'm scared that they'd judge me for being sympathetic to demons. And I'm terrified to tell God how I feel because he might cast me out of Heaven, I don't know what to do honestly...", Noah explained.

Charlie and Vaggie looked at him with sympathetic eyes, "Well we promise to keep you safe here while you get better and hopefully you'll be able to find the answers to your problem and get back home", said Charlie as she placed a hand on his shoulder.

"By the way, I'm sorry for scaring you. I was just worried for everyone's safety but it's clear to me that despite being an Exterminator, you seem to really hate your job. I put your guns away in a safe and when you go back home, I'll give them back. In the meantime, you just relax and get better", said Vaggie.

This made Noah smile, he wasn't expecting there to be any nice demons in Hell but it seemed there were exceptions. They lead him to a room on the third floor, Charlie opened the door to reveal a room with maroon wallpaper, white carpeting on the floor, and a four poster bed with red and white satin sheets.

There was a side table with a lamp, a door leading to a closet, another door leading to a bathroom, a large dresser with a tv over it, and finally, a window that opened up to a balcony; the window itself was blocked by a set of black curtains.

"This will be your room for the time being, let us know if you may need anything", said Charlie. Noah marveled at the room before turning to them, "Um...can I have a towel and a change of clothes? I'd like to take a shower", he said nervously. Charlie smiled at him, "No need to be nervous. I'll go get you a towel and some clothes, why don't you get a headstart and jump into the shower?", she said.

Noah smiled as he walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower, adjusting the temperature of the water. He then pulled down his shorts, tossing them into a nearby laundry basket before stepping into the shower. The warm water eased his aching muscles and made him feel much better than he was earlier.

He grabbed the nearby bottle of body wash and squirted some into his hands, scrubbing himself down to wash away all the sweat and grime from his body. Once he rinsed himself off, Noah stepped out of the shower and spotted a fluffy red towel sitting on the sink. He grabbed it and dried himself off, wrapping the towel around his waist.

He stepped into his room where he found something black and folded lying on the bed, there was a note from Charlie on it. It read:

"Sorry but all we could find for you to wear was a pair of baggy, black sweatpants.

I apologize if it's an inconvenience but you do seem like the type of guy who prefers to be shirtless anyway, so I hope they at least fit you.

Signed, Charlie"

Noah let out a soft chuckle, "Well she's not wrong. I've gone so long now without wearing a shirt so putting one on now would just feel out of place", he said to himself. He unwrapped the towel and slipped on the sweatpants, they were one size too big but he managed to keep it from falling by tying the strings together.

After that, Noah realized he was quite hungry as he only had a cup of coffee and a muffin for the entire day, he hadn't eaten anything in the last twelve hours. "Maybe this place has a kitchen where I can get something to eat", he wondered.

He opened the door and headed downstairs, sure enough there was a kitchen, so he walked in and looked around for something to eat. "I should eat something light, too. I haven't eaten in hours and I've been having trouble keeping my food down, so I shouldn't overwhelm my stomach", he said.

Eventually, Noah settled on a bowl of cereal, it would light enough so as not to upset his stomach and it would satisfy his hunger. He found a box of cereal in a cabinet called "Honey Wheat Grahams", sounded healthy which was probably why no one here had opened it.

Guess when you're in Hell you don't care much for staying healthy, he thought.

Noah washed out a bowl and poured some of the cereal in, then he grabbed the carton of milk from the fridge and poured some into the bowl; finally, he washed a spoon and sat down to eat the cereal, it was a little sweet but tasted good enough for him. Noah heard someone else enter the kitchen, he looked up to see Husk making himself some coffee.

"Ugh, you actually like that wheaty garbage?", he asked.

Noah swallowed his mouthful of cereal, "It was all I could find to eat that was light enough for my stomach. I haven't eaten in hours and lately I've had trouble keeping my food down so I didn't want to overwhelm my stomach and end up vomiting", he said.

Husk shrugged as he poured himself a cup of coffee, "You sound like me when I'm drunk", he muttered as he took his hot beverage and left the kitchen. Noah shrugged as he continued eating his cereal.

He seems like he doesn't care for my presence but at least he's nice enough to talk to, he though.

"Hello there, my good fellow. Enjoying your meal?"

Noah froze as he heard a loud voice that sounded like it was coming from a distorted radio, he slowly looked up and nearly choked on a mouthful of cereal when he saw Alastor looking down at him. "Hmph!", he said his voice muffled. "Oh come now, its rude to speak to someone with your mouth full", Alastor said.

Noah heavily swallowed his mouthful of cereal before looking back at Alastor, his eyes wide with fear. "Uh...hello, you're...Alastor, right? N-n-nice to meet you, I'm Noah", he said shakily. Alastor gave him wide grin, "Noah, eh? Interesting name, reminds me of Noah's Ark! Being from Heaven, I'm sure you're familiar with that biblical tale", he said.

Trying to keep his heart from beating out of his chest, Noah smiled nervously. "Y-y-yes, I have actually. Though, I've never met that Noah, but I'm sure he's a nice man. I...take it you like that story?", he said with a shiver in his voice. Noah couldn't explain why his body was so completely racked by fear, it was as if the second Alastor walked into a room, he gave off this aura of unremitting horror.

Alastor grinned, "Why yes, it's quite funny story if you ask me. Just thinking about all the sinners of the world drowning in a massive flood that consumed the Earth while Noah and his family, along with two of every animal, escaped on his ark brings me such joy and mirth", he laughed.

Noah's nervous smile began to falter, "Wow...um, the story sounds really morbid when you put it like that", he croaked. Alastor moved a bit closer to him, "Ah but that is the way God works, being an angel I'm sure you know all about that. I do wonder though, how will he end the world again? I doubt you can top a massive flood but the possibilities are endless. Well, I'd say I've bothered you long enough, I'll leave you to your meal. It was a pleasure talking to you, Noah", Alastor said before walking away.

At that moment, Noah realized he had lost his appetite so he threw the rest of the cereal away, washed the bowl and spoon, and headed back up to his room. "Okay, he didn't try to kill me! Thank you God!", he whispered to himself. Just as he stopped in the hallway of the third floor to catch his breath and calm his pounding heart, he jolted when he felt a pair of hands caress his chest fur.

Noah jumped back and turned around to see Angel Dust standing there with a seductive grin.

"Uh...hi, Angel Dust, right?", he said trying to act casual.

"That's right, and you're Noah. Gotta say, you are one delectable little lamb chop! I don't think I've ever seen a guy as cute as you", said Angel. He slowly moved closer to Noah, backing the frazzled angel up against the wall; Noah could feel his chest tightening as his cheeks turned red from embarrassment.

"Oh well...thank you, I'm flattered. It's not often that I hear someone compliment me on how I look, I'm glad you think I'm...cute", he said his voice coming out in an almost high pitched squeak. This made Angel Dust laugh, "Listen to your voice, you sound so flustered. God, that makes you even more adorable!", he said.

Then Angel lifted up one of Noah's lopped ears so he could whisper into it, "Well like I said before...if you're looking for a good time, you know where to find me. My room is just down the hall from yours, hit me up and I'll give the best night of your afterlife!", he whispered before giving Noah's ear a small kiss and walking off.

Noah quickly ran to his room and locked the door, letting out a breath that he didn't know he had been holding. He sighed as he shut off the light and crawled into bed, "Maybe things won't go so smoothly inside this hotel", he said as he slowly relaxed and fell asleep.
