Natsumi looked at the three-pronged kunai in her hand. Her vision became blurry, and darkness crept into her peripheral.
Hiruzen watched as Natsumi contemplated the kunai and saw as the girl started to slowly lean forward. He did not expect for her to fall flat on her face. In an instant the Hokage and two ANBU agents in hooded black robes where at the girl's side.
The ANBU with an owl mask carefully flipped the girl on her side and placed a glowing green hand on Natsumi's temple. The owl masked ANBU sighted in relief and her feminine voice said, "She is okay" and placed a second glowing green hand over the unconcious girl's stomach.
Meanwhile the lion masked ANBU removed the kunai from the girl's hand, placed it in the box where it came from and vanish from the room.
The Owl masked ANBU removed her hands from the girl and vanished as well. Natsumi begun to stir, and her eyelid flickered, she opened her eyes and sat up while rubbing her eyes. Her movements were sluggish, and her expression confused "Jiji?".
A few weeks later.
Naruto was in the middle of his usual training spot with his sensei. He could barely hold his excitement. Itachi had told him the previous day that in this day he would teach him a new jutsu.
Itachi sat crossed legged across from Naruto. The young Uchiha started to place cards with elemental symbols, starting from Naruto's left towards the right. The first was a water symbol, followed by air, earth, lighting and fire. After placing the last card, Itachi cleared his throat "This are used to check your elemental affinity, channel your chakra and if the card reacts, that means you have an affinity for that element."
Pulling out a card of his own with the fire symbol and holding it straight out in front of him. As he channeled chakra into the card the symbol in the middle ignited. He placed the card down and the card continued to burn.
Naruto stared in awe. Anticipation grew stronger in him. "I wonder what affinity I got?". He grabbed the first card to the left, with the water symbol and channel chakra into it. No reaction. He swapped it for the next, air. Nothing.
Itachi felt a tinge of sadness at the dejected look of his pupil. But he was not discouraged. Everyone had an affinity after all.
Naruto picked up the following card, earth, still no reaction. Lighting. No reaction.
Itachi lips curled into a faint smile, fire. He was quite happy with the result, after all fire jutsus were one of his specialties.
Naruto picked up the last card, fire. Nothing. Itachi was perplexed. "There is no way…"
Naruto looked shattered, having no affinity was not something he expected.
Itachi picked up all the cards in one swoop and placed a new set of cards. "Do it again" he commanded, his heart thumping violently against his chest.
Naruto picked the first card up and once again there was no reaction. He picked the second one in the new set, air. He channeled chakra into it. The card shredded itself into hundreds of small pieces.
Itachi watched in disbelief as the small pieces of paper fluttered to the ground.
Naruto smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of his head "It just my luck, I got the bad set in my first attempt. I was really scared for a second"
Itachi still baffled by the result "the first set was not defective". He shook his head approvingly. "You have to be the most surprising person in the whole village" he thought to himself.
Naruto excitedly picked up the next card, earth. No reaction. Naruto pouted and picked up the lighting card. Itachi watched bemused and chuckled when the blonde frowned from not getting any reaction from the lighting card.
The Uchiha stood up "Congra- ". The card in Naruto's hand burst into flames. Itachi reflexively activated his clan's famous eye. He spun around quickly, scanning the area around them. Naruto stared at the burning paper. Itachi bended down close to Naruto and shook him to get his attention and looked him in the eyes.
Naruto stared right back at him, surprised by his sensei eyes. Red irises and three connected black spiraling curves around the pupil. He had heard others talking about the Uchihas having some sort of special red eyes, but he had never seen them before.
"Please listen to me carefully Naruto. No one can know about this. This test. Please don't tell anybody about this, tell me you understand!" begged the Uchiha in a worried and hushed tone.
Naruto was confused, by his sensei's words, strange eyes, and panicked expression.
Itachi shook the boy hard by the shoulder "Naruto?!"
A few days later.
The sun was setting as Itachi walked slowly in an alley of the Uchiha sector, his attire consisted of casual Uchiha clothing. He was lost in thought, ruminating about the events of the last couple of days. The deadline was growing closer, and he was out of options. As he turned the corner, he was met by three pairs of sharingans looking directly at him.
Three Uchiha men wearing Military Police Force uniforms. To the left was the tallest of the group, with hair slightly past his shoulders. On the right with much more muscular build and spiked black hair was the oldest of the group. And finally in the middle with brown hair, standing straight and confident, an elite of the Police Force, Shujin Uchiha.
"Itachi" said Shujin in a friendly tone. "Where were you the night that Shisui died?"
Itachi was unfazed by the question "I don't have to answer any of your questions" he stated in a monotone voice.
Shujin walked towards Itachi and started to circle him, once he was behind Itachi the other two closed in, sorrounding him completely.
Itachi could feel Shinju's breath behind his neck and the other two looked tense, with their hands hovering over their Kunai pouch.
"I'm going to ask you one more time and I will do it nicely this time. Okay?" Shujin softly whispered into Itachi's ear. "Could you please tell me your where abouts the night that Shisui unfortunately passed away?"
"As an ANBU I only answer to the Commander and the Hokage" declared Itachi.
The Uchiha on Itachi's left with long hair huffed indignantly "a couple of years in ANBU and you think of your self as above us" he hissed trough his teeth pulling out his kunai.
"Just show us your sharingan and we will be on our way" purred Shujin into Itachi's another ear. "Unless…"
"Why don't you just come out and say it?" suggested Itachi.
The muscular Uchiha on Itachi's right pulled out his kunai as well "Against three Uchihas he would have no choice but to use his sharingan" he suggested indirectly.
Itachi smirked and lifted his chin slightly "Against incompetents like yourself, I don't"
Enraged, the older Uchiha sucker punched Itachi.
but Itachi was expecting it. Slightly tilting his head to the side following up with a powerful left hook to the large Uchiha's jaw and in a flash following the momentum of his punch he spun elbowing the other Uchiha on the nose.
Itachi snatched the kunai from the long-haired men just in the nick of time to block Shujin's kunai. Shujin followed swiftly with raising his knee and powerfully kicking Itachi on the stomach sending him rolling on the ground.
As Itachi's body came to stop, it started breaking down into black feathers. Shujin clenched his jaw hard, and his face twisted with rage. His sharingan glowing hot red under the sunset's light.
