: Chapter 18 - New friends :

2 weeks after the storm

Her steps were swift along the concrete path. She dared not keep her current employer waiting for she knew exactly what would happen to her if she angered him. The soft click of her heels along the path were the only sound to be heard for quite a distance as all the houses around her were shrouded in darkness, considering the time of night.

She envied the simple lives of the people surrounding her in the cosy looking homes. Simple families, working simple jobs with simple lives. She couldn't help but sneer. I am so passed simple here. She thought as she stared down the house at the end of the road. It was no different from those it sat beside. It had the same patch of lawn, same paint job... and yet, it housed a terribly dark secret.

It housed one diabolical bastard, capable of such horrible things.

Softly she knocked on the familiar door, her anxiousness rising as she heard him moving around in the house. Taking a deep breath, she unfolded her arms and adopted a lazy, almost disinterested stance in preparation for his highness's appearance. Fake it until you make it, right?

The door opened with small squeak, and there he stood, in all his glory.

"Miss Wong, so glad you could make it." he smirked.

"So what can I do for you? Don't tell me I came all this way because you missed me." Ada purred as she stirred her tea.

"Hardly." Albert scoffed, pushing off from the counter as he fetched a package from under the kitchen counter. "I have.. a favor to ask of you."

"How can I be of service?" Ada tilted her head and flirtatiously looked the man in front of her up and down. He may be an asshole but damn did he sure know what he was doing when it came to the bedroom.

"Now now Miss Wong, I'm afraid your visit is strictly business."

Ada's eyes turned into slits. "And what business would that be?"

Albert sighed, and handed her the package. He nodded when she went to open it. As she emptied it, two vials of blood fell into her palm. 'Miss Redfield' was on one of the labels, and 'James Marcus' was on the other.

"Was this supposed to clear up my confusion?" Ada asked as she held up the vials to him.

"James Marcus has.. passed away." Ada's face fell for a moment, but nodded to him to continue. "I needed his blood for William, hes working on something.. a virus for me. Something that could possibly change everything."

"Sooo.. you need more of this 'Miss Redfield' blood for the virus?" she took a stab at guessing what he was trying to get across to her.

"Not exactly." Albert mumbled as he took the vile's back and stared at them thoughtfully. "I gave James a dose of a virus William was working on for me. He wasn't so sure if it was ready for me yet, so I put it to the test with our good friend James, sadly he mutated due to the part of the virus we harvested from a Tyrant being too volatile, just as I had predicted." Albert claimed smugly. "Though, judging from the results of the blood in this vile" he motioned to Claire's blood. "The virus in Miss Redfields system should meld nicely with William's virus, creating quite the viral cocktail for yours truly."

"We have an infected in Raccoon?" Ada asked, alarmed at the thought of another Lisa situation.

"We do, but Claire's.. different. Shes retained her virus. Its melded with her DNA with not a sign of mutation and all the benefits. Shes truly a marvel." he praised, his mind flickering back to that night he had finally taken her. He couldn't control himself that night. Something about her changed that night.. something he couldn't put his finger on. One minute she was shy, and the next, it was as if she had flicked a switch, making him obey. He had felt in control at the time, felt he could overcome anything she tried, but it was hopeless. I need this virus perfected, and soon.

"And as such, Miss Wong, you've just uncovered why you've been summoned to Raccoon City."

"Have I now?"

Albert smirked as he handed her a folder. The front was stamped 'R.C.P.D', and upon opening, she discovered the photo and resumé of one Claire Redfield.

"I need her watched, Ada. The time to leave Umbrella is drawing near for both me and William, and this virus we're working on is all we need to move forward. Claire's blood and possibly her loyalty are key to staying in the game right now."

The cogs in Ada's mind turned as she realized what Albert wanted. Looking up from the photo of this perky looking, twenty-something redhead, she frowned.

with the flourish of his hand, Wesker took a sip of his coffee and announced, "Ada, meet your new co-worker."

"A little to the left.." Chris grumbled as he waved his hand in said direction.

"Here?" I asked as I dangled the oversized medal above the fireplace.

"Yup! Right there!" Chris bellowed as he marked the spot for the nail with a marker. "Great! Now it'll be the first thing you see when you walk in here."

I started to giggle and rolled my eyes as I held it steady as he began to hammer in the nail. "Pretty cool huh? your pretty lucky to have such a cool big brother."

"Sure, sure" I was now full on laughing as I fixed the medal's ribbon onto the nail. Sighing, we both stepped back to admire our handy work. "Straight and dead center, perfect!"

I couldn't stop giggling at him, he was beaming, but I really couldn't blame him. He deserved it. The oversized, golden Medal above our fireplace read "For outstanding leadership. Chris Redfield" In raised, golden letters.

In the midst of the great Raccoon City storm that struck us two weeks ago, Chris had found himself in a rather stressful spot as a member of Alpha team. The phone was ringing off the hook, sis, someone had to step up to the plate! Chris had excitedly told me the next day when we made it home. Because Wesker and you were stuck at his house, which, FYI, I am so sorry for, the team was just scattered. I knew I needed to act, so that's exactly what I did.

And Act he did. Efficiently and effectively, Chris had split the team up according to their strengths and weaknesses, and was able to really help out the fire department and the people of Raccoon pull through the storm. Thankfully, nobody died during the storm, and much to the surprise of both Wesker and Chris, Chief Irons was absolutely so overjoyed with Chris' initiative in Wesker's absence, that he insisted on awarding him with the medal that now hangs proudly above our fireplace.

Chris decided to hold a little party at the house for his achievement for all of S.T.A.R.S to attend, but Wesker was the only one not to show. In fact, he had looked fiercely annoyed with Chris at the ceremony when Wesker presented him with the medal. I truly couldn't decide if Wesker not showing was down to Chris' showing him up or for the fact that Chief Irons gave him a grilling over being trapped in his home due to the powerlines for the duration of the storm right in front of her two days later. That had been a horrible day at work. I shuddered at the thought.

"You know Claire, this could be really good." Chris sighed in contentment. "Chief Irons said I was a born leader the other day, said I would make a great captain if the need should ever arise." Chris smiled proudly as he stared at his medal. Quickly he glanced at me with slight alarm on his face. "Not that I'd ever take Wesker's place in the force behind his back or anything! He's what the team needs right now, but you know.. I thought it was a cool thought you know? Captain Redfield.. Imagine that!" Chris laughed at the idea.

He was so cute when he was trying to be modest. "Chris, you're great at your job, nobody knows that better than your team, and who knows? Al- Wesker won't want to be captain forever, maybe someday he'll pass the mantel, you know?" I laughed as his little smile blew up into a wide grin.

"Come on shithead, time for work" he dismissed as he punched me in the arm. "Ow?!" I yelled as he made a break for the door as I stood holding my arm. "Asshole! I need this arm to doodle on forms!"

I blew out a pensive breath as the clock struck Eleven am at the RCPD. Still no sign of Wesker.

In the past two weeks, Wesker had been acting especially strange around me. He'd called me to his house four times since the storm, but was a rare sight at the RCPD since then. Every time he'd call me, It'd be to 'collect forms' but to never actually collect any forms. The first time, it had been strange to go back to Wesker's place after we'd slept together. He could sense my unease about the situation over dinner.

In the benefit of my brother not hating me, can we keep us secret? I had asked as he pulled up in front of my house after a lovely dinner at the Black Bull, a favourite place of theirs it seemed.

We're an us? Wesker smugly asked, smirking at me.

I immediately started blushing furiously. Well I mean.. I thought.. aren't we.. ?

I suppose we are an us, aren't we? He whispered as he held my chin and swept his thumb over my lip. Dearheart, we are.. dating, I suppose, if you had to put a word on it.

Oh.. I mumbled as he continued to lightly stroke my lip with the pad of his thumb.

Yes, we will keep us a secret, dearheart. I don't need my team thinking I'm involved with the receptionist, its far too cliché. He smirked at his own joke.

Well, I wouldn't want you to turn into a cliché.. I whispered back just as his lips captures mine.

The house calls after that had consisted of frenzied make out sessions and activities of a.. sexual nature. He had said we were dating, but I still feel strange about our set up. Considering I couldn't tell anyone about him, and I really do mean anyone, it almost felt like a booty call. Almost. I cringed at the thought. No, I'm more than that to him at this point, surely. I trust him..

I rolled my pen up and down on my clipboard as I waited for Wesker as when he did grace the department with his presence, it was usually around now. My eyes darted to the movement of a car pulling into the front parking spot reserved for Wesker, and readied all his messages from the past two days. Frankly I'm relieved he's here so I can hand off this pile of notes and get started on the forms for chief-

At that moment, the most stunning woman breezed through the doors of the RCPD. Her pencil skirt and killer black heels only accentuated her long legs and the white button down with the top button undone just screamed sex. Her black bob was neat, not a hair out of place, and the sweep of gloss across her bottom lip was both simple and just plain hot.

Man, if I was a guy or a lesbian.. I absentmindedly thought as I made a mental note to ask her where she got that shirt. Just then, the woman turned to me, and offered me a little smirk. With purpose, the woman strode over to my desk and laid one perfectly manicured hand on its surface.

"You must be Claire." She greeted. Holding out her other hand for me, the woman smiled. "Ada Wong."

"C-Claire Redfield." She answered. Why is she introducing herself? "Wait, how do you know me?"

Just then, Wesker walked up behind Ada and placed his hand on her back. A move that both internally angered Claire and shocked Ada, not that either woman's reaction showed on either's face.

"Dearheart, I must apologize for keeping you waiting so long. This is Ada Wong, she is here for the position of the secondary RCPD receptionist."

"What?" I asked lamely as my glance flits from Albert's face to Ada's face to Albert's hand on her back. Who is she? He knows her, but how?

Wesker cleared his throat and removed his hand from Ada's back and placed both behind his back. Good.

"Claire, the department needs another receptionist as per Irons' request. Ada is here to assist you with anything you deem important. Show her the ropes, as it were." Wesker adjusted his glasses and turned to go to his office. "I need to show Ada where she'll be working mainly before you inform her of her duties, we'll be back momentarily. In the mean time, could you get me a coffee?"

"Make it two." Ada cooly asked as Wesker placed his hand on her back once again to steer her upstairs.

Dumbly I nodded at the retreating pair. "Sure."

"Thank you dearheart." Wesker answered before they both disappeared upstairs.

Plonking down in my chair, I sighed as I stared at the stairs. What. The. Fuck?

"Receptionist, Al?" Ada gritted out as she sat on his desk as he typed away.

"What did you expect, Second in command on Alpha?" Wesker answered monotonously as he stared at the computer screen

"I expected something a little closer to you." She angrily snapped. "I've been trained in Krav maga, Ju Jitsu, taekwondo, know how to dismantle, reassemble and effectively use near all guns, have trained with some of the greatest assassins in the world and have such taken down some powerful figures in the world using these skills, and you hand me a clipboard and a coffee jug."

"You've also been trained in the art of disguise in plain site my dear, so you will play your part as the receptionist, and in turn, earn Claire's trust and friendship. You will be tailing her for as long as I say, so you can either form a relationship with her through this job, or you can utilize all that training and do it behind her back.

Ada sighed and hopped off the desk. "Whatever you say, Captain."

Wesker flicked his eyes from the screen to her back. "And you will not insinuate we have any sort of relationship beyond that of acquaintances. You are a friend of mine from out of town that will be staying with me for an extended period."

Now that caught her attention. "You're fucking her, aren't you?"

At that Wesker bristled. "Don't you ever talk to me like that again. We may have a romantic relationship as of right now, but it is necessary for my end goal, and you will not mess that up by being.. you."

"Sure boss, I won't insinuate a thing to your girlfriend." Ada rolled her eyes with her back facing Wesker. I wonder just how disposable he thinks that girl is to him, I'd love to at least have that little bit of information going for me should things go south between us.

"She's not.. you have your job, do it well Miss Wong. Wouldn't want John to get another visit from me, would you?"

Ada froze. "I'd rather you didn't"

At that, Wesker chuckled and went back to typing.

The office door swung open as I walked in with two steaming mugs of coffee.

"Ah, thank you dearheart." Wesker took the coffee and smiled up at her, making me both swoon and razor sharp to any reaction Ada had, but all she did was take the coffee and finish it in a series of long gulps, much to the alarm of both Claire and Wesker.

She shrugged, annoyed with Wesker and this whole god damn situation. "I hate Mondays." she offered.
