Oh Jesus. Its been a while. Anybody home? ;;

: Chapter 19 - No Surprise :

"Honestly, it's all pretty simple." I finished awkwardly with the flick of my wrist. "I'm not sure if A- Captain Wesker mentioned it to you, but a lot of the time its just coffee orders and watching the phone really.."

a quick nod was my response, as Ada did her best to look everywhere but at me. It took all of the energy in my body not to walk over and interrogate her. How do you and Al know each other? Are you an ex? a mistress? Do you actually know how to send a fax or did you just not want to listen to me anymore?

"Got it. Not exactly rocket science, is it?" she mumbled as she began twirling the phone cord between her fingers. "God, its only been an hour and it feels like its been 5 years."

Tell me about it. "I'm going to run up and get beta and Alpha's paper work from last night, then I can show you how to file it away properly."

"Can't wait." Ada groaned, leaning back in her chair as her hands grew even more entangled with the cord.

"I heard shes a spy, sent by Irons." quipped Brad as he tossed a small football in the air.

"I heard shes the captains ex wife." countered Barry, snatching the ball out of thin air. "She's got an air about it that screams 'you've wasted my life!'" Brad snickered as he snatched it back and tossed it to Chris. "You've got that right. You see her face when she walked out of the captains office? yeow."

Chris leaned back in his chair in contemplation for a moment. "Ex wife? nah." he tossed it over to Brad.

"Spy is the most credible theory then!" He concurred, smiling smugly over at Jill who was trying - and failing - to ignore them.

"What's she going to learn from spying in the S.T.A.R.S offices? that Chris has the hand writing of a child and Brad can run about as fast as my dead grandma?" that earned a hearty laugh from Barry, who then slaps Brad on the shoulder. "Shes got you there, Vickers." Satisfied with his daily catch up, Barry heads back to his desk.

"Man I'm telling you! She's way too suspicious to be just a receptionist.." Brad mumbled as he rolled his chair back to his own desk, leaving Chris to laugh at all the conspiracy theories for the morning.

After a few minutes of monotonous typing, Jill peaked over her monitor and gave a slight wave to Chris, gaining his attention immediately. "Psst! Forgot to ask... everything okay for tonight?"

Chris flashed a quick look around the office, and upon seeing no Claire, mouthed "yup" with a slight smile.

Brad leaned back without looking away from his computer. "6 O'Clock at your place, right?"

Rolling his eyes, Chris leaned forward and whispered, "Yeah dude, but keep it down! I don't want it getting back to Claire somehow that I'm throwing her a party."

"Relax! shes downstairs, just wanted to confirm is all." he finished with a quick shrug. "Just want to make sure I bring my A game to kick her ass at pool."

"Pfft, yeah. You wish." Chris chuckled as they both went back to typing, both convinced their little secret was safe with Alpha and Bravo alone.

However, thanks to some opportune eavesdropping, their Captain now knew too. Quickly scribbling the time in the corner of his ledger, he smirked at the opportunity this afforded him. Ahh, I do love when a plan comes together. he thought smugly.

"Good morning Captain, your coffee." Claire stated professionally as she set Wesker's coffee down, handle facing left as per usual. "Do you have all of the booking forms from last night?"

Wesker smiled to himself at Claire's performance, truly Oscar worthy. "I do indeed, Miss Redfield. I have some numbers I need to go over with you, could you get the door?" he asked without even looking up. Claire internally groaned and turned to close the door. I hope its not always like this. I want us to be less complicated. The door clicked shut. I want us to be-

Suddenly, Wesker had her against the wall, his hand on her wrist, and the other on her waist. "He-" I couldn't even finish my thought as Weskers mouth covered my own. I was too shocked to react in time to kiss him back, and when he pulled away I felt the loss with a quiet moan. Wesker smiled triumphantly at my barely concealed neediness. I'm so pathetic, and whats worse is I couldn't care less.. I internally confessed. I couldn't help how stupid he made me. We were like magnets. I turn into an even bigger idiot when he holds me like this..

"Claire.. " he whispered as he gently kissed my neck.

"W-we need to be careful." I bit my lip, trying to keep my volume down as he made me blush scarlet.

Growling from being told what to do, he pulled back and stared into my eyes for a minute, before laying a gentle kiss upon my forehead and returning to his side of the desk, leaving me to stand there. Completely hot and bothered.

"I-I'm not doing anything later.." I spoke as I shakily returned to sitting at the opposite site. I sound like such a slut.. and I don't even care.

Wesker chuckled slightly, knowing well what she was asking for. "Unfortunately, dear heart, I have a prior engagement tonight." Don't want to keep Claire from her surprise party now, do I?

Instantly, those small doubts came back. Who is Ada? are you going out with her? Am I just a side piece? "Oh." was all I managed through my internal monologue.

Wesker cocked his head slightly at her clear as day disappointment. Sure, he would of liked to ruin her dear brothers surprise and let her know all about her party, but what fun would that be? no no.. he had a plan, and that meant, as per usual, keeping Claire in the dark. After all, it was all meant to be a surprise.

"Dear heart, come here?" Wesker beckoned to the fidgeting Redfield across the desk. Suddenly looking up, she stood without question and came right around the desk. Before she could ask what he wanted, he gently tugged on her arm and she fell into his lap, making her immediately melt like butter. Just like she always did. "Their will be other nights." he pacified, leaning back in his chair while she did the same.

"I know, that's not whats got me like this." Claire quickly corrected. Geez, how clingy does he think I am?

"Go on." Wesker urged as he ran his fingers up and down her arm.

Who's Ada? "Just not feeling the best lately." I mumbled. "Feeling kinda run down, you could say." wasn't a complete lie, being honest. The past few weeks had been tough on her.. Her new relationship, keeping that a secret from everyone, the storm, that man.. it was all beginning to get to be a bit much.

"Ah, I understand." Wesker murmured as he kissed the back of her head, bringing her back to reality. "This stress will end soon Claire," Wesker promised. "w'ere coming towards the end of summer and into the winter months. We usually see a slow down in activity until November."

The end of the summer huh..

Sighing, I tried my best not to think about her job coming to an end. Hopefully that would be the only thing ending for her. Unless I really was a side piece, and Ada's the main course.. ?

"Are you around to talk later?" I pressed, feeling the uncertainty only build as I tried not to beg.

Wesker signed and chuckled softly. "You're as stubborn as your brother, you know that? I still have those plans my dear." I felt that sting of rejection and made to stand up, but Wesker was quicker and pulled me back down. "Yes, I will call you later."

I turned then, and offered a small smile. "Thank you. It's not important, really.. "

He gently brushed the hair out of my face and held the back of my head as he leaned in for a passionate kiss. I couldn't help it, I completely melted into him. This man will be my downfall. I've completely fallen down the rabbit hole.

"It is important if you need to discuss it, dear heart. I'll call you around 9pm."

Satisfied, I stood and fixed my hair as I walked around the desk to grab the files Wesker had left out for me. "I think I can pencil you in." I answered playfully, earning me a small smirk.

"Till then, Miss Redfield."

Opening the door, I answered. "That will be all, Captain."

When 5 O'clock came around I packed my bag with such speed I was probably clocked out and out the door before the clock could even strike 6:01. Chris was out on patrol tonight and Wesker had some previous engagement so It gave me time to walk home and think.

I really hadn't been lying to Wesker when I said I hadn't been feeling good lately, I just meant it more in the emotional sense than physical. I loved my brother more than anything in the world, so It just didn't feel good to keep my relationship with Wesker hidden. But on the other hand, I didn't feel I could entirely trust Wesker.

I could say with 100% certainty that I loved Wesker, but I couldn't say for sure if he felt the same. Liked me? sure. Found me sexually appealing? Of course.. but Wesker was a sweet talker. A ladies man. I knew it the minute we had that first dinner date that he was as smooth as they came, and damn if it didn't work on me like a charm.

I wanted so desperately to believe that I was different. That I was special. That he saw something in me he saw in nobody else. Was it naive of me to think that a girl my age would be able to impressive a man his age? of his experience? looking like a Greek god? and me, looking like a hot mess..

I groaned as I kicked a pebble into the bushes, nearing my house. Loves hard. At least I hope its love. God. Albert, don't crush me.

I was quickly knocked out of my melancholic thinking as I came up to the front door, keys in hand.

Just as I did every other door, I awkwardly unlocked the door and walked in, not at all prepared for what was about to happen.

"SURPRISE!"

"Oh my god!" I shouted in surprise. Snapping out of my daze, I look into the sitting room to see about 30 people in party hats, smiling and laughing at my reaction. "I-Is this for me?" I asked awkwardly.

"Of course you idiot! Happy birthday!" Chris shouted, running over to hug me. Oh wow, through everything, I completely forgot its my birthday tomorrow.. "We got her guys!" Chris beemed as I stood, absolutely dumbfounded.

Everyone erupted in thunderous applause, and somewhere I heard a speaker static for a minute, and then immediately play a beat. Instantly everyone scattered, some coming up to me to offer me gifts, and others giving me drinks. I loved the latter.

"Chris.. thank you! seriously!" I laughed as I gestured to everything. "How did you not blow the surprise?!"

"You're welcome!" Jill chimed in, handing me a party hat. "Practically had to duct tape his mouth shut!" she joked, pulling Chris away to mingle as some of my college friends approached. My college friends!

"Oh my god! Lisa!" I practically screamed as I went in for a hug. Lisa gave me a quick side hug so as not to spill her drink, and I couldn't help but laugh out loud at her. "It's been way too long!"

"Girl I know! and.. oh! before we go on.. who is that tall drink over there in the blue? I want to talk to him before he refills his drink." Same old Lisa. Hasn't seen me in months, and boys before anything else! "That dude!" she pointed as she sipped her cocktail.

I surveyed the crowd for the man in question, and had to do a double take as I realized who she was talking about.

"L.. Leon?"
