Surely, with This Hand

Summary:

Math plus physical closeness equals yay or nay?

"Keep it up."

"Even though you say that, it's not any easier!"

Subaru finished up the last calculation. The math problems themselves weren't the problem. He handled homework better than most because he had experience doing a decent amount of it all at once to make up for classes he missed after his dad went missing, and also because he knew mastering math was essential to breaking into his field of interest one day.

It was the fact that these equations were cutting into his other area of focus – the interpersonal one – that irked him this specific moment.

Conveniently, the classmate he was focused on and the classmate who was helping him focus on his homework were the same person.

Inconveniently, Kizamaro was still iffy about how far was too far with Subaru at this stage in their relationship.

They'd verbally acknowledged there was an energy between them worth further study, and they'd explored it at a cautious pace thus far.

Subaru didn't mind the slow burn (normally). But the tedium of school was throwing fuel on the fire.

Surely, his hand would touch Kizamaro's eventually. The question was when?

The problem with questions is not every question has a set answer.

The uncertainty of when both scared Subaru and gave him something to build towards. At a given moment, he could be flying light as air up into space, or be too slouched to take his eyes off the ground.

Subaru touched Kizamaro's face, startling Kizamaro and himself.

Oh no. He skipped a step. That wouldn't look good.

"Subaru…kun?"

He quickly transferred his hand to Kizamaro's hand.

Safe.

Too safe.

Surely he would one day, with this hand, touch Kizamaro's face once more.
