My Little Arrival

Ch.4: Ride

From the beginning, Kayla Sanders had been my friend. A short yet curvy girl of German descent, she was new to the Cheboygan area as we had our first encounter the last day of seventh grade. She thought of how sudden fate had changed for her. Her Mom was a widow, her Dad having been stricken with the six letter C-word. Her Mom had found solace in Cheboygan, comparatively smaller than her hometown. Indeed, Kayla had been a Seattle child. Good coffee, unions...she loved it. Her mind turned then, hearing the shouts.

What she saw was not an uncommon fate for me. A girl named Marie enjoyed accosting me at my locker. It was different things every time, but one thing always occurred- her dominance. Bad time for me to be a pacifist, huh?

Kayla growled, shutting her locker. She could get her stuff later. Storming over, she poked the right shoulder of Marie, who was far taller- about five inches. Marie turned, only to be met by a right cross from Kayla.

"And stay away, bitch!" Kayla shouted as Marie scurried away, swearing revenge. Kayla looked up at my annoyed face and smiled.

"Don't worry David, you got a friend to watch your back now."

As the years went by, it is fair if a bystander called me and Kayla best friends. Heck, we mostly shared every class. There were even teases that we should be a couple from the other students, usually met with a single finger salute from Kayla, and a roll of my eyes.

Kayla smiled at Fluttershy. "My my, you're adorable" she smiled. Fluttershy blushed, looking away, muttering a thank you.

Kayla turned to me, her trademark smile on point.

"Say David?" she said suddenly, stepping closer to me, almost with our chest connecting. "Look in my eyes."

I was confused, but obliged. Then the voice changed.

Within seconds, the Queen, Chrysless, had appeared. Her green eyes snickered at Fluttershy. "Funny of you to show your face now, Fluttershy. Then again, you had something to fight for in Equestria. What is the matter? Are you going to cry?"

Fluttershy said nothing, turning around as Chrysless went over to Fluttershy, presumably to mock her more. She was not prepared for what came next.

Taking a deep breath, Fluttershy connected her back hooves into Chrysless' head. The force of the impact sent Chrysless flying away, soon a blur in the warm sky.

Taking a few breaths to recover, Fluttershy turned to me staring in shock. I had many questions. But where could I start? How had that thing been able to impersonate Kayla? Was Kayla safe? But most importantly, what was Fluttershy hiding?

Her focus back, Fluttershy surprised me then, lifting me onto her back and began to take off. I was quickly able to shout goodbye to Mom, who could only chuckle as she watched through the Living Room Window.

For me, Gordan Turner Park, which has a fantastic view of the Straight of Mackinaw, was not a land of confusion. I can recall with cheerful memories the times I went to play there. Or even as I got older, walking there, enjoying the ladies play soccer at the fields. This place holds a different meaning now.

Fluttershy smiled, looking in my eyes as I got off her.

"Give me a few minutes, okay?" she asked in her soft voice. "All you want to know will get answered."

With that, she closed her eyes, almost silently communicating with something. It turned out to be seven somethings.

Hiding on the Moon, they took off now.

It was time for an arrival to Earth.
