My Little Arrival
Ch.16: Requiem for Life
I swallowed, seeing a thousand swords around me. Of course, there were no swords, but it felt that way. Sombra smiled softly. I could tell that he itched to speak with Kayla and I, but he was not first in line. Similarly, I saw that with Cozy. Immediately, I felt pity for her. What was a young one doing with such evil creatures?
The front door opened then, Amanda leading us up the steps, her eyes like that of a brainwashed follower of a despot. Kayla would see Chrysless first, the Changeling unsmiling, glowering at her. After her came Tirek. Tirek was huge, being around 10 feet tall, and had to lower his head. He grinned evilly at us.
"Nice to meet you" he said. "I have to admit, your maiden here seems like a fighter." Indeed, Kayla had her fists clinched, her eyes like molten iron. Tirek grinned; his power radiant. He nodded to Amanda. "Ah, yes. Chrysless and I need to speak with you and the others." Amanda nodded, mindlessly walking down the steps, almost walking down the Green Mile itself. I could only shake my head in sadness.
"There we go. They are disposed of."
Tirek watched from the bench. Chrysless had put a mind spell on the people in the park to leave. They would be free to enjoy its contents later. Well, what time they had left. For some, there was no time at all.
Chrysless grinned, watching the dead faces of John, Parker, Melissa, and Amanda fade away into the Straights of Mackinac, and turned back. "They served a good purpose. What's next?" she asked.
Tirek rose, a King ready to make a grand declaration. For anyone around, his words would be confessed as mysterious. Chrysless knew better, however. An eerie feeling had surrounded the Queen since that morning, seeing the victorious grin Tirek had shared at breakfast with the others.
"It is simple, Chrysless. That human's parents are ours to enjoy."
Mom and Dad still sat outside, calm. Dad gazed around; his eyes focused on the property. When I was three, it had been bought. He and Mom considered it a nice and cozy place to raise their child. His thoughts turned to me, as did Mom's. Proud was such an understatement that they refused to say. They could only be amazed at their son.
Growing up with Autism is a challenge to say the least. From time to time, it gave my parents frustrations, but never once had I been demeaned or abused by them. They knew one simple truth- the challenges I had conquered- whether it be Math, how to have a proper conversation, or even putting my shoes on correctly- brought tears to their eyes. Even the last day's events made them smile. For my dad, he saw his father in that moment. My Grandfather had done wrong. My Dad had always been fast to speak ill of his deceased father. In those moments, it mattered not. For my mom, she reflected on her life. Was it all worth the inevitable? Yes, it was. My parents knew Tirek would not just want those glasses; he would want to send a message, a brutalizing defeat.
So, at 11:15 AM, when Tirek and Chrysless walked up their driveway, they walked down to meet them. They held hands. Their lives flashed before them. One thing was a constant. They knew I would be okay.
Tirek said nothing, only blasting them. Unlike the brutal deaths of Equestria, Tirek did not make theirs painful. He wanted to send a message.
And so, on that day, my parents, Amina Louisa Root, and Scot David Henry, died, their last words being to each other.
"I love you"
At that apartment, I didn't know of the requiem. I was learning a lesion- some villains do have their rainbows.
