The next day Rachel and Frank decided to head up to see Herb. He had absolutely no idea they was coming. It was a long drive but when they got there it was around 10:00am. Herb was outside chopping up some wood. When he noticed Frank's new truck pulling up.
Herb: Well look what we have here.
Frank: Hay old man he said (walking over to help Rachel out the car.
Herb: RACHEL my god it's about that time isn't it.
Rachel: yes your going to be a grandaddy
Herb: I can't wait (he said as he hugged her) Frank don't just stand there get the bags. I got to catch up with my daughter-in-law. (Rachel laughed as her and Herb walk into the house)
Herb: So sweetheart how have you been?
Rachel: We have been really good, just getting ready for our new edition.
Herb: Well I have to tell you Rachel, I'm really glad you came back into Frank's life. I didn't care for whatever her name was.
Rachel: (laughing) Crazy Becky
Herb: Crazy that's the perfect name for her. I talked to the girl one time and then she had the nerve to call me dad. I don't even know her. (Rachel laughed) Really never seen her or anything.
Rachel: well did Frank tell you what she did to his car?
Herb: Yes that right there shows you something wasn't right with that child.
Rachel: Well you're stuck with me now.
Herb: And I'm happy about it so when's the date?
Rachel: For the baby?
Herb: No the wedding
Rachel: Wedding what are you talking about?
Herb: Hasn't Frank asked you to marry him yet?
Rachel: (looked down then back up at Herb) I don't think he's thinking about marriage.
Herb: Why you are carrying his child. And he almost died for you.
Rachel: To be honest with you I would love to marry him. But if he's just marrying me because I'm pregnant I don't want it. I want him to marry me because he wants to.
Herb: Well don't you worry it will happen.
Just then Frank finally finished getting in all the bags.
Frank: I didn't realize you packed so much stuff
Rachel: what are you talking about I packed lite.
Frank: Rachel you have six bags
Rachel: will it's cold (Frank and Herb laughed)
Herb: Well what brings yall here?
Frank: Was just checking on you?
Herb: oh you know I'm fine it's just always hard around this time
Rachel: (whispering to Frank) What is he talking about?
Frank: I don't know
Rachel: What happens around this time Herb?
Herb: it's the anniversary of my wife's passing. Frank I know you didn't forget
Frank: Well... I mean
Rachel: it's been a lot going on I'm sure it just slipped his mind
Frank: yeah
Herb: Well now that your here. Why don't you two come with me to put flowers on her grave?
Frank: I don't know if Rachel will be up for it
Rachel: of course I will
Herb: Great
Frank: excuse me (he got up and went upstairs)
A few minutes passed and it was clear Frank wasn't coming back down stairs. Rachel went upstairs to check on him. But it seemed that he had fell asleep. It was very clear that Frank still hadn't fully deal with his mother's death. But he would have to come to terms with it eventually. After a few hours passed Rachel went back upstairs to wake Frank up. He had been asleep all day. And her and Herb just finished cooking dinner.
Rachel: Frank wake up
Frank: huh
Rachel: come on baby you been sleep all day long
Frank: What? (He rose up and looked at his watch) What it's 4:00pm
Rachel: yep did you have a nice sleep?
Frank: I'm so sorry baby
Rachel: it's okay I know it was a long drive. Besides your dad kept me company. He's just been telling me embarrassing stories about you. (She laughed)
Frank: I bet
Rachel: Are you okay Frank?
Frank: (getting up out of bed) yeah why?
Rachel: I just get the feeling you don't want to go see your mother's grave.
Frank: Yeah well I don't! If I knew this was the reason he had been acting strange I would have never came
Rachel: Herb said you was a real mama's boy (she laughed)
Frank: he was just jealous
Rachel: Frank you know I get it. Remember I lost both my parents. It hurts like hell but it's something you gotta deal with.
Frank: I have dealed with it
Rachel: Then why don't you want to go visit her grave site. You can go say hello tell her you love her.
Frank: Oh is she going to speak back?
Rachel: God Frank don't be a jackass right now.
Frank: whatever
Herb: (yelling from down stairs) Dinners ready!
Frank: we'll be right down
Rachel: Frank
Frank: Can we just drop this please I don't wanna talk about it anymore. (He walked out the room)
Downstairs they ate dinner together. Rachel and Frank pretended as if they just didn't have a big fight upstairs. As Herb told more embarrassing stories about Frank. And Rachel told a few about Fletcher. Once all done Rachel helped Herb clean up. And then headed back upstairs. She took a shower then got into bed.
Frank walked around and made sure everything was locked before he took his shower and joined her in bed. But with end a few minutes of laying down. Frank had a break down. His mother had been on his mind all day. And it didn't help that his dad wanted to go see her gravesite tomorrow. Rachel was sleeping but woke when she heard Frank crying.
Rachel: Frank (she turned around to see him trying to wipe the tears from his eyes)
Frank: I'm okay go back to sleep
Rachel: No your not! And it's okay! Let me be here for you.
Frank: (he hugged her) I just didn't realize how much I miss her.
Rachel: You should tell her that.
Frank: Rachel it's hard, I wanna hear her voice.
Rachel: Frank this is why I think it's so important that you go to her gravesite. Tell her everything you want to tell her. You will feel so much better when you do. But just holding it all in it's not good baby. I will be right there with you.
Frank: you know I will do anything for you
Rachel: I know (she kissed him)
The next morning
Herb, Frank and Rachel all got in the car and headed to Frank mother's gravesite. Once they got there Frank started to get this aching feeling. He didn't wanna be there but his father and Rachel did.
At her grave
Herb: Hi my love, we brought you some new flowers. (He got down on his knees slowly to put them down) Oh how I miss you my love. So much is going on.
Frank: (talking low where only Rachel can hear him) I can't believe he's having a full conversation with a gravestone.
Rachel: He's talking to his wife Frank.
Frank: she can't hear him
Rachel: How do you know? We all talk to God and he answers our prayers. So why can't your mom hear him or you?
Frank: I don't know
Rachel: Well it's about time you do! Herb why don't we give Frank some alone time with her. We can walk back to the car and you can tell me some more story's.
Herb: okay, oh my love this is Rachel Frank's lady. There having a baby oh how I wish she was here for this.
Rachel: Well she won't be here physically but I'm sure she will be spiritually. Come on (her and Herb started walking)
At first Frank just stood there. He had no clue what to say. But he decided to just go for it.
Frank: Hay, it's been a long time I know. I just have been busy. But I know that's no excuse. My life has changed so much. And it feels like it all happened overnight. I'm about to be a dad. And the truth is I'm terrified about it. What if I'm not good enough? What if one day Rachel wakes up and decides I'm not what she want anymore? What if I can't figure out this whole dad thing? I wish you were here to tell me everything going to be alright. (tears started to fall down his face) I miss you so much mom.
Just then the wind started to blow. And very strongly in Frank's area. It ended as quickly as it started. But one thing was very clear. He heard his mom's voice saying Don't Be Scared Baby Go On. Well at first he just stood there shocked. It wasn't long before he realized what his mother meant. He smiled at her grave and told her bye as he walked back to the car where Rachel and Herb where standing outside the car talking. When he got back to them Rachel could tell he had been crying and gave him a big hug.
Frank: I'm okay I know now everything js going to be fine.
