"Just want ya ta know kid, this ain't nothing personal, it never is..."
BANG.
That shot was his last clear memory, and those words may as well have been his first. Yet he did not know who to thank for neither of them.
"How ya doing dearie?"
And those were his second.
"Good to see your awake son, we were begin to think you up and died on us."
He was beginning to wish he really had.
The pair who greeted him were an old man with a shortly trimmed white beard and a pudgy looking cow lady. She went up to The Kid and offered him a glass of water, he
refused. Then the old man offered him the same, he accepted.
"So son, what in Sam hell brought you to being in this predicament?"
He didn't feel like answering them, but if he did, he still wouldn't be able to tell them. His last clear memory was that bang, and those words which still haunted him...
"You tell me."
"Well! How very forward of you son! But no harm done, I suppose I would want some answers too if I were you. Don't suppose I'm the best person to ask really, was Sasha who found you."
"Who is this Sasha?"
"Why she's ma Deputy of course! Best around as well. She found you out in the desert bleeding up a creek and brought you to me
and ma Bess here, she patched you up and brought you to full health!"
The kid looked over at the pudgy cow lady sitting in a rocking chair smiling at the man. He didn't know why, but he felt a strange revulsion from looking at her.
"She did, did she?" He asked doubtfully.
"Yep! Ma Bess is a miracle worker!" He emphasised this point by leaning over and kissing her.
"Oh! Stop it ya ole charmer!"
The Kid stopped himself from cringing at the sight. Why? Why did this disgust him so much?
Before he could question that any further the door to the room he was staying in opened, and before he could look in its direction he
felt a weight on his whole body, knocking the wind out of him. He also suddenly felt very warm, and upon further inspection he noticed this was because something furry had landed on him, soft and furry. He also noticed this thing had piercing blue eyes, that were currently piercing him with a very excited look.
"Alright Sasha darling, your crushing the poor thing under your weight."
The furry form straddling his legs, now confirmed to be the so called "Sasha" that rescued him turned her head slightly to give a smug look to Bess.
"Oh, my weight? Bit rich coming from you Bess, compared to you I look like I could work a Brothel."
"Oh! I'm surprised you don't already work at one darling, with the way you dress!"
"Well when I have something to show off why
shouldn't I do it? I know YOU wouldn't understand what it's like to have a body worth showing off."
"Ooh, one day karma is going to bite your backside darling! You'll see!"
"Alright, alright Bessy, no need to start a shootout with Sasha, you know she's only messing around.."
"Derrick you always take her side! She has done nothing but insult me since you took her in!"
"I only do it cause you started it! Remember what you called me when I first came here?!"
"Nothing you didn't deserve..."
"Alright! Ladies that's enough, what must our guest think of us now eh?"
Sasha gasped and quickly spun her head around to you, concern in her eyes and ears flattened in what looked to be fear.
"I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..."
He took a sip of water and said "Do I look scared?"
"N...no I s...suppose not."
"Sasha I suppose?"
She perked up, eyes widening in surprise before exclaiming "Oh shoot! That's right! I didn't introduce myself yet!" She smiled suddenly at you, showing off her rows of canines. "Ya I'm Sasha! Pleasure to meet you! I'm been waiting to meet you officially for some time now! Ever since I found you in that desert, I was afraid you weren't gonna make it, but thankfully you pulled through! I knew you were strong as soon as I saw you! I..."
Before she could continue The Kid snapped her snout shut and looked her straight in the eyes.
"Slow down."
"Sowwy" she managed to muffle through her shut snout. He let her go and she looked down, a blush visible underneath her fur.
"Well now that introductions are out of the way how 'bout you tell us your name son?"
The Kid tried to remember but it seems he couldn't. He didn't remember much of anything, expect for the bang and those words so burned into his memory, but was there something else? A name maybe? Maybe, maybe...
"Kev."
"Kev eh? Sounds familiar somehow. Oh well,
I suppose you could have come around these parts before eh?" The old man said.
"I suppose."
"Well I love it! A strong name for a strong man!" Sasha said hugging Kev again.
This coyote sure was a strange beast...
"Well it really is nice having you with us dearie but I think you should take a walk around town, it will do you good to have a stretch after so long recovering."
"Ya! I can take you for a tour around town! I'll be like your guide!"
"Yes dearie, you could definitely use the exercise."
