Maya isn't as eager to fight as I am. I was looking forward to fighting her since I first lay eyes on her. Maya, I think she's actually doing it because she actually wants to kill me. She hates us, gods, and thinks were monsters. I have told her, that, not all of us are trying to kill her. The only one who is is Mictlan. He has all the others under his control. He left Papa since he is Mictlan's general. The only ones who aren't are the ones outside of the Divine Gate. They are safe.
"Why are you here?" Maya asked, stopping my sword.
"I'm here to protect you, Princess Maya," I replied.
"Protect me from Mictlan, sure," she said. "But why?"
"Mictlan needs to to finish his power. You, Maya, have the power to give Mictlan power beyond understanding. He needs you alive. He wants to sacrifice you."
"Why me?"
"You are the daughter of Lady Micte. The daughter of Death itself."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Lady Micte is Mictlan's wife. He could sacrifice her, but they have already wed. He never had a daughter with her so he wants to use you, since there is no room in his heart for you."
Maya jumped backwards. "Why does he want unlimited power?" I hesitated. "To end the human race...forever."
"What does he have against humans?" Maya jumped to a higher platform. "He finds humans to be 'weak', 'useless', and 'insignificant', all because they have no power."
Maya jumped down from the platform, missing me. Maya stayed silent. Instead, she charged towards me. I stopped her sword. She began to smile. There's the smile I wanted to see.
I couldn't help but to look her in the eyes though. There's just so lovely. Then I paused. Those eyes...they look very familiar
Suddenly, I remembered a child that I have seen before. The child that was in the Underworld. Lady Micte's baby.
Lady Micte returned again, to the Underworld, with a baby, a very pretty one in fact. Her eyes had this wonderful sparkle, the sparkle of hope. Plus, she still had both eyes. Mictlan, when he saw the kid, would yell at his wife for having a kid without his consent. He threatened to kill the kid now but, Lady Micte, being the wonderful person she is, tricked Mictlan into sparing the child's life.
She sent the baby away, to the world of the humans, to save the kid's life. That baby was half god, and that baby was Maya. However, I never understood what happened to the kid. I always assumed that she was with Mama, in the stars.
I would follow Papa around, hoping that he knew where the kid was. I had wanted to make a friend, but the only friend I've ever had was, and is, Colmillo, a puma fallen in battle. Now I understand, that child is Maya. Princess Maya. The kid I had seen before she was sent away. The person I had fallen in love with.
I found her. I found the kid. I found Maya. Maya's eyes has the same hopeful spark as they did long ago. The same hopeful spark that encouraged me. The same hopeful spark that I fell in love with.
My attention came back to Maya, who is once again charging at me. Lady Micte would be glad to see what her child grew up to be. I'm just glad that she's alive. "Come on, Zatz!" Maya cried from atop another pillar. "Is that the best you got?"
I smiled. "I'm just getting started!" We charged at each other. Instead of continuing the fight, we began to dance, kind of anyway. We spun around each other. I smiled harder, and for the first time, I actually laughed. Maya did as well. She is having fun!
We stopped spinning. "You're good!" Maya said. He resheathed her sword. "Gracias." I returned with a smile. "No, gracias, Princess Maya." I looked ahead to Luna Island. "You must be heading off now." Maya looked to the island as well. "Yeah, I guess."
I bowed to the princessa. "Gracias, Maya. Be well, Princess Maya. I will be back."
Author's Note
For this chapter, I wanted Zatz to discover who the long lost kid is. I realized that I've never mentioned that he did, so I had to put it somewhere. Plus, I wanted to show the fact that he fell in love with Maya by fate. It was just bound to happen! Anyway, thank you for reading so far and I hope you continue to enjoy! I do enjoy R&R. Thank you so much for your time and support!
