Luz was nervously waiting for the results of the spell. She wanted to scratch her back, but Amity told her that's bad for the wings.
"Well, after doing the spell and taking your blood for examination, I have concluded." Viney handed Luz a paper with the results, "Your half witch. And you have the worst looking Bile Sac I've ever seen."
Viney handed Luz a potion recipe.
"This should help with it; all of these ingredients can be found in the woods around your house."
"Thanks, Viney." Luz said, "Nice to know that my whole life was a lie."
"Luz, there could be a reason this happened." Amity said.
"Yeah, maybe your mom didn't even know about you being half witch." Willow said.
"Yeah, maybe your mom had sex one time and you were an accident." Gus said.
"GUS!" Willow and Amity screamed.
Luz looked at the ground, trying to understand this whole thing.
"Viney, can you teach me more about the wings? I don't understand it."
Viney gave her a sympathetic look.
"Sure." Viney said, "Now, wings are something that witches and several other species possess. When a witch gets closer to fifteen, they will begin to grow. Someone who's sixteen, like me, has learned enough to contain their wings and can keep them close to their back."
Viney demonstrated by allowing her wings to come out. They were large and the same shade of brown as her hair.
"As you can see, wings can come in many different shapes and sizes and varieties." Viney said, "Mine are Griffin wings, but Emira and Edric have dragon fly wings."
Luz wasn't even going to ask how they knew that, but Amity's face said it all. Viney continued.
"Now, almost all the clothes witches with wings wear, have a spell on them to allow the wings to pass through without ripping them." Viney said, flapping her wings and flew up a few feet, "When your wings are finally ready for flight, the sky is quite literally the limit. You haven't lived until you feel the wind on your face, the rush of adrenaline, the feeling of terror and joy. It's like falling, but knowing you have nothing to fear."
Viney landed and her wings went back under her shirt, resting calmly against her back.
"Some wings also help keep you warm, like mine. Feathers are great for several things, like keeping heat stored or even being waterproof, which can protect you from the Boiling Rain." Viney said, "Anything else I can help you with?"
"Do you know anything about how to find family?" Luz asked.
Everyone turned to her.
"What?"
"I'm half witch, which means I have family in this realm. I could find them and get some answers." Luz said.
Viney thought about it but had no luck.
"Sorry, I don't know. I could do a blood test, but without the other parent, it would be pointless." Luz looked down and Viney put her hands on Luz's shoulders, "Listen, I'll do whatever I can, I'll see if anyone could find a way to find your other parent. Just because I can't get your answers myself, doesn't mean I'm going to let you do this yourself."
Luz hugged Viney.
"Thank you."
"Hey, Detention Track students stick together."
From a distance, someone was watching Luz.
"Well, looks like the Human... is more than a human."
