The next day, Luz woke up and found that she didn't like sleeping on her stomach. There's one problem with having wings, you can't sleep on your back.
"Hey, you up kid? You don't want to be late for school... or maybe you do, I won't judge!" Eda said from downstairs.
Luz got up and stretched, feeling that her wings have grown more, they were almost twice the size they were the day before, which isn't much, they were still smaller than a spoon and you couldn't tell what type they would be. Luz got her shirt on, which she would wear under her uniform. Luz walked down stairs and sat at the table.
"How're the wings, Kid?" Eda asked.
"Sore."
"Yeah, I remembered when my wings came in, it really sucked having them grow, but I don't have any problems with them now." Eda said.
"What kind are yours?" Luz asked.
"Do you really need to ask?" Eda asked, "They're owl wings. I don't know if they were always going to be owl wings or if it's due to the curse, but it doesn't matter. Long story short, it might be an absolute pain in the ass right now, but that feeling of flying... there's just nothing like it. Huh, I actually haven't spread my wings in a while... I'm flying you to school."
"Don't you always?"
"Not like this." Eda said, before thinking of something, "Your half witch, which means... Oh, I think I will enjoy this."
"What?"
"Your witchy side has been weakened by living in a nonmagical world, which means." Eda pulled out one of the potions that she made to help Luz's bile sac get stronger, "Drink this."
"I mean I have too anyway." Luz said taking the bottle.
Luz drank it and cringed at the bitter taste.
'You'll get magic, you'll get magic.' Luz kept thinking, the only reason she's drinking these.
"Good, now that you're going to gain your magic... try this." Eda said, sliding a plate filled with eyeballs and glowing... pancakes?
Luz picked up a fork and took an eyeball. She ate it very hesitantly, but to her surprise, it was delicious. Luz kept eating, surprised by this sudden world of food that she's never known. Eda smiled, she was always willing to make special foods so Luz can eat, but being able to buy normal foods, it makes her happy. When Luz was done, Eda took the plate and told Luz to go outside. Luz obliged and Eda walked out a few seconds later.
"Alright kid, watch and learn."
Eda's wings popped out of her back, making Luz gasp in awe.
"Wow, that's awesome!" Luz said.
"I know, now comes the fun part." Eda said, grabbing Luz by the arms.
Eda took off, giving Luz her first feeling of flying without a staff. It's not uncommon for a parent to do this with their kids when their wings start to show up. Seeing as Luz doesn't know who her other parent is, this would half to do.
