Chapter Two
Meg quickly got to her feet. She looked around. She was in the middle of a forest and it was dark. She tried to remember what happened but couldn't. A quick flash entered her mind. A sick older woman with red hair, laying in bed sleeping. And she went into her room to say goodnight. Meg couldn't remember anything else.
Meg decided to leave where she woke up, to find a way out of the woods. As she walked, she reached into the pockets of her sport's top. They were empty. Meg noticed she had gotten dirt all over her top and leggings. She sighed. As she did, she heard a soft crack behind her.
Meg stopped. She turned around to see if someone had been following her, but she saw no one.
"Hello...?"
No one responded. Meg began to walk again, this time a lot slower. She quickly stopped and turned around. No one was there, but this time Meg was certain she had heard footsteps directly behind her. Meg quickly ran away. She ran through the trees under the darkness. After a few minutes of running, she quickly hid behind a tree. Her heart was racing. She knew she wasn't alone.
After a moment, she heard soft footsteps get closer to where she was hiding but stopped. Then she heard a bell ring a few times. Meg inched her face from where she was hiding to stare in disbelief. A tall figure appeared from nowhere. The figure wore some kind of cloak, had a bell in one hand and a weapon that looked like a human skull and spine in the other. Its face was dark and covered in mud and dirt, its eyes glowing white, and tiny pieces of wood appearing from the top of its head.
The figure looked around for a moment. After, it rang the bell, disappearing once again. Meg stayed where she was, in fear that it was still there waiting for her to let her guard down. She started to notice she could see it even though it was invisible. Lines began to take shape and eventually, she could see it looking around still in the dark. It then began to move away, leaving her.
A few hours later, Meg walked quietly through the woods, unsure of what else may be out there. She hugged herself, feeling alone. She wondered if anyone would find her or if anyone was even looking for her. Her thoughts gave her a feeling she had felt before, a long time ago. Before she could think any further, she heard a loud scream in the distance. She stopped. She wondered if it was possibly a trap for her. Then she wondered what if someone needed her help. Meg closed her eyes for a second. She opened them, and ran in the direction of the scream.
