Rock The Cradle
Chapter 6
Several nights later, It was another night of a Transport mission as Akabane was out and about, picking up extra transport work with Himiko and Magaruma. The three of them worked quite well together, especially during these dangerous missions. Moreover, Akabane was more so looking forward to bloodshed while out on a job. As the cargo was loading up in the truck, Himiko and Magaruma were awaiting for Akabane's arrival,
"Not surprised Jackal is late again." Himiko commented to Magaruma.
"He'll show up soon." Magaruma answered before Akabane approached them.
"Looks like I have arrived just in time." Akabane commented as he approached Himiko and Magaruma with a smile.
"About time you showed up." Himiko said, looking over at him.
Once the cargo was loaded up, the three of them got into the truck, Magaruma in the driver's seat, Himiko on the passenger side, and Akabane in the back where the cargo was held to keep guard of it. Magaruma also had a bag of shrimp chips on the dash to share with Himiko and Akabane. Once they were ready to head out, Magaruma, AKA Mr. No Brakes, started driving off to head to the destination. It was just like any other mission, but Akabane was hoping to get his mind off of the nightmares and focus on the mission. Himiko heard something get run over on the road and started chuckling,
"Well, whatever you ran over, it squished." She snorted.
"Well shit.. literally." Magaruma answered as he then took a bite of a shrimp chip.
"Geez, Magaruma, your mind is somewhere else." Himiko jokes.
She looked back at Akabane and noticed that he hadn't said anything while her and Magaruma were making epic jokes about road kill. His mind was somewhere else.
"You're usually not so quiet, Jackal, so why now?" Himiko asked in wonderment.
"I'm just not in a laughing mood." Akabane answered, "Especially about those kinds of jokes."
"Okay, We can always do Dad jokes since you are going to become a father after all."
Magaruma couldn't help but let out a chuckle, "Akabane, a father? Yeah sure."
"Well Sayaka is pregnant, and it's indeed his baby, Mr. Magaruma." Himiko added in.
"You gotta be kidding me? You know what you're dealing with here, Jackal?" Magaruma commented, keeping focused on the road.
"Yeah… I am aware." Akabane answered dryly, "A baby, but I made a promise to Sayaka."
"Since when have you ever promised anything?"
"I mean… Magaruma does have a point, Jackal. You have never really kept so-called promises. Are you willing to give up all you enjoy to raise something that shits and drools?" Himiko questioned him. "I mean you seem like the type that doesn't want to waste time and space to raise a kid, especially when you like to spend the majority of your time cutting up bodies."
Akabane paused, but he lowered his head. He was aware that yes, he does like to spill blood for fun and amusement, yet he wants to be there also for Sayaka's sake as well. He wanted to prove that he can indeed hold promises.
"I don't care.." Akabane commented, "I may not care for many things and yes I may enjoy having a little fun, but I love Sayaka… and I promised to protect her."
Next morning, Sayaka was up already, fixing some breakfast for her and Akabane. She was quite hungry for some pancakes with some fruit such as strawberries, bananas, oranges, blueberries, and kiwi. She figured to make a fruit salad along with the pancakes. Coming into the kitchen, Akabane enjoyed the smell of homemade pancakes. Fixing some tea, his mind was flustered after what Himiko and Magaruma were telling him last night. Despite all that, he was also relieved that Sayaka was starting to eat a little more to fuel her pregnant body.
"Do you need a hand, my dear Sayaka-chan?" Akabane asked with a smile, as he was waiting for his tea to cool.
"Don't worry, I'll be okay, Akabane-kun." Sayaka responded as she was flipping some pancakes.
"I know, but remember not to overexert yourself. I don't want you ending up with a miscarriage."
"Oh silly, don't be such a worry ward." Sayaka chuckled
Akabane paused for a moment as his smile faded. He was indeed worried for a reason as the nightmares he had been having seemed so real. Sayaka noticed the look of concern in his eyes as she sighed. She felt bad upsetting him like that. She offered the griddle and spatula to Akabane.
"I'm sorry, Akabane-kun." Sayaka commented with sadness in her eyes, "Here, I can let you finish the pancakes."
"You don't have to apologize." Akabane answered as he took the griddle and spatula to assist Sayaka with the cooking and smiled, "I just want to make sure you're okay."
"Okay. Well, while you do that. I can fix the fruit salad. I have been craving fruit." Sayaka giggled.
Akabane chuckled as he wrapped up on the pancakes. He then turned off the stove and began serving them on a plate to take to the dining area. It wasn't long until Sayaka finished up on making the fruit salad and then brought it over to the dining table along with orange juice and some tea . Sitting with Akabane at the table, they both began serving their plates. Sayaka took a bite of the pancakes that Akabane helped out with.
"Perfection, you did well. You're quite a good cook, Akabane-kun." Sayaka commented as she was enjoying them.
Akabane smiled as he was glad to see Sayaka enjoying the pancakes, "Well, you did forget that before you took me in, I was living in that studio apartment for a short period of time and had to provide for myself."
"You mean that run down studio apartment that was falling apart?"
Akabane chuckled, "Well, at least it had a somewhat working stove."
"You're lucky the most that happened was that a fire started after you were lighting it with a match. After that, that's when I took you in, so you wouldn't sleep on the streets."
"And I am grateful for that." Akabane smiled as he took a bite of a strawberry from the fruit salad, chewing it before swallowing, "Mmm… this is good."
"Glad you love the fruit salad, Akabane-kun." Sayaka smiled as she was enjoying the fruit salad also.
