Chapter Seven
After several minutes of greetings and introductions, Dwight, Meg, Claudette, and Jake sat with their new group. Nea was an urban artist. Ace was a gambler, or just a "really lucky guy" as he put it. Feng played video games in a cafe even though her parents disapproved. David got into several fights in his time, and broke a lot of bones too. Adam was a teacher from Jamaica who traveled to Japan to teach. The only to surprise the group the most was Jeff, who was just an artist. He showed the group a painting he did of the campfire which impressed them greatly. Jane was actually a talk show host and celebrity which Dwight and Claudette recognized. Both noted how friendly she was in person. She couldn't help but laugh, while thanking them. And Kate was a country singer. She had returned home from being on the road to learn Dwight had disappeared a few days before. After deciding to look for him, she went to the woods where he was last seen and woke up where they were. She apologizes to Dwight for leaving him behind.
"No... It's okay, really... I just wish I remember you as much as you remember me." Dwight said.
"I know... I didn't remember anything until a month ago. David was the last one to remember his life before. I'm more surprised you don't remember Meg." Kate said.
"Remember Meg?" Dwight asked
Dwight and Meg both looked at each other then back at Kate, waiting for her to explain.
"Well, yeah... We went to high school together. Meg was your best friend." Kate said.
Dwight tried to think, remember anything from before. But his mind had blocked everything out completely. He turned to Meg.
"I'm sorry... I just don't remember anything." Dwight said.
"It's okay. I know." Meg said, with slight disappointment.
"Seems like most of us know each other," Claudette said.
"I don't know you," Nea said angrily.
"That doesn't sound too bad," Jake said.
"You got something to say, pretty boy?" Nea asked.
"Calm down, kids. Calm down." Ace began. "Emotions are running high because we're lost in never ending woods where killers and monsters and ghouls are after us."
"What?" Dwight asked.
Kate began to tell the group of the killers they had encountered. The Nurse, Doctor, Huntress, Clown, Spirit, and Plague. All nicknames they knew but were unsure how they knew. Jeff was the only one who didn't encounter a killer of his own.
"Kate, Adam, and Jane found me. I never saw anyone." Jeff said softly.
"Jake didn't either," Claudette said.
"Maybe there's not enough killers to go around," Ace joked.
"Or there's just more victims," Feng suggested.
"Maybe. But there's more of us. If we all work together, we can find a way out of here. Isn't that right, Dwight?" Jane asked. She gave him a small smile.
"Right," Dwight began. "We'll rest here. Then we'll leave in the morning."
"Good idea," Kate said. She smiled.
Dwight did too slightly. Kate and him sat on the edge of a log close together. Meg stayed with Claudette and Jake, the latter she found acting weird. Their pet crow rested herself against Meg, and closed her eyes.
A few hours passed and the fire had died out, giving off a little smoke. Dwight layed on the ground, and Kate beside him with one arm across his chest. Meg slept beside Claudette, Jake, and their crow. David, Nea, and Feng slept nearby. As well as Adam, Jeff, and Jane, the latter using Jeff's stomach as a pillow. The group's pet crow eyes opened and began to crow repeatedly. She poked Meg's hand with her beak. A woman wearing a nurse outfit and a pillowcase over her head, hovered a foot off the ground beside Meg, with a bonesaw in hand.
