Rock The Cradle
Chapter 11
Later on in the evening, Akabane noticed Sayaka was feeling a little discomfort. She hadn't been feeling well since the explosion from earlier on around the Infinity fortress when they were trying to escape. He had never seen her in this rough of shape before as he began to grow concerned. He kept a close watch on her so her symptoms wouldn't grow any worse.
"Sayaka-chan… are you okay?" Akabane commented as he was by her bedside, holding her hand.
"Akabane-kun…" Sayaka began to speak, but before she could finish, she passed out in bed.
"Sayaka! Sayaka!"
Akabane noticed once he put his hand on her forehead, she was running a low grade fever. He quickly carried her in his arms to head to the infirmary at the Black Ice headquarters.
"Hang in there, Sayaka-chan…" Akabane commented as he quickly headed to the infirmary.
Arriving at the infirmary with Sayaka in his arms one of the nurses gasped as Akabane came in with the Yakuza boss passed out.
"Oh my god, what on earth happened to the boss?!" The nurse questioned.
"She has a low grade fever and suddenly passed out. She needs to be checked out." Akabane answered.
"But sir, Dr. Yamato is not in though… what should we do?"
Akabane sighed as he could fear losing her and the baby here and now if it was anything serious. He suddenly zoned out for a moment as he had another flashback to where he had that talk with Sayaka about facing his past and making the right choice. He could hear her words playing in his head again. He had no choice but to face the past that had been haunting him. He felt under pressure, but he didn't want to lose her. Not tonight. He opened his eyes and looked over at the nurse,
"…. Let's take her to the examining room…" Akabane commented as he carried Sayaka and headed over to one of the examination rooms.
"Mr. Akabane, you can't. Only medical professionals are allowed back there." The nurse responded as she was blocking Akabane's path.
Akabane frowned with a serious look, "I don't care… I may not practice in the field anymore, but I promised to protect her. Unless you want her to die which will be bad for the Organization… she needs to be examined…"
The nurse bowed, "Yes sir… let's get her into a room."
Quickly getting Sayaka into an examination room, Akabane gently set Sayaka down onto the examining table. Taking vitals to make sure her blood pressure and pulse was good, which it was, blood had been drawn too to run some tests. After a while of examining and tests and getting results, the nurse looked over at Akabane, waiting for instruction.
"What now, Sir?" The nurse asked.
"I may have an idea on what may have happened." Akabane answered as he looked at the charts on the clipboard, "Insulation from smoke."
He sighed as he was lucky not to lose her and the baby as he resumed, "Not much we could do on our end, but I am going to take her back to the manor where she'll be able to rest and not go out for a while for not only her sake, but for the sake of the baby."
"Yes.. best to do that." The nurse added, "But I will say, thank you, Mr. Akabane for helping her."
"… No need to…" Akabane said coldly as he saw Sayaka was now peacefully sleeping.
Ha carried her back to the manor to let her rest and take it easy. He had felt bad about what had happened earlier.
The next morning, Sayaka woke up to the baby kicking and Akabane sleeping by her bedside. She was feeling better this morning and was starting to recover a little bit. She couldn't help but smile a little bit seeing Akabane sleep peacefully. She couldn't help but run a hand through Akabane's hair as he woke up a little bit.
"Good morning, Akabane-kun." Sayaka commented as she smiled tiredly.
Akabane heard her voice as he looked up at her, "Sayaka-Chan… I'm glad you're okay."
"Yeah, I guess word got out about what you did… I want to say thank you."
"No… it was my fault for putting you in danger. If we hadn't wandered near the Infinity Fortress… you wouldn't have been exposed to smoke insulation during that explosion. I'm failing to protect you…"
Sayaka shook her head, "But you did protect me Akabane-kun…" she placed a hand over his hand, "When I thought I was going to die… what did you do? You managed to face part of your past. I knew you had faith buried deep in yourself and you managed to prove that you did. It shows that you have grown much stronger than before."
"…." Akabane had no words as he was still unsure about all of this. He didn't feel like a hero as he was never a hero.
"Look… you may not see it now, but I see it. I will always see it within you, Akabane-kun. I know it's still a process, but I know that what doesn't kill you makes you much stronger." She smiled.
Akabane couldn't help but smile as she made that comment, "Well thanks to your heartwarming speech, I am no longer bored."
"Oh you butt!" Sayaka giggled as she poked her tongue out before she felt another kick, "Akabane-kun, baby is kicking again."
Akabane chuckled as he placed a hand on her belly to feel the kicks. Sayaka moved his hand over near where the kicks were.
"Right here, you'll feel them. It feels.. warm." Sayaka commented.
Akabane rubbed her belly gently before he started to feel the baby kicking where he had his hand. He smiled softly.
"It won't be long now until we are blessed with this child." Akabane commented as he leaned in to kiss her belly.
Sayaka was happy to have Akabane by her side always despite a rollercoaster of emotions and drama.
