Chapter Fifteen
Dwight, Claudette, Jake, Yui, and Zarina arrived inside the guest bedroom. Dwight opened the door slightly. Men and women walking down the hallway in exotic outfits, chatting and laughing as they did.
"Okay. Yui and Zarina will meet with the contacts. Claudette and Jake will search his bedroom, or his office, for the Auris." Dwight said.
"What about you?" Claudette asked.
"I'm going to find Grimes," Dwight said.
The group left the bedroom slowly. Claudette and Jake went one direction, Yui and Zarina another, and Dwight followed the partygoers to a large room. The ceiling was made of glass. Dwight could see the storm continuing, rain hitting the glass above them. He began to search for Grimes, or anyone who might know him. In the center of the room, was a man with blonde hair, wearing the outfit of an aristocrat. He was talking to a group of people about his study. Dwight noticed he had a wooden cane. Before Dwight could confront him, he spotted a young woman with long blonde hair with flowers in her hair and familiar tattoos, wearing an orange dress.
"Kate?" Dwight asked.
Kate turned around. Her eyes widened. She ran to Dwight and wrapped her arms around him.
"What are you doing here?" Kate asked.
"Grimes..." Dwight said.
"My boss?" Kate asked.
"Boss?" Dwight questioned.
"Kate, who is your friend?"
Dwight and Kate turned to see Talbot Grimes beside them. He gave Dwight a small smile, studying him.
"You know exactly who I am," Dwight said.
Grimes gave Dwight a knowing look. He let out a small laugh. Dwight noticed something in his eyes.
"Follow me," Grimes said.
Grimes led Dwight and Kate to his office, away from the party. Inside was an office similar to The Observer's, but more clean and filled with more books. Grimes placed his cane on his desk, and stood in front of it. Appearing from the side of the room, a familiar redhead young woman, wearing an outfit similar to Kate stood.
"Meg, your friend has finally arrived," Grimes said.
"Dwight?" Meg asked.
"Meg... Look, I don't know what Grimes has told you, but he's on the same side as the Entity. We don't have much time-" Dwight began.
"No. You don't, Dwight. Time was all we ever had. The memories..." Grimes began.
Claudette and Jake entered the room, finding them all. Followed by Yui, Zarina, and two others. A blonde man wearing a blue suit. And a woman with brown hair, wearing a colorful orange and white top and black jeans.
"Felix. Elodie. I should have known it was you two who helped my old friend Vigo." Grimes said.
"Here," Felix said. He gave Dwight a small glowing device. The Auris. "The Observer told Elodie and me to find this and watch over it until you arrived."
"He also said you'd know what to do," Elodie said.
"I don't..." Dwight said.
Grimes laughed. He lowered his head. "Y-you... You stupid, boy. You. Your friends. The Observer. Vigo. All ignorant to what the Entity is... What it can do for us all..."
Grimes quickly ran to Dwight. The man grabbed Dwight by his neck. Felix tried to help him, but Grimes hit him away, knocking him back into a wall. Grimes' hair began to fall out of his head. His skin became pale. Parts of his body like his arms and back grew slowly. His eyes gave off an orange glow.
"You c-come into my house... Steal my device... But don't worry... It wasn't the only thing I've made..." Grimes dropped a serum of some kind. He held Dwight closer. Hate had consumed his eyes. "I-I... The Blight will kill you and your friends..."
Those were his last words before he became the monster he had always been. The others watched in horror. Dwight managed to choke out a few words.
"Guys... He's a killer..."
Dwight took his cane and hit the Blight in the head. The monster dropped him. Kate and Meg helped him up. Elodie helped Felix up, and the group began to leave the office, then running down the hallway. The creature left the office with his cane, running after them, while crashing into the walls. The group entered the main area where all the guests began to notice them. The Blight followed them, and all the guests began to scream in horror. Claudette tried to open the book, but the Blight hit her, knocking her down and the book away. Guests began running over the book, kicking it away.
"The book!" Dwight yelled.
Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Kate, Yui, Zarina, Felix, and Elodie all tried to reach the book. The Blight began killing the guest running near him. He swung his cane, cutting men and women down. Dwight grabbed the book, and the Blight noticed. He let out a growl and rushed towards Dwight, grabbing him. Their crow appeared and flew into the Blight, exploding. The Blight let go of Dwight, but the book fell once again, sliding away. Claudette tripped over a dead body and crawled toward the book. She finally grabbed it and opened it. The glass ceiling above them exploded. The Entity had found them all. The estate began to break away, similiar to Benedict's manor. The Blight grabbed Dwight by the neck again. He began to return to normal, Talbot Grimes once again.
"It found you, Dwight. And this time it won't let you escape." Grimes said.
"Good," Dwight said. He focused on the Entity, Grimes, and him. He then took out the Auris. It began to glow, emitting a light that blinded Grimes and everyone in the large room. A white flash washed over Dwight. He remembered everything. His life before this. His parents. His friends. His home. His memories with Meg and Kate. And finally, he knew what to do. He took the chance to hit Grimes, who let him go. Claudette opened another portal. A portal to the realm of the Entity. Grimes now stood in front of it. He looked at Dwight.
"No!"
Dwight kicked Grimes into the portal, and in an instant, it disappeared. He looked above to see the legs of the Entity appear, reaching for them all. Dwight went to Claudette and took the book.
"I know what I have to do..." Dwight said weakly. He read a passage in the book and a new portal opened. A portal with a blue color.
"That's the way home. You all have to leave now." Dwight said.
"What about you?" Felix asked.
"I have to stay..." Dwight said.
"You know, we waited decades for you," Elodie said. She gave him a small smile.
"I wish I had known you both longer."
Felix and Elodie looked at each other then back at the portal. They were the first to enter, disappearing before them.
"Are you sure about this?" Zarina asked.
"No," Dwight said. Zarina gave him a small smile. Zarina was gone.
"You're braver than I thought," Yui said. Yui was gone.
Claudette and Jake went to Dwight. Claudette tearfully hugged him. Jake did too. Dwight looked at them.
"Goodbye," Dwight said.
Claudette gave him a small smile and took Jake's hand. Together, they were both gone.
Before Meg could speak, Kate went to Dwight. She took one of his hands.
"I know you might not remember everything... between us. But you know... And I know you belong with her." Kate said. She turned to Meg, who only watched them. "Your final goodbye... Your final memory should be with her."
"We're still friends, right?" Dwight asked. Kate tearfully let out a small laugh. She gave Meg a knowing look, and disappeared.
The estate was almost gone. Dwight and Meg were left. Dwight took Meg's hand. They looked into each other's eyes. He kissed her before letting her go. She tearfully nodded. Meg was gone. Dwight looked up at the Entity. He closed the book and placed the device on top of the book. It slowly disappeared. The device became a part of the book. The white glow grew in size. Dwight was gone.
Act Four: Epilogue
Dwight opened his eyes, waking up from a sleep that felt like it lasted decades. He looked up to see a clear blue sky with clouds. A face appeared over him. A young girl with red hair in two pigtails.
"Dwight?" Meg asked.
"Meg?" Dwight asked weakly.
"Yeah..." Meg said tearfully.
"Are we dead?" Dwight asked.
"No..." Meg let out a small laugh. She bent down to help Dwight up. Around them were their friends. Claudette, Jake, David, Nea, Feng, Ace, Jane, Jeff, Adam, Kate, Yui, Zarina, Felix, and Elodie.
"Hey everyone..." Dwight said.
Claudette hugged Dwight, as did Jake, and a familiar crow landed on Dwight's head. The group laughed.
After a few hours of walking, the group had found a road. They could see a small town in the distance. Dwight and Meg stopped, letting the others walk ahead. All of them talking about their adventure, smiling and laughing. Dwight turned to Meg.
"You should probably go home..." Dwight said.
"Yeah... My mom will probably kill me. I don't even know how I'll explain everything that happened." Meg said.
"I could be there..." Dwight suggested.
Meg let out a little laugh and held her hand out. She smiled at Dwight. He smiled too and took her hand. Together, the pair followed their group of friends. Their crow flying above, over the clear blue sky.
A few miles away, in the woods. A woman emerged from the shadows, with a deformed creature tucked away in her opened chest. The small creature jumping, letting out a scream...
A/N: (Warning: Very Long) So I wrote this story two years ago after Elodie and the Twins were released. Looking back... This story was not good. I won't use the excuse that I was a new writer because I wasn't. Not really but I was still learning and I am now. I know I've taken on too many stories now and I hope to fix that issue before next month and have a better plan. I cringed rereading some parts of this story (such as the Dwight/Meg/Kate drama and dialogue issues and how short a lot of scenes were) but I figured I should post it here and on Ao3 anyway. I plan to rewrite this story. Hopefully, over the summer. And hopefully, have it done close to Halloween. I'm pretty sure 90% of this story will be completely different. It's almost funny how before more tomes were released, I was on the ball with the theory of time travel and different universes being in play even if that had always been a fan theory which later had more merit with the release of future tomes. I also stand by using only original survivors and killers. I am happy with the release of licensed stuff but they already have their games and movies filled with lore. Dead by Daylight has its lore but I still feel like it's not given enough love and I do have love for the original survivors and killers. Originally, I only meant for there to only be survivors and killers from release to Elodie and the Twins. But now we have Yun-Jin, Mikaela, Jonah, and Haddie who are all interesting as well as the Artist, the Dredge, etc. I plan to include and expand on all of them unlike how I did in this story. The last paragraph here was me forgetting about the Twins entirely much like the fanbase ingame lol so that should let you know how badly I did this story. But I'm still proud to have completed it years ago and I do like the ideas I had even if they had been badly done. Regardless, expect a rewrite of this later this year around Halloween. Hopefully lol
