Author note

Hi everyone ! I'm Skylen Xander but you can call me Xander , Skylen or Sky in short . This is a story of my life, from my childhood to the very day as you read it . This story is inspired by WhenBooksFly's story called Why So Blue ? (WSB? In short) . This story is based on what i experience in the game "The Isle". I will try my best to make it look as nice as I can 'cause I'm not fluent in English, so I might make some mistakes, but be sure to tell me what you want me to improve as this is my 1st story I will publish, even if it's going to be just for myself as the other one I had once on deviant art got well .., canceled cause i had no viewers or ideas what to write next. But this is a different story because it happend and I will have more motivation to write it. So I guess we can get started with this story and once again a big thanks to WhenBooksFly for inspiring me with her great story that I recommend you to read !

Chapter 1 : "The Beginning Of a Fall"

It was a cold night. The moon was high on a cloudless sky sheding some light to the clearing of the forest. In the forest can be heard quiet murmurs of dinosaurs sleeping. Those dinosaurs are Allosaurus ... A whole pack of them. Mostly adults, but there is some adolescents and hatchlings there as well all sleeping thougever but not too close to one another scattered in a circle with lower ranks laying on outer edges while higher ranks like hunters, scouts and beats layed close to the middle of a circle with their young while alpha pair slept in a very middle of a circle. The alpha pair had only one youngling that slept soundly under a female. That juvenile little allo was me, Xander. I barely remember this part of my life as it was really painful to me. That specific night was when all hell broke loose. None of us expected to be in any danger by sleeping close to a clearing, because we felt like we were strong and my Father, an alpha of the pack, was the strongest on the island as far as I saw. Wasn't he? That's where I was wrong. I woke up to a deep sounding growl. I slowly started to open my eyes, letting out a lazy yawn as I was expecting to see two of lower ranking members growling at eachother for slightly better place to sleep. Unfortunately it wasnt that, none of the pack mambers were starting a fight so in my still sleepy mind and alittle bit blurry eyesight I thoughed I just was imagining something before i saw movement on the edge of the pack's circle. It was one of the males that woke up due to the same growling I heard but he was far more awake and keen then I was at the moment and soon he spotted danger alerting the pack by trying to scream out loud.

"Rexes ar-"

His scream had been cut short as a giant beast close its jaws on his neck and he started to cough out his own blood .

Everyone was woken up by the scream of now a fallen dead packmember, most still dizzy from waking up in the middle of the night. Some of them got a chance to get themselves out of world of dreams quickly and stand up with a terrified expression following their awakening while others were very unlucky to wake up seeing jaws closing on them and struggling to dodge them or set ther neck and heads free off of the massive jaws that quickly crushed their resistances giving them a quick death as thoes that survived tried to fight back while few that tried to flee were almsot imidietly cought and their lives ended. The pack now facing over a dozen of rexes was now suddenly cut in half as alot have died before the battle could really start for them.

Yunglings to the forest! NOW !" My mother ordered as she pushed me and the other younglings to the only safe spot at that time.

"Go with them I will try to stop them!" I heard my father's voice from behind as he was already on a back of the beast, biting its thick neck. He was our only hope for survival. Not only was he strongest, but also the smartest. As I run and stopped to watch in horror many more of the pack dieing and numbers begain to melt from over 30 adults before the attack to less then ten, but even though numbers werent in their favour to the surprise of everyone one of the rexes dropped dead with my father on top of it letting out a threatening and challenging roar to other rexes whitch sparked a flame of anger and hate in eyes of other rexes and sparked hope and courage in remaining few allos even if they were still outnumbered, they werent going without sending few more with them to doorsteps of death.

I saw all of that happend in such short time, I wanted to chirp and jump up and down to cheer the fighting pack mates, to cheer my father but before I could utter a sound I was was shocked to see my mother that was just behide me makeing sure we got out of the fight safely she got pulled back by one of the rexes that sheanage to quickly throw off of her and cause him to go dizzy for a moment with a quick kick to his jaw and using this moment she looked towards the hatchings, me and few more, young adolescents that stopped at the commotion behide them

"Run ! Run now ! You arent safe in the open! hide!"

Then she looked at the adolescents and spoke to them.

"Please take care of the younglings until its over." they simply nodded and tried to push me and other younglings to move deeper into the woods. But I could not just leave my mom like that .

"Mom!" I screamed as I was pulled by my tail by one of the adolescents.

She then looked at me with a calm gaze, but I could see the pain and fear in her eyes.

"You are our only child Skylen . Save yourself and the others . We will find you when its over" then she reassured me with a gentle nuzzle and said.

"Now go ! And listen to the older ones"

As I started to cry like I knew I was seeing her for last time, I whimpered.

"I won't let you down. I promise !!"

As my mother heard it she smiled and said

"Good, I know you won't! Now go and hide!" she said and went back to fight just in time to fight off incoming attack

I had never run so fast in my life . It was not only because I was afraid and adrenaline was pumping in my veins, but also by fact that I tried to keep up with adolescents.

"G-guys ... wait up! Hatchlings are falling behid !" They finaly slow down the quick pace so I had some time to catch my breath while hatchlings tried to come to us, nearly collapsing when they made it.

"Th-thanks" one of hatchlings finally spoke up after he catched his breath and shivered in terror.

We were all exhausted and we could not help it, so we laid down on the ground under a tree as sounds of a distant battle were still present.

"We have to move soon" one of the olders sayed.

"W-we barely ... made it!" Said one of the hatchlings, panting.

"I agree, we are all exhausted. Just let us rest for a moment longer please" I tried to convince the olders. Even if I knew they were right and we should keep moving but I knew my legs would refuse to take another step as my adrenaline almsot complitly runned out.

"Grrrrr fine!" Said an younger adolescent. "But I won't wait for you when the rexes come here!" He added after a short pause.

The older adolescent looked at him, irritated by his actions.

"They are just kids remember!? You would be just as tired if you were as young as they are" Spoke the older one letting out a quiet growl.

The younger adolescent just huffed in response and moved alittle bit to the side looking around to see if there was anything incoming.

As we layed there the time went on until everyone was almost fully rested but our legs didnt wanted to move still this time from the fear we all felt

Then we suddenly heard movement to our left. We all went still and listened to the movement trying to guess where it was moveing to but soon hatchlings begin to sob as quiet as they could to not alert the creature of their presents. They were shaking in fear like all of us but they definitely did feared the most.

After a painfully long moment the sounds of footsteps begain to go opposite direction from us.

"Whatever it is it's just passing by we are safe" I said as I tried to calm the younglings and I went still as I realised thoes words didnt came out as quiet as I I their were going to. I stayed quiet and listened.

for a moment I could hear the noise of footsteps but all of the sudden it hulted.

'Grate, just when i said we are fine, it will now come to us! Good job Skylen!' I thought to myself as the hatchlings looked at me terrified.

Noises of heavy foots started again. Lucky for us they did not come into our direction .

When the sounds of the heavy steps faded I let out the air I did not notice I was holding.

"That was a close one I guess..." I said relieved that it was over .

"Hush there younglings" hummed an older adolescent gently .

I immediately shut my jaws with a sorry look on my face.

"It's almost sunrise" he whispered as he looked around us.

"We will move soon" he added shortly after.

As we sit there for abit longer in a deep nervous silence we decide it's time to move as we were all fully rested.

As we move between branches and small rocks, careful to not make any noises, we try to get to the nearest water source to get something to drink and have a chance to catch some easy prey.

after abit of walking we found the opening in a forest with a small peaceful pond. Adolescents began to look around for any signs of danger as we tried to calm ourselves and drink a little from the pond

"Soooo... what's the plan now ?" I asked the older adolescent.

"For now we will try to hunt something and if we succeed we will stay here for a while" he replied with a small spark of hope that quickly disappeared as he felt the sadness in his heart as he didint knew what will they do if noone will come for them.

"But if we won't get any food here we will need to slowly move back to where our pack was.., maybe someone will be there" he added and sighed afterwards.

"Ok... and one more thing"

"Yes?"

"Thank you for letting us rest back then" i said wagging my tail.

"You would do the same" he replied trying to sound calm and he showed a small smile to reassure both me and other younglings.

Our small conversation got interrupted by the younger adolescent calling for us to come to him. At first I thought he saw a rex but i quickly realised his voice wasnt field with fear whitch helped me calm down and follow older adolescent.

As we got to him, he had his jaws covered in blood and then he showed us a freshly killed avaceratops. He succeeded on a hunt and younglings including me jumped up and down as we were happy to see the food

"Nice job with that ava" said the older adolescent as he praised him and his fresh kill.

"thank you, I was lucky it was alone out here" the younger one replied.

We all began to feast.

After everyone was done eating. There were still leftovers. So the older adolescent suggested we stay there for a while. As time passes by, we ate the rest of what was left of the ava and started to move back where our pack was. Hoping they survived.

When we finaly arrived to where our pack used to nest adolescents stopped us.

"Stay here we will go and see if it's safe out there" said older adolescent as they both moved out of the bush we were hiding in.

After a painfully long while that felt like hours they still hadn't came back or call us to them. The silence put me on edge and my fear grow more and more but I did my best to not show it to two hatchlings that were there with me.

"Stay here. I will go and see what is takeing them so long. I will be back soon. If I don't come back in few minutes run away back to the pond if I come back and see you are not here I will go there, okay?" I asked trying to sound as brave as i only could.

"O-okay" they replied and shivered quite abit.

As I walked to the last known place I saw adolescents, I spotted them on a clearing among countless bodies of allos and few dead rexes as they were pinned down to the hard ground by two large adult rexes whitch made me whimper and it cought their attention. Soon when they realised it was me they screamed

"RUN!! SAVE THE YOUNGLINGS ! YOU CANT SAVE US !"

When they screamed, both of the rexes looked in my direction.

"Oh shit!"

I started to run where the hatchlings were, calling out them that danger was comeing. While I was running I heard painful screams of two adolescents being torn apart. I run faster and faster trying to make it to the hiding spot of the hatchlings, but when I finaly got there, they were gone.

I assumed they did what I asked them to and they ran back to the pond, but just as I was going to let out a sigh of relief i walked up closer to the bushes I noticed blood and chunks of flesh whitch made my heart drop in my chest.

"w-was this their blood ?" I said to myself in head as I let out a whimper while my heart field with overwhelming sadness whitch almost caused me to not notice movement to my side.

The next thing my pupils fixated on were giant jaws emerging from the bushes next to me. I barely dodge the teeth as I begain to run towards the trees hoping to lose it in the woods, but it's jaws were coming closer and closer with each missed bite.

I was so scared I did not know how much longer I could run or if I can even somehow make it out. I ran not paying attention to where I was going and when I got out of the forest still looking behind me I felt like I began to lose my footing. Before I could react I was falling down a hill. After what felt like an eternity I hit the ground and passed out.

After some time I woke up with alot of pain across my whole body as I only heard ringing in my ears from the force of the fall. When I cam to my senses I realised I was still alive whitch surprised me since when I was rolling down the side of a quarry i was positive those were my last seconds of life since it took me a long time before I hit the ground on the bottom. As I struggled to stand up I feel every part of my body hurting really badly as if every bone was broken. Fortunately besides some bruises and small cuts, I was fine. What a miracle I thought.

"Where am i?" I ask myself as I try to regain my footing.

"Ouch that hutrs" I yelped as I tried to rely my weight on my slightly more injured leg.

Looking up, I realised I was in quarry and uppon looking on its edge and listening to the sounds I knew the rex that was chasing me was gone or at least I hoped so.

"sigh this looks like a long climb ... if I can even climb back up" I said to myself, worried I may not get out of here

Luckily after a while of trying to find a way up I spotted it. A path that lead all the way to the very top of a quarry. I was thrilled to find the exit and my mood brightened up alittle bit. While I was walking up I was near the top I heard a bush above me rustle. I started to back away a bit and then something jumped towards me. It was a utahraptor. I was terrified and did my best to keep him in front of me but I knew I had no chance in a fight with it, I was way smaller and slower then it.

He leaped forward again tried to bite me, but I managed to dodge one then twice by third time hit me. I felt the sharp pain on my shoulder but it stopped as soon as it started the pain lessend as I saw the utah going back up to the top and soon running away. At first I was confused by it but then the reason for the utah running off made itself know. I heard stomping and a distant roar. I got stunned in fear as I tried to run, but decided to hide back in the quarry I was in. When I runned all the way down I found a small space between some rocks that had fallen over eachother. I crawled under them and hoped the creature won't come down here as I tried my best to reach my arm to lick the wound that luckily wasnt too deep as the Utah didnt closed his jaws with full force and the fact he got spooked by the noise definitely was one of reasons I survived the encounter. After some time i have heard no sound comeing from anywhere around me. At that point I didnt knew that a quiet forest was a sign of danger and a predator approcheing but at that moment the silence reassured me that whatever made a noise wasn't coming to me. I relaxed my aching muscles and sighed in relief but shortly after I managed to relax I heard careful steps and small rocks falling down... by then I knew that something big was trying to be sneaky.

'D-did it saw me going down here' I thought to myself as my heart begain to race again, thinking that the rex that was chasing me before was back.

When the footsteps begin to be louder and louder I closed my eyes in fear and I begged for this to be only a bad dream and that I will wake up next to my mother once more.
