Chapter 2
Penny
"Why, why, why, why, why Steel", ranting to my horse while cleaning up his poop had become one of my favorite activities since I found out another sibling was coming to live with me.
"He doesn't seem that bad." Steel's mental voice flooded my headspace.
"Oh, but he is. Or so I've heard." Steel whinnied at me as if telling me I'll regret saying that later. I stood back taking a look at hard work and my disgusting horse.
"You need a bath."
I slipped Steel's navy halter over his ears and led him out of his stall to the wash area. The wash area needed a good clean as well, the black mats were drowning in a good couple of inches of water. I waved my hands over the water, the energy stirring in my hands sucked the water from the mats and into my hands. Much better.
"Let's get you cleaned up bud."
I raised my hand towards the hose, willing water to be forced out of the pipes, once I had a good-sized blob of water in between my hands I spread over Steel's body wetting him. I let the water settle into his coat before raising my hands again removing the soiled water. Steel, satisfied with my cleaning job, took himself out of the wash stall and trotted back to his stall.
"Hey, Penn." Oh great, he's in my barn now. "I was going to take Percy on a beach ride and was wondering if he could ride Simba?" Ok, so he rides getting slightly better.
"You should be asking Jamie if it is his horse."
"I know Penn but he's not here." I rolled my eyes. My father's sass matched mine so there was no point in arguing.
"Simba pulled a shoe the other day, you can take Pippin."
"Pippin?" My dad's face was priceless, a mixture of are you crazy (Yes I am) and are you trying to kill your new brother, and yes I am also trying to do that.
"Yeah Dad, Pippin."
"OoK"
Pippin was an untrained four-year-old horse who barely knew how to canter with a rider on his back, which seemed like a good choice to test the noobie. I am such a good sister. I didn't stay at the barn long enough to find out how that train wreck of a ride would start and end, I had promised my mom I would sift through some old files with her. I was not expecting what the next few hours would consist of.
"είσαι τόσο πεισματάρης.'
"Τουλάχιστον δεν προσπαθώ να απαλλαγώ από τις φωτογραφίες του μωρού της αδερφής μου."
"Ugh, Penny, why do you have to be so much like your father." I shrugged but I was not aware it was a "bad" thing.
"I just don't understand why you want to get rid of them like they're adorable." My mom grumbled in response so I decided to drop the topic. Arguing with mom is not fun, actually, scratch that yes it is. I started clawing through a pile of my baby pictures when I was distracted by a pair of muddy boots that obscured my view. I glanced upwards and peered at the extremely dirty and, surprisingly wet, Percy Jackson.
"Whoa, what happened to you?"
"That horse, Pippin, tried to kill me."
"Huh how bout that," I muttered under my breath. My mom cleared her throat, breaking the awkward silence between Percy and me.
"Percy, why don't I show you to your room while your father and sister have a little chat?"
My mom led Percy away to his new room keeping his attention away from me by asking him questions about blue cookies. Leaving me and my dad alone.
"What's going on with you?"
"Nothing." I was trying extremely hard to keep my tone blunt, my dad could practically read my mind so I always had to be careful what I said around him.
"Well, it's obviously not that because you just put your brother on a practically unbroken horse."
"He's not my brother!" I shut my mouth quickly, registering what I just said.
"Ahh, I see, I am going to give you some space. I'll tell your mom to send your dinner up when it's ready."
I trudged up the stairs to my room and flopped on my bed, swamped in my thoughts. I was about to start stress pacing when my phone pinged.
"Amira?"
"Mom!" I scrambled to the edge of my bed and threw my phone across the room, accidentally… "Why are you smiling like that?"
"Nothing."My mom her trademark dumb smirk plastered across her face.
"What?" Great, now I was smirking.
"It's just adorable to me that every time she texts you… your whole face lights up."
My head drooped in an attempt to hide my blushing face. Once my mom had left I scurried around my room searching for my phone.
(Amira) Hey, you.
(Me) Heey.
(Amira) What's been going on with you lately, you went dark on me?
(Me) I know I'm sorry, this week… has been kind of… stressful to say the least.
(Amira) Talk to me.
(Me) My half-brother Percy Jackson came to live with us today and everyone is acting as if we should just get along great right away but I don't want another sibling right now.
(Amira) Wait like Percy Jackson and The Olympians Percy Jackson.
(Me) Yes, Mira that Percy Jackson.
(Amira) Well it's a big change for you and I know you hate change but I say just give the kid a chance he might not be that bad.
(Me) Yeah, I guess so, I got to go love you.
(Amira) Love you.
I was just about to call her so I could see her cute little face when I heard a soft knock on my door.
"Penny?"
"Come in mom."
The room filled with the scent of grilled lamb as she entered the room, my favorite. She set the plate down on my bedside table and then left my room. I quickly gulped down the meal and then set the plate back on my bedside table. My eyes started to get heavy so I laid down and let myself drift off to sleep.
"Haha, stop it." Great a dream but at least this one is about Amira.
"You stop it." I hated when I used to have giggle fits all the time.
Amira was attempting to put makeup on me but me being as stubborn as I am was not a fan. But I eventually gave in. She was too cute, her dark brown eyes, black hair, and caramel-colored skin complimented each other perfectly.
"Hold still." She giggled "Hold still or I'll smush your face."
"No my weakness."
"Oh, you mean this."
She pressed her hands into my cheeks and started rubbing them in circular motions like a baby.
"Stop it." I forced every ounce of willpower I had into my words but I was too busy laughing. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe, Amira leaned over and kissed me on the nose which made me finally stop.
Finally, a good dream for once in my life. This day seemed like it was going to be a good one.
"Penny! It's training day."
Nevermind.
