Hello and welcome to my newest story: Notes of the New World. This is an indirect sequel to my first story Diary of a New World, and in that regard takes place in the universe of 30 percent by Jackboy0815.
Although it is not necessary to have read the prequel to read this one, you will need some knowledge about the world this story is taking place in, and in that regard I still highly suggest you read one of these two I mentioned first.
The chapters of this story will be rather short, but will be released more frequently than what I did in the past. The first goal I'm setting is to have one chapter ready per week.
All that being said, enjoy!
Saturday evening: Arrival
My name is Sara, Human, and if you're reading this… Then hopefully I am here as well in one piece?
But in case I'm not. I was one of the passengers of the flight Strasbourg-Marseille which ended up landing in the middle of mountains on the 18th of April 2022, In what seems to be the Alps.
Which, if things have changed since today or you're living under a rock, this is not good news for me at all. The region being inhabited exclusively by Elementals while tensions between them and humans are still quite high in some places don't make this the best vacation place.
Now that you have more context… You're probably wondering how I ended in this situation. So I'll recap…
I was on my way to visit some family members living near Marseille alone, taking a plane to do so as the road infrastructure was still damaged, and not always the safest in the current situation.
Everything was fine at first, nothing particular to notice. A portion of the plane was dedicated to Elemental, restricted to the ones who were physically compatible with being in a plane. They also needed a special authorization which required a lot of tests and paperwork to make sure they wouldn't just go rogue mid-flight.
In that regard, they only were around a dozen near the back of the plane. I remember seeing a Herdier and a Hitmonchan among them.
But around 45 minutes after taking off, we felt a rather strong turn to the left.
No one reacted at first, but when the flight attendants began to act more and more panicked, things went downhill.
First, people began asking them questions, to which they were unable to reply other than by trying to reassure them, poorly.
But after about 5 minutes of this mess, one of them took the phone at the front of the plane to make the announcement which went something like that:
"We lost all contact with the cockpit and the pilotes, and the door was emergency locked, which means there is no way even for us to access it from the outside. We have no idea what is going on but we are now flying East."
Unsurprisingly, this didn't calm anyone in the plane, and chaos quickly ensued. First, some people stood up to reach the door of the cockpit to furiously bump it or even try to break it down, unsuccessfully. Meanwhile, some others were already putting their heads in between their arms, as if the plane was about to crash.
Things stood that way for a minute or two, until someone suddenly yelled "It has to be them", pointing at the Elemental in the back, literally two rows behind me.
Once again, I was forced to witness unjustified conflict between these two groups who were
born the same. But this time, I was quite literally at the worst place possible. It only took a few seconds before the man who shouted began to charge the group of Elemental, just as panicked as the other, and a few other people joined him along the way, as the Hitmonchan took a few steps forward to protect the other.
A few of us tried to stop them on their progression, without really succeeding as they were clearly ready to go all in in this useless fight.
The last thing I remember is me trying to grab the man on the front of this riot, getting violently thrown on the side, and hitting my head against the corner of something.
Silence. The first thing I noticed when I slowly began to regain consciousness was a complete silence, a quite unexpected calm after the storm.
It took me a bit of time to finally open my eyes, only to realise that I was entirely covered with some sort of blanket. A minute later, I slowly pulled myself up, first sitting and putting what was covering my face on the side.
I was still in the plane. Sitting on the hard ground between two rows of seats. But no one was around, no artificial light on, and no engine noise. Putting my hand on my head made me wince in pain as a large bump which had visibly bled a little bit was now very much present where my head hit the corner, probably of my own seat.
After getting up for good, grumbling, a quick look by the porthole confirmed to me that we had landed, in the middle of a field with mountains very close, same thing on the other side. We had visibly landed in a valley. It was hard to see though as the sun was already down, and barely leaving any light in the sky
A longer inspection around me confirmed that I was truly alone. There were some signs of a fight, one of the seats on the back had claw marks on it and there was a lot of random stuff on the ground.
Speaking of, most of the people's luggage were still here, as if everyone just disappeared or left in an emergency and left me.
Searching in my pockets, my phone was missing as well. It didn't take me long to find it, lying on the ground, the screen completely broke and overall not turning on.
Progressively coming back to my senses, I explored the rest of the plane. The front was as empty of human beings as the back was. Though, I felt a rather cold air flow. Reaching the front, it appeared to me that the main door was fully opened.
And so was the cockpit door. But there again, no sign of any of the staff members.
Given the night sky, it must have been between 21 and 22h. So I had to find a place to sleep.
I took a look outside, and spotted a few cottages in the shadow, around a kilometre away.
That's about the moment where all the pieces of the puzzle came together, and I understood that I was most likely in the Alps, and therefore quite in danger.
I now had two choices:
Sleeping in the plane, and risking being found by someone who wouldn't like my look during the night, on top of being very cold given that I had no idea how to close a plane door, and wasn't gonna find out tonight…
Or aiming for the cottages, which would provide me a comfy place to rest, but I'd need to make it there first, hope that there is no one there who wouldn't like my look, and be able to break in easily.
After some careful consideration despite a hurtful head, I've decided to go with option 2, spending a night in a ghost plane not being exactly a dream of mine.
I took all the stuff there was left that could help me, mainly water, a flashlight, and my backpack because you never know, and left this not-flying-anymore metal box for good.
Trying to be as alert as I could, I began to walk towards my destination, trying not to use the flashlight while there was still some light. Surprisingly enough at this point, I reached the cottages without further troubles. No light was visible on the inside.
I was starting to get really cold, and quite tired. After investigating for a bit, I found a backdoor which wasn't strongly locked. And after using all the delicacy I had (I don't think anyone will be complaining about this lock being broken anytime soon), I was in.
The place is rather small… Clearly not meant to be more than a vacation home for some lucky family. But I quickly found everything I needed for the night.
After doing a quick tour of the place, and eating some sardines in oil that were left there, I found an old mostly blank notebook, and I'll be writing what will happen to me here during the next few days. But for now, I really gotta sleep, and my head still hurts quite a lot…
