It was only a few days after he had sold Prompto the flowers. Noctis was at the front desk this time, just reading through the various gardening magazines that he had laying around for when the day was slow and no one was stopping by.

He was deep in reading about new potting soil techniques when the door opened. "Hey dude!"

Noctis lifted his head to find Prompto standing in front of the desk, grinning happily.

"Uh, hi? You're back."

"Of course I'm back! I had to after what happened. I have to thank you so much, dude! Like seriously, you and your store are lifesavers."

Noctis raised an eyebrow. "I… what did I save?"

"My friends! I totally was afraid I was going to screw up and ruin what they had and cause them to break up or something. But when I gave Cindy the flowers and she gave them to Aranea, they were perfectly happy and content! Ah, it was so cute to see Aranea's reaction when Cindy handed her the bouquet. It was so perfect!"

Slowly, Noctis tried to process what he was hearing. He tried putting it all together with what he recalled Prompto saying last time, trying to add it all up together.

"Wait, you mean you… you bought flowers for your friend for her to give to her girlfriend?"

Prompto nodded. "Yup! Cindy was always so busy with her work lately it felt like she had any time to do anything nice for Aranea. That's why Cindy asked me to try and find some nice flowers, so after her day at work she could have them ready to give to her special girl. Work hours, y'know? Made it impossible for her to get away to get them herself, and so that's where I came in."

"So you're not taken," Noctis muttered softly.

"What?"

"Huh? Oh, uh… I meant," Noctis looked around the front desk, trying to find an excuse.

His eyes quickly drifted to the orange roses he had in a vase on the counter. He reached over and pulled one out and handed it to Prompto. "Uh here, this is for you."

Prompto eyed the rose for a moment, looking between it and Noctis. "A rose?"

"Don't worry! I just cut the thorns off this morning," Noctis said quickly, wishing Prompto would take the rose already. He wanted to bury his face so badly, but as he stood there holding his arm out with a rose in hand, there wasn't much else that he could do.

Carefully, Prompto took the rose. "Okay…?"

"I-It's uh… It's ah… give a random customer a flower day!"

"That's a thing?"

"It is at my shop!" Noctis replied, internally slapping himself for the stupidity of it. "S-Something new I decided to try. Once a week I will give a random customer a flower."

"Well okay then," Prompto shrugged. "I guess if I am the lucky random customer then I get to keep this pretty rose."

Noctis breathed out, trying to slow his racing heart. "Yeah, enjoy and uh, yeah."

"Thought you said roses were what people expected though? Random flower giveaways and you give away the 'cliche' one?" Prompto joked lightly.

"I could give you something else if you want. Something more unique."

Prompto smiled warmly. "Sure, why not? Give me something really cool for being the random customer of the week."

'Okay Noct, you can do this. Do something that can really make a good impression,' Noctis told himself as he walked through his shop.

He looked over everything that he thought Prompto could like; from daylilies, to tulips, even to daffodils. There were so many choices he felt that Prompto would like, but he wasn't sure what would make the strongest impact.

And then he saw it. The perfect choice of flower to give to Prompto.

He reached over and picked up a small clump of forget-me-nots. He ran to grab a small ribbon to tie them together and handed them over to Prompto. "Here we go, this will be your special flower of the week."

As Prompto traded the rose for the small bouquet of forget me nots, he looked a little puzzled. "All of these? Isn't that more than one flower?"

"That's just how they grow, but I can count it. Cause you know, special flowers for random customers, gotta make it work," Noctis stated, trying not to cringe at whatever stupid words kept flowing out of his mouth.

"Cool! So what are these ones called?"

Feeling his cheeks heat up, Noctis tried to look Prompto in the eyes as he spoke. "They're called forget-me-nots."

"Wow, I think I've heard that name before. Maybe in a movie or tv show. You give them to someone so they remember you right?"

Noctis nodded quickly. "Yup! That's right."

"That's so smart! What a way to promote the store!" Prompto laughed happily. "Using forget-me-nots is probably the best option if you want people to not forget about your business. Great choice!"

"Y-Yeah, I think so too."

"Well I gotta run, but don't worry, I definitely won't forget about this," Prompto said as he held the bouquet up. "See you around!"

"See ya," Noctis said, waving again as he watched Prompto leave.

As soon as the boy was out of sight, Noctis felt like his legs were going to give way. His heart still was racing, and he barely had time to recover as a normal customer walked in. He breathed in deeply as he could, and regained most of his calm and composure.

Now all he had to do was get through the rest of the day without thinking about Prompto again.

It proved to be pretty hard as every free moment, Noctis started to think about the encounter. He started wondering if he said the right things or if he had really chosen the right flowers to give. Maybe the forget-me-nots were really the right choice, since he could do nothing else but think about the situation over and over again.

He still couldn't get Prompto's wonderful smile out of his mind. That golden smile brighter than everything else. Brighter than the yellowish flowers he tended to. Brighter than the sun itself. Bright enough to fill every part of Noctis's heart with warmth for years to come.

'If I ever do see him again… I have to try and ask him out. I have to try at least something to make sure I can see him again.'

The days went by and it seemed like nothing would happen. There was no sign of Prompto coming into his store, or even just passing by the window. Noctis was just about ready to give up when at the end of the week, the door opened and in walked Prompto.

"Hey! I hope I'm not too late. Work has been a killer this week, but I finally got off early and thought to run down here to see if you were still open."

"Uh, yeah, I got like twenty more minutes before I close up shop. Do you need more flowers for your friends?"

"Nah, not them this time around. This time I'm looking for flowers for my mom. Her birthday is today so I thought it would be best to buy flowers at the freshest they could be," Prompto explained.

"Ah, birthday flowers for the mother," Nocits nodded, trying to keep himself together this time. "That's an easy one. Come on, I'll show you the good choices for a mom."

"Alrighty! You're the expert, Noctis."

Noctis smiled at the compliment. "Thanks. So uh, yeah roses are also a good choice for moms, but if you want to go with something else there are plenty of other things. You could go with tulips, orchids, carnations, peonies, or even a colorful array of lilies."

"Oh! The lilies sound nice! Can you show me what those look like?"

"Sure thing, but you know, you could make a mixed bouquet. A few lilies, roses and other colorful flowers," Noctis said as he led him over to the section of his shop that had the lilies.

"Aw man, that sounds even better! Let's do that!"

"You're just going to agree with everything I tell you?"

Prompto nodded. "Yup! Cause you know flowers and I don't! Oh! Also thanks again for the forget-me-nots, they really brightened up the room."

"No problem, glad they could do that," Noctis replied.

He slowly started to gather the flowers needed to make a nice arrangement. He had roses, pink daylilies, and a few red and pink carnations scattered in between. He set them all together before he started to wrap it up carefully, making sure every flower would not be crushed within the wrap.

"So, how much is this going to cost?"

"This is a small bouquet and a mix of flowers, so this type is about… $39.99 plus tax."

Prompto pulled his wallet out to hand over his card again. "Oh, wow, that's like, way less than those other flowers. Guess it makes sense though with it being smaller and a mix of things… I think."

"It's a bit complicated how the pricing works, but somehow it just ends up being what it is," Noctis replied as he completed the transaction.

"Well, if it works, it works! Your flowers did magic last time, and I think that can justify the price. Can't wait to see mom's reaction though," Prompto said as he took back his card and picked up the bouquet.

"I bet she'll love them."

"Oh, yeah, I won't deny that! Thanks again, dude, you are truly amazing. A-Ah, I mean, you and your business! The business you run and how you do it is amazing."

Noctis blushed again, noting how Prompto's cheeks were also a shade of red. "Well, if I can impress the customers, that's what works right?"

"Yeah, you know it. So I'll see you around! I know I definitely want to come back."

"Well, when will I see you again?"

"I'll be back before you know it," Prompto grinned as he headed to the door.

"I'll see you then."

As Prompto was halfway through the door, he turned around and smiled brightly once more. "Yeah, see you too, Noctis."

"Oh yeah, uh, just one thing?"

"Yeah?" Prompto asked, tilting his head.

"You can just call me Noct."

A new warm and comforting grin spread across his face. "Sure, I can do that, Noct. See you around."
