"So, how about some flowers that will liven up my apartment?" Prompto asked Noctis one day as he strolled into the shop.
It had almost become a regular occurrence now for Promtpo to show up at least once or twice a week. He was always coming in to get flowers for just about anything. From flowers for a friend, flowers for some other family member, even flowers to liven up his apartment.
"Didn't you come in three days ago for that same thing?"
"Oh uh… y-yeah! But you know the flowers need friends too! You told me yourself, flowers love company, so why not get more flowers for my flowers!"
Noctis burst out into laughter. "That by far is the strangest request I've ever heard, Prompto."
Puffing out his cheeks, Prompto pouted. "Come on, Noct! The customer is always right, aren't they? You want me to actually buy more flowers, don't you?"
"Of course I do! I just think buying flowers for your flowers is really cute."
"C-Cute?" Prompto stammered.
Noctis ducked his head away. "Y-Yeah, cute. That's what I said."
Even if he was nervous and maybe a bit embarrassed, he was going to push through. Today would be the day he finally expressed how he felt to Prompto. He would tell him and then if Prompto felt the same, he would ask him out on a date. It was what he had been planning all morning, and he was just about ready to set it into motion.
"So, um, if you think that…" Prompto started to say. "Would you like to go on a date to the botanic gardens?"
Noctis's mouth dropped open.
Prompto had beaten him to the punch.
"Y-You want to go on a date with me?"
"Well I don't think you would say an idea is cute to a regular customer now would you?"
Noctis shook his head. "No, I wouldn't, and honestly… I was just about to ask you to go on a date with me."
Prompto was practically gleaming now. "Dude, no way! That means it's totally meant to be! You and I and a little date to the gardens."
"You really want to go to the botanic gardens?" Noctis asked.
"Sure! Why not? I think it could be the best for both of us. You get the geek out about flowers and tell me all about it. And I'll bring my good camera to take pictures of all the lovely flowers you like."
Smiling, Noctis reached out and placed a hand on Prompto's arm. "I think it sounds like a great idea. So, how's Sunday at noon sound? Meet outside the gardens?"
"Perfectly okay to me. Can't wait to see you there," Prompto said as he placed his own hand over Noctis's.
"I can't wait either."
"So um, before I go… to make sure I'm not dreaming this or anything, could I… can I give you a kiss?"
Widening his eyes, Noctis was a little shocked how forward Prompto was trying to be. "You want to kiss me?"
"I-If it's okay with you! I won't do it now if you aren't comfortable with it or anything. Could save it for Sunday or whatever."
Noctis felt his chest tighten up at the possibility of waiting until Sunday. Now that the thought of kissing Prompto was brought out, he didn't want to leave it unanswered. He wanted to feel those lips against his. He wanted to know if Prompto's face was as soft as his smile.
"W-We could try it now. No one else is here anyway."
"But aren't you like, on the clock and stuff? Isn't there something that could get you in trouble?"
Noctis laughed as he shook his head. "I'm my own boss, Prom. I think I can get away with one little kiss without having to scold myself for it later."
"Okay, if you're sure," Prompto said as he leaned closer over the counter.
Noctis met him half way and their lips gently bumped together. There was a small giggle from Prompto, but it quickly faded as they let the magic of the kiss take them away.
Though Noctis would not admit it to Prompto anytime soon, this was his first kiss. The first time he kissed anyone that he had any romantic interest in and it just happened to be a guy who started coming in for flowers for his friends. It didn't bother him though how it started, in fact it was the opposite. The need to buy flowers was what brought the two of them together, and he wouldn't have had it any other away.
When they pulled away from their kiss, Noctis could see how red Prompto's face had become. No doubt his face was probably a similar color. "So, phone number?"
"Huh? Oh! Phone number that's right!" Prompto exclaimed. "That would be smart to keep in touch. Plus hey, we could totally trade King's Knight information."
"I'm surprised we didn't do that on week one," Noctis replied as he pulled his phone out.
"Hey! We were naive and in denial back then," Prompto snickered. "Too shy to ask the pretty boy across from us for a game ID."
Noctis narrowed his eyes slightly before he handed his phone over. "Too shy? Who says I was too shy?"
"Just because I wasn't aware of your feelings before, doesn't mean I don't remember your fumbling around me. I thought you were just really bad at being social at first."
"Well I am a little socially awkward…"
Prompto laughed as he typed his number into Noctis's phone. "Then why do you run your own flower shop?"
"Cause I like flowers?" Noctis replied as he got his phone back and then immediately sent a text Prompto's way so he had his. "And besides, it's good practice for interacting with people."
"And if one of those people happens to be a beautifully dreamy blond?"
Noctis hummed softly. "Then you've found my weakness. Especially if this blond is covered in freckles. That's like an added bonus."
"Blond and freckles… let me see if I know anyone that fits that description," Prompto hummed cheerfully as he scrolled through his phone. "Ah, here's someone. I'll text you a pic and you can let me know if he 'fits your standards' or something."
A second later Noctis got a text message from Prompto, he opened it up to find an image. He clicked to enlarge it and stared happily at a picture of Prompto by a pond, taking a selfie with a duck.
Noctis tried his hardest to fight back his laughter. "Well I don't know about the blond, but that is one savvy looking duck."
Prompto snickered. "He was a pretty cool duck. Really loves to eat bread. Maybe I can introduce the two of you sometime. You two could have a lot in common, like video games or flowers."
"Maybe, but I guess until then I'll have to stick with you. You are pretty easy on the eyes anyways."
"Ah, you're just saying that," Prompto said as sighed cheerfully.
"Well, we do have a date Sunday, so I might as well brush up on some compliments," Noctis replied.
"This Sunday is going to be the best day, I can just feel it," Prompto said.
"Me too."
"Can I… can I have one more kiss before I go? Just to make sure?" Prompto said as he leaned in close again.
"Of course. Anything for you, my favorite customer," Noctis said as he kissed Prompto once more.
With the world melting away for those sweet seconds, Noctis found himself bubbling over with happiness. Even if they hadn't officially started their date, Noctis could already feel that things would continue to go well between them. Together they would be happy, and together their love would blossom just like the flowers that surrounded them.
