Annabeth's hand slipped when he spat out the answer.
"Yeah, I killed him. Served him right, for fighting against the Titan Lord!"
Maybe part of her had been hoping that he was still alive. Maybe part of her wasn't expecting such a bold answer. Maybe her mind just really wanted to kill the son of Ares.
Maybe. But all Annabeth could see was the red that now coated her standard knife, the dead eyes of a solider that read war, and the crimson slowly spreading across the muddy dirt.
Fuck.
After several minutes of pacing, she called Thalia. Annabeth knew she would understand, especially after seeing the murderous rampage she'd went on after a few of her hunters had fallen during the war.
The rainbow was thin - the clearing was almost too black for Annabeth to see three feet in front of her - and the connection spotty, but she told Thalia her story.
Told her to stop searching for the killer, to call off any other search parties she knew of. The killer was dead.
"I-" Thalia looked bewildered. "Okay, yeah, just go find Chiron... And make sure the monsters don't smell his blood. Hide him as much as you can and go tell Chiron."
The connection was gone, leaving a fading rainbow, before Annabeth could say bye. The sun - to be fair - was setting, and the familiar conch horn blew out, signaling dinner.
Now, how does one explain murder of a murderer to a Centataur?
