Taking a break from the angst. Decided to post fluff today before working on the next chapter for Grief of the Madrigals. Please enjoy!
OoOoOo
Agustín was twelve when he met a resplendent, benevolent diosa right in his hometown.
Of course, he knew of the amazing Madrigals. Who hadn't heard of the Magical triplets born to the Encanto founder and leader, Alma Madrigal? But it wasn't like Agustín had ever spoken to them personally, they were two whole years older than him. What he knew of them came from the whispers throughout the town.
"Pepa's rain replenished all of my crops!"
"That darn Bruno told me my frog would run away!"
"Julieta healed my sprained ankle!"
But at twelve years old, Agustín didn't have an interest in such things. The triplets never talked much with the other children in the Encanto. Besides, He was too busy playing fútbol with his friends to be concerned about the so-called fantastical Madrigals.
Ironic, considering playing fútbol was exactly what led him to his diosa.
Agustín had never been afraid to admit that he was quite clumsy and hurt himself often. But it had never amounted to anything serious until this particular afternoon. Because this particular afternoon, he had somehow managed to slam his face against the goal post, resulting in a swollen nose and bloody mouth.
His friends panicked. "¡Dios mío!" exclaimed one, Diego. "Quédate aquí, I'll go get Julieta!" He took off before poor Agustín could even comprehend what had happened. All he knew was that his face hurt, more than it ever had in his life. He was in so much pain that his sight had become blurry with tears.
Before he knew it, Diego had returned. "He's right here, Julieta!" he exclaimed. "Can you help him?"
"Ah, of course, chico," a gentle, calming voice assured his friend. Agustín found that he quite liked the sound of it. A hand softer than silk laid on his wrist. "Hola, Agustín. My name is Julieta. I'm going to give you something to make you feel better, bien?"
Agustín sniffed and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to hide the fact that he had been crying. "S-Sí."
The girl, Julieta, gently prodded his mouth and slipped an empanada into his mouth. "Eat this," she urged him.
He did as she told him to, even though chewing hurt his mouth. A warm feeling spread through him and the pain was gone almost instantly. He finally opened his eyes to meet what he could only describe as a goddess.
Her eyes were a warm coffee brown, her short dark hair in beautiful curls. She wore a simple blue dress and held a basket of empanadas against her hip. She offered him the most brilliant, beautiful smile he had ever seen. "All better?" she asked.
Agustín didn't answer. His mouth wouldn't move. All he could focus on was how pretty the bows in Julieta's hair were.
"Agustín," stressed Diego from his left, elbowing him sharply.
That more or less snapped the boy out of his trance. "A-Ah!" he stuttered, then cursed himself for stuttering. "G-Gracias, señorita!"
Julieta laughed at him, a sound prettier than any music he had ever heard. "De nada, chico," she said. "Be more careful next time, sí?"
"Sí!" Agustín answered a little too quickly. She gave him one more disarming smile before being ushered away by another villager.
After Julieta left, Agustín was, of course, subjected to teasing by his friends. But he didn't care. He had just met the most beautiful girl in town! Their taunts meant nothing to him, they could laugh all they want.
He promised himself he would marry that girl, no matter what.
OoOoOo
I like to imagine Agustín and Julieta's relationship as Agustín crushes on her for years, she finds him sweet, and they get together in their mid 20s. I hope you liked it and please review!
