"Dad, I don't need you to give me a lift to work, I can drive myself" Violet groans in the car seat, giving her dad a side glance. She insisted to him this morning she was fine to get to work by herself like she did any other day, what was different about today. Steve smiled, not taking his eyes off the road as he replied to his daughter.
"I know but it's not often we get to spend time together and besides it's on my way to work anyway, I might as well drop you off" Violet couldn't help the little smile on her face as she stared out the window, watching Washington DC pass her by. It was nice of her dad to think of her and give her a lift and she did have to admit it was easier on her. At least she didn't have to pay for parking today, the hospital's prices weren't cheap, and the employees certainly didn't get any discount.
"That's because we're always working" she replied softly. With her busy shifts of being a nurse at the Washington DC general hospital and her parents busy work life, sometimes they didn't each other for days. It's not common for your dad to be a super solider and your mother to be a spy and assassin and for both to be working for S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Perhaps we'll take a vacation then, the three of us" Steve suggested, and Violet glanced over, surprise written on her face.
"Really… we haven't been on vacation in ages" it had been a while since the family had been away. The last time was when Violet was fourteen, they took a trip to Spain. It was nice to finally get some family time in where her parents weren't talking about work or stressing about missions and taking threats down. After that, they hadn't been away since her parents were so busy and as Violet was getting older, she was focused on completing her degree in nursing and starting her new job. But the idea of a vacation now sounded like a pleasure to Violet.
"Sure, I'll take to your mother, and we'll book somewhere. It's time we had some time off".
"Will they let you?".
"There's a thousand agents in that building, I'm sure they will survive without two of them" Steve smirked.
"Two of their best ones" Violet tilted her head to her dad, and he laughed softly.
Violet didn't want to get her hopes up just yet. It was probably easy for anyone to take time off work for a vacation, but her dad was Captain America. She was certain his boss Nick Fury wasn't going to be too happy with her dad wanting some time away and she didn't want what happened on previous vacations where they had to end early because S.H.I.E.L.D. needed them for a mission. At the time she was upset but as she grew older, she understood who her parents were and what they did for this country. They were important people and if S.H.I.E.L.D. needed them, then the matter was important as well.
Steve pulled up to the outside of the hospital, breaking smoothly. The hospital car park was surprisingly quiet for the morning.
"I have mission tonight, so your mother and I won't be home till late most likely" he said, and Violet nodded. She was used to this now. Depending on her shifts, it was often Violet was home alone, especially when she worked the day shift and her parents had a mission that night but over the last few months, it had gotten better, seeing her parents more than she had before.
"Okay, hope everything is okay" Violet wasn't one to ask the details and even if she did, her dad wouldn't tell her or couldn't tell her. That information was classified, and she'd most likely not understand it either but that didn't stop her from checking on her parents and making sure whatever it is they were fighting for wasn't going to put her in harms way.
"It's fine, nothing to worry about, just another simple takedown that's all" her dad shrugged as if what he was going to do tonight was a walk in the park… well it mostly certainly was for him. Violet smiled, gathered her bag before leaning over and kissing her dad's cheek.
"Thanks for the ride dad, be careful" she said as she slipped out the car, giving a short wave to her dad. She said it every time he went on a mission. The last person she wanted to see at her work was her mother or father wounded.
"I will" he yelled back as Violet trotted up the stairs of the hospital and then heard the roar of the car echo.
"Morning Vi, I didn't see your car this morning" Riley, her best friend and fellow nurse greeted as she entered the nurse's station where they picked up their day list of patients for today.
"Hey Ri, yeah my dad took me this morning".
"Oooo, Captain America driving his daughter in his whip, was he wearing his suit" Riley teased, and Violet laughed, scoffing, and shaking her head at her friend.
"No Riley he wasn't, he was driving me to work not fighting criminals" Riley laughed along with her as they walked down the never-ending hallway of the hospital.
"That's not like him to drive you to work though".
"I know, I insisted I didn't need a ride but it's on his way to work anyway, he's going on a mission tonight, I don't know if it has anything to do with that" Violet said with worry in her tone as they walked on. Of course, everyone knew Steve Rogers was her father better known as Captain America, but Riley was the only one Violet would tell anything about her dad or mom and S.H.I.E.L.D. She defiantly didn't want to get her parents into trouble by telling everyone what missions they were going on or what was happening at S.H.I.E.L.D. but she had to tell someone. Keeping things bottled up inside her wasn't good for her and Riley was her best friend, the one person she trusted the most.
"What mission are they going on?" Riley said quietly as they started to pass people in the hallway.
"I don't know, he didn't say. He said it was an easy one though and nothing to worry about, I'm sure it's nothing" Violet said to herself, shrugging the idea away.
"Yeah, and besides, he's Captain America and your mom is Black Widow, they would never let anything happen to you" Riley smiled, and Violet relaxed. She was right, her parents would never let harm come to her.
"Your right" Violet said and riley flicked her hair over her shoulder.
"I know, I'm always right" she smirked, and Violet hummed, rolling her eyes playfully, earning a smack from her best friend.
"What's your day looking like?".
"Not too bad… lots of shots today, how about you?"
"Loads of blood tests and a few x-rays so all in all pretty chilled, I'm going to be on my own tonight, want to come over?" Violet asked as they reached their rooms which happened to be opposite each other.
"I can't, Jacob is taking me out tonight, he has some making up to do" Riley sighed but a devilish grin appeared on her face and Violet knotted her brows together.
"What's he done now?" she asked.
"What hasn't he done, I'll tell you at lunch" Riley winked, and Violet nodded.
Violet sat at her desk, writing up her notes for her patients she had seen today. If there was one thing she hated about this job, it was the constant paperwork and updating of records. Yes, it was an important part but so boring. Her fingers were turning sore from all the typing she had been doing and her eyes had been glued to the screen for so long her sight was starting to blur, her neck cramping and her head starting to ache along with it.
Luckily for her, her phone ringing brought her out of her robot-like state, and she was able to take a break. It was her mother calling.
"Hello" she answered sweetly.
"Hey baby, it's me" Natasha answered.
"Hey mom, everything okay" she said with a little panic in her voice.
"Yeah, everything's fine, I was calling to tell you your father and I are going to be out tonight".
"I know, he told me this morning" Violet twiddled the pen between her fingers, spinning it around effortlessly, all those years of lectures had taught her how to do it.
"Wow, he actually remembered, I'll have to give him a reward for that" Violet gagged and cringed at her mother's words but laughed afterwards. Her mother's wit and comedic comebacks were what she loved the most about her and of course her strong will and fight in her.
"You going to be okay on your own?" Natasha asked.
"Yes, I'll be fine mom, I've been on my own before" she said with a groan.
"I know, just checking, hopefully we won't be too late but if something happens, I'll let you know".
"Okay, hope everything is okay?" again Violet spoke with a worried tone.
"It's fine darling, nothing to worry about, this will be a piece of cake and I don't suspect we'll be too long"Violet smiled to herself. There was no argument when it came to her mother's ability and sense in how easy a mission was going to be. The two of them were the best agents out there and together they were the ultimate team. They hadn't lost a single one so far and they defiantly didn't plan on doing so. Her mother wouldn't live it down and neither would her father.
"Okay well be careful" Violet said softly.
"You don't need to worry about me, your father maybe" Violet giggled, and Natasha chuckled softly.
"Okay well I better go mom; I'll see you in the morning then?".
"I love you, bye"
"Bye mom" Violet hung up her phone and took a deep sigh. She knew she needn't worry but she couldn't help this feeling in the back of her head. She was sure it was nothing and had complete faith in her parents. Perhaps an order of her favourite takeout and a good movie tonight would take her mind of everything.
Hey so I hope you like the first chapter, would love if you could leave a review and let me know what you think of the story
