Violet woke the next morning, a pain in her head pounding at the front. She groaned and rubbed her head, hoping to vanish the agony she was in, but it didn't work. She wondered what brought it on, perhaps too much worrying last night at her parent's sudden departure. Violet turned onto her side, reaching for her phone to check for any updates from her mom or dad but her screen was empty. She was praying they were okay. They said they would be back today so if she didn't hear from them or they didn't arrive later, she'd know something was up.

She couldn't help thinking about it all last night and was surprised she got any sleep. What was going on with S.H.I.E.L.D? First the mission her mother was assigned, then Fury's death and now this. Violet had never worried about her parents and their job. Everyone looked to them as hero's and had no doubt they'd succeed in whatever threat was wreaking havoc on this world. But this time, she was scared.

Her parents weren't telling her much and being involved in Nick Fury's death had jogged her that she didn't want to go to work today. But if she stayed home, she'd lounge around moping about it and instead needed some distraction. Violet grabbed her phone and sent her mother a quick message asking if everything was okay. Normally she wouldn't bat an eyelid at this sort of thing but when her mother told her to lie to anyone who asked where her parents were, it only set her on edge more, now realising that even S.H.I.E.L.D had no idea about this secret mission of theirs.

She waited a few minutes for a reply but after receiving nothing she decided to leave it and not think about it and instead get ready for work.

Her drive to work wasn't much pleasant and she dragged herself inside the hospital, eyes cast down and trying to keep the look of worry and stress of her face. Riley would straight away know something was up, so she tried to avoid her at all costs. For a few hours, all Violet wanted was to not think about everything that had happened and get on with her day, doing the job she worked hard for and enjoyed. As she walked down the hallway, she spotted a few S.H.I.E.L.D agents here and there, most likely for Fury and investigating what happened. She avoided them as well, not wanting to get into the conversation and also not to attract attention to herself for her parents sake. The last thing she needed was someone asking where they were.

She greeted Susie the receptionist and grabbed her day list, looking over her patient list and noticed she was very empty today. It wasn't like her day to be chilled; she was usually fully booked with patients to look after and see. But nonetheless she carried on and thought nothing of it. There was plenty to do and she could always help the other nurses around the hospital with their day.

Unfortunately for Violet, the pain in her head didn't seem to go away and she spent the morning feeling lightheaded and dizzy. It was definitely the stress getting to her and she found it hard to concentrate, the pain almost as if someone was bashing her in the head with a hammer. Even the tablets she took didn't seem to help and she was almost to the point where she wanted to stick a cannula in her arm and pump herself full of morphine to take the pain away.

As it reached lunch time, her head had finally settled and she dropped herself in the chair at the lunch table, sighing heavily and shutting her eyes, her body relaxing in the chair.

"Hey baby" the voice of her best friend filled her ears behind her, and she felt hands on her shoulders, squeezing hard and Violet jumped as it tickled. She giggled and shoved her friend off her, giving a playful glare to her.

"Hey girl, you just got in?" she asked, and Riley nodded, flinging her bag on the table, and sitting beside her.

"Yeah, I have the later shift today… you, okay?" Riley asked, narrowing her eyes and Violet faked a smile, nodding.

"Yeah, I'm good, well I've got a really bad headache but besides that I'm better" she lied. She wasn't feeling better and all she wanted was to crawl back into bed and forgot all of this. She wanted to drift off to sleep and wake up, hoping this had all been a dream.

"Well good thing you're going home" Riley shrugged, and Violet furrowed her brows.

"What?".

"Well, your afternoon's been cancelled, I saw on the system you're completely empty" Riley said, and Violet blinked in confusion.

"Oh…" she hadn't asked for her day to be cancelled and in fact hadn't even mention she wasn't feeling well to anyone, not even her supervisor.

"You should go home, get some rest. I know you said you're feeling better, but I know you, your my best friend. You just need some me time to yourself" Riley smiled, and Violet nodded.

"Yeah, you're right, and yeah I did cancel my afternoon" Violet lied again, brushing off the fact she didn't even know her afternoon was cancelled. She made a mental note to ask Susie what was going on, but she was glad she could end early today. Hopefully her parents would be home by now and they could update her on what was happening, so she didn't have to stress anymore.

Violet walked to the desk and smiled at Susie, catching her attention.

"Hey, has my afternoon been cancelled?" she asked, and Susie nodded.

"Yes, Dr Harrow said it was best considering what happened yesterday he thought you should take some time off" she said sweetly, and Violet nodded slowly. Dr Harrow was her supervisor and in charge of her the general of the hospital. It was kind of him to consider her and what she had been through, but something didn't seem right. How could all off a sudden her day be cancelled, and Dr Harrow not even tell her himself. instead of pondering on it, Violet said goodbye to Susie and made her way to her car. The sooner she got home, the quicker she could fall into bed and drift off to a land of no worries.

Violet entered the house, dragging herself inside, throwing her bag on the floor. she decided to lock the door, placing the chain on, and locking the handle to keep her less paranoid about anyone coming in. Anyone could be looking for her parents and most likely they would end up searching here. She entered the kitchen to get a drink from the fridge. There was no sign of her parents, and she checked her phone again, but there was no answer from her mother. She was getting worried and suddenly the pain in her head came on again, causing her to wince and hiss as the pain was becoming agony for her. it was like she was being electrocuted in her head.

She grabbed the juice from the fridge and poured a large glass, gulping down the sweet juice and sucking in a deep breath. Silence filled the house and suddenly she heard a creak, as if someone was creeping in the house. Her heart started to beat fast, pounding against her chest and she could hear it thudding in her own ears. Violet gulped, swallowing a hard lump forming in the back of her throat. Was there someone here? Had someone come for her parents?

Violet looked over her shoulder slowly and saw nothing. She carefully creeped out of the kitchen; her sock covered feet padding gently on the floorboards, so she didn't make them squeak. She stayed behind the kitchen wall, breathing softly and she closed her eyes for a second, psyching her up for whoever could be around the corner. She wished she had the gun on her, but she left it in her bedroom.

She stepped behind the kitchen wall and looked down the hallway, seeing it empty and only the stairs in front of her. She took one step forward before jumping in pure fright as Wilson, screaming as their family cat jumped from one of the cupboards in the hallway and ran down the hall.

"Shit" Violet whispered to herself, placing a hand on her beating heart to calm herself down. It was only the cat. She knew she was becoming paranoid now having just been scared shitless by her own cat. He was a naughty little thing, but she loved him. She sighed, shaking her head to herself.

'There's nothing to worry about, you're just paranoid' she thought to herself and turned back around to head back to the kitchen. Only she was stopped once again.

Across the hall, standing tall and menacing was a man. He was easily six feet. His eyes were locked straight onto hers, staring deeply and darkly at her. A black mask covered the bottom half of his face. His brown hair was long, reaching just above his shoulder and his brows were knitted together as he kept his eyes focused on Violet.

He was dressed in some sort of tactical gear, leather adorning his chest and black pants with boots. Attached to his gear were several guns and pockets, a harness wrapped around his chest holding a gun to his back and something else that she couldn't make out. But what really spoke to Violet was his arm. Metal from shoulder to fingers, shining brightly under the warm lights of the house, the metal glinting as the light touched it and a red star etched on the shoulder.

Violet was frozen. She felt her legs start to wobble like jelly, her fingers twitching and her stomach turning over itself as a sickening feeling was in the pit of her stomach. Her eyes didn't leave his and she felt entranced by him, caught under a spell, bound in place just by the hard look he was giving her. The way he was stood, he wasn't a man, he was a soldier.

He took a step forward, his boot stomping on the floorboard and slowly started to walk towards Violet. In one hand was a gun and Violet felt a ball of sick reach the top of her throat which she had to swallow. Violet shuddered; she had no way of defending herself. Her gun was all the way upstairs and she certainly didn't have any time to run up and get it with the soldier walking, well more like stalking towards her.

As the soldier was a few feet away from her, Violet rushed to look for something to use against him, her eyes spotting a vase on one of the cupboards and she dashed for it, hands scrambling to grab it but before she could use it to her advantage, a strong hand slapped her away, sending her to the ground, the wind being knocked out of her.

Violet gagged, coughing as her cheek stung, the flesh instantly turning red, and she struggled to breath. Heavy footsteps came towards her, and she looked up with fearful eyes as the solider stood above her. He reached behind him, pulling out a pair of strong metal cuffs from the harness which made Violet realise he was intending to take her. He wasn't here to kill her but rather kidnap her. But for who?

With her fight respond kicked in, Violet reached up with her foot and kicked his knee, sending him to the floor and heard a grunt come from behind the mask. Violet scrambled to run, slipping on the floor as her socks lost all grip and she jumped around the soldier, making a beeline for the front door but she wasn't quick enough.

The shiny metal hand grabbed her waist, slinging her into the wall with so much force it broke the dry wall, pieces cracking and flaking off to the ground. Violet groaned in pain as her back hit the wall and suddenly he was in front of her, eyes glaring, and eyebrows furrowed hard. His metal hand grabbed her neck, tightening his grip and pushed her against the wall, keeping her in place. Violet gagged and gasped for air, her hands gripping his strong wrist, but she was puny against his weight and hold. His fingers tightened and gripped the skin of her neck. His hand was cold and made her shiver.

Violet brought her leg up, kicking him between the legs which caused him to groan loudly and waddle back, clutching the area for a few seconds. Violet ran as quick as she could, tripping over the broken pieces of the wall and felt a hand grab her shoulder, spinning her around. Violet screamed as she slapped her hand against his face which in turn didn't do much and earned her a hard shove to the wall again. The soldier reached for his weapon, yanking out one of his guns but Violet grabbed another vase and threw the water inside at his face, soaking his hair and face. the solider grunted hard, now blinded by murky plant water and reached out with his gun, firing it in the middle of nowhere of the house, bullets destroying the floorboards and furniture.

Violet gasped to herself, taking cover behind a table, and tried to calm herself down but her adrenaline was through the roof, and she couldn't. Suddenly the table was flung to the side, breaking in an instant, legs and wood chipping off. Violet yelled in fright and pushed to run but two strong hands grabbed her legs, yanking her onto her front and dragging her backwards.

"No!" Violet yelled and kicked her foot out, kicking him in the face, earning another grunt from the solider. He lost his balance, falling back and his gun clattered across the floor. He huffed and pushed himself off the floor immediately but saw the hallway empty.

Violet gripped the gun to her chest, finger on the trigger, her breathing light but shaky and she peaked through the small crack in the door as she stood behind it. deathening silence took over the house, the only noise being the sound of his boots as they climbed the stairs, the sound frightening. Violet held back the tears threatening to release and sucked in a breath, so she didn't make any noise. She needed an opportunity to take a shot at him if she had any chance of getting out of here.

'Where the fuck are mom and dad' she thought to herself.

The solider walked down the upstairs hallway, hands gripping a large gun and his eyes wandering across each door, listening out for any noises or movements to indicate where his target was. he stood in the middle of the hallway, waiting, and watching until like music to his ears, he heard a small creak. He looked over at one of the doors and turned that way. His target was acquired, and he was ready. He reached into one of the pockets on the front of his gear, pulling out a different sort of gun, one with a vial of some sorts attached with a drug inside.

He reached the door, being as silent as a mouse before kicking it open furiously, aiming his gun inside the room but was met with nothing. His eyes narrowed hard and searched the room with his eyes, looking for his mission when suddenly a car jumped out of nowhere and he aimed his gun at it. But then the quick patter of feet behind him alerted him and he spun around within a second, gun aimed as Violet sprinted for the stairs.

The solider stormed out, running down as Violet jumped the last few steps and rushed for the door. A great big shot rang out in the house, exploding the wooden cupboard just next to Violet, blowing it up into smithereens and Violet gasped, ducking her head, and crying out. Wood chips flung out across the hallway and Violet looked behind her, the solider storming towards her. He wasn't backing down from this and he was stronger than anything. His metal arm clenched as he brought it down, punching the floor just as Violet moved out the way, breaking the wooden floorboard and when he yanked it out, wood chips flew everywhere.

Violet whimpered, kicking herself away from the deadly solider who wasn't giving up. Her gun rested in her waist band of her jeans, and she grabbed it, pointing it straight at him, her hand shaking all over the place and without realising, her finger pressed the trigger, a bullet flying out and pinging off his metal arm.

'Fuck!' she thought. Before she had time to react, the solider reached for her throat once again, wrapping his fingers around tightly and pulled her from the ground, holding her up off the floor, her legs dangling like a rag doll. Violet gasped for air, gripping onto his wrist and he brought her face towards him, so they were only a few inches apart. His cold blue eyes stared at her menacingly and she could feel the air supply being cut off from her lungs.

But with all her strength left in her, she lifted her hand with the gun and smacked it on the side of his head, distracting him for a minute. He loosened his grip on her throat and it gave Violet the chance to shove herself away from him, kicking his crotch once more and he fell in agony.

Violet dashed for the door, hands fumbling with the locks as she didn't have lots of time. Panic was rushing through her body, short gasps escaping her and wide fearful eyes. She struggled with the chain, yanking it off the lock and moved to the handle, the keys rattling to open the door. Finally, success as the lock clicked open and she wasted no time in yanking it open. The fresh air and sunny outside greeted her as she moved to run out but the solider had recovered from her little defence move.

The door slammed shut again, the metal hand pressed firmly against the door, blocking her off from the outside world and strong arms wrapped around her body, pulling her close to his own as he dragged her away from the door. Violet screamed for help, kicking her legs out like a toddler having a tantrum. She fought as best she could, trying to slip from his arms only she was beaten.

"Ahhh" Violet gasped, her eyes widening so big as a sharp prick hit her neck, a trigger clicked as it was pulled to insert the vial of drugs attached to the gun. In a matter of seconds, Violet became very sleepy, and her eyes could barely stay open. Her body relaxed and she had no strength to fight or to stay awake and so her eyes slid closed, falling into the arms of the solider behind her, knowing she was beaten.
