Hank had gone home after a long day of work, he was physically and mentally drained and exhausted. After watching a suspect with what seemed like no other way out blowing his brains out in front of him, the warm wet sticky red blood splattering onto his face. That was something that you'd never forget. The echo was the gunshot still ringing and playing in his ears, his head.

He walked inside, the house was quiet he figured his daughter was asleep. He dropped his keys on the table in front of a group of pictures. The older man had been blocking everything out, without looking he sensed someone was in the house that wasn't his daughter.

He went and poured himself a drink. "You can't be here. You also gotta stop showing up like this" He glanced to see his CI, Anna sitting at the table.

"He did his runs"

"I don't care, it's not enough. We don't meet like this anymore"

The last thing Hank needed was to find out that his daughter found his informant in their home and he wasn't going to put his daughter in any kind of danger. The job was dangerous enough.

"Ok. Ok I won't again" She sighed. "What happened to Adrian?"

"He killed himself"

After hearing that Anna froze, she couldn't hear what else Hank was saying. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she rubbed her hand against her forehead. "Ok so what now?"

"We use it" He walked over handing her the cup of liquor. "Escano's gonna need a new runner"

"Right ok so we go for him so the dead kid can take his spot" Her voice had been getting full of anger and irritation.

"What would you rather we do Anna?"

"Look I will do all this, I will get closer and you know that but I just…you gotta give me something, anything. It's just I don't know jack about you or Escano. But you both know everything about me, he's got a sheet on me and my kid. You got a whole damn board on me. You both are just using me like a lamb to slaughter. It's fine, I'm willing to trust you..I just"

Hank sat down glancing at her. "What do you want?"

"You got no idea. I don't know. I don't know why I mean so much"

"I don't have much to give"

"Of course you do, I mean what the hell is up with this big empty house? Those pictures, you're family-"

"They're gone. All but one"

The young informant looked stunned. "You told me you have a son"

"He's dead. They're all gone, Anna. All I have left is my daughter, Jordan. She and this job, they're all I have left. It's all I have."

"Why didn't you mention her before?"

"Same reason you don't mention your son, I have to protect her. I don't mix my personal life with my work"

"You're a good father"

"You're a good mother"

The young informant had left the house. Hank stayed sitting in the chair drinking his bourbon. He was lost in his thoughts and hadn't heard his daughter coming down. Jordan had heard voices and then the door shut. She went down wearing one of her brother's shirts and some pajama pants, her brown hair was fuzzy and sticking up everywhere. The tired teen took a hand running it through her hair, smoothing it back down.

"Dad, what's wrong? Are you ok?" Jordan asked, her voice full of sleep.

Hearing his daughter's voice he smiled and looked up with a soft smile. "I'm fine sweetheart, why don't you go back to bed"

"Are you sure you're ok dad?"

The older man smiled and got up to hug her close. "I'm perfectly fine honey"

Jordan wrapped her arms around her father, Hank held his daughter close and kissed her head. Everyone he has ever loved and cared for is gone. All of them. From his first wife to Alvin. All he had left was his daughter and he was going to make damn sure nothing was going to happen to her. Come hell or high water he was going to protect her at all cost.
