Lydia Rose Granger knows many things. She knows she is the spitting image of her mother, Hermione Granger, with her tan skin and bushy curls that she can never seem to get under control. She knows her grandparents will buy the "real" sweets for her when she comes to visit every Sunday instead of the sugar-free version, even though they are dentists and never let her mum eat it growing up, or at least that's what her mum says. She knows her Uncle Harry and Uncle Ron aren't actually related to her but that it doesn't matter because they write the best letters and tell the best stories about her mum when they come to visit (Honestly, was her mother ever going to tell her about the time she set a professor on fire or the time she helped smuggle a baby dragon out of Hogwarts in the middle of the night?).

She knows she is a witch and a very good one, even if she prefers divination over ancient runes, much to her mother's dismay. She knows she can recommend the perfect book to anyone that walks in her mother's bookstore, The Turn of a Page. She knows the author, trope, and location of every romance book in the store and has probably read most of them. She knows she is practically living her own romance, thanks to her fiancé, Dominick.

Lydia Rose Granger knows many things. Just not who her father is.

Growing up, it never really mattered. She had her mum, who taught her to read and how to do magic. She had her nan and her pop, who lived down the road and watched her while Hermione worked when she was really little and always came over for Sunday dinner. Her nan gave the best hugs and always had a cup of tea and biscuits ready for when Lydia came to visit. Her pop taught her to ride a bike and how to drive. Her Uncle Harry spent every summer with them, and taught her all about quidditch and how to fly a broom. Her Aunt Ginny gave the best advice when it came to boys and taught her how to do her make-up properly. Later her family grew to include their children, Jamie, Al, and Lily, who were basically her younger siblings. Uncle Ron always had the best jokes, probably a result of living with his brother George and taught her how to cook every time he came to visit.

But as she got older, she became curious. It wasn't so much that she wanted a dad. She just wanted the knowledge of who he was. She was her mother's daughter after all, and not knowing something was aggravating. When she was thirteen, she finally asked her mother about her father.

They were at the bookstore putting away a new shipment of books. Hermione was telling stories about her childhood and before she had Lydia; school adventures with Ron and Harry, holidays with the Weasleys, and summers with her family. She was in such a good mood that Lydia decided to ask.

"Mum, can you tell me the story of how you met my dad?"

Hermione froze, the book she was unloading forgotten. She slowly turned to face Lydia. "Um, my relationship with your father was a really long time ago. It was a short romance and he disappeared well before I realized I was pregnant with you."

"He just left?" Lydia questioned indignantly.

"We weren't meant to be together then. But he gave me you and that's all that matters". Hermione said, brushing a stray curl off Lydia's face with a small smile, before changing the topic and asking about the latest romance Lydia was reading.

Lydia knew that was all the information she would be able to get out of her mum. Hermione was one of the most stubborn people alive.

But so was her daughter, and Lydia wasn't a thirteen year old anymore. She was twenty and about to be married. That answer was no longer enough. She wanted that last mystery of her identity solved. She wanted her dad to be present at her wedding. And most importantly, she wanted her mom to be happy. And if the way Hermione froze when Lydia's father was mentioned was any indication, he could play a part in that. Or at the very least, he could possibly offer Hermione some closure and she would finally agree to go out with one of the many men who stopped by the bookstore, offering to take her out for coffee, instead of responding by simply pointing to the coffee maker she kept behind the check-out counter and then returning back to reading her latest novel.

The problem, however, was that Lydia had no idea how to find information about her father. She couldn't ask her uncles because they would tell her mother, and she doubted they would tell her even if they knew. She tried asking her grandparents but the only thing they gave her was that he was from out of the country, quickly followed by a warning to not bring it up with her mother.

But one day, while looking through the attic for old baby photos of herself for the wedding, she found it. The missing clue she needed: Hermione's old diary. It was a small pink book with pastel flowers decorating the cover. At first glance, it seemed inconspicuous, and Lydia almost tossed it aside, thinking it more likely to be something Aunt Ginny would use than her practical mother. But Lydia felt something in her gut prompting her to look again. It was with that second glance that Lydia knew this small book would be the answer to all her questions.

Now if it were any other time, Lydia wouldn't even consider invading her mum's privacy like this but desperate times call for desperate measures. So without a second thought, Lydia found an old chair hiding in the corner of the attic, and after moving the few boxes laid on it, started to read.

September 1st, 1998

It seems fitting that on the day I would usually be setting off to Hogwarts, I instead embark on a different type of adventure. The reconstruction of Hogwarts is finally at a spot where the school could be reopened to students, and McGonagall offered me a spot to return, as well as the Head Girl position, but I just can't imagine going back so soon after everything that has happened. Going to school at Hogwarts feels like something from a previous life. Too much happened in the last year for me to go back to the normalcy and simplicity of school. Well, as normal and simple as Hogwarts could be when being friends with Harry.

Instead, I've decided to go to Australia to find my parents and return their memories. I hope that I can just reverse the spell but I'll need to find an alternate option if that doesn't work. Harry and Ron both offered to go with me and help but they already have so much going on in their lives and have finally gotten a sense of normal that I couldn't ask that of them.

Since the battle, Ron has moved in with George and is attempting to bring him back from the shell he became after Fred's death. He thinks the first step is making him eat more, put some weight back on him. Although I am not surprised food is Ron's first focus, I also think it's the right decision. Unfortunately for George, Ron's cooking skills haven't exactly improved during our time on the run. So I found some cookbooks to lend him so he could learn some recipes. He has actually gotten fairly good at it in the last month and has finally gotten George looking less skeletal and more like his old self. Ron said he's hoping to get George back working at the shop by Christmas. He believes it'll be good for George to have something to do and also be a way to continue honoring Fred's memory.

Harry, on the other hand, has been training within the Auror Department. Shortly after the battle, Kingsley offered him, and many of the 7th year members of Dumbledore's Army, a spot. Kingsley claimed that the last year was more qualification than any NEWT score. So Harry agreed to the spot, claiming it's been his dream since 5th year. However, I know him better than that. Harry has spent so many years fighting that he doesn't know what else to do, and even after everything he's already done, he still feels responsible for rounding up the last of the death eaters. He'll continue to fight until he feels he's done enough to make up for what everyone suffered in the last year. Hopefully, he realizes this soon and can figure out what he really wants out of life.

And that just leaves me, waiting on a boat to Australia, on my way to hunt down my parents and fix everything. Hopefully…
