Lydia stood at the pier, eagerly scanning the docking boat for a shocking head of neon blue hair. All of a sudden she saw him. Teddy Lupin. Her best friend since before she could walk. She began jumping up and down, arms waving frantically. She could tell the exact moment he spotted her while disembarking. His face split into a crooked grin that covered his entire face and the tips of his hair briefly changed to a sunny yellow before fading back to his signature color. He broke out into a run, racing toward her before enveloping her in a giant bear hug that had her feet lifting off the ground.

"Lyds! I've missed you so much! And look at that, you still haven't learned how to tame those curls since the last time I saw you," Teddy teased as he sat her back on the ground and tugged one of her unruly curls out of the bun she had haphazardly thrown it into that morning.

Lydia flicked his hand away with a laugh before linking his arm with hers as they began walking down the pier. "You prat! I've missed you too though."

Teddy flashed a smile at her before asking, "Now tell me what's been going on with you? You seemed off when I floo-called you last week."

Lydia stopped walking, a look of apprehension on her face. "Teddy, I have a secret and you're the only one I can tell."

Teddy quickly spun around to face her, eyes scanning her face for clues. "Lydia, are you pregnant? Because I swear to Merlin, if Dominick knocked you up, I will have no other choice but to hex him."

"Okay, first off you'll do no such thing. We're all adults, and I'm going to be married in a week anyway -",

"That's not a no…"

"Secondly, I am not pregnant!" Lydia said indignantly.

"You sure? Because I remember when Ginny was pregnant, and she was always snippy. Kind of like you are now…" Teddy broke into a run, head thrown back in a laugh, as he attempted to dodge Lydia's swatting hands.

"Theodore Remus Lupin! You take that back!"

Lydia attempted to hold in her laughter and glare at Teddy, but one look at his grinning face caused her to lose all composure. She chased after him, laughing all the while, as they got closer and closer to the side of the pier. She finally caught him and with one good shove, Teddy toppled over into the water with a splash, grabbing Lydia's arm on the way down and dragging her in with him. The two swam up to the surface of the water, sputtering and laughing.

Lydia and Teddy eventually clambered out of the water, splashing and shoving each other the entire time. They then walked far enough out of sight that Lydia could perform a quick drying spell before apparating them to her bedroom.

"So now that we've established there isn't a mini-Lydia or a mini-Dom on the way, what were you gonna tell me before I was so rudely shoved in the water for absolutely no reason?" Teddy asked as he plopped down on her bed, grabbing one of her many fluffy pillows and shoving it under his head.

"Seriously, no reason? Yeah right. But if you must know, I invited my dad to the wedding." Lydia said with an attitude of nonchalance that had taken a week of practicing in the mirror every night to perfect.

Teddy sat straight up, eyes wide in astonishment. "You did what? You found out who your dad is?"

"Well not exactly." Lydia slowly replied, fidgeting with her engagement ring.

"What does that mean?" he asked with narrowed eyes.

Lydia took a deep breath before meeting Teddy's eyes with a steady look. "It means I found my mom's diary, and there's way more to the story than she claimed."

He rolled his eyes. "Lydia, pretty sure your mom is supposed to be reading your diary. Not the other way around."

"But this is the only way I was going to get any information from her. And it's dated from the year before she had me so I know this had the clues I needed."

Teddy sighed in resignation. "Ok, so what exactly did you find in this diary?"

"Here, I'll show you," Lydia said as she retrieved the diary from underneath the mattress.

Teddy snorted. "Wow, Lyds. Real creative hiding spot you got there. No one would ever think to look there," he quipped sarcastically as Lydia plopped down on the bed next to him.

"Oh, shut up and listen to this…

December 17, 1998

What a night. Draco and I once again spent most of the day researching a cure for my parent's memory. Then just as we began talking about giving up for the night, we found it! It was in an ancient manuscript Draco had borrowed from an old family friend. In it, we found an ingredient list and directions for a potion that should do the trick!

The directions aren't too bad, about a similar difficulty to Polyjuice Potion, which obviously I can do. The ingredient list, however, will be more challenging. Some of the ingredients are only found in certain locations, so I'll have to do some traveling. It doesn't matter though because we did it. I'll actually be able to heal my parents.

To celebrate, Draco and I went to his favorite restaurant right by the beach. After dinner, we decided to go for a walk along the water. The moon was reflecting off the water and we could still hear the music playing from the restaurant. It was a beautiful, slow song and he asked me to dance. Next thing I know his lips are on mine, we are apparating back to my apartment, and …"

"Ok first off, dot dot dot? What in Helga does that mean?"

"It's what they did in the olden days," Lydia said with a small glare at the interruption. "Anyway, mum continues, 'Draco is the one, I know he is. I've never felt this before.'"

"Wait, Draco? As in Draco Malfoy?" Teddy questioned.

"Yeah, his last name comes up in an earlier entry where she mentions they were next-door neighbors. Apparently, they knew each other from school but hated each other until she came here, which is why she never told anyone about their relationship…"

Lydia slowly trailed off as Teddy started laughing so hard he fell off the bed. "I tell you about my mom's secret relationship and this is how you respond. What is wrong with you?"

In between peels of laughter, Teddy managed to get out, "Lyds, this has to be the funniest crap I've heard in a while. You know who Draco Malfoy is, right?"

"I just told you! He was my mother's ex-lover." Lydia said exasperatedly, chucking one of her pillows at Teddy's head.

Teddy easily caught the pillow as he responded, "He's also my freaking cousin!"

Lydia's jaw dropped. '"What?! You're joking. You can't be serious.."

"Draco Malfoy isn't exactly a common name, Lyds. Oh my Godric. I can't believe Draco is your dad. We're related!"

"Teddy, we've been telling people we're cousins for the last fifteen years. It's not like this actually changes anything."

"Yeah, but now you can't blame all the stupid stuff I do on genetics because we share."

"First off, my mom's genes would override all stupidity. And secondly, that brings me the part of the story my mom left out. Apparently, Draco just left one night shortly after. All he left behind was a letter saying that they could never be together and he was going back to live the life he was supposed to. "

"What a bloody prat." Teddy blurted, plans of hexing Draco when he next sees him running through his head.

"I know, right? But get this…

January 4, 1999

What a night! I was still depressed about Draco when I ran into Viktor while shopping today. He's in town for a quidditch match this weekend so I offered to show him around town. Well, we spent most of the weekend together before he invited me to go watch his match. His team won, thanks to his spectacular Snitch catch. So after the game, we went out to celebrate and one thing led to another and..."

"I swear, Lydia. If you tell me your mom had a fling with international quidditch star, Viktor Krum, I'm going to lose it."

"I mean, she did go to the Yule Ball with him, but the story gets better. Listen to this…

January 15th, 1999

What a night! I spent the day hunting through the forest of Romania with Charlie trying to find the last ingredient I need. We have been searching for the last few days. I was getting frustrated but he's so sweet and funny. Eventually, I just couldn't help myself, and when we got back to the reserve…"

Teddy, who had begun tossing and catching the pillow, suddenly froze. "Lydia…you mean to tell me that the sperm donor that broke your mum's heart is either my cousin, a quidditch superstar, or the brother of your mom's best friend?"

"Well yeah."

"And they're all coming to the wedding? Do they know?"

Lydia shot him one of her signature how-are-you-such-an-idiot looks, "Of course not! What, I'm just going to write to three complete strangers, 'come to my wedding, you might be my father'? I'm not stupid. They think mum sent the invites, and after what's in here, it's no surprise, but they all said yes."

Teddy got off the floor and sat next to her once again, a serious expression on his usually jolly face as he looked her square in the eye. "Lydia, are you sure about this?"

"Teddy, have you ever known me to do anything without first thinking it through? I want to know who my dad is and would love it if he could be at my wedding and help give me away."

"It better be a wide aisle then," Teddy muttered with a snort, his previous seriousness gone. Lydia immediately elbowed him. "Ow! Keep your pointy elbows to yourself, woman!"

"You have to help me, Teddy. Mom can't know about any of this." she pleaded.

"Lyds, of course I'll help, but your mom knows everything. I don't know how long we'll be able to keep the secret."

"I just need enough time to get to know them all and figure out which one is my dad. I can't have her scaring them off before then. With any luck, I'll know my dad as soon as I see him."

"Ok. Let's do this then."

Lydia threw her arms around him, "You're the best, Teddy. I don't know what I would do without you."

"Obviously, you would get caught by your mom." Teddy said with a laugh as he returned the hug before standing up and offering a hand. "Now come on, I'm a growing boy and desperately in need of one of those nice cookies your mom always has."
