Monika emerges on the other side of the link. She stands in an open field in the middle of the night. Rain descends down from the darkened clouds.
"The experimentation facility's a good ways away. There are zombies everywhere. If we're going to survive this, we need to work together. Open the menu with the triangle button."
You comply. Monika's stats and a list of options appear. She instructs you to select equipment.
"I only have a rusty sword for now. I'm sure we'll find more stuff to help us along the way."
You equip her with the weapon.
"Our greatest asset in this game is under the systems command. Select programming and I'll teach you how to use coding effects."
You oblige. A console window appears on-screen.
"Coding effects allow you to manipulate the game in a variety of ways. As we progress, you can create weapons, new skills, and power up items, and that barely scratches the surface. Let's try a costume command. Enter Change_Costume_BattleGear."
You enter the code. Monika's clothes change to a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes.
"Now enter a random battle."
You close the menu and run around until a fight starts. You're presented with standard battle fare: attack, skills, guard, etc. You finish the zombies off with normal attacks.
"Grinding isn't necessary to beat the game, but if you want the most out of the experience, it's highly recommended. I don't just want to stop the experiments. I want to punish the ones responsible in the harshest possible way. Please, grant me this wish. Let me atone for my sins."
You pause and minimize the game, checking a list of coding effects available at the beginning. You change the background music to metalcore and locate a save point. So far, the physics feel fluid and responsive. You save and shut off the game for the night.
