Chapter 18 Betrayal
Frode's POV
I hid behind a wall to listen in on the friar's conversation with a Niflheim solider.
"I'm telling you", the friar started. "Doctor Frode helps the Starry Knight! His wife told me that he often treats the Starry Knights wounds!"
I couldn't believe what my ears heard
"The person who ratted me out to the empire…was the friar?"
As much as I didn't want to believe this, when I thought about, it made complete sense.
Not long after my wife told the friar that I would often treated the Starry Knight's wounds, Niflheim guards came and arrested me.
Speaking of Niflheim guards, the one the friar was speaking to left.
That's when I decided to reveal myself and walked out from my hiding spot from behind the wall.
"Doctor Frode", the friar greeted. "I heard that you were able to get your name cleared. Thank goodness!"
When I heard this, I became angrily…and grabbed onto the friar's shirt.
"Doctor Frode", he started. "What are you doing?!"
"I just overheard you talking to a Niflheim guard", I revealed. It was you who sold me out to the empire!"
After I said this…the friar decided to drop the act…and smirked wickedly.
"It's true", he admitted. "I was one who sold you out to the empire."
"How could you", I asked. "How could you help the empire?! They are the ones who took our home from us!"
"What else was I supposed to do", the friar asked. "Dear Doctor, I am simply trying to survive. That's all."
Knowing that there was no point in doing anything more, I angrily dropped the friar to the ground before walking away.
I looked up to see the city square, and when I did…I saw something horrible.
Many men were being forced into a large cage!
I ran up into the city square before looking around.
When I did…I spotted Ignis, Gladiolus and Prompto watching what was going on.
"What's going on", I asked as I ran up to them. "Who are all those men who are being imprisoned?"
"They're all Starry Knight suspects", Gladiolus revealed.
"Does he know about this", I asked.
"No", Ignis replied. "And we won't tell him. This is obviously a trap to lure out the real Starry Knight."
"But", Prompto started. "What do we do then? What's gonna happen to all those innocent men?"
That Night
I sat on the edge of my daughters' bed and watched them sleep.
"It's getting late, dear", my wife said. "Perhaps you should get to bed too?"
"Honey", I started. "What do you think about moving out of the city?"
"Moving out of the city", my wife asked.
"I want my daughters to grow up in a place where they can be free and happy", I revealed. "Away from the empire."
"That sounds wonderful", my wife stated.
"You go onto bed honey", I said as I held onto her hand. "Don't worry. Everything will be."
