(The 2nd and 6th one is kind of important)
Catherine's first visit to London, July 29th of 1981
The wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer happened that day, the Clifford family couldn't miss it so that was the first time Catherine visited London. In her previous life, she didn't had the chance to visit a different country meaning she haven't gone to London, it was depressing actually.
"Stephen, hurry up! I'm dressing up Catherine here!" Charlotte yelled.
"Just a minute!" Stephen yelled back from the other room.
The Clifford family boards their vehicle and drove to the train station. When they got off the vehicle, Catherine saw the outside world again, "PHI- woah.. I've already went outside but not a train station. This is so awesome, and the fact that this is the 80s, even cooler!" They boarded the train and sat on the cushioned bench seat, a young couple sat across them.
"PHI- It still bothers me that we don't wear face masks. I know there isn't a pandemic or Covid-19 in this era. I just feel really out of place, considering I've always worn a face mask in my previous life." Catherine sighed.
They arrived London and boarded out the train, Charlotte realizes that it's their daughter's first time visiting London.
"Stephen, It's Kate's first time here in London!" Charlotte reminded.
"Oh really?" Stephen asks before realizing, "oh really!" His eyes widened.
The family gets in a hackney to reach St Paul's Cathedral where the wedding is taking place. When they reached their destination, royal family members starts arriving in carriages especially the Queen herself. After many minutes, a covered royal carriage arrives and Lady Diana Spencer came out wearing the biggest wedding dress— correction, the biggest wedding gown with the longest dress train that Catherine have seen.
"PHI- Now, that is a gigantic dress, the most royal, fabulous, exquisite, superb wedding dress I've seen. And that's Princess Diana? Woah.. I can't believe I'm looking at her directly, not from an old video I saw in youtube. I'm not even born yet when she died in my previous life, oh my can I avoid it?" Catherine has a lot of thoughts.
Their day in London continued after the wedding, Catherine and her parents wandered around the city of London and had a great time.
Familiar Incident, November 1st of 1981
"MASSACRE IN LONDON? 12 PEOPLE DEAD, UNIDENTIFIED LAUGHING MAN SUSPECTED!" The reporter in the television exclaimed.
Catherine was watching it from her crib which is quite far from the television, due to her low eyesight and hearing as an infant she couldn't hear and see it clearly. She could see Charlotte watch the news intensely.
"Oh my! Those poor people, a child or even a baby like Kate could be one of those victims." Catherine heard her mother say.
"PHI- Is that what the news were saying? Ugh I hate having the eyesight and the ear of a baby!" Catherine exclaimed in her mind.
"A large explosion from an unknown source killed 12 people; victims include one of the Queen's Guard known as Barden Hatt, a police officer known as Albert Boyd, a guitarist known as Grace Allen, a family of three known as Mrs. Florence and Mr. Benjamin Taylor with their 4-year old son Harold Taylor, a group of students from City of London School known as Ruby Morgan, Harriet Watson, Erin Hughes, Alexander Lewis, and Felix Robinson, and an old lady known as Barbara Quarles. The incident happened near one of the Queen's official residences in London, that explains a Queen's Guard in uniform among the victims. 50 witnesses said the explosion were caused by an unidentified tall young man with long dark hair who was hysterically laughing in a corner near the street of the happening, the man was said accused by a short plumped man he cornered for "betrayal of his best friends" but not a single name mentioned. Neither one of the witnesses and police officers knew the name of the two men, but they certainly know the suspected man killed or did something to make the short plump man disappear." The reporter explained.
This time, Catherine heard some part of the news. Catherine saw her mother covering her mouth, stating that she was clearly troubled of the news.
"PHI- Damn, I thought this new life was cupcakes and rainbows, I was wrong. A MASSACRE already happened, I hope this doesn't happen too often. I wish condolences to those poor victims, thank God we're not one of them." Catherine thought.
"12 people! That bloody cruel man!" Catherine heard her mother yell.
"PHI- I feel bad for my mother, but what really irks me is that incident. It feels really familiar, maybe because it already happened in my past life? I don't know." Catherine thought again.
The day ended with a thinking Catherine, she couldn't think of a way how that incident was familiar.
Visiting a certain professor in Cambridge University, October 13th of 1984
Professor Stephen just finished his last Saturday math class when a woman and a little girl greets him from the entrance.
"Daddy!" The girl called.
"Catherine!" Stephen recognised his daughter. "What are you two doing here?" He asked.
"Kate here has been wanting to visit you all this week, then I realised she haven't seen you teach before." The woman now said.
"All this week? How come I didn't heard her said something, I would've know by know." Stephen asked his wife.
"Ask Kate." Charlotte smiles at her.
"How?" Stephen kneeled to reach his daughter's height.
"I kept it from you." Catherine grinned, her father's eyes widened.
"Of course only from you, mummy knew." She added.
"Keeping secrets from me now?" The man rubs Catherine's head, she smiles. "But why today?" Now referring to his wife.
"Because this is your last day this week, and also your last class today, right?" Charlotte reminded.
"Okay, okay. I already packed my things, let's go now!" Stephen playfully exclaimed.
The family walked out the lecture theatre and through the halls to tour Catherine in the University.
Students saw their math professor walking with his wife and a charming little girl, probably his daughter. Some students greeted them hello, some just smiled at them, but most students walked to them, greeted them happily, and adored Catherine. Catherine may possesses the darkest hair and eyes you have ever seen, but her attitude radiates bright energy that will surely make you admire her.
Learning the bass.. guitar, August 5th of 1985
It was 12 noon on Monday, but Catherine doesn't have school. In fact, it's summer break. However, she is neither happy nor sad, she is bored. The girl tried making art and she did, a hundred times.. and it's still boring. Catherine tried playing with Evelyn, but they don't have an idea what to do. She also tried playing with her neighbours, but they're teenagers with different likes and the kids her age are annoying boys who wouldn't want to play with a girl.
Catherine was walking around the house with Evelyn following behind, she entered the music room that was never used; when Evelyn flicked the switch of the main lighting of the room, they both gasped.
"I've never been here before.." Evelyn remarked, astonished at the wide dusty room.
"How come they didn't tell me about this?" Catherine slid her right hand against the side of the grand piano, "there's literally a GRAND PIANO placed here only to be left unused!"
Evelyn didn't hear a single word that Catherine have said, she's too busy looking at the acoustic guitar sitting on a really exquisite stand. The little girl noticed her, "Do you play?"
The young woman was stunned at the girl's question, "Oh, I- a little bit.." Catherine grinned at her. "Can you please play me a song? Considering the correctly placed acoustic boards or sound absorption panels or however you call these—" she points at the said objects disguised as normal walls, "your sound will have good quality."
Evelyn smiled at the girl's knowledge on sound panels. She's also opened the long thick curtains to reveal very tall set of windows, it lit up the room so much the lights became quite useless.
"All right, I will play a song for you." she sat on a bench beside the guitar stand. "What song do you want me to play?" she asked while tuning the guitar.
"Hmm.. AHA! Take On Me by a-ha." Catherine replied.
"That's such a great song choice, but it's too cool to be played with an acoustic guitar." The young woman complained.
"Haven't you heard the Acoustic version from— oh no, I remembered the Acoustic version from Deadpool.. 2!" Catherine's heart was beating so fast, thinking how to improvise what she just said.
"Wait, there's no acoustic version." Catherine pretended to realise. "PHI- THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE! I almost told her about freaking Deadpool! Even the comic with Deadpool's first appearance haven't released yet, if Evelyn does read comics there's still no way she knows about Deadpool. At least I found a way to improvise, phew.."
"Well yeah." Evelyn looked confused.
"But you could still try though! Probably someone already tried to play an acoustic version, but—" the girl was cut-off.
"Why would anyone make an Acoustic version of Take On Me?" Evelyn commented.
"It's cool? Maybe to attract fans of different music genres, besides the lyrics sounds deep, making it an acoustic song could deepen the meaning and the song itself. Or maybe for people who likes quiet music, I don't know!" Catherine crossed her arms.
"You quite know a lot of stuff for your age, it's really impressive. Anyway, you're right." Evelyn started playing the intro with the tempo of the original song, it shocked Catherine.
The little girl bopped her head to the beat, "PHI- I'm expecting the soft quiet version, but this is good!"
"We're talking away,
I don't know what I'm to say!
I'll say it anyway,
Today's another day to find you,
Shying away,
I'll be coming for your love, okay?
Take on me, take on me,
Take me on, take on me,
I'll be gooonnneee,
In a day or twoooo!"
Evelyn stopped playing and smiled at the girl. "Was that good?" She asked.
"Was that good?! That was AMAZING! But why did you stopped? Catherine asked.
"It's not like I'm recording an actual song." The young woman laughed.
"Then I will record you, besides I got nothing to do and you got nothing to do apart from babysitting me; so stay here while I get my filming camera." The little girl stood up from the cushioned chair and started walking away to the exit.
"Wait! Fine, I'll continue the acoustic version." Evelyn said, the girl stopped.
"Yay! I would still record you though, and what you did wasn't acoustic, it's just the guitar version but anyway, it's still amazing." Catherine went back to her seat.
"Isn't the acoustic and guitar version the same?" Evelyn asked.
"No, an acoustic version of a song is the song without the electrical amplification." Catherine explained.
"Electrical amplification? Where did you even learn that?" The young woman was confused.
"I don't know. Anyway, the acoustic version is basically the version of a song without the editing and stuff, it's just the natural voice of the singer and the natural sound of the instrument used; acoustic versions are sometimes slower in tempo and a lot softer, they're like the same songs with different vibes. But the guitar version, it's exactly like its name. It's the exact song but only played with a guitar; so the exact melody, exact tempo, tone of the vocals, and effects of the instruments used in the actual song are copied with a guitar." The girl explained more.
"What you did is the guitar version with vocals, not the acoustic." She added.
"Woah, okay.. your knowledge is wider than mine." Evelyn complimented.
"Broader?" Catherine smirked, she just said the more complicated term of "wider" proving her wider— I mean, broader knowledge.
"Oh stop." Evelyn chuckled.
"So how?" She added.
"How what?"
"The song?"
"What song?"
"The acoustic cover."
"Oh that."
Catherine explained how the acoustic version of the song goes while Evelyn played the guitar following her instructions.
"Don't start with the 'we're' in the first line, just sing 'talking away'." The girl directed.
The young woman practiced, "talking away.. got it."
"Okay, I'll go get the filming camera in my room." Catherine walked out the room.
Minutes later she came back with the said filming camera in her hands. "I'm here now!" She sat on the chair and started recording.
in the video*
"Kate, have it started recording?" The young woman holding a guitar in the video asked.
"Yes, you can introduce yourself now." A little girl's voice spoke behind the camera.
"Hello! My name is Evelyn Carter, I'm 15 years old and I will play the acoustic version of Take On Me by a-ha."
The video shook slightly, one hand probably removed its hold from the camera. "1- 2- 3- go!" Kate whispered as the video shook again.
Evelyn started playing the intro, acoustic way.
"Talkin' away, I don't know what I'm to say.
I'll say it anyway, today is another day to find you.
Shying away, I'll be coming for your love, okay?"
The guitarist looked at the camera and smiled, she then looked back down her guitar.
"Take on me..
Take me oonn.
I'll beee goonnee.
In a day or twoooo."
"So needless to say, I'm odds and ends,
But that's me stumbling away.
Slowly learning that life is okay.
Say after me, it's no better to be safe than sorry"
"Take on me..
Take me oonn.
I'll beee goonnee.
In a day or twoooo."
Evelyn continues the song with a short guitar solo.
"And all the things that you say, is it life or just to play.
My worries away, you're all the things I've got to remember.
You're shying away, I'll be coming for you anyway."
"Take on me..
Take me oonn.
I'll beee goonnee.
In a day or twoooo.
I'll beee goonnee.
In a day or twoooo.
In a day or two.."
Evelyn finally played the last note, she looked at the camera and gave Kate a genuine smile. They were like that for a few seconds before the girl stopped the recording.
video stops*
"Wow." Catherine started clapping at a slow pace and slowly ascended to a full applause.
Evelyn chuckled at Catherine's antics. "What will you do to that video of me?"
"I will publish it so you can be noticed because of your talent!" The girl exclaimed.
"But how? The original artist must give you a mechanical license for you to legally do that, and it costs.. money!" Evelyn excused.
"Oh don't worry! I will ask mummy and daddy for help, they will surely give me the money I need to publish your cover." Catherine cheekily smirked, proud of her own idea.
"Okay fine, I'll let ya." The young woman stood up from the stool and placed the acoustic guitar back to its stand.
Catherine hurriedly walked towards her and stood straight in front. "Do you know how to play the bass?" The girl asked.
"The bass?"
"Yes!"
"What?"
"The bass guitar!"
"Oh." Evelyn realised. "Aw, I'm sorry but I don't Kate."
"It's okay, now I know what I'm going to do for the rest of the summer." Catherine said to herself.
The two left the music room how it looked like when they entered.
Hours later the family of three, Evelyn, and the housekeepers sat on the long dining chair that was only used for situations like this. They all began to eat when Catherine spoke up, "erm.. everyone?" She shyly called for attention, it obviously didn't work because not a single person noticed her.
"Ehem.. EXCUSE ME! CAN I GET YOUR ATTENTION FOR A MINUTE PLEASE?" This time, she yelled and it finally worked because everybody stopped eating.
"Thank you, so I have a question." Catherine informed.
"What is it, dear?" Charlotte asked.
"Does anyone here knows how to play the bass?" The girl asked, everyone looked at each other confused except for Evelyn.
"A bass GUITAR." She stated to clear things up. "I should probably begin calling it bass guitar instead of only bass.."
"Oooohh." Everyone understood. Unfortunately, they all said no.
"Why did you asked, Catherine?" Her father asked.
"I want someone to teach me on how to play the bass.. guitar, so I have something to do in the summer and because I just want to learn an instrument." She explained.
"You should've told us earlier so we could apply you to a music class specifically for guitars, why tell us now during dinner?" Stephen looked closely at his daughter.
"Because I want someone I already know to tutor me, it wouldn't hurt to ask. But if there's none, not that I'm asking, because I already know there's none. Then I'll ask for a bass tutor. OH! I almost forgot, I need help for another thing." Catherine said.
"Okay then, we'll apply you to a bass tutor.. what's the other thing?" Her mother asked.
"I will explain it first, you see.. Evelyn and I were walking through the house because I was bored, when we found the music room we entered out of curiosity." Catherine explained.
"I forgot we have a music room." Charlotte whispered to her husband.
"Me too." Stephen replied.
The couple missed the part where their daughter complained to them, not telling her a single thing about the beautiful music room.
"Anyways, Evelyn surprisingly knows how to play the guitar so I asked her to play a song, she accepted and played the song, she's really great. She practiced the acoustic version of that song with a little help from me, but I wanted to record her and she accepted. I recorded her playing the acoustic guitar with my filming camera, now I want to publish it. She refused because it requires a lot of paperwork and stuff and.. money, but I insisted! Now I need your help to publish Evelyn Carter's acoustic cover of the song Take On Me by a-ha." Catherine finished.
Everyone applauded for Evelyn, she was happy and embarrassed at the same time.
For the next days, Evelyn's guitar video finally got published legally. A bass tutor visits their house to give Catherine classes in the music room.
Catherine's got a crush (part one), July 9th of 1986
It was almost time for French class, Catherine is running late from lunch break. When she reached the door to their classroom, a boy that was probably experiencing the same situation bumped into her.
She stared at the boy, "Am I having my main character moment right now?"
She snapped out of her thought and apologised, "I'm so sorry, Gavin!"
"It's okay Catherine, I'm really sorry too."
The way he reassured her that it was actually okay, made Catherine feel some type of way.
"We should take our seat." The boy named Gavin directed his open palm to the unoccupied chairs.
Right before their French teacher arrives, the two students have sat on the chairs.
"Bon après-midi, mes étudiants! That means good afternoon, my students. Now all of you say it back at me, go on." A woman said while rushing to the teacher's desk.
"Bon apri-midiy, Madame Rosalie." The whole class replied with a very English accent except for Gavin.
The woman, Madame Rosalie who's supposed to be their French teacher started teaching the class on how to correctly pronounce certain things like baguette and croissant, sorry— I meant certain breads.
Madame Rosalie or her full name, Mrs. Rosalie Martin is a French lady who grew up moving between France and England. She's originally an English teacher in France before permanently moving to England with her English husband and to become what she is now, a French teacher.
After all the afternoon classes with the last class being dismissed early, Catherine and her friends made their way to the field and sat on a bench to chat before their guardians retrieve them.
"Hey ermm.. Kate?" Olivia, a friend of Catherine asked.
"Hm?"
The girl moves closer to her ear and whispers, "do you have a crush on Gavin? I saw you stare at him a lot!"
Catherine's eyes widened, she stared at Olivia looking shocked but another girl spoke and interrupted them both.
"What are you whispering about? Why are you shocked?" The girl asked referring to both Catherine and Olivia.
"It's— it's nothing, Margaret. I—" Catherine tried to explain when Olivia cut in and told the whole truth. "I asked Kate if she have a crush on Gavin!" Catherine covered Olivia's mouth as the whole group grinned at each other.
"Gavin Monet? The French boy? Ooooohhh!!!" Lottie teased.
"It seems like you really do have a crush on Gavin, Kate." Millie smirked.
"What? No, I do not!" Catherine defended.
"Yes, you do!" Lottie teased once more.
"Do NOT!"
"Do!"
"NOT!!!"
"Then why are you so defensive about it??" Millie mischievously grinned.
Catherine sends Olivia and death glare, who mouthed "Sorry!" in return.. and fear.
"I—" Catherine's explanation was again interrupted now by Lottie, "Catherine and Gavin, seating on a tree. S-N-O–G-G–I-N—"
"Wait! Let Kate explain!" Margaret's eyebrow wrinkled and crossed her arms. She's the most mature out of all of them, even more mature than the previously 14-year old Catherine.
"Thank you, Margaret!" Catherine exclaimed.
"You're welcome!" The girl replied.
"Okay, I don't know how to explain it but after we bumped into each other, I started staring at him and Olivia here noticed." Catherine sneered at Olivia who hid her face due to fear.
"So you were staring at him?" Margaret smiled.
"Sounds like a crush to me!" Millie responded.
"CATHERINE'S GOT A CRUSH! CATHERINE'S GOT A CRUSH!" Lottie sang, she will never leave Catherine alone now.
Catherine just covered her face with both her hands out of embarrassment, but she can't deal with the fact that she might have a crush on Gavin.
Out of all their parents or guardians, Catherine's arrived first, great.
"Hello there girls! It looks like all of you have been waiting here and chatting, did the teacher dismissed too soon?" Catherine's mother asked.
"It's not 'too soon', it's just early." The girl replied.
"Yeah, and we're actually talking about Gavin." Millie looked at the wide eyed Catherine.
"Gavin, Gavin Monet? Your French classmate who's a boy? Why?" Her mother asked.
"SHE HAS A CRUSH ON HIM!" Lottie exclaimed.
Charlotte looked at her daughter and said, "oh really?" she grinned.
"Yeah! I always caught her staring at him in class." Olivia said.
"Mummy, let's go home now please!" Catherine begged while dragging her mother towards their car.
Charlotte laughed and said her goodbyes to Catherine's friends. Olivia awkwardly smiled, Margaret genuinely smiled, Millie smirked, and Lottie grinned.
The following days consists of Catherine's friends teasing her, small talks with Gavin, and school.
One day, they were given free time by their Music teacher Mr. Jenkins, but in that free time they must try and play an instrument. Obviously Catherine will play a bass, Olivia tried playing the piano, Margaret plays the harp, Millie plays the drums, Lottie tried playing the flute and clarinet because her parents wants her to learn those, and Gavin plays the saxophone.
While playing random tunes in the bass, Catherine accidentally plays the intro of Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys, she gained Gavin's attention.
"What song were you playing?" He asked.
Catherine realised what she have done, "PHI- Oh shit, I played a song that haven't even released yet! Alex Turner is still an infant in this day!" Luckily, she thought of an answer, "It's not really a song, it just played randomly."
"Woah, you're a great bassist then. I thought that was a song, you could make it a song!" Gavin requested.
"I mean, I'll try? I'm not a songwriter though, I don't know what to write for the lyrics, and I'm only 6 years old." The girl excused.
"Okay then, but make sure to inform me if you make it a song because I'd love to hear it." The boy said.
He was about to walk away when Catherine suddenly asked a question. "What made you learn to play the saxophone? You're quite good at it."
Gavin returned to the seat near Catherine and responded, "The first time I heard it play was from the saxophonist of a jazz band playing in my mum's restaurant."
"Your mum owns a restaurant?" Catherine asked surprised.
"Yeah, she's a master chef then my papa's a pastry chef, he helps with the baking. I think they're perfect for each other."
"Oh, my dad's a professor and mummy is a dermatologist."
"I already know what your mum is, she's my mum's dermatologist."
"Really? I didn't know that."
"We should meet when mum goes to your mum's clinic."
The conversation continues with them changing the topic every minute, typical kids.
"I just noticed, you are the tallest in the class but whenever I see your dad pick you up, he.."
"My papa?" He laughs, "he's really short, 170 cm"
"But how are you so tall? Is your mum tall?"
"Yeah, my mum is tall, she's 178 cm."
"Woah, she's really tall!"
"She told me that I'm like mini version of papa but she's sure that I will grow up to be not so mini to my papa."
"So you look exactly like your dad but you inherited your mum's height? That's so cool!"
More minutes have passed, the two are still talking while Olivia spies on them, Millie and Lottie thinks of a way to tease Catherine later, and Margaret trying to quiet them.
"Why do you call your dad papa?"
"Because I'm half-french, my mother is from England so I call her mum instead of maman, but my father is from France so I call him papa instead of dad."
"Cool, I just call my parents mummy and daddy but I think I'll move on to mum and dad when I grow up."
A few days later, Catherine's group of friends and Gavin's group of friends sat together on the largest table during their lunch.
Catherine brought her drawing supplies and started drawing Gavin, Margaret noticed her and nudged her.
"Hey!" Catherine realises it's Margaret. "Oh hey!"
"Is Gavin special enough to be drawn in your sketch pad?" Margaret asked 'innocently'.
"Kate is drawing her boyfriendddd." Lottie heard the conversation and teased.
"SHHHHHH!!! And he's not my boyfriend!" Catherine shushed them.
All of their friends teased them, Gavin laughed it off and continued eating his fruits. Catherine ignored them all and continued colouring Gavin's portrait.
"Dark brown hair.. hmm.. rosy tone skin.. wait— his eyes." The girl said to herself.
"Hey Gavin!" She whispered.
"What?" He whispered back.
"What colour are your eyes?"
"Ermm.. hazel, but it looks like green because of the green flecks. I'm not sure though, it's just what my mum said."
"Okay, thanks."
Catherine finally finished the coloured drawing and labelled it with Gavin's full name and signed it with her signature.
The two became really close. Sometimes, they even play with board games together in Charlotte's clinic.
Catherine's got a crush (part two), September 1st of 1987
It was Monday, they all returned for school after the summer. Catherine sat beside Margaret and Olivia who's in front of Millie and Lottie, but she also made sure to leave an open seat on her other side for Gavin.
When their new class advisor started taking attendance, Gavin wasn't called. All of them talked about him at lunch.
"Mum told me that Charles' mum told her that Charles told her that Gavin told him that he was going to visit his grandpa in France." Olivia said, her mother and Charles' mother are friends.
"Yeah that's true." Charles confirmed, he's their classmate who's a friend of Gavin.
"I know he went to Paris, he celebrated his birthday there because he left on August 20." Catherine said.
"He went to Paris?" A classmate asked.
"Yeah, it's where his father lived before moving here." Benedict answered, he's an another friend of Gavin.
"How did you know he went to Paris, Kate?" Margaret asked.
"When he and his mother went to my mum's clinic the last time before they left, he told me that his papi was begging them to visit last year so they'll visit this summer." Catherine explained.
"Maybe he moved there?" Millie guessed.
"We don't know.."
They asked their previous and current advisor if they knew about Gavin's absence. Unfortunately, they only told them about his parents resigning him from the school at August 23, the day after his birthday.
Catherine looked down when Charlotte came to pick her up. While they're in the car, the woman asked, "What's wrong, Kate?"
"Gavin transferred to a different school, he probably moved to France." Her daughter replied coldly.
"Oh.. I think I forgot to tell you something."
"What?"
"Mrs. Monet called me to cancel her appointment tomorrow."
"Why?"
"Because her father-in-law died and her husband inherited his father's Patisserie, she said he wants them to continue his business after he dies. So they stayed in France."
"Gavin's grandfather died.. I think he knows he'll die soon because Gavin told me his papi was begging them to visit him in Paris throughout last year."
"Oh well.. now we know."
"Wait, they could continue his grandpa's business without staying in France."
"How?"
"Like how Mrs. Monet's restaurant kept opened even though she doesn't stay there 24/7."
"What?"
"It means they could still live here while continuing Gavin's grandpa's Patisserie business, all they need is a trusted staff."
"Well yeah, but maybe they have a different or more than one reason why they moved suddenly. Although it doesn't matter because it's their business not ours, even if they Gavin's your friend, that situation is a lot more personal."
"You're right.."
The next day, Catherine told them what she learned about Gavin from her mother.
"What could be the other reason?"
"I don't know."
"It's probably a personal reason that's why we don't know."
"It is a personal reason, but what could it be?"
The meeting continued with them asking each other what they think is the reason, it ended with all of them accepting that Gavin will never come back in England.
In the comic book shop, December 21st of 1987
It was the first day of Christmas break, the Clifford family decided to shop at The Grafton for Christmas decorations and other more stuff.
While they were walking around the mall, Catherine noticed the comic book shop. "Mummy, can we go there." Proceeds to point at the shop.
"Yes, we can."
The three walked to the shop, they noticed the Spider-Man comics that was newly released on December 8. Stephen rushes to the stack of Superman: Man of Steel comics that was also released on December, Catherine gets closer to the stack of Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 299 comics, Charlotte followed behind her.
The girl studies the cover and thinks of something.. or someone. "Gavin would've loved this, his favourite superhero is Spider-Man." Catherine snaps out of her thoughts and turns to her mother with a comic in hand.
"Mummy, can we buy this?"
"Only one?"
"Yeah?"
"Just surprised because every time we visit this shop, you wanted to buy every Marvel comic that you haven't bought yet. You can't even read most of them due to the age rating."
"Then.. I'll buy more than this! And mummy, I buy the comics so if the time comes that I'm allowed to read it, I will immediately read it!"
"Why can't you just buy them later when that comes?"
"Because I organise it, and the older the comic, the higher it costs. Once I finished reading all the comics years later, I can keep them or sell them for a huge price to collectors."
"Whatever pleases you."
The family left the shop with Stephen buying the Superman: Man of Steel and Catherine buying all the Marvel comics she haven't bought yet including the Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 299.
