Buzzblast, the journalism of tomorrow. A place where young journalists get their start in life. Its especially nice for people who have a specific interest in journalism relating to a specific topic. In the case of Amelia Jones, paranormal investigation was her calling. She loved the paranormal, ghosts, vampires, all of it made her giddy.
The young woman away on her keyboard, currently writing about her latest alleged encounter with the forest people of Pine , the young woman's phone, buzzed, she instantly recognized the number.
''Hey Wendy, what'd my kid do this time?'' Amelia sighed.
''…''
'' Baker's going to tell me, terrific'' the young journalist rolled her eyes as she grabbed her purse and walked out the door of the building to her car.

Half an hour later, Amelia sighed as she stared at the door in front of her. Unfortunately for her this wasn't exactly the first time she'd been in front of it.
Walking into a familiar sight. The Brooke Academy principal's office. The principal himself; Andrew Baker was an elderly man, clearly showing an immense dread for his job. Amelia sat down next to a young boy, easily about 12 or 13. He had mousy brown hair that was combed back. He also wore a white t shirt, blue jeans with a small chain linked to one of the pockets, as well as black NIKEs.
'' Thank you for coming in on short notice Ms. Jones'' Andrew said.
'' No problem, Mr. Baker'' Amelia turned her attention to the boy next to her. '' What'd you do this time kiddo?''
'' Nothing'' the child protested.
Amelia turned her attention to Principal Baker. '' What'd he do?''
'' Well'' Principal Baker opened a black diary. '' Jake over here seems to have physically assaulted one of his classmates.''
'' What'd you do?'' Amelia looked at the teen.
'' Nothing Mom, honest.''
'' Uh huh? Spill it.''
Jake sighed. '' Terence, that guy who always hits on all the girls?''
'' Yes?''
'' Well, he wouldn't leave this new girl; Jess, alone. I told him to leave her alone and he shoved me hard, I fell down. He mocked me because of you and Dad so I punched him…hard.''
'' Wow, not ok'' Amelia gasped.
'' Thank you, Ms. Jones-
'' That you didn't do anything to help my kid'' Amelia interrupted.
'' Excuse me?''
'' Look, you've read Jake's file, you know what his relationship with his father's like, what he did to us. You think its ok to let some brat speak to my kid that way?''
'' He physically assaulted another child. Pine Ridge has a very strict code here, no assault of any kind.''
'' So shoving my kid doesn't count in your little fantasy land?''
'' Ms. Jones, you're out of line. Anyway, Jake over here has a 7 day suspension, during this time he is to write a letter of apology to Terence. As a journalist I'm assuming you'll check for spelling errors?''
Amelia sighed as she got up. '' Come on Jake.''
The pair left the principal's office and walked out to Amelia's car.
'' So, you aren't mad?'' Jake asked.
'' Oh no I'm furious, but not with you. With that fossil of a principal you have. The guy doesn't look like he should be able to make it through a long sentence. He's such a coward'' Amelia answered as she and Jake drove away.
'' So, do I really have to write that letter?''
'' Unfortunately yes you do. Even though you were within your rights, you did overreact a bit.''
'' Come on-
'' But I'll help you write it. Afterall, what good is having a journalist for a mom if not for free labor?''
Jake looked at his mother. '' You ok?''
'' Well besides my child being ridiculed for his sorry excuse for a father, fine. Why?''
'' I saw how you got when the old bat called you out. Mom, its been 12 years, you need to move on.''
'' Not that easy bud. Your dad and I had...chemistry.''
'' Mom, from everything you've told me, he's not worth thinking about.''
Amelia sighed. '' Look bud, I've got some shopping to do and you need to work on that letter, so I'm dropping you at home, anything you need while I'm out?''
'' Well, I could use some…reading material. You know, since you took the vacuum to my last magazine.''
'' Oh God'' Amelia laughed. '' I can't believe this is what its come to in our relationship.''

'' Hey sweetie, I'm home'' Ollie Akana said cheerily, a small child running up to him.
'' Daddy, I missed you'' said one of them.
'' I missed you too Mia'' Ollie's smile vanished as he saw a young woman with short blonde hair in front of him.
'' Hello Oliver'' she said coldly.
'' Ariella. Good to see you'' the young man said sarcastically.
'' You too. Tell me, which archaeological site are you ranting about to those college kids this time, you know, because your work always comes before Mia or myself.''
'' Are you kidding me. When we first moved here, in order to pay the rent I needed to work longer hours.''
'' And I didn't?''
Ollie looked at his young daughter. '' Mia, go to your room.''
The young girl obeyed, dashing away.
'' Now then, where were we. Oh right, you didn't do a damn thing. You just spent all of our money on male strippers and booze.''
'' I needed a vice. My husband was ignoring my needs-
'' Ignoring your needs? Ariella, you're insane. No wonder I divorced you.''
'' You acted too rashly Oliver, I was the best thing that ever happened to you.''
'' No, Mia is. You became a burden, on her and me. What kind of kid wants to be told by her teacher that at the last parent-teacher conference, her mother was drunk and then tried to sleep with the school's janitor?''
'' Whatever prude.''
Ollie cringed. '' What do you want Ariella, how did you even get in here?''
'' Your neighbor let me in. Such a nice girl, she runs you know?''
'' I'm aware. Izzy helps keep me in shape, and before you say anything, she's gay and in a relationship. Also, I can't believe I'm saying this again, what do you want?''
'' Well, I'm leaving.''
'' The city?''
'' The country. I'm seeing this Nicaraguan guy and he wants to bring me back to his family.''
'' So why're you telling me this now?''
'' Well, I figure Mia should see her mother before she leaves.''
'' Well she did, now get out.''
'' Rude'' Ariella scoffed. '' Oh by the way, Mia's out of ADHD pills, I swallowed them all.''
'' Pills again?! Gah! Why did I even marry you in the first place?'' Ollie growled as his ex wife left the apartment.
Walking into his daughter's bedroom, he saw Mia shaking.
'' Hey sweetie, what's up?'' Ollie asked, sitting next to his daughter.
'' I heard you and mommy fighting. I thought you broke up?''
'' We did. Aunt Izzy let her in, she's nice like that. Listen, did mommy tell you she's leaving the country?''
'' Uh huh, Nicker, Ag-
'' Nicaragua. Listen, mommy stole your medicine again, so I have to go get more, I'll drop you off next door and I'll see you in an hour.''

Be cool Amelia, its just a drug store. Amelia exhaled deeply before walking into her current location. With Jake officially old enough to be into girls, he had started to discover old playboy magazines from his friends' houses. However, recently she had shredded the only issue he actually owned himself. Giving her word, Amelia now had to buy him a new one, the exact one.
'' There we go'' the young woman said, picking up an issue of Penthouse. '' Not exactly how I imagined my Thursday going down.''
Meanwhile, Ollie found himself in the same drugstore, at the dispensary.
'' Finally'' the man said, relieved, as he went to pick up a repeat prescription from the closest pharmacist.
'' Hi, I'm here to pick up a repeat for Oliver Akana'' Ollie said jovially.
The pharmacist typed on her computer. '' I'm sorry sir, but your ex-wife seems to have come here earlier and taken out your final repeat. You'll have to consult your family physician for a new prescription.''
'' Dammit Ariella, only you would do something this stupid'' Ollie grumbled as he strid down the aisles of the drugstore. Marching forward, to get the activity over with as fast as possible, Amelia didn't notice the man in front of her. Nor he, her.
'' Argh! Watch where you're going dammit!'' Ollie said as he fell down.
'' Me? You need to see the optometrist next door'' Amelia refuted, rubbing her head and getting up.
'' Oh, you're…'' Ollie got up and took a look in front of him. '' Beautiful.''
'' Thanks?'' Amelia said, confused. '' Normally I don't get knocked down and then complimented.''
'' Sorry about that, I should've been more careful.''
'' Its fine'' Amelia dusted herself off. '' I'm Amelia.''
'' Oliver, but people call me Ollie for short.''
'' Nice to meet you, why were you marching by the way?''
'' My daughter needed a repeat on her ADHD meds, turns out her drug abusing alcoholic mother took out a final repeat.''
'' That's awful. Are you two together still?''
'' No. We separated a year ago but we've been divorced for a few months.''
'' Sorry to hear that, but based on what you just told me, it sounds like you did the right thing.''
'' Thanks, can I ask you something?''
'' Sure.''
'' Why do you have an issue of Penthouse on you?''
'' Oh, that's not mine. That's for my son.''
'' Internet porn too good for him?''
'' No, weirdly he prefers the actual physical copies.''
'' Old school, I respect that. Hopefully I can get to know you better some time?''
'' Are you asking me out?''
'' Only if you aren't with someone.''
'' Well, I haven't been in a relationship since my son was 2 years old.''
'' So…is that a yes?''
'' You tell me?'' Amelia winked, putting her number into Ollie's phone and walking away.
'' Wow'' Ollie gasped.
