Owen Hunt stared in disbelief as he drove towards the Forbes Montgomery family home. It was insanely big, with acres upon acres of land surrounding it. He figured the driveway alone had to be at least a mile long. His eyes widened as he got closer, the grand colonial style house was a far cry from the cosy town house he had grown up in. He pulled up to the wrought iron gates and let down the car window to press the intercom.
"Forbes Montgomery residence, how may I help?" A woman's voice came over the speaker.
"Owen Hunt, here to see The Captain."
"Come in." The woman said.
"Here we go." Owen said quietly to himself as the gates began to open.
He grabbed his bag from the trunk and made his way to the front doors where a brunette woman was stood.
"Owen, good to meet you. I'm Susan." She shook his hand.
"Likewise, are you The Captain's wife?" He asked as they entered the foyer.
"Oh no! Technically I'm his wife's assistant, but I kind of just handle things around here." She smiled.
"I see." Owen said, taking in his surroundings.
"Please, follow me." She said, leading him down the hall.
As they walked, Owen glanced up to see a young woman stood on the stair case, looking down on them. She was beautiful, with long red hair and sparkling blue eyes. She wore a black dress with a pearl necklace.
"What are you looking at?" She demanded.
"Nothing." He answered.
"Addison. Be nice." Susan scolded.
"Ugh. Whatever." Addison scoffed, flinging her flaming locks behind her as she disappeared up the stairs.
"Sorry, she can be a real brat sometimes." Susan apologised, slightly embarrassed.
"I can handle it." He assured her.
"Ah, Major Hunt. Please have a seat." The Captain motioned towards a chair as Owen entered the office.
"Please sir, call me Owen." He insisted as he took a seat.
"Alright then Owen. Scotch?" The captain grinned.
"It's only eleven a.m." Owen frowned, glancing at his wrist watch.
"Ha, it's five o'clock somewhere." The captain laughed, picking up his crystal decanter.
"So what did Colonel Matos tell you about this job?" The Captain asked.
"Not much, sir. He mentioned an old friend of his was looking for someone with military background to do some bodyguard work."
"Correct. I need a bodyguard for my daughter, Addison."
"The rude redhead?"
"Oh, so you've already met her." The Captain chuckled, shaking his head.
"Sort of." Owen nodded.
"It's all a facade, she's a good girl deep down."
"I don't doubt that, sir."
"The thing is, Major Hunt- Owen." The captain corrected himself.
"Addison needs someone whom she can't grind down. She despises the fact she needs a bodyguard. We've lost three in the last four months." The Captain sighed, sipping his scotch.
"Wow." Owen chuckled.
"She flirts with them, berates them, bullies them. Until they can't stand her anymore, which is why I need someone who won't back down."
"I can assure you I won't, sir."
"Excellent, the job is simple really. You protect Addison. Wherever she goes, you go. Got it?"
"Yes, sir."
"I don't believe you would disobey me Owen, but under no circumstances shall there be any inappropriate behaviour or fraternisation with my daughter. Are we clear?" The Captain spoke sternly.
"Crystal." Owen nodded.
"Great. Glad to hear it. If you don't mind me asking, Colonel Matos mentioned you were honourably discharged. But he didn't mention why?" The Caption asked.
Owen shifted a little in his chair, the question clearly made him uncomfortable.
"I was honourably discharged due to uh... the death of my entire platoon, sir." He said quietly, his eyes sad.
"God that's awful, I am sorry to hear that."
"Thank you, sir."
"So, your room is all ready for you up here and you'll have every other weekend off. Feel free to use all the facilities within the estate: pools, stables, gyms etcetera." Susan informed Owen as she showed him upstairs.
"Got it. Thanks." He nodded, shifting his bag on his shoulder.
"Oh and these are the keys to your new car." She said, handing him a Bentley key.
"My new car?" Owen frowned.
"The black Bentley in the garage." Susan nodded.
"Are you sure?"
"Of course. The Forbes Montgomery staff have nothing but the best." She said, proudly.
"Susan, what is he doing here?" Addison questioned as she came out of her bedroom.
"Ah, Addison. I can finally introduce you. This is Owen Hunt, your new bodyguard." Susan smiled.
Addison stared at him, he was quite handsome. He had a rugged look going on but at the same time he was still put together. She glanced at his green T-shirt and silver dog tag necklace. Had her father seriously hired someone from the army to be her new bodyguard?
"How old are you?" She looked him up and down.
"Twenty eight."
"Where are you from?"
"Seattle."
"Are you in the army?" She eyed the pocket of his t-shirt, printed in small black font were the words: U.S. ARMY.
"Not anymore." He answered.
"Then why do you wear all this army stuff?" She challenged.
"Why do you ask so many questions?" He shot back.
Unable to think of a clever remark, she narrowed her eyes at him. She shot him a dirty look before brushing past him and hurrying down the stairs.
"You know, I think you may be the first person to shut her up." Susan couldn't help but laugh.
Owen just shook his head and smiled.
This job was going to be interesting to say the least.
