Chapter 9
"Remember, I'm going to be behind you and off to the left, make sure you give me room to shoot," Dean advised Sam as he looked down the, long, deserted alleyway.
"I know. Don't worry, I'll have a syringe ready to use too."
"Be careful," Dean stated firmly, giving Sam a stern look.
"I know, you too," Sam replied as he got into character and wove, unsteadily down the alley hoping to attract attention of from the newly turned. He ignored Dean as he faded back into the shadows, keeping his brother in sight.
Sam hummed out loud in a drunk tune, bringing the bandanna to his face like he had a nosebleed and was wiping it. His senses were on hyper alert trying to determine if anyone was taking the bait. He was halfway down the alley when something fell ahead of him, making his falter for a moment before continuing. Until two figures stepped from the shadows blocking his way.
"Wha's up?" Sam slurred as he let his body sway. He gripped the syringe tightly in his right hand as he stepped closer trying to stay to the side so Dean would have a good shot.
"You shouldn't be out here alone," a male voice spoke to him.
"Yeah, no telling who you might run into," a female voice added.
"Just heading to my car," Sam droned out pointing to the end of the alley. "It's around somewhere."
"Why don't you let me help you find it?" the female cooed as she stepped closer to Sam.
The male hung back as he watched the female sidle up to Sam. His mouth watered in anticipation as he got a whiff of fresh blood coming from the muscular guy. He licked his lips and tensed waiting for the signal from his partner so they could knock him out and drag him to an isolated spot and feed.
"Did you hurt yourself honey?" the female asked Sam seeing a little dried blood under his nose and smelling the enticing aroma on the bandanna he was holding. She couldn't help herself when her fangs dropped, and she lunged at Sam.
Sam was waiting for the attack and when he saw the female's fangs in the dim light, waited for a second until she was closer and stabbed her with the syringe, injecting the dead man's blood into her system. He let her fall to the ground as she cried out in agony and pain.
"What did you do to her?" the male vampire yelled as he stomped toward Sam, his fangs dropping as he hissed at him.
Before he could attack Sam, an arrow sped through the air to lodge in the guy's chest. He stumbled and stopped, looking down at the arrow as the poison raced through his body making him groan and fall to his knees.
"What did you do to me?" the male vampire growled out as Dean stepped from the shadows to stand beside his brother.
"How many vampires are there?" Dean asked, his voice deep and deadly. "We can make it quick or can make you suffer."
"Go to hell," the male sneered at him.
"Suit yourself," Dean shrugged taking out a syringe and stabbing the vampire in the neck, but only injecting half of it.
"It's burning my insides," the male cried out and he fell to the ground wiggling in agony.
"You're going to pay for this," the female spat as she tried to reach for Sam's leg.
"Tell us what we want to know," Sam said moving slightly.
"Let's get them moved…Over there," Dean instructed Sam as he grabbed a leg of the male vampire and drug him between a couple of dumpsters.
"Okay," Sam replied taking the female's arms, pulling her alongside the male, and leaning her against the wall.
"How many did your master turn?" Dean asked again. He took out his machete and made sure they saw him checking it out. He swung it through the air and looked at the two to see if they were getting his meaning.
"We have no master, we do what we want and all we want to do is feed," the male insisted as he snapped his fangs at them.
"You can tell us or not, either way, you're not walking away to kill any more innocent people."
"The hunger, the need is too great to stop," the female whined. "It won't stop; it won't go away," she cried. "Why won't it stop? What's wrong with us? Why are we like this?"
"You don't know?" Sam asked looking at Dean.
"No, last thing I remember is having some fun with a hot, older guy and he gave me something to drink…" the girl trailed off. "He said it was nectar of the gods."
"Was it red?" Dean asked.
"Yes."
"Don't you know better than to accept drinks from a stranger?" Dean scoffed. "That was vampire blood. He turned you into vampires and left you to kill as many humans as you could."
"No, that can't be. He was so nice," she begged.
"Are there more of you?" Sam asked the woman.
"Don't say anything," the male vampire growled at her.
"You know we only need one of them," Dean surmised looking between the two for a moment as he raised his machete.
"No! Please," the female begged. "There's three more around here."
"See, how hard was that?" Dean asked.
"I'm sorry we have to do this," Sam started. "You didn't ask to be turned into vampires, but we can't let you kill more people to feed. You're victims too, but there's nothing we can do to save you."
"Let's get this done Sammy," said Dean in a sad tone. Sam was right, they were victims too, but he knew it had to be done.
Dean stood in front of the male and Sam took the female, looking at her with sad eyes. Dean swung first and sliced through the male vampire's neck, watching as the body slid to the side and the head rolled slowly away. Sam pulled in a slow breath before bringing his machete back to swing at the neck of the female vampire. He didn't allow for his shorter arms and the machete only sliced through part of her neck. He brought it back around to finish the job and put her out of her misery.
"Okay, we need to get rid of these bodies and go find the other three," Dean stated, looking around.
"We can hide them here while we look for the others and then come back with the Impala to take them somewhere outside the town limits and dispose of them."
"Check for a tarp or something to cover the bodies with."
They began to check the dumpsters nearby until Sam found a ripped tarp they could use. Dean put the heads beside the bodies he had pushed back behind a dumpster and helped Sam cover them with the tarp and some cardboard he had found. It was dark enough that no one would notice them until they could get back and retrieve them.
"How do we find the other three?" Sam asked as they made their way back to the alley. "I wouldn't think they would be hunting in the same place."
"I agree," Dean answered. "Was there a second location that you found when you marked that map?"
"Let me see," Sam mumbled pulling out the map and a flashlight. He walked back toward the alley opening for more light and studied the map as he looked up and down the street for a moment. "We should go a few blocks that way, he pointed before replacing the map and light into his pockets.
"Right behind you," Dean told him when Sam started walking down the street toward a less lit area. He kept his head on a swivel looking around for danger. Dean gripped his crossbow tightly to his side trying to hide it from anyone else on the street. He stayed close to Sam but gave him room to maneuver if they were attacked.
The first alleyway they came to was dark with only two lights spaced down it that barely gave enough brightness to see. They didn't hear anything or see any movement, so they went down to the next one to check it out.
"Hear that?" Sam whispered as he strained to catch the noise again.
"Yeah, let's check it out," Dean replied in a soft voice. He moved in front of Sam and raised the crossbow as he moved silently down the alley. He saw them first, a guy had a young woman trapped against the wall and was feeding from her. He aimed and fired an arrow into his back making him cry out and release his victim as he stumbled away.
Sam didn't see the vampire until he was hit from the side and knocked to the ground with the vampire on top of him. He got his arm up to stop the vampire from biting him and felt around for his machete that got knocked from his hand. Salvia dripped from the fangs onto his face making him grimace and turn his head. He growled out in pain as the vampire bite into his lower arm. Sam found the hilt of the machete and stabbed upward, driving it into the vampire's throat and up into his brain. He shoved the body off him and got to his feet so he could swing his machete like a golf club and lob off the head. He quickly turned to his brother to see him fighting one vampire while another lay squirming on the ground with an arrow in his back.
Dean had dropped the crossbow and jerked his machete out when he saw the third vampire appear from the darkness, snarling, with fangs and claws ready to attack him. He didn't have time to get his machete in position to use before he was on him. Dean turned sideways and took the blow that made him stumble backwards before losing his balance and falling. He was able to get a syringe out and as the vampire jumped on him, stabbed him and injected the dead man's blood.
"Dean!" Sam cried out as he rushed toward him to jerk the vampire off. He didn't hesitate as he put all his weight behind his swing and connected with the neck of the vampire as he wailed in agony that was cut short as the head rolled away. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Dean wheezed feeling his head and seeing blood on his fingers. "Let me finish this." He stepped back to the other vampire and took his head off.
"You go get the car and I'll get this woman moved and call 911," Sam offered as he looked around.
"I won't be long. Be careful no one sees you with the woman," Dean warned him before jogging away to get the Impala. He drove it back to the alley and eased down it to find Sam waiting on him.
"I found some plastic to put down in the trunk, so the carpet won't get blood stained," Sam noted as Dean got out of the car.
"Good, we'll get what we can in the trunk, and I hate to do it, but in the back seat too," Dean replied.
Sam spread the plastic out in the trunk, and they were lucky that these bodies were small in frame and were able to squeeze all three in back. They got in the Impala and went to retrieve the other two bodies using the cardboard and tarp to cover the backseat before placing them on it.
"By the map, if we head north out of town, we should be able to find a place to get rid of the bodies," Sam told Dean as he checked his arm by the interior light of the Impala to see it had stopped bleeding.
"What happened?" he asked pulling up Sam's jacket and shirt sleeve to see fang marks.
"Vamp bit me. Hey, you're bleeding," Sam noticed when he saw blood on the side of Dean's head.
"That last vamp knocked me down pretty hard. When we get back to the motel, we'll clean our wounds. You need to be sure and sterilize that bite, so it doesn't get infected."
"I know Dean and I need to check your head wound to see if it needs stitches. Are you okay to drive? Is your vision blurred or are you dizzy? Do I need to drive?"
"I'm not concussed," Dean fussed pulling down the alley to head out of town. "Just a dull headache."
It didn't take them long once they were out of town to find a side road that took them to an isolated spot where they could dispose of the bodies. Dean drove as far as he safely could and parked. They got out and looked around first and decided to use a deep gully Sam found back in the scrub and brush. There wasn't any vegetation growing around the gully that could catch on fire and start a forest fire.
Dean got the two bodies from the back and let Sam take one as he carried the other to the gully and dropped them into it. They went back and made two more trips to get them all thrown into the gully. Dean poured gas over the bodies and Sam salted them. Once that was done, Dean lit a book of matches and tossed it into the gully setting the bodies on fire. They stayed long enough to be sure the fire wasn't going to spread before heading back to the Impala to leave.
Dean rubbed his temple and winced with the pain. He wanted a shower, some meds, and a nice soft bed to get some rest. He looked over at his brother and checked his body out thinking they got off lucky with their minor injuries.

"Really Dean," Sam complained. "You've poured a bottle of peroxide on the bite. I think it's cleaned by now."
"I want to be sure," Dean insisted, dousing his arm again and checking it. "Okay, looks good," he decided. "Just need to put a pad over it and you're done."
"Your turn, let me look at my head," Sam told him moving so Dean could sit on the commode.
"Fine," Dean growled. "If I didn't have to deal with all this hair it would be easier to see."
"I just need to wet it to get the dried blood removed to see better," Sam said. He wet a cloth with warm water and pressed it to his long hair for a moment where it was matted with dried blood.
"Ouch," Dean whined as Sam patted at the area as gently as he could.
"Sorry, sorry," Sam told him. Once the blood was washed away, Sam parted his hair and found a small gash on the side of his head. "I'm going to clean it and put a couple of stitches in."
"Just do it," Dean grunted. He fidgeted while Sam got what he needed from the first aid kit.
"Sit still," Sam scolded at his brother. "This might sting." He wet gauze and cleaned the gash before quickly putting three stitches in his scalp. "Done."
"Good, I need a shower."
"Don't shampoo my hair. You need to keep the wound dry."
"Yeah, yeah, not my first head wound."
"I take it we'll be leaving in the morning to head back to Bobby's."
"Yep, no reason to hang around here now that the vampires are taken care of."
"While you shower, I'll let Bobby know we're be heading back."
"Okay. Let's sleep in in the morning."
"Fine with me." Sam stepped into the main room to make the call while Dean got his shower. He was asleep by the time Sam showered and came to bed. Sam turned back the covers of his bed and slipped between the sheets ready to get some rest before heading back in the morning. He was too tired to think about how it felt to fight in Dean's body and would analyze it later.
A/N: Their first hunt in the wrong bodies. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't go bad. No major injuries. Back to Bobby's to see if he's had any luck with the spell book. Thanks for coming along for the ride. I do like reviews/comments. NC
