High School was not going to be fun. Clary thought looking at the big doors to the Institute she would spend the next 3 years in. She opened the door. It was a dark ebony color. She walked In and was greeted by a bow with brown hair and glasses, "Hello, I'm Simon, Welcome to the New York Institute, one out of many homeschools for those who do not attend Public Schools. May I ask who you are?" I sighed. Simon was tall but skinny with no muscle by the looks of it. He was pale white and had brown hair and eyes.

"Hello, Simon, I'm Clary. This is my first day. I'm looking for Mrs. Lightwood? I'm supposed to be meeting her in her office at 8." I said adding a smile. "You're Clary! Clary Morganstein? Daughter of Valentine Morganstein" I stiffened. "No, I'm Clary Graymark. My Father owns the book store down the street." "Oh... I apologize. I could have sworn you looked like her." I rolled my eyes. "Hey Simon, What are you doing?" A Boy with black hair and blue eyes walked towards us. "Oh, Alec, this is Clary Graymark, Can you bring her to Mrs. Lightwood, Please? I have to wait for Clary Morganstein." You'll be waiting a while. She muttered. "Of course, Come on in Clary Graymark." He emphasized. my last name. I glared.

We walked down the long hallway leading towards an elevator. "I would have thought you were an intruder If I hadn't known what you looked like Clary." I snorted. "It's been years Alexander. You and I both know who I am now." "Your right. Back then you were a little girl who had no control over what happened."

"How's Izzy? She won't talk to me anymore?" "She won't talk to me either. She is opening up to Simon though." I laughed dryly."Why are you here, Clary?" "I-"

"Jace Harondele Get your Ass back into my office, now!" "Sorry Maryse. I have to go. I was told my fiancee is supposed to becoming." "Now you think of her as your fiancee." "I Don't control my parent's decisions Mother." "Did you even care about Clary?" The door swung open and for a moment electricity crackled through the air. Suddenly Clary could only see the past and she tore away from it as it hit her. Memories held both her and Jace in their grasps.

Fall:

"Class, This is Jace Wayland. He will be joining us for the rest of the year. Clary, I heard you are familiar with Jace, Do you mind helping him out?"

"Of course!" Clary jumped up and ran to stand in front of him, "Hello Jace, Come sit by me!" Everyone could tell she loved him. It showed on her face. And he gave her a similar look. "OKAY Clary, calm down." "I've been so excited!" He laughed settling beside her. The class gaped at them. Clary never showed any enthusiasm towards anyone. And here she was claiming the New Boy and talking to him like they'd been friends since birth.

Wintertime.

"Clary are you okay?" Jace asked. A huge handprint marred her face. It was red. "Yes." "I got into a fight with another student." She lied smiling at him. The following day, she came in wearing foundation. Concealing her face. He knew because he could smell it.

Summer

It wasn't until the end of the year when Clary overheated in the sun while they were exploring the wilderness that he realized what happened. Clary was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. Only her hands and face were visible. When Clary fainted Jace and Alec had checked her over. Izzy had told the boys to turn around so she could remove layers of clothes off Clary. It was Izzy's cry of horror that brought Jace and Alec out of their conversation. Jace whipped around and what he saw to the small petite girl he loved- made him angry and terrified.

A few hours later:

Clary woke up hearing a conversation she wasn't expecting. "We need to do something IZZY!" "Wh-what can we do? She's obviously hurt!"Clary groaned feeling all the places she had been beaten. Jace was next to her in an instant. "You better tell me what happened. And no lies either."

The year passed. Clary spent most of it at the Lightwoods, Wayland, or Fairchilds. She would also visit the Graymarks, a family friend.

The week before 5th grade Clary learned she was not Valentine's daughter. And Joycelyn wanted her out of there. Valentine launched into a rage and beat the hell out of her. Before heading for Joycelyn. Clary screamed and after that, all Clary remembered was what the police reports and news channels told her. Jace's parents found her mother and called the police. Valentine had taken Johnathan and Clary and disappeared. Jace's own parents headed the case looking for her. Jace was greeted at school by Maryse and Robert Lightwood.

"Is Clary Safe? is she alright? can I see her?" He asked, looking at them. "Yes, Your parents found her, she's in the hospital. Come on." Maryse and Robert took him to the hospital. After a couple of hours of sitting with Clary, He was taken out of the room. Joycelyn was talking with the Lightwoods.

"You're kidding! They can't be..." She had just got the message. She started crying. "Auntie Joycelyn?" He had asked. "Oh Jace, I'm so sorry." She cried, pulling him to her.

"What? Clary is fine." "Not Clary... Your parents. He... He killed them. He killed them and Johnathan." Jace had frozen. His best friend and parents were dead? "No." He denied, "No. No. No."

Clary heard him and Hollard to him, "Jace? Are you okay?" "Your lying. They'll be here. I'm going back to Clary." "I'm fine Clary."

Jace stayed in denial until he visited the funeral. They moved. Leaving Joycelyn, Clary, and the Graymarks behind.

The Institute

Now Clary stared at an older version of the 5th grader she had last seen. "Jace." She whispered. His eyes reflected the same pain she felt before he turned and walked down the hallway ignoring her. Like he didn't recognize her.
