Hey, Dark Gothic Lolita here!
So last time, I wrote a little ByaRan that a few people liked and I'm really trying my best to write more of them! I'm too scared to write a long multi-chapter because I feel like I won't be good enough, but here's a short little one-shot for you guys!
I don't own Bleach. Sorry for any grammatical and spelling errors. As much as English is my first language, I'm also lazy to properly edit half the time.
ENJOY!
My favourite place
One-shot
Rangiku was missing. Or being petty. Byakuya wasn't exactly sure which one was the truth. She wasn't answering her phone and none of their friends had seen her. Byakuya was not impressed at all. Because that now meant he had to go and find out exactly where his girlfriend was in person.
The trouble was, Rangiku had many favourite places on campus. He looked up at the department that he was currently standing outside of with a slight frown. Okay, so maybe it was his fault for neglecting her in regards to his upcoming exams, but he usually tried to get her from this lecture because it was close to his department and they finished roughly around the same time. It was the only one that they had where they were close enough. Unless maybe she believed that he wouldn't have time for her?
The guilt settled in when he had come a little late, only seeing the dribs and drabs of people who were coming out of the lecture late. He had raised an eyebrow when he noticed his strawberry blonde bundle of joy wasn't amongst them. He had even checked inside the lecture hall to see if she was talking to the lecturer, but she wasn't.
"I know she's a slacker, but she's never missed this lecture..."
Rangiku was a no work and all play kind of girl, which made their relationship very odd for the people who knew them very well. Still, they had learned many things from each other. He learnt not to be so stuck up and Rangiku learnt to take things seriously. She had started attending her lectures and getting assignments done well on time, which is why it would be odd if she hadn't shown up to this lecture.
He then started to ask around, wondering if anyone had seen her. They all gave the same stupid response. They saw her fly out of the lecture hall first as she had been sitting closest to the door. That didn't sound good. That meant that there was a sale or something going on somewhere and now he would have to guess what shopping mall or shop she had gone to.
He instantly shook that thought out of his head, using logic and reason to discern that a sale wasn't the reason for her to leave her lecture quickly. "No, that can not be it. She always likes to drag me to the sales so that she can use me for my car, my arms and my money," he chuckled quietly to himself.
Although it sounded like a mental complaint, it really wasn't. Byakuya loved giving Rangiku the world and at first, she had vehemently discouraged him from spending so much money on her. She had told him that she wasn't special and that she's not worth it. That only pushed him more to show her that she meant everything to him and that she deserved everything that he could possibly give her. It had always struck him as odd that Rangiku of all people didn't want him showering her with gifts, but he had soon come to understand her reasoning when she told him why she liked gifts, but thought it was better that she didn't accept them. So they came to a compromise. He could spend as much money on her as he wanted, granted that there was a sale taking place.
He knew that she's an independent woman who likes to buy things for herself, but he still wanted to spoil her. He had reluctantly agreed to buy her everything she wanted when it was on sale. Although he still bought her full priced things and told her he threw the receipt away so that she couldn't return it and find the price of it.
Byakuya called his sister, asking her if she knew where her friend was and she told him no. He called Rangiku's cousin, Orihime and she told him the same thing. Isane, Renji, Shuhei and Kira had no clue where she was. Even her younger brother Toshiro had no idea where she could be. He assured him that there was nothing special going on and Byakuya had to assure him that they weren't in the middle of an argument. He wasn't going to tell him that he had been ignoring his older sister for the sake of his work for the last month or so. He didn't need to know that. Although Toshiro was probably one of the most reasonable people he had ever met, all sense flew out of the window when it had to do with his sister.
He checked the coffee shop, the student shop, the bar and came up with nothing. He even checked the netball courts, knowing that she liked to play the sport, but he came back empty handed.
His annoyance was starting to get the best of him. As an heir to the Kuchiki clan, one of the oldest clans that still operated today in Japan, he had been taught how to be cool, calm and collected. When it came to Rangiku, he seemed to forget his 21 years of training. He acted like his young and reckless self whenever she was around. Mind games and teasing came naturally to him.
Honestly, he had to admit it. He loved the person that he had become because of Rangiku. Which is why he was desperate to apologise to her about blocking her out in favour of his work. He was just stressed out. His grandfather and the rest of his family were stressing him out about his already perfect grades, making him sit in on more company meetings all because his father had passed away.
Rangiku was his sun, his safe haven. She was always there with a smile on her face, cheering him on, praising him when no one else would. She loved him despite how stoic he was with everyone else. She was the only one who actively tried. He used to be so annoyed with her back in the day. He thought she was a slob, crude, lewd, loud and even a harlot. Imagine his surprise when he found that those were things she covered herself with so that others didn't know the real her.
Byakuya sighed as he checked the time. He had been looking for her for five hours. It was time to give up. He was just going to wake up extra early in the morning and wait outside of her apartment and demand she tell him where she was. He made his way to the library to at least get started on whatever assignment he needed to get started on.
Scanning his ID card, he made his way to the top floor-the quietest floor and trudged dejectedly towards his usual table, a deep scowl settling on his face.
As he rounded the corner, his eyes went wide, his blood frozen in place.
There she was, papers scattered everywhere on the large table, her laptop to the side as she glared hard at it before brightening up when she clearly understood something. She chewed absentmindedly on a straw to a drink that was long finished, one hand typing away as the other made a few notes in a notebook. Byakuya was always jealous of how ambidextrous she was.
He saw someone approach the table, asking her if it was okay to take a chair. She flashed them a guilty look as she shook her head, blond tresses flying everywhere.
"Sorry, I've let everyone else take the other chairs, but this one's gotta stay right here!"
The student wasn't impressed, even going as far as crossing their arms over their chest, trying to level Rangiku with a glare. "And why the hell is that? Whoever you're saving it for isn't coming."
Rangiku gave them a cool glare, one that she had picked up from Byakuya before she cut her eyes from them, not even bothering to give them an answer. They weren't worth it.
Byakuya watched as the student gulped and slipped away, not ready to anger her anymore. He couldn't help it as his chest swelled with pride. He had taught her that look. It was nice to know that he rubbed off on her the same way she rubbed off on him. He watched the way her hair framed her face. She was growing it out again after he had made a careless comment about how he loved running his hands through it and helping her brush it out. Her lips were bright pink and he knew that no matter how focused she is on her work, she'll always rub her lip balm on her lips.
"Rangiku." It was time to make his presence known.
The girl brightened up, shifting her eyes from her laptop to her boyfriend's as she gave him a dazzling smile. Byakuya couldn't help the peaceful smile that crawled upon his lips. He finally moved from his observation spot and Rangiku pulled out the single chair that she had clearly kept for him. To think that he had been looking for her for so long and she was here, in the library. Honestly, even if one of their friends had told him that she was here the entire time, he wouldn't have believed them. It was so hard to get her into the facility.
"Byakuya! How was your lecture?"
He gave her an answer that barely made sense. "Sufficient. Have you been here all day?"
Rangiku frowned and shook her head. "Only for like an hour. I came here immediately after my lecture to come and spend time with you, but you weren't here. I thought I would just do some of my work until you showed up."
Byakuya almost guffawed, but he remembered where he was. "You think you've only been here for an hour? I've been looking for you for the last 5 hours, since your lecture ended."
Rangiku's eyes widened as she double checked the time. She looked back at him and Byakuya could tell that she was so engrossed in her work, that she didn't even realise how long she had been here. "Byakuya, I'm so sorry! I didn't realise how much time got away from me and I honestly thought you would have been here sooner-"
She was cut off when Byakuya raised his hand. He gave her an amused look. "It's okay. I was getting worried. I called you so many times, and asked everyone where you were. I even checked all your favourite places."
Rangiku beamed. "But you didn't check yours."
He raised an eyebrow. "Come again?"
"You didn't check your favourite place. You practically live here, especially when you've got important exams. I genuinely thought that you would come here after lectures. I thought we could work together. Your stupid nature has been rubbing off on me so I decided I might as well take this seriously."
She waved her hand vaguely over her work. Rangiku was smart. Extremely smart. She was just barely driven. After being told for a long time how useless she was, she just stopped trying with many things. It was only after dating Byakuya that she really started trying again.
He sighed with a fond smile and shook his head. "Actually, my favourite place is wherever you are. I'm sorry I haven't been as responsive as you want me to be."
Rangiku shook her head with a bright smile and a light blush on her cheeks. It was so funny to see her melt at the simplest of things that he said that affirmed how much he loves her. She leaned towards him and gave him a peck on the corner of her lips. "It's ok, honestly. I know how important your work is to you and your family. That's why I thought I would just wait here for you. I just ended up getting too engrossed with my work."
Byakuya cupped her chin and gave her a soft kiss on her lips. "Nothing is more important than you. I still want to apologise to you, but I see you're really working hard."
Rangiku snorted as she started to pack up. "Don't be silly, this isn't more important than you, that's for sure! Let's go for some dinner, I'm starving."
Her hands worked quickly as she put papers away into the correct ring binders, saved her work on her laptop and they were away. She slipped her hand into his and he squeezed her hand gently, making her giggle softly. The person that Rangiku had once glared at came and snuck the chair away as they left.
"What are you in the mood for?"
He looked down at his girlfriend who was staring up at him with soft eyes. Time around them stopped as he didn't even care about who was looking at them. This woman was going to be the death of him and he really didn't mind. He wasn't lying when he told her that anywhere he was with her was his favourite place. She smiled up at him and shrugged her shoulders.
"Surprise me."
"Your favourite place it is then."
So how was it? I hope you guys liked it! I do have an idea for a multi-chaptered story, but I will be keeping it short and sweet for now.
Please don't forget to rate or hate, flames or floods! If you do stop by to read this, thank you so much, I appreciate you already!
