Hey there readers of this magnificent community that is Fanfiction. I'm here to present you the 42nd chapter of this fic.
I already told you why I can't uptdate this story more often, but let me apologize again. 5 months is not something to make fun off so, today, I won't. I'm sorry, but life is hard in its own way. Family, university, work and other hobbies I have have gotten in the way of this story, so I'm sorry for the long wait. I hope this chapter can make it up to you.
It's TIME WITH REVIEWS!
Shimo no ko: I'm glad you liked that part. I know it could be confusing and the long periods didn't help, but I tried to end it as well as I could. I hope you like this one even better!
Comisure: I'm very happy to see that you like this story that much. Comments like your motivate me to write more and better.
Niche: Yes you have and OC! With "Reality is not a cliche" I wanted to say that at anything you read be it a manga or a movie, the power of love solves everything while it's not like that in real life. I hope I explained well enought. I hope you like this one!
Fanny: Here you go, hope you like it!

Aside form those I want to thnak both "Smile all of your days" and "Crazy girl" for you encouragement when I posted the teaser of chapter 42.
Before we start I have to say that in this hcapter we accomplish the crazy amount of 400k words. Thank you all for your support through it. With this the prechapter section wpuld be complete, buuuut... apparently LC5 had something important to say. Since I am such a magnanimous writer (and very humble too XD) I'll allow it.
LexClone5: Whaaaaaaaaaat is up everybody, I am LexClone5, and it feels good to be back. WOW, 5 whole months since I've been here last… time sure flies, I guess… In that time, I've had a lot of fun. Got to play and beat Nier: Automata, which quickly made 9S one of my all time favorite characters. I also got into competitive Pokemon, which has been real fun, I've been training a bunch of good Pokemon lately. Been working on my show, which had a name change to just "LexClone5 & Prototype". I just recently finished recording my 120 Star run of Mario 64, so that should be going up pretty soon. Anyway, that's really all I've been up to, besides college Psychology. So I'll leave you guys to the reason you follow this story… the actual story… SEE YA!
READ and ENJOY!
Chapter 42: Ray of hope
Blue's POV
Gold has many faults to him, but one of his virtues becomes most important when facing a difficult situation: His optimism. Real and pure optimism is something that, after all we've been through, has disappeared from our minds. Nothing will ever be simply okay, but he believes it will be fine. And that makes us believe that somehow, everything could turn out okay.
-We're 18 people here- I told Green by my side- they're almost 40. We need to organize a defense and attack method quickly.
-The pokemon will be key- he said- You'll gather the defensive pokemon and Gold and I will gather the offensive ones. You and 10 officers will be on the defensive while the other 7 of us will be attacking.
-That's a good plan…- I said.
-That's not a plan… it's just a formation- interrupted Green- I don't know how to win this, there's not a perfect method to do it. We've got no plan, but we don't need one.
-We're the Dexholders- said Gold already facing the enemies- plans are good and all, but at the end, it's just a way to make the battle go the way you plan it. If they don't, all that's left to do is to fight the good, old fashioned way.
I smirked at their encouraging words as I felt my spirits rise too. Only a moment later a glimpse of light coming from the sky blinded me for a second, but when I opened my eyes it was gone. I searched for it a little until I decided it had just been my imagination.
-Gather all the defensive pokemon- I commanded- the defense will be the key. And we need to win this battle.
Crystal's POV (2 minutes after splitting up with the other Dexholders)
-So, to sum up the events, Kyogre was able to counter Saur's Frenzy Plant with just a Water Gun and then Pika's Thunder wasn't able to do any visible damage- said Silver- In the case of Groudon, not a Water move was able to reach him below the power of a Hydropump. But even if it did, the damage was minimal. Any other attack was dispatched too.
-I believe that we can conclude that any Fire attack will have the same effect on Kyogre and even less effectiveness since his type is resistant to it- I mentioned.
-Why is that?- asked Emerald looking through a pair of binoculars he had taken out of his backpack.
-From what you've told me and the inscription in the Pyramid, Groudon and Kyogre are complete opposites- was Red's turn now- even if one has a clear advantage against the other since water beats ground types such as Groudon. It really makes you wonder why Kyogre didn't beat Groudon back then.
-That's something to figure out after Rub is back with Groudon- said Crystal- if he's able to… for now we have to figure out how to stall Marchie and Kyogre. We must find a way to hurt this monster.
-Grass types and Electric types should be our best weapon. Mega, Sceptile, and Saur are our best grass types- I said- in fact they are the only ones we have. Pika is our only electric type.
-We have more electric attacks though… Chanpeon knows Thunder punch and I taught it toot to my Ursaring- he said- it was a good advice by Norman.
-As for the grass types, we don't have any more options…- I said- just three pokemon. Aside from that, the three of you only have one pokemon weak to water type attacks. I have two, but that won't our problem.
-Even that I don't have all my pokemon available- said Red- Aero is almost out, Poli and Gyara are quite tired too.
-Are you done with your useless strategy?- asked a deep voice in our heads. We knew that voice alright, it was something that no Dexholder would be able to forget.
-Took you long enough- was Red's comment. He sounded confident, but his face told us otherwise.
We didn't have enough time to plan anything, those 5 minutes hadn't been enough. And there were our enemies… The tall and thin man with the red and blue suit and red hair, Marchie, on top of the massive killer whale-like creature.
I had seen a monster earlier that day and the power it emanated was so great that my body shook just thinking about it. Now seeing another one again, emanating the same kind of power… it was terrifying.
Those two monsters were not only enormous or powerful, it was entirely different. I had battled against the 3 Legendary birds, Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno and hell they were strong. But these two monsters seemed to be in a whole complete level. The way the weather changed around them was just the tip of the iceberg that was their power. Against Moltres, my pokemon had been able to hold their own for a while before the others helped me, but against Kyogre or Groudon… I had the feeling that I wouldn't last 5 seconds!
-Relax Crystal… It's strong, but we are four and we've got more pokemon- said Silver.
-Sometimes I envy Gold, Silver- I said truthfully- he's never got fear. He just barges into it. Whatever it is.
-He is a fool- said Silver- but he's brave… no one can deny that. That's just one of the things you like that much about him, huh?
-Don't ever tell him I said that- I said, my cheeks temperature rising a little against the cold rain falling upon me.
-Your secret is safe with us, sis…- said Emerald- now let's beat this gigantic fish.
-Beat it, you say?- I've never heard Marchie's voice sound so happy before- you are way too enthusiastic.
-The word is confident in our possibilities- added Red.
-Even after being beaten by this same pokemon 10 minutes ago? Confidence is not the word I would use- he said- that word would be foolishness.
After his words, we unleashed all the pokemon that could battle around us. We didn't even have the time organize them before a blue sphere in his right hand glowed. Red had told us that he thought that this was the item he was using to control the monster so I was able to react when the blue monster unleashed a massive torrent of water towards us.
-Hydropump!- yelled both Red and Silver, and Feraligatr and Gyara unleashed two torrents of their own.
When the attacks collided, they seemed equally matched for a while before our team's began to fall back. It was then that Red commanded Pika to use Thunderbolt on the colliding torrents.
Pika's attack was conducted by the water towards its foe, but it seemed to be doing absolutely no damage at all. Just when it seemed that Kyogre was gaining even more ground Emerald told Mantine to use Water Pulse which made the torrents disperse, ending the collision. Not happy with that it told Dusclops to attack with Will-O-Wisp while Red told Pika to use Thunder wave on it.
With another demonstration of power the pokemon let out a roar that singlehandedly made both attacks vanish into thin air. "So status attacks won't work either… shit".
-Mega, use Razor leaf! Nonstop!
-Foolish girl…- was Marchie's answer- such pitiful attacks won't harm Kyogre in any way.
Faithful to his words, all the leaves did was bounce when colliding with the blue skin of the gigantic whale. I then noticed Red commanding Saur to do the same while both Emerald and Silver attacked it with his Water types using Hydropump. It was useless. The leaves bounced just like it had done with Mega's while both Hydropumps were deflected using a simple Water gun again.
-Lax use Hyper beam! /Ice beam Weavile!/ Solar beam Sceptile!- and just after my friends ordered their attacks three beams passed over me and towards the massive sea monster.
-A combination now I see…- said the figure in the monster's head before moving his hand rapidly in front of him.
-"Your cockiness will be your downfall"- was Kyogre's voice, but it wasn't directed at us. Maybe we could use this to our advantage.
Even if the pokemon didn't like being controlled, it turned his whole body around with a speed typical of smaller pokemon. His tail fin flipped just enough to create a massive wave in front of it. The wave dispelled both the Ice beam and the Hyper beam while the Solar beam was able to get through it. As I finally thought that the monster was going to get hit for the very first time I saw the lines in his fins flicker for a second before he let out a massive stream of water through his mouth.
The power of the attack was so great that the front part of his body was lifted revealing a white skin and the way it overpowered the super effective attack was just brutal. I looked at my Pokedex to see that it had just used Hydropump while the wave that had created before had just been consequence of his movement. The major problem was that the beam didn't stop and was closing distance towards us rapidly. Several pokemon would be caught up in the attack and we needed them all to fight.
-Tupeon, use Psybeam to…- but I couldn't finish before Silver's voice echoed through the rain.
- Hydrocannon!
As both the impressive streams collided, I was afraid that it would be overpowered again. Red had the same thought, but when they collided, they seemed to have the same power. As before, the white part of his body was visible, but that lasted until Marchie told him to stop his attack, which resulted in receiving part of the super move Silver's Feraligatr had created. The damage hadn't been that great, but it was way better than nothing.
-That was rare- was Red's voice then- All of it actually. Frenzy plant was equaled with just a Water Gun and this time a Hydropump had the same power as a Hydrocannon.
-That's because of its ability- said Silver- under the effects of rain, water attacks become much stronger.
-The next weird thing was why did he stop attacking- said Emerald.
-I suppose that the attack struggle left Kyogre open for attacks- I said.
-Let's attack separately from different angles then- he proposed.
-That can work- was Silver's comment- Honchkrow come here!
With that comment we used a single distraction caused by Red and Emerald in order to separate ourselves along the beach attacking the monster form different directions. I was in the left while Red, Silver and Emerald, in this order, stood to my right separated by no less than 50m.
-So you now separate from the others in order to attack me? I wouldn't call that an intelligent choice-said Marche while the sphere in his hand glowed.
As it did that, Kyogre unleashed a Water Gun attack towards the place where Silver stood. Without enough power to deflect this attack, his only option was to dodge it. Flying atop his Honchcrow, it was easy for him, but his pokemon suffered more. Feraligatr was caught in it, but was able to endure it. Weavile and Rhydon were able to avoid it, the same as Ursaring. Kingra's case was the same as Feraligatr since his types were protecting him almost perfectly.
That was the problem of this decision, it constantly forced us to dodge, but it had some good points too. Attacking the pokemon became easier since it couldn't attack the four of us at the same time. I could land some hits with Mega's attacks, but their effectiveness was near 0, and the same went for my friends. The real problem was that our already tired pokemon were receiving damage.
-Shit, fly now Tupeon!- I commanded when the monster attacked myself. Then it did something even more terrifying.
The Water gun was no more a single stream of water. Instead the monster began collecting water before shooting massive water bullets towards us. With that Marchie was able to shoot at the four of us in a very short time, which kept us dodging even more frequently. The attacks that we were able to land were smaller in number and the attacks our pokemon received was increasing per moments.
The assault lasted for a good minute before, without giving us anytime to attack, Marchie told it to create a giant wave. We were all able to dodge it in time, but the assault continued. As we flew over it, Kyogre started launching the same massive water bullets towards us. The only option we got was to keep dodging until the pokemon had to take a break from the assault, but our pokemon were getting more and more tired.
-The almighty DexHolders…- was Marchie's mocking voice- seems like the whole world has overestimated you. Four versus me and one pokemon and the only thing you can do is to keep dodging.
After that, his attack stopped and that left time for us to reunite, since it was clear that, when separated, we could hardly defend ourselves from his attacks. I knew what he was doing. We all did. He was making fun of us, not only with his words, but with his actions. We were being manipulated like mere puppets in Kyogre's hands.
-He's smart alright- said Emerald trying to put a confident voice- but we are 4 and he can only use one pokemon.
-He's very smart and very powerful- added Silver- add one of the best pokemon to his arsenal and you'll have the best combination out there. He's probably unbeatable.
-But Silver…-it was the truth, but to admit it so clearly…
-But nothing, we've all seen it. I'm not saying that we have to surrender or give up- he explained- that's never happening, but… things are looking bad.
-Silver is right with what he says- stated Red, surprising everyone- we can never expect to beat this guy. Not the four of us at least. Maybe the 9 of us would stand a chance, but that's off the point. We knew what we were getting into. We didn't believe it was true, but we knew. But it'll be okay, I'm sure of it.
-What you say doesn't make sense, Red- pointed out Silver.
Before Red could answer, a massive water stream was launched our way. We had to split up to evade it again, but we reunited soon after that. Behind us, a loud crashing noise could be heard and when I turned to see it, I saw that the water had created a massive crack on the nearest building
-You guys woke Groudon up, the only pokemon that can stand a chance in front of Kyogre. Marchie is really smart and so strong, but he's not the only one. There are 9 DexHolders fighting this war, but there are 10 in our side.
-It's true that Rub said he was going to deal with Groudon, but what can he do?- asked Emerald- We could do nothing to control it.
-It's true, but he'll be able to do something- he said confident- he is the most surprising guy I've ever met. He's literally a box full of surprises. We just have to buy him some more time. I know that he'll come and give us the opportunity of turning this war around.
-You have a lot of faith in him- I pointed out.
-Of course I do- he asked with a smile- As I told Green before, he's someone that I would trust my life with. This said, this won't be easy, but we're the only ones who can do it. We have to hold on until he comes.
-And how do we do that?- asked Emerald.
-There's no flawless enemy. We have to look for some weak point we can exploit- I said.
-You're the one that notices them better, Crys- was Silver's voice- have you got anything?
-Not yet, but… there's something- I said thinking- weird about its attacks.
-Then it's settled- said Emerald when the three of them stood in front of me in a protective manner- We'll let this in your hands.
-Yeah- Red said smiling- It's time for the WPS formation.
Gold's POV
Shit, shit, and fifty-three point four times the square root of shit! I hate this rain so much that if I am able to come out of this alive, I'll teach Sunny Day to all my pokemon and make them use it all the time, even while at home. Why do I hate it that much? For a lot of reasons actually.
For starters, I'm all wet and cold from the water, and I'll be lucky if I only come out of this situation with a damn cold. Second comes the visibility problem since, with such an amount of rain, is almost nothing whatsoever. The third one is that the rain weakens Explotaro's attacks a lot, and even if it makes Poltaro's attacks stronger, it's not nearly enough to compensate due to the fourth one, which is also the worst.
They have a lot of electric pokemon. And by a lot, I mean like 18 or more. From Magnetons to Ampharos and even some Electabuzz, while not forgetting those annoying Manectric and their Thunder. Electric attacks never fail under heavy rain and they were using Zap Cannon and Thunder one after the other. To the point that we couldn't use the stronger water attacks since they easily countered them with those, quickly hurting our aquatic pokemon. They had us all defending our position with everything we had.
-Gold!- was the shout of one of the officers- We have to attack at some point. We won't win this only defending.
-We know that. But we just can't attack- Blue said from behind me- Attacking right now would be suicide.
-They're right though- I interjected- we've got to find an opening to do it. If not it's just a matter of time.
The conversations we had were cut short all the time, like in this case, when I was forced to command Utaro to use Rock Throw to block yet another Zap Cannon. Then when the little explosion took place I got a little idea. Something unexpected that could help me gain some moments.
-Poltaro, we'll do that plan again- I told my pokemon- prepare 5 clones of Utaro.
As my pokemon nodded I explained the plan to my colleagues. It was a risky one, since it was complicated that it would work completely, but it was better than nothing. Improvising was one of my best traits, and this plan was made of improvisation completely.
-We'll make it work. We need them to feel fear, if only a little- said Green- and this plan can cause this.
And when another barrage of attacks came towards us and we created a massive counter of attacks to stop it. The field became clouded by smoke. The rain really helped clear the field quick, but the damage was already done. 6 clones of Poltaro were running like crazy towards the enemy with his Dynamic Punch charged in both hands as the glow in their fists indicated.
They reacted quickly trying to stop them with attacks, but they passed through them. The horror could be seen in their faces until the ones who had seen me use it before in the crumbling building reacted and calmed everyone down, telling the other that, at most, only one of them was real. That was too bad. That's a rule I learnt today, only use the same strategy once against the same enemies.
And it was when they discovered my disguise at the beach. Not now. Not when the clones were just the decoy.
BOOM!
-What the heck?- was the shout that came from them when 5 explosions appeared in their front lines heavily damaging some pokemon. As before some smoke and dust prevented us from seeing what was happening, but I knew. When it cleared, I saw that around one explosion some pokemon had been frozen solid while other had received a lot of damage due to a combination of Ice beams. In another one was burnt while several ones had received a massive hit from one of the strongest attacks to exist, Blast Burn.
A series of Mud shots had connected with their electric powerhouses. Some of the grunts had not been as easy to read and they had used either Protect or Detect. We weren't able to see what had happened to the pokemon and if some of them had been knocked out, but this attack made a huge difference. If the only thing we did before was to defend, the attack had given us a moral impulse to start attacking.
Leaving the defensive task to our colleagues, Green and I and some officers took time to start attacking. We were able to close our distance between us and like this we were able to land more hits towards our enemies. This, of course, also had some bad consequences. Being so close their attacks started hitting more frequently. That meant that our defense had to be more effective than ever.
-Blue we need something. Those electric attacks are killing us- yelled Green by my side.
-Already on it!
With that, two Mightyena positioned in front of us. As soon as I thought why, Nidory and a Nidoking that was owned by the oldest police officer came behind them.
-That's all we can lend you- said the 55 year old man- We need all the other pokemon somewhere else.
With the coverage those pokemon provided we continued attacking. The Nido pair defended our water types from electric attacks as much as they could and like this we could, finally, make profit of the rain with our water types. The Mightyenas defended both monsters from any Psychic attack that was sent their way. And while this worked well for some time, some more problems arose.
Both Green and I were fairly okay, but the officers weren't. Their pokemon weren't as strong as ours, nor they had the same stamina. Add to that the fact that our enemies had more pokemon than us, sooner than later the officer's pokemon started fainting. So far we got 8 pokemon KOed in our side and that meant that the pokemon that were still good to go, had more work in their hands. And that tired them out. It was a downwards spiral that, would lead the fight into an inevitable loss.
And as soon as that thought passed through my mind I saw something. Something shining at the other side of the town. It was just a moment though, since the fucking rain and clouds darkened everything again. However, that sparkle was something important. I just knew it. Just the same way I knew that this battle was still to be decided.
Red's POV
The WPS formation is a formation that can seem simple in the untrained eye, but it is the complete opposite. WPS is the acronym of Weak Point Search formation, and its function is as simple as that, to search and find the Weak Point of an enemy be it a pokemon or a group of pokemon. Trainers and their teams also count too. As simple as that, right? Wrong, it's an extremely complicated strategy that we came up with, luckily, before our fight against Team Rocket.
In fact, it was the key to our "easy" victory against them. The usual formation revolves around Crystal, since she's the one that knows most about pokemon and their weaknesses. The rest of us that stand in the formation command our pokemon and hers in order to protect from any incoming attacks while she searches for the weak point. And that's where the tricky part comes to light.
Looking for a weak point is never enough, if it's that easy to find, we wouldn't need this formation. Someone must pressure the enemy in order to make their flaws shine, so at some point, our pokemon must attack. Crystal has total preference of command to all of our pokemon on the field. Her job is to evaluate the situation and chose when, who and how it will attack in order to prove her theories. Our job is easier in the theory, since we only have to focus on defense, but that can be tricky since our enemies are bound to be strong like this case.
In the battle against Team Rocket we used this against the 3 legendary birds: Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno. Even then there were 6 people protecting her since Blue and Silver were infiltrating in their base. And now we are battling a monster arguably stronger than those 3 combined with only 4 people.
-I see you decided to continue together… It is a good idea- he mocked- That's the only option you have, even if it's not much.
-I'm sure it'll be more than enough- I said then- Don't be mistaken, you won't win this war.
At that he laughed, a lot. He laughed so hard that even Blue and the others might have heard him. He was so full of confidence… I had hope, but hope alone can't do everything and I know that. We're gambling a whole lot in this, following a plan built in mere minutes while he had probably planed this for ages. We, the Dexholders, are strong, but we've received a lot of damage in this one, both mentally and physically.
-Then try to stop me if you can…- he said and the three of us prepared for the offensive that was going to come.
And it came indeed. A Water gun just in front of us to cover us in sand, before sending us a massive wave that forced us to dodge upwards. Without time to rest, we were forced to defend from 5 Water bullets before another wave. After that the pokemon surprised everyone when, after glowing a bit, it created some massive boulders around it and send them flying at an incredible speed.
After using some of our pokemon to freeze them before breaking them with our fighting type attacks.
-That attack was Ancient Power- said Crsytal behind us- and this is bad.
-Poli, Ursaring, and Snorlax- I said- use Strength in every similar attack. Send the rocks back!
Crystal was trying hard, that much was obvious. Knowing that the monster knew Ancient power, an attack capable of boosting every characteristic that the pokemon possessed was alarming. Boosting its attacking capability could decline the battle clearly on their side and boosting the monster defenses would be too much to handle. If we haven't been able to damage it like it is now…
So she tried. She made Pika use Thunderbolt on the attacks in order to harm Kyogre and used Chanpeon and Ursaring to deflect with Thunder Punch his water gun attacks in order to let the electricity make contact which resulted in him using his water bullets… Using Solarbeam as much as she could to different spots which resulted in them being blocked with a simple Water gun…
With our pokemon growing tired, the situation was becoming harder and harder each and every minute. The only time that her attacks were able to do something was when she used Saur's, Sceptile's, and Mega's Solarbeam at the same time and on the same spot. This resulted in the monster rising his front midsection and using a massive Hydropump on them. Our attacks we clearly overpowered, but when she told Pika to use Thunder on the water Marchie decided to stop the attack and receive the remaining energy of the 3 Solarbeam attacks.
-Crystal, are you sure about that?- asked Emerald after she had told us the next thing she was going to try.
-No, but we have no other option…- she said- If this doesn't work nothing will.
No one likes being on the defensive. We are more used to attack our enemies, to force them to stop us, but this time was different. We couldn't get into the offensive no matter how we tried. We had started this war attacking and succeeding, but the tables had turned completely.
-You'll never learn, will you?- said Marchie then- I cannot be beaten, not now. But it's better this way, it would be very boring if you so kindly handed the reigns of the world to me.
-It's really not our fault that you trained your worst enemy- said Red- One you'll never be able to surpass.
His laugh was audible. Not in our minds like his words. It was so loud and confident that we were able to hear it from where we stood.
-You guys are so funny- he said stopping his laugh- You don't stand a chance, don't you see? I am toying with you.
"It is I the one who's toying with their excuse of a defensive formation"- was the monster's deep voice in my head.
-I'm commanding you now, so let me rectify you… I'm the one toying with them Kyogre- said Marchie.
"DON'T BE SO FULL OF YOURSELF! YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY CONTROLLER!"- said Kyogre's voice again, frustration emanating from every word-"It's just thanks to that sphere you possess that you're able to control me."
-That's right- he answered- The creation of this sphere was what postponed my dream for so long. That and the enemies in front of us, the ones who destroyed the machine that creates it along with half on my base that day 5 years ago.
-Put a sock in it already!- Emerald yelled- You know it's not healthy to hold grudges for that long.
-And who says I'm healthy?- he said madly- Do you think Giovanni was sane when he tried to obtain the very thing I shall obtain here and today? I'm not! Power turns people mad, mad enough to do anything to achieve one's dream! Like I have today!
-Never underestimate your enemy Marchie!- was Crystal's yell then- Or something unexpected could happen! Just like it happened five years ago!
Then Marchie's face contorted in rage. It was clear that, for different reasons, Marchie hated that day five years ago just like we did. Not as much though. It was suddenly when Kyogre send 3 massive water bullets towards us. We were about to defend, but Crystal beat us to it.
-Frenzy Plant!- she yelled.
Mega, Sceptile, and Saur had been concentrating green energy for a while before joining their concentrated energy in one massive sphere. It even grew a little more before I saw not three beams, but an extremely massive one travel directly towards our enemy.
It was so strong that it illuminated several meters around it. It was nothing I had seen before. With the way those three bullets evaporated as soon as they made contact, I swear that so much power would be able to damage even a mountain. That's what caused me to almost give up when I saw that it hadn't been enough. Kyogre stopped it with an attack of its own.
For a moment, it was like the whole rain stopped, no… It didn't stop. It concentrated. Kyogre's lines started shining brighter than ever and the monster lifted its front side of the body. All the rain droplets and even some sea water ones started to concentrate just in front of its mouth forming a blue glowing sphere that grew larger and larger every second. It grew enormously before shooting an even brighter blue beam that collided with the fusion of the three ultimate moves.
The collision created such a massive expansive wave that Emerald, Silver and I were almost thrown to the ground even as far as we were from it.
-It can't be!- was Silver's voice.
It was understandable since Kyogre's attack was gaining the upper hand. Little by little, it was pushing our attack back. We tried to distract it using some attacks on it, but the wind deflected all attacks making they go to random directions. We couldn't interfere. And Kyogre's attack was maintaining its power while our pokemon were nearing their limit. Having measured it more than enough times, I knew that they only had 10 seconds longer.
-Chanpeon! Use Mach Punch and then a Thunder Punch!- yelled Crystal, as a desperate measure.
But what no one expected to do anything did something incredible. Using the speed of the Mach Punch, Chanpeon closed the distance in a split second before slamming the underside of Kyogre's mouth with a strong Thunder Punch attack. Since no one expected this to do anything, we were all astounded when electricity covered Kyogre and it closed its mouth in pain.
With that loss of concentration, Kyogre's attack lost power and it was finally cancelled by the three Frenzy Plant attacks.
-I have one good news. I found its weak point!- said Crystal, clearly panting- But I got two bad ones. The first bad one is that its underwater most of the time and since this pokemon controls the sea, it'll be almost impossible to hit.
-And… the second one?- I asked already knowing the answer.
-The second one is… that if it was able to counter our combination with its Primal Pulse- she said- There's no fucking way we can beat it.
Yellow's POV
I opened my eyes little by little, until they shot open when I realized what I had done. Just after examining and healing Sapphire as much as I could, I rested a bit thinking about all the things that had happened since the war had started. In some point of time I had fallen asleep by her side.
I was ashamed that I had been sleeping peacefully while my friends were risking their lives. I looked at the clock only to find that I had been sleeping for a little more than 30 minutes. I immediately looked at Sapphire and I tried to examine her again. I was surprised when I was able to do it much easier than before. Of course, I was able to, I had been sleeping and restoring my energy. As bad as this could've been, there was no going back so what I tried was to make the most profit of it.
My examination on Sapphire wasn't able to teach me much though, since her state was very similar as before. She wasn't in a bad shape, but she wasn't improving at all. Even her sleep wasn't a peaceful one, meaning she wasn't resting nor restoring her much needed energy as much as she should.
-Ru-Rub… you… hurt- I heard her say- Blue… take…him away.
Not leaving her side again, I tried to learn what was happening outside in the battlefield. When Walo understood my command, the massive whale pokemon rose until it was able to surface. Looking into its immediate memories I was able to see what he was seeing. And sadly, it wasn't much.
Due to the rain and the darkness the only things I was able to see were the backs of a monstrous sea monster, which I supposed to be Kyogre. It was unleashing attacks towards the shore almost indiscriminately. I looked at my Pokedex, but being as far as I was, it wasn't able to give me any information. Then I had to stop looking at it since I heard some movement by my side.
When I turned I saw Sapphire convulsing a little. Her eyes opened for a second and I was able to see a flash of blue in them. I immediately kneeled beside her and took her hand in my right one, while my left one covered her eyes. I focused my energy in trying to find what was happening to her. It was so weird.
It was like Sapphire was no longer a human, but a pokemon. I wasn't tiring as fast as I'm used to when healing humans and I could see her memories more easily, only that they weren't Sapphire's or were it…
All I saw was a blue room with Sapphire at the centre before a flash of red turned the room into a purple colour. When that happened I saw Rub's figure appear in the room and talk to Sapphire. I hear everything that they talked, but I some of it was muffled by Kyogre's thoughts. And one thought above all the other ones surprised me. I had to supress all my raging emotions then because I had to calm Sapphire down.
It didn't take so long to do it, but I still found that she was still as tired as before. That left me with just one choice. She had been asleep for more than an hour and a half and she hadn't shown any signs of recovery. Seeing that I knew what I had to do. I needed to know what had they done to her. I had to wake her up.
Blue's POV
-Blue we need something. Those electric attacks are killing us- yelled Green in front of me.
"Just great" I thought. Defending is always difficult and even more if you're against a lot more people. Even that I knew that in order to win, attacking was primordial, so if I had to sacrifice a little defense for some more attack power… It was the logical thing to do.
-Already on it!- I told him before looking around me- Martin! Lend me your Nidoking! Greta, Tom I need your Mightyenas. Nidory defend any electric attack with Mud shot or whatever attack you see fit. The same goes to you Nidoking. Mightyena's protect any incoming Psychic attack.
Now I had to reorganise the defense again. Some of it remained untouched, since their work was to keep their attacker busy with attacks that could do great deal of damage if they arrived, but without those four pokemon we were more open to the incoming attacks. And it showed.
They had been attacking from a lot of angles, even from behind. Using Camouflage, they had let pokemon enter our defensive lines that were able to cause a lot of damage. Two Starmies had been the ones to beat 4 more pokemon from their backs and they had used a Mr. Mime to trap 3 more pokemon inside a transparent box and fight them there. Only Bull had come out of it okay.
With that and other traps that they had left for us when they saw us advance and they had to reorganise themselves. Dealing with all that had taken a huge toll on our pokemon and more than 10 of them had been knocked out in the process. All the advantage we had gained after Gold's surprise attack had reduced to a gain of terrain, but not in numbers.
A great tremor of the earth took place then, so great that I almost fell down. I saw that almost everyone had suffered the same so I thought that it had been an enemy plan all along, but something was off. They haven't really taken advantage of it, like in the 20 seconds that we were stunned by it, we were clearly open for attacks. And none came.
-Is it hotter in here?- asked a man on my right.
Really? It's raining a lot of cold water and the wind is blowing. It's really not hotter, not unless you're starting to have a very high fever. Probably that was the case.
-What was that?- asked another one- I just saw a light there, between the buildings.
-I saw nothing, it was your imagination- said another when a barrage of attacks came towards us.
As we were able to defend from it I thought at that conversation, remembering what I had seen earlier myself. Coincidences are something common, but not in this level. Weirds things also happen, but being weird, they can be important too.
-WATCH OUT!- was the shout when suddenly I was shoved to the side by one of my pokemon. I was totally unable to tell which one.
As soon as we dove a lot of attacks passed upon us. The problem was that they came from behind. I saw a cold of dust forming in my right side. As it cleared I saw two officers laying there unconscious, their pokemon crouching by their side.
-That's two more down- said Zan's voice from behind with a smile- thought the one we wanted to take down is still up and ready to fight.
-You can bet I am- I said then.
-And she's undoubtedly mad at us- he said trying to mock me, too bad I'm not as easy to manipulate as Gold.
The pokemon that belonged to the fallen officers then stopped crouching and glared to the ones that caused the attack menacingly. Even if I knew what was going to happen, I was unable to even react before all 7 of them launched forward in a desperate to avenge their fallen friends. The result was the obvious.
A perfectly synchronized group versus 7 pokemon attacking recklessly was not even a challenge. Even I was surprised when two of the 5 grunts that Zan had by his side were KOed by the furious pokemon group. I tried to help them achieve at least something, but Zan himself blocked all my attacks effectively.
-Face it Blue, you're time is running low- he said- We surpass you in number and power. You have all fought well, impressively if I am sincere, but it won't be enough. The best group of the world will fall in a matter of minutes after fighting like no other group would've been able to.
-It's not over until the end- I replied.
-The heroes still they want an epic end- he said solemnly- one that can enlarge even more their myth. That, my friend, is what I'll provide you.
A cold sweat fell from just over my right eye and travelled along my face until I felt it falling to the ground. He was right. I don't want to admit it, but 15 officers were not enough and up until now we had lost these two officers that which needed medical attention and some of the pokemon that had fainted. The situation was critical.
-You'll provide me nothing of the sort- I said then, trying to gather my courage- We'll enlarge the myth by beating you!
-Not a chance!
With that a barrage of attacks came my way and I had to use all of my ability to defend from them without receiving damage. Two of their pokemon were able to surpass my defensive line and attack us from behind using Extremespeed and they forced me to evade the Slash attack that a Linoone sent me before I was engulfed by a Dragonair's Twister.
Since I was unable to command my pokemon, they had to defend themselves. The good thing was that they were able to do that receiving minimal damage. The problem… They were totally open for the next attack. Their positions were too far from each other and our foes were already preparing their next set of attacks. I only had Blasty, Bull and three pokemon that the officers had lend me to command. A Pelipper, a very injured Magmar and the only one that would with stand such the barrage, a Victreebel.
Why this would be the only one surviving? Because the attacks pointing my way were Zap Cannons, and Thunders. Very strong attacks with a lot of chances of failure, but not under heavy rain. Under heavy rain, they were too much to handle with this pokemon.
-It's your time Blue, it's been an impressive battle- said Zan when he lifted his hand- but it's over. Now!
As he said this I saw him swing his arm down and the pokemon launch their attacks. I only closed my eyes as I braced myself for the upcoming impact and then, I heard the explosions and the cries of pain that my poke... Wait, no I didn't hear them, just the explosions. I quickly opened my eyes.
And when I did I was impressed at what I saw. Two officers with two pokemon each were by my side with two Protect attacks activated. I looked around to see that they had stopped some attacks that came my way, but that wasn't even the most impressive part! All the pokemon were unharmed. Their attacks or at least some of them had just… failed.
-What is happening?- I asked the two officers- How could they fail?
-It's the rain Blue…- the man said- it's stopping.
-What? What do you…
But when I looked up I saw that it was raining much less than before when you couldn't even see your companions 20 meters away from you. In fact, when I looked up I was blinded for a moment by a sun ray that fell directly on me.
Emerald's POV
-No Dusclops!- I yelled when I saw my pokemon fall unconscious after receiving a full powered Water Gun bullet.
Dusclops and Snorlax had been already defeated, just like Poli, Arcapeon, and Ursaring. And that left us in a very complicated situation. With those pokemon out, Aero and Gyara extremely hurt, and all our pokemon panting from fatuigue, things were going really bad.
-Emerald don't get separated!- was Silver's shot when another bullet passed between us.
-I'm trying not to!
As soon as I was able to I came back to our defensive line, where most of our pokemon were using any attack to repel and defend from the monster's bullets. From the time that Crystal had successfully harmed Kyogre attacking his weak point directly, Marchie had never instructed it to use anything stronger than a Water gun, those bullets or to create a tsunami to disperse a barrage of attacks. It had also used Ancient Power, but luckily, we've been able to dodge them.
The major problem though, is the following. Discovering its weak point had taken an immense toll on us and it had all been for nothing. Or that was what it seemed since we couldn0t harm him again.
-Pika use Thunder on that bullet- commanded Red before the bullets evaporated in a steam cloud just in front of us- guys we need to do something… He's toying so much with us. We're not even a bother right now.
-Seems that way- said Silver- we need to do something quick or…
-We'll lose- ended Crystal.
That's when we heard another laugh coming from our enemy. He was having so much fun that it was insulting. We are the best team in the world, if we can't do anything to even bother him a little, what were we? A fraud?
This is the very first time since all those years ago that I felt so powerless. And I really thought that those days were gone. We had trained so much, suffered being imprisoned for months, practiced and improved for so many years, passed so many challenges. All those organizations, Team Rocket… none of them had even gotten close to beat us. We, along with the power of the Pokemon Association, had often been declared as invincible, but we weren't. Marchie, the only enemy we couldn't beat, the one we escaped from back in the day was more powerful than what we were.
-You've already lost- he said when he stopped laughing- You knew it before, but you have only realized now. It doesn't matter how you attack us, your attacks can be countered by Kyogre. It doesn't matter if you discovered its weak point. If you can't aim an attack there it's useless. You've fought we, I'll admit that, you've been the best entertainment I could've asked for, but it's no longer fun. My throne is good for the taking and I won't let it wait any longer.
-Don't ever underestimate your enemy Marchie- said Crys then, gathering power from weakness- that's a lesson that you should've learned already.
-That's where you're wrong- he said- I'm not underestimating you. Kyogre let's start battling seriously.
"You may not be underestimating them, but you're underestimating ME!- Was Kyogre's voice- You've got me under your control, but… just you wait HUMAN!"
Nevertheless, it was clear that Marchie was in total control of the monster since as soon as the sphere glowed the Pokemon stopped talking and attacked us. And hell, this was different.
-Cover yourselves!- was Red's shout when a massive Blizzard was created under the falling rain.
As the blizzard covered us I felt like I was going to be frozen solid by it, but it finally dissipated the reality was almost as bad. Mantine had covered me and for this reason had been the one to be frozen and KOed in the same time. For my friend's part, things weren't much better. Silver had used Kingdra to shield himself and all his pokemon, but the Protect was unable to endure all the power and it received some damage. This had happened to Red also, which had used Gyara's last ounce of power to protect his remaining pokemon coiling his body around them. Crystal had been the one to endure it the better since Arcapeon was able to melt all the frozen shards her way.
The problems came after that. Without any moment to rest massive boulders fell from the sky towards us making us dodge to the side. The Ancient Power attack was unable to touch any pokemon, but when we had separated each other in order to evade the attack, Marchie attacked with more Water gun bullets which covered of it. Aero fell after receiving one of them head on, Mega received another hurting her a lot more than it should and while Sceptile deflected one with much effort, Mr. Mime was in the way and received the full power of it. With only 3 pokemon from my side, 3 more in Red's, 4 from Silver's and 5 from Crystal... things were looking bad.
We tried then to go on the offensive trying to attack with all our usable pokemon. Trying to attack from all sides, we tried to distract them, but when we did that, the monster turned again creating another massive tsunami that cancelled all of them. As soon as Kyogre stopped truning Rd commanded Pika to attack using a Thunder attack charged for a very long time.
Sure enough, Kyogre's head rose just enough to allow the weak part of his skin to surface. It seemed that it would be effective when Kyogre suddenly lowered its head to repel the attack. Since the Thunder attack had been so strong, I was able to see Kyogre wince a little, but soon after that and without any command, it launched another round of Ancient Power.
As soon as we dodged to the sides Kyogre's lines glowed a little before the monster opened its mouth. After gulping a massive amount of salty water it stood calm for a while, the just amount of time I needed to pinpoint the PokeDex on him:
Known attacks: Water Gun, Primal Pulse, Hydropump, Blizzard, Ancient Power and Water Spout. (LC5: Hacks... Hacks I tell ye...HAX!)
-Protect yourselves!- I yelled, but it was useless.
As soon as I started to yell Kyogre sent all the gathered water to the sky from the hole in his back before it fell like water spears upon us. I too moved again, but I couldn't evade them all. The water spears falling upon us were too much. Our pokemon suffered a lot from them, but they weren't the only ones. After the attack, I was able to see that some cuts had appeared in my arms, while trying to protect myself.
I really wasn't bleeding a lot, but damn they hurt. Red had been able to come unscratched for the most part, the only wounds had appeared in his left shoulder and his shirt had been ripped. Crystal's pokemon had taken the damage for her, but that left only Mega and Parapeon still able to fight. Silver's case was almost the same since only Gyarados, Feraligatr and, surprisingly, his new Rhydon were the only ones ready for more.
-I'm sorry, but this really isn't fun anymore- were the words spoken by our enemy- I believe it's time. Kyogre, it's time to unleash your full power.
-You're telling that this wasn't everything?- were the discouraging words that left my mouth before I had any time to ask.
"Are you making fun of me human? I'M NOT A POKEMON, BUT A GOD! The god of the seas! The one able to cover the entire surface of this planet with my element!- was Kyogre's voice- This is not even half of the power I possess!"
-Say what?- said Crystal as soon as the blue sphere started shinning more even brighter than before.
As soon as it did, Kyogre's lines glowed and it closed its eyes. A sudden "bip" from my PokeDex made me look at the screen when the air around me became colder than ever. The still falling rain felt colder in our bodies, but something was weird.
-We've got an opportunity guys!- said Silver looking at his PokeDex too- Sheer Cold is a One-Hit KO attack, but almost always fails. After this it will be weaker for a while and that will be our opening.
-Let's prepare our electric attacks then- Crystal ordered- Red use…
-FOOLS!- yelled Marchie before a hard laugh- You don't have any option! We're not aiming at you! C'mon Kyogre unleash it, your strongest attack! Sheer Cold!
-What do you mean with…- I started, but soon everything became clear… and I fell to my knees- we've lost.
The monster suddenly opened its eyes and the lines stopped shining. For a second nothing happened, but after that a strange shock wave was created and it starting expanding in all directions. And that's when my fear turned into despair. As the shock wave travelled the sea was frozen in place. They weren't aiming at us, they were aiming to everything.
Waves going up and down became frozen in a second, the water droplets were frozen solid and the shock wave was travelling fast and wasn't slowing down. The waves weren't 50 m far away when I was able to feel the coldness in the air and I closed my eyes. Everything was over.
-WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?- was the shout that made me open my eyes again.
As I looked around already hoping to see everything covered in ice and icy statues of my friends just meters away from me I was surprised to be able to move perfectly. My friends and the pokmeon were fine. The ice had stopped just about 10 m away from me.
"You really don't know anything human!-was Kyogre's voice replying Marchie.
-What do you mean?- asked Marchie to the monster he was controlling.
"He's here!"
-WHO is here?
-That would be me, I suppose- said a voice now, coming from behind us, but with the same power and tone as Marchie's.
Sure enough, Rub was walking towards us, before passing us and staying put. As he was approaching, the ice covering the sand melted with each step and the rain stopped completely around us in a matter of seconds. What the heck was that?
-Who are you?- asked Marchie, in a bored tone- someone trying to be a hero?
-I'm the only one who can stop you right now!- said Rub with a confidence I've never heard coming from him.
-Then enlighten me Mr. Hero with only one arm…- said Marchie with a mixture of irritation and amusement- who are you, the only person that can stop me?
-Leave this to me guys and go help the others, they need your help- said Rub with his back facing us- I'll keep him busy until you come back.
After that Rub just clenched his right fist and I saw three red lines appear in the back of his hand. Those lines disappeared under his right sleeve, but then I saw them shone more brightly than before. And as soon as this happened the earth below us started to shake.
-Go! Now!- were his words then and Red grabbed my wrist and pulled me with them.
-I asked WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?- was Marchie's roar then.
-My name is Ruby and I am… THE CONTROLLER OF THE EARTH!
And here you go, the end of the 42nd chapter of this fic. I really had fun writing, I'm really glad to have achieved this part of the story.
Again I'll apologize for the 5 months you had to wait for it, you all are simply the best.
I also want to say that the chapter countdown until the end is reaching really low numbers. If my calculations are correct the story will have it's final chapter, the epilogue, in chapter 48 tops.
This said, REVIEW and STAY TUNNED!
