Enchanted Forest

Many Years Ago

They found her.

She didn't how, but all Snow White could do nothing but run from the Dark Knights that had spotted her in a village trying to find supplies for her tree stump hideout. She was trying to be careful but that wasn't enough it seemed.

Their angry shouts for her head seemed to bounce off the tree's around them as she headed straight to her hideout, that's the only place she thought off to get away from them. To hide.

But that all came crashing down as three more knights appeared from almost nowhere in her pathway with their swords out ready to strike her down making her come to skidding stop on the forest floor. A dead-end.

All she could do was pull out her poor excuse of a dagger from her belt, holding it up so it's dulling point faced he sky, she would put up some sort of fight against them. She would not be going back to Regina quietly.

"Well…what are you waiting for?" the bandit tells the knights. At that the men in chain mail that donned the Queen's colours started their approach on the bandit only for their advance to be halted when three arrows' embedded themselves one after the other on the knights in front of her within seconds. After a beat they all fell to floor in a heap as she and the knights behind her blankly stared at what had happened in shock silence before a voice above her reminded the former Princess that she wasn't completely out of the woods yet

"RUN!" a voice from above her urged her on. Without a beat the bandit ran past the now dead and dying knights to continue her way to her sanctuary while the three behind her followed after her. The sound rustling of the branches above her made the young woman look up as she saw a blurred dark figure running along with her jumping branch to branch, tree to tree like it was the most natural thing to do in the world.

It reminded her of the girl that had saved herself and her stepmother years ago. Amelia. She remembered watching from the safety of Regina's skirt as she stopped the men that had tried to kill them.

A scream behind her brought her out of her memory of the redhead making the bandit quickly look back to see one of the knights with an arrow sticking out of his next between were his helmet covered his face and the chainmail started. Two remained as she pushed her legs further as they started to protest from the all the running.

Another scream filled the air as she looked back to see a knight being pulled into the trees by a piece of rope. Coming to a stop the one remaining knight panicked as she searched for the source of his comrades demise, seeing no sign his eye met hers as he switched his attention back to her. He only made one step towards her only for a dark blur to fall from the sky and land straight on top of him.

She heard the gurgles from the dying knight before the figure stood up straight over the now dead man on the ground with their arm held out to the side. She saw something she hadn't seen in years. A hidden blade. That weapon only belonged to a group of people she had grown up knowing about, she may have only met two of them personally

An assassin

But she didn't know this assassin. From their shapely figure she guesses it was a female assassin in front of her, but her robes were all wrong. Instead of their light appearance, that would envision hope. They were heavy in darkness as she watched as the blood covered blade slid back into its place. Her hand shook in fear as she slowly held out the dagger in her hand at the figure in front of her. The assassin started to turn to face her.

"Stop!" the assassin froze at the bandit's order "W-Who are you?!" she stammered. Slowly the assassin reached up to the hood that covered her head and pulled it down to reveal a mess of long red hair that went down her back in tight curls. A flash of recognition went through her eye at the red hair she hadn't seen in years. It was darker now the lightness had been snuffed out somehow as she stared as the woman turned around to reveal her face to her.

"Lia" she breathed out as she felt a sense of relief wash through her body. Tears stung in her eyes as she looks upon the older version of the young woman's that saved her and her father all those years ago.

The corner of her lips quirked up in a half smile to see the girl, now woman in front of her "Hello Snow" her voice had changed too, move gravely.

Dropping the dagger from her hand Snow's feet acted on their own accord as she marched towards the redhead that had once again saved her life enveloped the Assassin in a fierce hug pushing her head into the woman;s shoulder as she let out the sobs of grief and fear that had clouded her mind since her father's death. Hesitant arms returned the embrace as she held the young woman she left her father's palace as a Princess, only to find her as a bandit hiding from her step-mother.

"Come Snow, we need to talk"

After their bittersweet reunion Snow took the redheaded assassin to her Forest hideaway, a hollowed out trunk of a fallen tree for the heavy conversation she needed to hear from the young woman herself of why the Queen was after her. The one reason the Queen had given her was biased and vague , she needed to hear it from Snow's point of view to drawn a better conclusion on how she can keep the young woman away from Regina's clutches.

She listened closely over a bowl of broth that Snow had prepared. She explained how a genie from Agrabah the King had befriended had killed her father with a viper from his native land. it was only a few years later the Queen had made her first move against her, tasking the nameless (now heartless) Huntsman to kill her, only for the man to let her go. Now she was a wanted woman trying to evade every knight that would take her back to the Queen.

But the assassin saw she was struggling. As she listened to the young woman talk her eye's glazed over the hideout around her. It was basic in most form it could. It would probably last her the next six months at best, but she lacked the most basic survival skills she needed to outlive the Queen's thirst for vengeance. She needed to learn, and fast.

"I'm sorry about Leopold" she tells the younger woman in front of her "He was a good man" in their limited time together he was kind to her as she recovered from the injuries she endures getting Snow and Regina back to the palace, paired the stories Romeo recounted of the King and Queen, she knew that he was the innocent victim in this mess.

"Thank you Lia" Snow replied with a watery smile. It still felt surreal that the redhead was in front of her eyes, talking to her. She thought she would never see her again when she left. Reaching over the gap between them she grasped the woman's hand giving it a reassuring squeeze that she was really there.

"Amelia where have you been" she beseeches the redhead in front of her. She needed to know where she had been all these years, when her world turned upside down

"Away" she tells the young woman letting go of her hand

"I've tried getting in touch with my godfather, he's an assassin, but I haven't had any reply from him. I thought he'd be the first person to come to my father's funeral. Do you know where Master Montague is?" the redhead was taken aback by the question. Since re-taking Monteriggioni she had discovered the very public fallout of the secret Brotherhood. But they would have publicly announced a traitors execution, especially to royalty. Especially one of their own.

She didn't know he was gone.

"You really don't know" her words spilled from her lips quicker than she could control them

"Know what?" her head quirked to the side in as her brow's drew together in confusion

"He was killed four years ago" she informed the former Princess

"What?" she gasped is disbelief

"He was executed for treason against the Brotherhood" she gulped seeing Claudius's blade sink into her father's and master's chest all over again. Snow must have seen the sadness in her eye's as the memories flashed before her she had tried to block out,, but they had come back along with the re-occurring nightmare of John falling into the sea with a bullet hole in his stomach and her son being ripped from her arms.

"I'm so sorry" the bandit tells her "You must miss him"

"He's partly the reason why I came back" she pushes forward with the conversation, not wanting to speak about the man the lied to her all her life "I need to find my former brothers and make them pay for what they've done they aren't the knights in shining armor you think they are Snow. They were corrupt, greedy, power hungry"

"You want revenge" Snow easily deduced from the anger that left the redhead's lips, her heart broke for her childhood hero sat in front of her

"I don't expect you to understand but this is what I need to do. Romeo was only the start, anyone who got in their way were cut down, even innocents" the explained to the younger woman "My return to the Enchanted Forest came with a price" she tells the bandit moving part of her robes to show her the Queen's insignia that had been sewn into the set of robes

The look of horror come over her face seeing her step-mother's insignia "You work for her"

"I do, as means to an end. Through her and her resources I can achieve my vengeance. The last thing I want to do is for any harm to come to you"

"Then why did you come and find me"

"I came to help" she said "Regina's turn to darkness wasn't over night, I saw it even when I first met you, but she took the leap of faith into darkness. If she kills you, no one will be able to help her. I want to offer my help, I can teach you how to survive on your own and I can keep the Queen and her men two steps behind you"

"Why would you do that for me?"

"Because you're innocent"

Over the next year, in-between her work for the Dark One and The Evil Queen, the assassin would teach the bandit all sort of skills that would aid her in her survival in the often cruel world they lived in. She watched as the former Princess would quickly pick up using any weapon she would throw at her. One of the most surprising was her natural skill with a bow and arrow.

She taught her how to blend into a crowd to get away from knights that had recognized her, how to get away from them, all the while the assassin made sure the bandit was always two steps in front of the Queen whenever she got too close to finding her. The young woman had come leaps and bounds since re-uniting, as the redhead's own heart got darker and heavier each time she killed one of her former brother's.

Even as the former Princess picked up and ally or seven along the way, she knew she had the assassin behind her even. But she knew one day she would have to move on from the assassin helping her. There had been a couple of times the assassin risked being exposed by the Queen for helping her. They both knew what would happen to the redhead if Regina ever found out. Any affection that had grown for the redhead would evaporate at the betrayal.

Bot more importantly the assassin had taught her a skill that would help her find her true love, retake her Kingdom and the birth of her daughter.

Robbing an unsuspecting carriage

Years Later

She loved it when she got five minutes to herself. In between hunting down her former brothers and helping the Queen rid of Snow White and her followers she liked to walk the palace gardens. She remembered walking these same gardens with King Leopold, years ago. But that was then, and this is now.

She came across Regina's apple tree that grew tall and fruitful in the middle of the courtyard. Out of her assassin robe's she relaxed in her off white, blue and brown ensemble. Snow was no longer a problem for Regina as she had willingly eaten the cursed apple and her follows had given up their fight without their leader.

She came to a stop under the tree and reached up to pluck a shiny red apple off the branch and brought it to her nose to smell. In her time back in the enchanted forest she had never found an apple as delicious and sweet as those that grew on that very tree.

"Careful dear" Amelia heard the familiar voice approaching her, she looked up to see Regina devious smile as she waltzed towards her "They have a habit of sending my enemies into an endless sleep"

The assassin under employ smirked back at the Queen throwing the apple into the air, catching it in one hand "then I'm glad I'm not your enemy"

Regina close the distance between them and brought her face close to Amelia's as her noses grazed "There's still time. Unless I can persuade you to stay a bit longer that is"

A wide seductive smirk grew on the assassins lip as she was drawn to the Queen like a moth to a flame "I think I can stay a bit longer, but I think I may have to be persuaded just a little more" she teased the dark brunette as the red head close the distance between her and the Queen and captured her lip within her's in a searing kiss that made Regina reach up and hold the red head's face as Regina reciprocated the gesture as Amelia forgot about the apple and dropped it onto the ground as she round her arms around the Queen's waist drawing her closer into the embrace.

This was her heaven. Her perfect Eden, that's she wasn't going to give up on as she once did.

Then it came to an end as hurried footstep's made the pair end their embrace as the both turned to see a knight holding up a mirror that held the Genie.

"I told you never to disturb me out here" The Queen scolded the Genie making the Assassin step away from the Queen. The Genie was fully aware of the 'relationship' the pair had within the palace walls, but that didn't mean he wanted to bare witness to it.

"Trust me. I haven't disturbed you yet" The Genie told the pair "Just wait until you see this" the image in the mirror changed to Snow White fully awake with her Prince arm in arm along a stony beach.

"He woke her?" Regina spat angrily at the mirror

"Indeed. True love's kiss apparently can break any curse" he tells the Queen

The image continued as the Queen and her Black Widow watched the Prince go onto one knee in front of Snow "Will you marry me?" the Prince asked her lovingly

"What do you think?" Snow answered her Prince making the red head roll her eye's in disgust

"That will be one hell of a wedding" the Genie commented "There won't be a dry eye in the entire realm"

"Quiet!" the Queen ordered the Genie as they continued to watch the scene before them

"Let's take back the kingdom" Snow White tells her new fiance

"We'll see about that"

Snow White stood upon an empty cart in the middle of a village that was overshadowed by the Dark Palace that belonged to the Evil Queen. With her fiancé Charming by her side they worked together to gain enough support to fight the Queen and her Black Widow.

"The Evil Queen murdered my father, put me under a Sleeping Curse, but I am not the only one she has made to suffer" Snow spoke to the villagers with the dwarves nearby

"Yeah" the crowd responded

"She's terrorized us for far too long" Snow continued

"Yeah!" the crowd responded with energy

"This kingdom doesn't belong to her. It belongs to us!"

"Yeah!"

"So, who is ready to stand beside me and fight for what's rightfully ours?!" she finished but got no response from the villagers as they grew nervous about going up against the Queen.

"Tough crowd Princess!" Snow watched as the Black Widow emerged from the crowd. Snow glanced down at Charming in surprise as she silently asked him if he saw her there among the villagers, he quickly shook his head no as she turned back to face the Widow, she was wearing her signature black and red robes with her hood over her head as the townspeople coward away from the woman parting to let the Black Widow through.

"You almost had me picking up my own blades against the Queen with that speech" the Widow continued as she stepped closer to Princess upon the wagon "but alas our Queen is more useful to me alive"

"What are you doing here Widow?" Prince James demanded out of the woman with a hand on the hilt of his sword.

"A little birdie told me you were creating an army" Amelia glanced over to the crowd of townspeople that had gathered "Have to say, you could do better" she drawled out as the Evil Queen materializes behind the crowd

"Quite the courageous army you're building" The Evil Queen drawled out as the townspeople flee in fright while Snow White and her entourage do not move.

"They may be afraid of you, but we are not" Snow tells the pair

"Why? Because you and the shepherd broke my sleeping curse?" the Queen retorted

Snow White and Prince Charming draw their swords at the Queen and her Widow. Amelia didn't even flinch at the threat simple folding her arms across her chest as the Evil Queen magically binds Prince Charming with a rope

"Lucky for you, we didn't come here to fight" Amelia let out a huff of annoyance as the Queen stepped forward as she spoke to the Princess "I came to offer you a deal. Consider it an engagement present"

"Snow, don't listen to a single word!" James exclaimed but it was cut short as Amelia came from behind him suddenly holding the tip of her hidden blade to his throat as she took a handful of his leather tunic keeping his back straight holding him tight against her

"Say another word or the last thing she will hear is you with a sword in your gut" Amelia seethed into the Prince's ear making the man stop fighting against the ropes that bound his arms.

"Are you really gonna marry that?" the Evil Queen questioned the Princess

"What do you want?" Snow asked her former stepmother keeping a close eye on the blade that was on her true love's throat

"I want you to give up your claim to the throne. If you declare me the rightful ruler of this land, I'll let you, the dwarves, and your so-called prince escape back to the sheep farm he once called home"

"Exile?"

"Well, I've tried to kill you. My Black Widow has tried to kill you. I've tried to curse you, and none of its worked. But then I realized I was going about it all wrong. You need to be alive. You need to be awake. So, you can spend all your days knowing that I have taken everything that was supposed to be yours. Now get down on your knees and swear on your father's grave that this kingdom belongs to me"

"And if I don't?" Snow challenged the older woman

"Well, then someone will pay the price" The Evil Queen uses her magic to lift up one of the female villagers; choking her

"Stop!" Snow yelled at the woman with sword in hand. she charges at the Evil Queen, who disappears in a cloud of smoke with her Widow following suit at the last moment, dropping the village girl. Prince Charming breaks out of his binds, aiding the villager "Is she okay?" she asks after the woman

"Yeah" he confirms. Snow looks back to see that the Queen had returned with her Widow by her side

"Next time she won't be" the Queen tells her "You have until sundown tomorrow to give up the throne. And for every day that you defy me, I will kill one of your loyal subjects. Stop denying who you are, Snow White. You may have been a princess, but you will never be a queen"

The Black Widow sat opposite the Evil Queen as the carriage the next day back to the village, they had found Snow White in offering her the ultimatum of fight or flee. Deep down the red head wanted the woman to fight. But it would come for a price for the both of them. She wouldn't admit it to anyone, but the last few years had been draining on her.

Through the carriage window she saw that Snow and the Prince were already waiting for them with the former holding a sword in her hand as the carriage finally came to a stop. Letting herself out first she met the Princess's gaze with her hood completely off her head. She allowed the crowd behind them to see her face as she held out a hand for her Queen, allowing the Queen to step out. With folded arms the Black Widow hung back as the Queen the approached the pair.

"Well dear, have you packed your bags?" her step-mother asked her. Amelia watched as the young woman held her nerve as she stepped forward to face the Queen herself.

"I thought about your offer. And everything you said was true. I could go off with Charming and the dwarfs, and we could find some lovely corner of the world to live out our days, and it would be a wonderful life" she tells the Queen and her Widow "But I can't leave my people, not... with... you"

"Well, in that case..." the Queen reached out and used her magic to lift the dwarf Grumpy off ground by his throat as the others tried to bring him down only for Regina to force them away with her magic. The redhead watches the Princess closely as Charming tried to encourage his fiancée.

"Let him go!" Snow exclaimed as she ran at the Queen with her sword. At that the Widow made her move and rushed forward to meet the Princesses sword was her own as Regina disappears in a ploom of purple smoke. But Amelia wasn't quick enough to stop the Princess from swinging the sword as the Queen reappeared the edge of the sword catching her cheek leaving a shallow cut.

Shit. She was in trouble

The Widow stood in silent shock and wide eyes as she watched the Queen reach up and touch the injury to see the blood her enemy had drawn.

"You told me to stop denying who I really am. Well, that's exactly what I'm doing. This is my kingdom, and I will fight for it!"

"Then we'll see you on the battlefield. We'll be ready" at that the Evil Queen and the Black Widow disappear in purple smoke leaving the other's to celebrate their victory over the Queen

Snow White ate quietly next to her fiancé around a campfire later that evening with the dwarfs, after announcing her intentions of fighting back to reclaim her kingdom that her stepmother had taken from her as a young girl. She smiled to herself watching the dwarves chat among themselves laughing along with Charming. She knew just then that everything she promised would be worth it in the end.

Her momentary peace was disturbed when she saw a shadow go into one of the tents making the entrance flap in the air. But with no wind to explain the sudden movement. But the sudden familiar squawk from sky made her look up in apprehension. She was here.

"Snow?" Charming called out to her seeing her sudden uneasiness

Senu, the name of the eagle that flew above the camp let out another cry gaining the Princes and dwarfs attention as they looked up in the dusk sky. Snow heard Charming unsheathe his sword as stood up from his place recognising the bird of prey that followed the Black Widow wherever she went.

Placing her hand on his sword hand she gently pushed it down "It's okay" she reassures her fiancé "she just wants to talk" she tells him gently

"Snow, it's a trap" he started to protest as his fiancée walked into the tent to find the woman that had saved her and Regina all those years ago. Her red hair was darker falling in curls to her shoulders, her arms folded across her chest as she wore the uniform that symbolised her loyalties to the Queen.

"Hello Snow" the woman greeted her with a slight upturned lip

"Amelia" the Princess greeted in return knowing Charming was just outside. But she knew she was not here to kill her.

"Quite a show you put on back there" Amelia replied referring to Snow's declaration

"It wasn't a show" the princess tells her "I'm going to take back what's mine"

"And so, you should" the assassin tells her "But you know this sudden ...independence, comes with a price. Buy drawing the line in the sand and us on opposite side's you can't come to me or my allies anymore for aide"

"I know that, and I won't need it" she tells the woman the new found confidence from her small victory rolling off her person

"Good because you won't get it" the Widow tells the Princess as she start to stalk towards the younger woman "From this night any establishment I own will be ordered to capture you or your Prince on sight. Every mercenary, every thief, every tavern wench will contact me directly of your location, you won't be able to take a step in the entire realm without me knowing where or what you're doing. And that's goes for your little friends as well" she was barely a metre away from the Princess "Do we have an understanding, Princess?"

"We do" Snow replied keeping her gaze firmly on the with her head held up high in defiance and confidence she had grown over her fight with the Evil Queen.

Snow watched as a tight smirk grew on the Assassins face replacing her serious one "Good girl" Amelia sent a quick the younger woman a wink.

Throwing caution to the wind Snow enveloped the Assassin in a fierce hug holding her childhood hero as the red head did the same to the girl she once saved from mercenaries, so long ago. The red head held the young woman in arms for as long as she could as the Princess pushed her chin into the Assassin's shoulder.

"You don't have to do this Lia" Snow wept into the Assassins shoulder making the older woman hold her tighter

"I have to Princess" she said into the young woman's ear "it's the only way I can avenge them"

Snow had no idea who 'them' were but they were enough to force her to side with Regina "It's not too late" she pleaded once again. She could see the light that still remained behind her eyes whenever she saw them. The ones that would tell her that everything would be okay in the end.

"It already is" she already felt the darkness in her heart "See from the other side of the battlefield Princess" the temporary warmth that Snow felt disappears as saw a gaping hole in the back of the tent flap in the wind just as the Prince burst in through the front with sword in hand ready to face the Black Widow head on only to find his fiancé with a tear streak on her cheek.

Seeing danger Charming seethed his sword before turning to see his tear stained fiancée, taking her head in his hands he quickly scanned the woman he loved for any damage the Black Widow made before her escape "Snow? What did she do?"

"Nothing" she tells him with her voice breaking from the ache she felt in her heart from losing her friend once and for all "I was saying goodbye to my friend"

AN: Hello there!

Thanks for reading the first one-shot of The Hidden Tales of the Black Widow!

When I was planning this story and thinking what relationships my OC had with the others. Snow's relationship was one of the most important one's to include. So that's why its going to be the first one to be published. As I hope to go on I have plans to include some minor characters in their own one-shots.

The purpose of this was to add more to what i can't fit into the canon story (The Evil Queen's Black Widow) and the relationships that Amelia built upon her return to the Enchanted Forest and give readers a bit more insight to my OC.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
