The next year, six days before Olivia's birthday, she was confused to find little treats on her desk throughout the day: candy, a muffin, a cup of coffee. She thanked Elliot but didn't understand what they were for.

When she got into the car with Elliot, he handed her a wrapped package. "Happy Birthday, Liv," he said.

"Thanks. You know it's not actually my birthday, right?"

Elliot's eyes widened. "It's not? I thought it was February 1st!"

"It's February 7th," she responded, laughing.

"Shit, sorry, Liv. I must have misread my handwriting." She snickered. "I know, shocking." She handed him back the present. "I thought you were pretending to be confused because you didn't want anyone else to figure out it was your birthday. I'll try again on the correct day."

"What you did today was sweet. You don't have to do anything else."

On her actual birthday, she found treats throughout the day again, but they were different this time. A cookie, her favorite sandwich at lunchtime, some little chocolates in her drawer. When they were alone, Elliot handed her the same wrapped present again. She unwrapped it curiously and started laughing. "It's perfect for you," Elliot commented. It was a Wonder Woman figure, which she put immediately in the corner of her desk.

"Thank you, El," she said, smiling at him.

"Happy Birthday, Liv."
