NEXT UPDATE is on May 30 2022
Kaito was already sleeping when Ginzo arrived. That fact was slightly unnerving to the inspector, he knew that Kaito didn't like to sleep in unfamiliar locations. Ginzo glanced at Lapin before scooping Kaito up, the teen barely stirred at the action "I don't approve of tonight's events" He sighed. The burning of the Kudo mansion had made the news fast despite the late hour, probably because all of the residents were famous.
Lapin shifted nervously, picking up and folding Kaito's crutches. Kaito had removed them in order to rest better "A house can be replaced" He answered softly, following the inspector out the door. His parents would be able to reconstruct their house easily, and everything that couldn't be replaced had been removed.
Ginzo just clicked his tongue in annoyance "Paranoia isn't healthy" Maybe he should be more active in his search for a new therapist, Kaito's paranoia wasn't a good influence for the sleuth.
The sleuth didn't refute the comment, he only somewhat regretted burning his house down "Will he be okay tomorrow?"
"He'll be bed-bound except for his appointment"
Azure widened "He'll really be that bad?" Was Kaito's health frail? If so, why did the idiot insist on giving him his coat?! Lapin opened the van's door for them.
Ginzo shook his head, bending over to gently deposit Kaito into the back seat of the van "No, but I'll be taking his wheelchair and his pain med injections to make him stay put and actually heal" The inspector scowled as he checked Kaito's arm, it was more bruised than it'd been the last time he'd checked "Everything he needs will be brought to him" A lot of people would enjoy that, but Kaito preferred to be independent when able.
"Oh..." That didn't seem fun, but there were worse punishments.
"I think he'll stay grounded for at least a week" Ginzo added as he bucked up Kaito's seat belt "Which means that you'll have to wait a bit to be introduced at the station"
Ah, so he was being punished too... "Alright" Lapin took a seat in the back. Arson was technically a crime, so he'd accept the consequences.
Ginzo just hummed, getting in and starting the car once the two of them were buckled up "I know that Kaito is really good at making himself sound reasonable, especially when he believes that he's right" Kaito was good with words, almost too good "But just because it seems to make sense, it doesn't always mean that it was a good idea. He sighed "Just please think about things before doing something drastic" Not even a week, and chaos has already started.
Lapin frowned "I'll try" He could see where the inspector was coming from. They had acted on the idea of burning his house quite quickly.
The inspector just let out another sigh "Well for your own sake, I hope you don't end up regretting tonight's actions"
The rest of the drive home was mostly silent, and Ginzo was quick to get the sleeping Kaito situated before turning in for the night. Lapin found sleep surprisingly easy to embrace that night.
Morning brought with it a fever, but it wasn't bad enough to keep him from missing his appointment. It was a very important one, so a medical mask would keep his germs to himself.
He was fond of his doctor, it wasn't . The doctor had been skilled enough to take care of him, but had kinda creeped Kaito out. The guy was into angels and stuff, which was fine, but he'd also had a weird glint in his eye whenever they'd talked about his strange healing.
Thankfully, the doctor's understudy had clicked well with him. was a very new doctor, but also very passionate and considered a prodigy within the medical field. had originally opted not to specialize in anything too much, preferring to gather a greater variety of knowledge instead. That is until he met Kaito during his work study. Kaito's drive and determination had ended up inspiring Kusama, prompting him to delve deeper into neuroscience and methods of physiotherapy. The thought of getting people to walk again had been enough to awe Kusama.
Kaito didn't need much surgery-wise, his healing was weird like that. His spinal cord needed to be re-damaged and heal by itself. Any prompting to get it to heal a certain way... Well it was almost as if his healing suddenly decided to say 'Go fuck yourself'... It was annoying, and resulted in lots of confusion. Magic sucked. The only good thing was that due to the simplicity of the procedure, a very experienced doctor wasn't required. It was basically all up to luck.
was a quick study though, and very conscientious, always searching for ways to make each recovery better than the last. Since his nerves were being re-grown, the aftermath always left Kaito uncomfortable, forcing him to retrain his body so that he didn't soil himself. It was actually rare that he was confident enough to be without a catheter since training the body took time, time that could be spent on another attempt instead.
There was no longer a bullet wound scarring Kaito's back, said injury was covered by intensive scarring from the many operations he'd undergone. had once told him that he wouldn't normally allow the scar tissue to build up like it had, instead opting to spread it out. His situation was unique though, they didn't know just how far the healing worked along the spinal cord. Trying to cut in another location could result in a total loss, they were dealing with magic, so he was scared to risk it since Kaito actually had a chance for full recovery if things went well. Kaito had agreed with the decision, it would probably ache once he was healed, but being able to walk would be worth the future pain.
He was excited for the consultation, and then later surgery. It could end up as a failure, or it could work. Even the painful results were considered a success in his eyes. Even if the random muscle contractions had resulted in him kicking people that really hadn't deserved it.
