"He'd kill the captain."
Everyone's head spun around to face the entrance of the gymnasium. Kitsune could feel her breath tighten as she observed the figure in the doorway. Her eyes widened in terror as she hid behind Kuroo, who protectively stood up tall and glared at the captain of Aoba Johsai.
"Oi. What do you want?" Kuroo sneered. Daichi stood by his side, narrowing his eyes and shielding Kitsune from the Grand King.
"Nothing, nothing. I came to return this to my girlfriend." He held out a hairpin, the same one that had hooked onto Akaashi's jersey.
"Tooru. We're over." She growled unconsciously. "I'm sorry, but please go away."
Maybe it was her voice, maybe it was her frightened look. He felt his heart crack, as he tossed the hairpin to her. She caught it lightly, maintaining her frown. "We got the fangirls who bullied you. They won't hurt you or your family, I promise. Could you please come back to me? Please?" Oikawa averted his gaze.
"Tooru." The hiss in her voice made him look back at her. She stepped out from behind Daichi and Kuroo, looking the maddest she'd ever been.
"How fucking dare you. How fucking dare you think I broke up with you because of what your dumbass fangirls said or threatened? I hate confrontation, you know this. But look at yourself. The minute I'm out of your arms, you pay attention to me. But whenever I asked if you wanted to go out while I was your girlfriend, it was always, sorry, I have volleyball practice! It would have been fine if it happened once or twice. But you have given me this excuse 17 fucking times last month.
"Call me petty, but I would also love to have spent some time alone with you! Clearly Nationals was more important to you than me, was I wrong? Please just stop. We've been friends for almost 10 years, and you still think I'm simple-minded."
She grabbed his collar with her fists and slapped him hard across the face. His teary expression stung her in the heart more than anyone watching could've imagined.
"I was going to move to Tokyo either way. Staying in a relationship with you is nothing short of painful, especially when it means you'll forget about me when I'm not there! Don't you get it?! I broke up with you out of my own will, not purely because of your fangirls. So stop. Doing. This."
She let go of his collar with vigour, panting heavily. She turned away from him, exhausted by the confrontation. Kuroo dragged her back by the shoulders, in case she really tried to go all Kyuubi on the captain of Aoba Johsai, ripping his arms off with her bare teeth and all. She buried her face in his chest, grabbing his jersey, tears of anger flowing down.
"You are from Aoba Johsai, right? Please go back to your school. I'm sure they're looking for you." Coach Nekomata looked sternly at Oikawa, Coach Ukai standing next to him and nodding.
"Ah." Oikawa's face was stained with shock from her outburst. "Kyuubi, I'm not giving up. Take care of her, okay, Rooster-head?" With that, he walked away from Nekoma High School.
"I told you it wouldn't work." Akaashi glared at Iwaizumi, who was still grasping the back of his shirt. "Let go of me. If you two ever come back here again, I'll have a restraining order placed against you two." Akaashi glared at them, before storming back off to Fukurodani.
"My god, what'd you do, Shittykawa?"
"Well she basically said she hates me and I didn't spend enough time with her." Oikawa rubbed the back of his head, disappointed.
"Sorry man, but what did you expect?" Iwaizumi shook his head. "You know she's been a little self-depreciative ever since the incident."
"He stared at his white leg brace and groaned, face in his palms. Silent tears rolled down his face and dropped into his cupped hands. "Kyuubi~ What am I supposed to do without you?" He whispered in the air.
Back in Nekoma:
"Kitsune-kun, are you sure?" Tanaka raised an eyebrow.
"Tanaka-senpai is right, Kitsune-niisan, don't force yourself." Yachi hugged onto her stepsister tightly.
Kuroo, Kenma, Yaku and Yamamoto nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, it'll clear my head." She smiled, tears running down her cheeks. She grabbed her bag and with a promise to return the next day, she bid farewell to the Karasuno team with hugs and tight squeezes for Kiyoko, Yachi, Hinata and Kageyama. "I'm really sorry for letting my personal life intrude on your training camp!" She bowed deeply as she walked out of the door.
And headed straight for the archery range.
