Chapter 2:
The look on her face was pure terror, for a moment as she followed him out of the stable. "I might have hit my head a little too hard, for a second, I thought you said your horse, but the captains not due back for at least another-"
"I got back last night." interrupted Levi, looking back at her with a scowl while they quickly headed towards where the squads were doing fighting drills.
The girl was in complete panic mode as she followed him to her impending doom. First she didn't recognize Captain Levi. In her defence she'd never seen him in person because she arrived there just after he had left for headquarters on his recent mission.
Secondly, when the jerk who borrowed the Captain's horse found out that she'd accidentally thrown him under the bus to the Captain he was going to be so pissed off at her. She could only imagine the pranks and treatment she was going to get after this fiasco. She was so distraught while following the captain as she tried to figure out how to smooth the situation over. She ended up fumbling her footing and face planting on the grass.
The captain heard a yelp from behind him, and turned around to see the girl on her knees struggling to stand up with blood pouring out of her nose.
"Oi brat maybe you did hit your head too hard" he deadpanned, but not before grabbing onto her forearm helping her to her feet in one swift yank. He then startled her when he grabbed her face in his hands with his eyes intensely focusing on her features.
He gently pressed the bridge of her nose. "Does it hurt where I'm pressing?"
"No, it feels alright." She blinks, having a hard time looking away from his steely gaze.
Eventually, he roughly let go of her face, and he handed her a handkerchief from his pocket. "Well I don't think it's broken, but you did manage to get blood all over my shirt ." Levi sighs looking down at his stained shirt in disgust.
"I'm sorry Captain Levi. I'll get the stain out for you." she apologized.
"Save it saddle girl, be thankful there's someone else I'm more pissed off at today."
They continued to their destination: the training grounds, and it only took a matter of seconds for Levi to figure out who'd been stealing his horse. Almost immediately he could see the fear on one of the cockier new recruits' faces, not even needing the help of the girl from the stable. Levi decided as punishment the dumb ass soldier would have to sleep in the stable with the horses for a month since he liked god damn horses so much.
Not that Levi would ever admit it out loud, but he did feel a little bad for the girl who was fixing his saddle. She was definitely going to get some backlash for ratting out a comrade even if she didn't technically do it on purpose.
She insisted that she would take his shirt and handkerchief to clean them, which he agreed was fair, but thought she probably wouldn't be able to get the bloodstain out. He figured he'd let her waste her time trying as an added little punishment for wrecking his shirt. She followed him to his office where he usually had an extra change of clothes.
She was standing in the doorway of his office as he bent down to open a cupboard beside his desk.
"Obviously you're newer to the Survey Corps" the captain started unbuttoning his sullied shirt. Slowly exposing his muscular skin. "You got a name?" he asked but she was so distracted by his exposed skin that the question didn't even register.
He looked up to see why she wasn't answering his question. Oddly she was looking right at him, but as soon as he looked up from undoing his buttons, her eyes darted away.
"Unless you want me to continue to call you saddle girl" he teased.
She laughed nervously.
Levi couldn't put his finger on it, but he had a harder time being his usually gruff self with this girl. He realized it was probably seeing her injure herself multiple times today. It was like she was doing his job for him. He was positive he'd never even have to punish her in the future, she'd just beat him to it. Hell, she'd tripped up the stairs on their way to his office; a girl who seriously had two left feet.
"No Sir, my name is Ivy Andrews." she finally replied. She was surprised that the Captain with such a gruesome reputation for violence could be almost playful.
"Well Andrews, I guess you better get back to work. Not only do ya have to fix my saddle, but now you've got bloodstains to deal with."
