Sophie's POV
"Wake up!" A voice said, followed by snickers.
Sophie scrambled awake.
"Hey, when did you lovesick birds get a fan? And two windows?"
Beside her, Keefe also woke up and sat up. "Oh, morning, Mommy Dearest, did you have a good sleep? Those shadows under your eyes mean that you have been worrying about my sleep, am I right?
Sophie squeezed his hand.
He relaxed a bit. "You don't have to worry about me, I'm fine," he reassured her.
"I know. You try to be."
"Oh? So you mean I'm not good at hiding my feelings?"
Sophie smirked. "Ask that to Ro."
Keefe smiled at her. "Okay, I get it."
"Crazy Lovesick couple! You are not alone, you know! It is not a time for a Keephie moment. We need you for something, so hurry up and change!" Lady Gisela shouted. "We have no wardrobe," Keefe pointed out.
Gisela flushed a deep pink. "Then follow me. And why is the Moonlark sleeping in your room?"
It was Sophie's turn to blush. (We have no 'turn' to blush, the narrator- I know, but that's what people in books do. and hey, get back to the story! you're not supposed to talk!)
"I, um, couldn't sleep," Sophie mumbled.
Gisela raised her eyebrows. "So you slept with my son?"
Keefe and Sophie burned a bright pink. "Uh, none of your business," Keefe said, staring at the ground.
Gisela laughed. "If you want dating tips, I could help you!" Gisela sounded childish now.
"I could also brush your hair if you like, with my all-brand hairbrush..."
"GISELA!" Ruy shouted. "SNAP!"
Gisela blinked a few times. "R-right then," she mumbled. "I need you to come with me. And don't you dare try to escape," she added quickly. "I have soldiers surrounding us. Don't ask," she said.
Keefe and Sophie got out of bed. They followed lady Gisela in so many lefts and rights that Sophie didn't remember.
There were also lots of rocks that they had to jump over.
I wonder if my family is safe and if my friends are safe.
Sophie was so lost in thought she hadn't noticed when lady Gisela warned them about something.
"Could you repeat that?" She asked her.
Lady Gisela didn't answer.
She found out a moment later when her feet slipped on something cold and smooth. The other members didn't slip. They were wearing some kind of shoes... "Augh!" she yelped as she fell.
Keefe caught her. "Whoa, Foster," he said, "That's ice."
"Excellent."
"Don't worry. I've got you." Her heart flipped into hummingbird mode. She smiled at her. "Thanks."
He smiled back.
"Keefe! Moonlark! You are not alone!"
Sophie's face burned.
She rushed forward, slipped, and fell into Keefe's arms again. "Sorry," she mumbled.
Lady Gisela sighed. She handed Sophie a special pair of shoes, but different from the Neverseen's. It was a kind of shoe that makes her feet kind of 'stick' onto the ice, to prevent her from falling.
"GISELA! RUY! GETHEN! HELP!" A different voice shouted from ahead of them.
"Alright, back to your room, lesson's over," Gethen said as Ruy shouted "COMING, TRIX" and hurried ahead.
Gethen ushered them to their rooms and rushed with Lady Gisela.
Keefe looked outside their window and looked outside. Outside, it was snowing. Keefe's eyes widened. "It's-" "What?" Sophie asked. Keefe pointed to the window. "It's snowing!"
"So?"
"When I was in the forbidden cities, I heard about something about Christmas."
"Cool."
"No, you don't get it! a sign said that this year's Christmas is going to start when it snows!"
Now Sophie's eyes widened. "Oh! Um, Merry Christmas, Keefe!"
Keefe was practically bouncing on his toes. "I've got you a present," he said as he fumbled with his porch.
"You did?"
"Yup!"
He pulled out a box.
"Oh my gosh, Keefe - it's so beautiful..." It was a red box, with brown and icy blue swirls, coming together to make a heart.
Her eyes welled with tears. They slid down her cheek.
Keefe brushed it away. "Don't be so surprised yet - that's not all," he said. "Open it."
Sophie couldn't bring herself to, so Keefe did it for her.
Inside, there was-
A gallery of pictures, one of the flight (Exile), one of them in the boat, (Nightfall), and one of 'the thing' (Legacy). Beneath all the pictures, there was a card: it was swirly just like the box, and on the card, it said Together and there was a swirly necklace that looked like the box and the card, only with the heart.
Sophie's eyes filled with fresh tears. "I-"
"No need to thank me.' he smirked.
Sophie dropped the box and hugged him.
"Thank you anyway," she said through tears. He hugged her back.
"...May go into the cave next to them," Sophie heard a voice say. It was lady Gisela's voice. "And then, you'll be with us. okay. Now go," "Who do you think she's meaning?" Sophie asked, breaking free.
"I don't know. And, are you going to put it on?"
"Oops. Sorry."
She put the beautiful necklace on.
"Thank you," she repeated. "I've never had anyone care that much about me, except my parents. And..."
And Fitz. "But he wasn't right for me," she added quickly.
"Yep. Y'know, he's with chandelier."
Smiling, Sophie rolled her eyes.
"Let's go see what mommy Dearest has planned for us," Keefe said.
"Oh, um, and I'm sorry. I don't have a present for you."
"You already gave me everything I need to survive this."
Taking his hand, they walked out.
"Could it be another member of the Neverseen? That'll be bad. What if it's one of our friends? What if-" "Relax, Foster. We'll get through this. Together." Sophie smiled at him. "Okay," she said, "let's go."
They stepped out of Keefe's cave (Or was it their cave?) and peeked into the cave next to Keefe's (Theirs?).
"Biana!"
"Sophie? Keefe?"
Biana rushed out of her cave. "Oh, you're both here!"
She hugged them. "How long have you been here?"
"I have no idea," Sophie truthfully answered.
"Oh, Sophie, Keefe, you don't know how worried everyone was! You should've seen Grady and Edaline. They looked soo messed up."
Her heart sank. They were probably losing sleep, but she was fine!
"W-well... I might know how to contact them..." Keefe mumbled.
"Really? How?"
He pulled an imparter out of his pocket.
"You've been hiding that from me all along? Was that how you knew I was captured?" "Please," he said. "Please don't be mad."
"Wait, What. Is. That?" Biana asked, pointing to her necklace. "It's pretty. I like it."
Sophie covered it with her hand. "It's nothing." she looked away to stop herself from looking at Keefe's very hurt expression. She didn't think that she might recover from his expression.
Keefe looked away too.
Biana shrugged. "O-k," she said, studying them.
"So, can you call Grady, Keefe?"
"Sure... Grady," He whispered into his imparter. Grady's face flashed on his screen.
"So, did you find my daughter? Is she safe? Sophie!" Grady shouted as Sophie went on the screen. "Grady," she whispered.
"Grady? Who are you talking t- Sophie!" Edaline said as she caught sight of Sophie.
"Mom and dad... how are you? I messed you so, so much."
"We've missed you too, kiddo," Grady whispered. "You don't know how much. Please come back soon."
"I will," she said. "As soon as possible."
She looked at Keefe, Biana, and Fitz coming out of the tunnel, she added, especially looking at Keefe, "Together."
