He found Roran in the barn.
His relief was short-lived as he quickly reminded himself that he had trouble finding him in the first place.
The smell of manure and hay was pungent. The other boy didn't seem to notice that he was no longer alone. That was fine by Eragon who was looking up at him with a barely there smirk on his face as he sneaked up on the older boy. He could hear strange sounds but ultimately ignored it as that wasn't a part of the plan brewing within the younger's mind right now. Roran's face was hidden in his arms. Perfect.
He climbed the ladder, crept up to his side, and—
"Bah!" he yelled, jumping onto the boy.
Roran jumped near a foot in the air out of his skin. Impressive considering he was lying down.
"Eragon!" roran roared indignantly.
Eragon snickered. "You should be paying attention," he scolded the older boy. On numerous occasions Eragon had told him that he shouldn't let his guard down. Especially while in the forest.
Roran didn't answer.
Eragon tilted his head, noting the streaks of liquid on the other's face. "What is it?"
Roran turned away from him without answering.
Eragon frowned. "Roran?"
Nothing.
Thick eyebrows furrowed.
