Moon sat in Herbs & Healing, studying a scroll on the anatomy of a dragon when she cried out in agony. A searing pain shot through her head, like a vision headache but… different.
"Moon!" yelped Clay, dropping the chalk he was using to write on the board. "Are you okay?"
Moon crumpled down and curled up into a ball, clutching her head in her talons.
She screamed from the torturous feeling, and the world fell away from around her.
On the other side of the school, Qibli and Winter sat together in their cave, working on a group project together.
Qibli felt the discomfort first, lightly shaking his head as if to shake water out of his ears.
Winter gave him an odd look. "What in the world are you doin- ARGH!"
The IceWing prince thwacked his head with his tail, wrapping his wings around himself.
Qibli wanted to make a snarky comment about proper manners and etiquette, but he was too enveloped in the pain to take notice of Winter's anguish.
Suddenly, Winter collapsed to the ground and went limp.
Qibli reached out a trembling talon toward his friend, but could barely do anything through the excruciating pain.
Darkness crawled at the edge of his vision, and a moment later he fell to the floor, unconscious.
Kinkajou had just lain down for suntime when she abruptly sat up, accidentally whacking Coconut with her wing.
"Ow," he mumbled.
"Wow," muttered Kinkajou, wincing. "Ouch. That hurts. My head! Ow! Wow, that hurts." She gingerly touched a claw to her head, squeezing her eyes shut and trying not to cry out.
She felt an odd sense of weightlessness, and when she opened her eyes, there was nothing but empty, black space meeting her.
Peril leaned forwards to read the history scroll in front of her, careful not to touch it.
Turtle sat nearby, scribbling out words on their history homework as Peril read aloud the scroll.
"At about 2800 A.S., it is rumored that the current IceWing queen was kidnapped by a SkyWing while she was on a political mission. She escaped from the SkyWing weeks later and declared war on the SkyWings. The reason for the kidnapping is lost to history."
Turtle scratched down notes furiously, dipping his claw in the black inkwell every few seconds. "Geez, Peril," he exclaimed. "You read fast. And learn fast, too. You picked up reading pretty easily. I mean, I always thou-"
There was a loud THUMP and a clanging sound. Dark ink leaked over Peril's talons, bubbling from her firescales.
Peril glanced up. "Turtle?"
She gasped, startled at the fact that her SeaWing friend was nowhere to be found. The inkwell had tipped over and spilled black ink everywhere, drenching the paper Turtle had been writing on.
"Turtle?!"
She whirled around in a circle, her eyes darting around frantically. Her tail brushed their homework, and the piece of parchment went up in flames.
Peril's head began to throb violently. She blinked rapidly and tapped her head with her claws.
"Oorgh," she murmured. "Ow. Ouch. Uuuugh."
She wrapped her wings tightly around herself, thrashing her tail.
Why did her head hurt SO BAD and WHO COULD SHE BURN TO MAKE IT STOP.
Moments later, Peril slumped forward and her vision darkened.
Annabeth was walking along the canoe lake when the storm hit.
It had been a bright, sunny, beautiful summer day, and she'd decided to take a break from working and take a calming stroll.
A strong gust of wind blew at her, nearly knocking her into the lake. Another blast of air hit her from the opposite direction, blowing her hair in her face and throwing her off balance.
Dark storm clouds filled the air, blotching out the sun.
Thunder boomed and lightning crackled through the sky.
A thick funnel of wind made its way out of the sky towards the camp.
How… Annabeth was beyond confused. The camp was protected by the gods themselves; nothing uninvited got in. Certainly not the weather, seeing as the king of the gods himself was the god of the sky.
The tornado touched down, and a huge explosion of air and thunder blew Annabeth back.
Then, as soon as it had come, it was gone.
Curiosity got the better of her, and she ran over to where the column of air had hit.
There was a circle of flattened grass, and in the middle of it stood six people.
