Chapter 02: Lost And Found
"Hello…um…sorry for the gunshots they were trying to kill me…I…yes…I'm Shannon Elizabeth Severide Rhodes and…um...is there somewhere private we can talk?" She nervously said as she tried to dismount her bag and winced in pain but braved through it and took out her wallet and showed him her ID to prove her creditability for now.
He stared at her and her ID suspiciously.
"Conference room, follow me." Gibbs said monotones voice and she nodded as she carried her stuff in her arms trying to ignore the new droplets of blood trickling down her arm and staining her dress shirt and her principal's scarf.
She will have to replace it somehow…was she going to be mad?
"How did you heard of me, Miss Rhodes?" Gibbs asked her suspiciously and Shannon sighed as she took out the DNA box and her phone looking through photos and some photos from her wallet.
"Um…grand-uncle Jackson and grandpa Paul always said if it came down to life or death situations and I was in the DC area to always contact you because of who you are to my mum." She said hesitant and afraid as she pushed everything towards him and sat standing near a wall getting ready for a negative reaction.
It was quiet, too quiet, she could hear the noise from the Navy yard and wondered if those shooters were arrested or killed for a few seconds as cold sweat and blood kept pouring down her hands and back.
She didn't move but she started feeling cold and hot and dizzy but she blinked and shook her head trying to focus her sight to Gibbs but the edges were getting blurry.
Fuck blood loss! She forgot about that part! How could she forget about blood loss after being daughter of a surgeon and granddaughter of a nurse and a medical examiner! Shameful!
"Agent Gibbs?" She hesitantly tried to get his attention but the last thing she saw was his tearful gaze before she collapsed and everything went black.
Agent Gibbs when he woke up today he didn't expect to get a granddaughter or his daughter back or at least to learn she was alive all these years but in hiding. But here he was just in the middle of a case and here she was!
Now he's staring at her on a medical table as Jimmy Palmer was taking care of her gunshot wounds and choking mark. While he held her phone with photos of her and her parents, of his daughter and her husband and granddaughter.
He was a grandpa now!
"Can you run a DNA test or get Kasey to run it?" Gibbs asked suspiciously and deeply concerned.
"Sure, Gibbs, I'll tell her to put a rush on it. Are we sure she's your granddaughter? Because if you ask me you two do look alike but I haven't met Kelly so I can't say for sure…" Jimmy Palmer rambled nervously and excited as he finished up and then looked at Gibbs' glare and stopped as he stored the one of the two bullets so Kasey could extract the DNA match.
"Do you need my blood too?" Gibbs asked Palmer ignoring Palmer's ramble and raised his sleeve and extended his hand as Jimmy started the blood extraction.
"This girl really put up a fight, Gibbs, she has bruised ribs that looked to be over 17 hours according to the bruising pattern and the same goes for the choking bruise." Palmer said concerned as he took Gibbs' blood and Gibbs studied the girl who was still unconscious.
It was couple minutes later when her phone rang and Kelly's picture with a teenage Shannon with Kelly dressed in her firefighter's formal attire and Shannon dressed in a sleeveless neck tied white gown and they were smiling and the big white letters wrote; "MOM" on it.
"Woah, a firefighter, huh?" Jimmy said in an admiring tone as he finished storing Gibbs' blood and his supplies.
"Former firefighter…where am I? DID I DIE? AM I A GHOST NOW?" A disorientated voice of Shannon surprised them but her screamed made them run to her to stop her from jumping off the medical table.
"NO! You're not dead or ghost, calm down! You fainted because of the blood loss from your wounds!" Gibbs exclaimed over her panicking state and tried to calm her down.
"Oh!" Shannon said embarrassed and looked at her phone.
"Mum called? I have to let her know I'm okay." Shannon said disorientated and took her phone and tried to unlock it but Gibbs grabbed her phone out of her hands.
"Hey!"
"I have some questions before you call your mum." Gibbs said and Shannon nodded.
"Fair enough. Shoot…well don't I got shot enough for a lifetime. Thank you very much!" Shannon said as she tried to sit more comfortable.
"How did your mum…Kelly…survived?" Gibbs asked her and she sighed.
"She was wrongfully diagnosed as dead, when grandpa Paul opened her body bag and tried to wipe the blood and start his autopsy he felt her pulse and then mum woke up and freaked out. Grandpa Paul was the medical examiner in her case and grandma Mandy called her brother grand-uncle Jackson to pull some string with the FBI, he is a retired FBI agent Jackson Comar. Then she and my grandparents were put in witness protection after mum told them about the cartel and they left for Chicago where mum had her name legally changed to Ann Kellina Severide." Shannon said in a hesitant and awkward tone as she studied the floor and waited for any audible sign of Gibbs' reaction but got nothing but silence. So in hopes of igniting some sort of reaction or told anything she kept talking.
"She then joined the Fire House 51 after she graduated the Firefighting Academy but got hurt during a call and almost died, she broke her leg and hand but the most serious injury was her head, it took almost three years of physiotherapy to come back from it. She then joined the ATF and became a Special Agent Ann Rhodes. She met dad at his sister's birthday party two years before I was born. They got married when I was four years old after dad came back from his one year medical residency in Riyadh and surviving a train crash, mum and her firehouse saved him according to grandma Mandy who helped him stitch up when he arrived at Med, the hospital, it was grandma Mandy's last year in the hospital before becoming a retired nurse and full time grandma. She's the best! I want to be as cool as her when I become a grandma." She rambled as she looked at her hands and her phone and avoided looking at Gibbs but in the end she turned upwards and faced him.
He was silent.
"I was born in the very same firehouse grand-uncle Benny and Uncle Kelly were and are working at, my mum's boss Uncle Boden became my godfather, he taught me how to box." She kept talking and yet more silence followed.
"He was Navy SEAL apparently…mum named me after her mum and my dad's mum and a dear friend of theirs that died when I was 10 because both of them lost their mothers very young although mum called grandma Mandy mum but we all know it's not the same."
"Mum planted a rose bush in our backyard in honor of grandma Shannon and she sometimes talks to it."
"Uncle Kelly was named Kelly because they expected a girl instead of a boy by the way." Shannon spoke in hopes to fill the awkward silence spewing random family facts in hopes for a reaction out of Gibbs.
She got nothing but silence before Gibbs stormed out of the morgue leaving Shannon confused.
"Did I say something wrong?" Shannon asked obliviously. She was getting too tired of this, she wished everything stopped so she can rest and think.
"I believe Agent Gibbs finds too much the fact his daughter survived and had all this other full life without him while he was left alone with only grief. I would feel the same way if my daughter, Victoria, did the same." Palmer told Shannon wisely and she nodded ashamed.
"Grandpa Paul warned me of the results it might have…what do I do to fix this? Two fellow agents of my mum's team are out there probably shot and dying and whoever is trying to kill me is still out there…who do I speak now that Agent Gibbs wants time to process? And understandably so but what do I do?" She asked confused and lost as she held her phone once again.
"Call your mum. And we go from there. I'm sure Agent Gibbs will be back." Palmer said encouragingly.
Shannon called her mum and told her everything, her mum wasn't happy but Shannon was crying wishing her mum was with her.
"It was a mistake coming here, mama, Principal Campbell was wrong, I should have stayed in Chicago and maybe Agent Choi and Simmons wouldn't be missing and possibly hurt or my classmates being in danger or those people in the Navy yard…oh Agent Torres he was hurt too! Mum what do I do? Agent Gibbs just up and left too overwhelmed with everything…what do I do? Have you heard of Agent Choi and Simmons?" She asked worried and was rambling full on panic.
"Breathe! Breathe! Have you received medical care?" Kelly said as she too tried not to show the panic in her.
"Yes."
"Alright, I will try to contact Agent Choi and Simmons, we have been working the evidence and Voight and his team have been a huge help along with your statement. We don't know if it has to do with the document you signed or it's just one of your grandpa's failed business deals gone wrong and they wrongfully or out of spite target you since you are the future heir to the company and estate. I will let you know if anything changes, eat and drink something and don't overtire yourself. I would suggest a nap but I know you and you won't nap until this case is sealed but try if you're safe. I love you and I'm so sorry you got wrapped into this, sweetie." Kelly said from her side in a motherly concerned tone.
Shannon was crying again as she nodded and wiped her tears.
"Sure mum…I love you and I'm sorry for all of this…I really am. You can ground me later if that makes everything better…I'm sorry…" Shannon sobbed on the phone and hugged her legs and rested her head on top of them.
Mother and daughter closed the phone by exchanging last love you's and goodbyes and Shannon just remained in that position and started sobbing because while she called her mum Palmer stepped out to give her some privacy.
She was alone in the dark.
"It's not your fault." Gibbs' voice made her jump.
"Jesus fucking Christ! I need my heart, Agent Gibbs, I'm not a Time Lord to have two hearts I only have one! Jesus! How long have you been standing here?" Shannon exclaimed holding her chest and looked at the entrance where Gibbs' silhouette was drawn by the light of the entrance of the morgue.
"Does Kelly allow you to curse like that?" Gibbs asked her and she sighed.
"No, I put five bucks in the curse jar. But I had the worst two days so give me a break. What do we do next?" Shannon said angrily as she wiped her tears and then asked Gibbs about the next step of all of this.
Palmer had found him in the bullpen while he was sitting staring at the DNA papers Shannon had brought.
"Gibbs." Palmer started to say but Gibbs eyes shot him a glare before he stood up and he walked over the stairs that led to MTAC and Vance's office and Sloane's office.
"No one learns of this until Kasey has the DNA results until then she's just a girl whose case will be handed back to ATF once the DNA comes negative." Gibbs said in disbelief.
"Seriously, Gibbs? With all the respect I have for you the photos weren't enough? You have the same eyes too!" Jimmy exclaimed a little louder than it was meant to come out. He couldn't believe his eyes or ears how Gibbs was so quick to reject the girl in the morgue even with photos and DNA samples.
"She's not anything yet, Palmer!"
"Yes she is, she's a kid that went through something traumatic, something no one deserves to go through, I left her down there to talk to her mum, your daughter, and I heard her crying, apologizing for all of this when in reality it's not her fault. I bet 24 hours ago she was just worrying if her crush likes her back or not but now, she's been shot twice, beat up and attempted to be murdered three times and as adults we owe it to her to protect her even if she's isn't your grandchild but she's someone else's grandchild, someone else's child and you know the pain of losing a child don't let her parents share the same pain as you! We are in a position that we can try to help her!" Jimmy pretty much scolded him and Gibbs was shocked. Jimmy never dared to speak to him like that.
After that Jimmy left him and went to Kasey.
"Kasey! How is DNA going?" Jimmy asked and Kasey just glared at him.
"The dumbest DNA test ever but the interesting part is that the girl is half a Gibbs half a Rhodes and they are pretty wealthy!" Kasey said as she showed him the photos of Shannon Rhodes at various high end parties with her grandpa by her side or other wealthy kids from either Chicago scene or New York scene.
"They're old money, Jimmy. And she's very pretty and pretty clean! She hasn't been arrested." Kasey said seriously and impressed.
"Wow!" Jimmy said amazed.
"Kasey, news?" Gibbs asked as he walked into Kasey's lab, former Abby's lab.
"Yes, she's your granddaughter and her mum is your daughter." She said smiling and showed him her photos.
"Any children pictures from her mum?" Gibbs asked her still suspicious.
"No, she kept out of cameras but in school and during her time in Fire Academy days she stopped hiding." Kasey said as she pulled up the pictures. Gibbs studied that pictures and tears in his eyes.
It was Kelly alright!
Gibbs saw pictures of his daughter with Justin Voight, Connor Rhodes (her husband), Vicky Glass, Ethan Choi, Jeff Manning (Natalie Manning late husband and baby daddy), April Saxton, Kelly Severide, Will Halstead, Jay Halstead, Erin Lindsey, Antonio Dawson, Gabriella Dawson, Matt Casey, Brian "Otis" Zvonecek, Katie Nolan Severide, Joe Cruz, Leslie Shay, Chloe Allen-Cruz (Joe Cruz's wife) and Sylvie Brett with Christopher Herrmann and Peter Mills. All smiling and holding beers at the camera.
"Merry Christmas from us at Molly's to you and your loved ones! – 25th December 2013"
"According to the articles Leslie Shay was killed in the line of duty on May 13th 2014 when Leslie who was meant to take lead on rescuing an injured male on the scene when a bomb went off. It was put by a stalker of Leslie's named Adrian Gish and he was also responsible for putting a fire that killed Ross McGowan and Henry Mills 20 years ago, Peter Mills' dad and injured Wallace Boden, your granddaughter's godfather. Boden that day stopped Ann from going into the fire seconds before the explosion and both of them were hit by the debris. Ann sustained three injuries, a piece of metal in her abdomen and splinters above her eyebrow which caused her to have a scar now." Kasey said as recalling the information she had found from the article that had the picture.
Gibbs remembered Shannon's mention of her parents' dear friend that died when she was 10. And shocked looked at the picture and then the picture of Shannon with Leslie Shay taken mere hours before her death during Wallace Boden's wedding and according to the time stamp Shannon must have been a flower girl to his wedding.
Another photo was of his daughter with Shannon and another man that was oddly familiar to him and they were laughing as he had his arms around his daughter.
"Who's that next to Kelly?" Gibbs asked protectively.
"That is former FBI Agent Jackson Comar and did you say Kelly? As in your daughter?" Tobias Fornell said from the entrance of Kasey's lab with fast food in hands.
"Tobias!" Gibbs asked confused.
"You forgot that we had arranged dinner, you, Emily and I, she's in the car waiting. And this girl isn't Kelly, that is his niece Special Agent Ann Severide, I met her in Jackson's retiring party couple years ago. She was such a kind woman and gave such a heartfelt speech and the steaks she had cooked with her husband were to die for! Diane and I asked her for the recipe and she told us it was her mother-in-law's as she wrote it down while her husband jokingly pleaded not to trade government secrets with us. And now that I think about it Diane was a little weird that day, kept eyeing Ann weirdly saying how she looked familiar. Is Ann your Kelly? How is that possible?" Fornell rambled confused and surprised with generous doses of shock and disbelief.
"Diane met Kelly?!" Gibbs exclaimed in shock as he rubbed his face.
"If Ann is Kelly then yes we met your daughter." Fornell said confused.
"Yeah well you also met my granddaughter." Gibbs said annoyed.
"Your what?" Fornell choked out shocked as he laughed.
"Yes, Ann's daughter, Shannon." Gibbs said as he showed him the picture.
"Agh! Shan! I met her during the party but she was busy studying for exams so she came to hang out a bit and then excused herself after the lunch and I found her sitting on the floor with papers and headphones on and we talked a bit. She was working on a paper and she was listening to a college speech on YouTube. She asked some weird questions, about dyslexia." Fornell said as he tried to recall.
"She spoke big words and fast and she even started walking up and down while listening and had stuck a bunch of words in sticky notes all over the place. And according to Emily their schools were pinned against one another during a debate decathlon and after it she and Emily shared hotel rooms and helped Shannon finish a project she was working on she was too jittery and she couldn't think and write so Emily played her secretary. They kept in touch after that but I don't know what happened after that." Fornell said as he started eating the fries and he watched Gibbs watch him with a "what are you talking about" look.
"Why are we talking about this?" Fornell asked confused.
"Because somebody tried to kill her three times. Shot her twice tried to choke her once." Jimmy said from his spot behind the computer screens that Kasey had.
"What?! Poor girl!" Fornell exclaimed shocked and worried.
"Does Ann know?" Fornell asked confused as Gibbs sighed and shook his head as he started to head out and Fornell with Jimmy rushed behind him.
Gibbs left them in the bullpen and went to the morgue where he found Shannon staring in the dark void.
But I had the worst two days so give me a break! What do we do next?" Shannon said angrily as she wiped her tears and then asked Gibbs about the next step of all of this.
"You are coming upstairs and we call ATF."Gibbs said and she nodded as she slid but winced when she felt her ribs.
She followed Gibbs to the bullpen and sighed when she realized it was way into the evening.
She wondered if Mr. Harris or Mr. Arian learned of the things that occurred and if her classmates were safe.
"Guys, I want you to meet Shannon Rhodes, we might have to give our current case to another team or push it back in order to help her since an attack happened on our backyard by solving her case, she was the target, for what reason we don't know yet. McGee, get me ATF." Gibbs ordered as he pointed to Shannon who shyly waved.
"Agent Gibbs, I have something to show you." She said as she typed a bit on her phone and suddenly on the big screen were photos of a man, a building, a burned down building, Cornelius Rhodes and her.
"This is a working theory I have. This man attacked me in an alley I used as a shortcut to get to school two days ago, I beat him up, mum's team made an arrest because I gave my weapons to Agent Choi who gave to Agent Simmons and she got them to mum and Uncle Mike…sorry I mean Special Agent Mike Callow, my mum's boss. They might have already started a case. So, we need to call them. Now, he looks like he could be in a gang or something which bring this theory, what if my grandpa invested in real estate in a territory owned by a Chicago gang? What if he is after all as dad says "a douchebag in a penguins suit" and he knew it was a gang territory but wanted the property to turn it into luxurious hotel or apartments like he usually does but didn't want to be targeted because he recently had one too many bad deals. So, who's better to take the fall than his young upcoming granddaughter, heir to the business? He must have thought they won't hurt a child, which is dumb, you live in Chicago where children die every day in gang related shootouts why would your granddaughter to be any different? So, he forces me in a sense to sign my name over the lease making me a target. But why follow me here? DC had its own gang I'm sure that Chicago gangs won't risk stepping over territories." Shannon rambled as she let the theory she's been working in the back of her head out of her mouth feeling lighter.
She was too busy looking at the grey carpet and pacing back and forth to notice the NCIS team plus Fornell and his daughter staring at her in awe and confusion while Gibbs had a ghostly proud smirk.
"What? No theories?" She asked oblivious as she raised her head and froze.
"Did I do something bad?" She asked confused.
"No, but I think you found the motive in your own case." Torres said in an amazed chuckle.
"And how do you know so much about gangs?" McGee asked confused.
"I go to a public school, I've seen too many classmates lose siblings or their lives to gang related fire either because they were in one or were at the wrong time in the wrong place. Plus, Aunt Katie and Aunt Nadia…never mind…I grew up around cops, firefighters and doctors plus mum is a federal agent so you learn…" Shannon said with a shrug but her eyes shown deep sadness as she rubbed her shoulders and forgot that she was hurt in the shoulders when she moved them.
"Plus you're a genius just like your mum!" A female voice said behind them and Shannon's face light up.
"Aunt Erin!" Shannon run to her arms and Erin took a step back.
"Heard what happened and Jackson called in an old favor." Erin said smiling as Shannon hold on to her.
"Who are you?" Gibbs asked confused.
"FBI Agent Erin Lindsey and Shannon's godmother. Her mum was one of my closest friends…still is but I live and work here, taking Jackson's team over, he was my boss, Ann introduced us." She explained and Shannon kept hugging her not letting go.
"How are you going to help?" Shannon asked confused while still in Erin's embrace.
"Well, first of all I checked in with your teachers, they are safe in their hotel rooms in total lockdown, Choi and Simmons appeared in my house wounded after Ann gave them my address not trusting to make it to their safe house and my boyfriend is a doctor so he helped them. Then Choi let your mum know they were okay while resulted into Jackson calling me and asking me if I can work with you guys, so I came here to let you know that all the evidence they have and the local police has are being shipped to me, because I'm the safest person, and through me you can get it, I won't touch anything I'm just receiving them, Agent Gibbs can be in my house to take them once I sign the forms. And because I'm a familiar face which will help sooth Shan over here, since they aren't coming down. It's the McCloud case according to Ann. Ann has taken herself off the case saying it's too personal. And that is all I have to say. Shannon, have you eaten anything?" Erin rambled as she mentally ticked off things she was asked to say and then her tone went from all business to concern guardian when she asked about Shannon's meal intake.
"Shit! Forgot to eat!" Shannon slapped her face and then winced at the abrupt move of her hurt arm.
"Yep…just like your parents, you gotta eat Rhodes!" Erin scolded her and she smiled liking that she was seeing Erin, she left so suddenly with no goodbye and deleted her social media.
"I'm taking her to eat something and she's staying with me." Erin announced.
"Um…no, she's in protective custody of NCIS, she's coming with me." Gibbs said as he walked over to them.
"I'm her godmother so I have guardianship over her, sir." Erin said protectively as she held Shannon's hand and Shannon looked afraid between them.
"Well, I'm her…biological grandpa and she came to us so she's staying at my house and that's final!" Gibbs growled out and Shannon looked at the ground when Erin's grip let go of her hand.
"What?! How is that possible?" Erin asked confused and looked at Shannon in a betrayed look.
"Mum is his biological daughter. Remember how uncle Kelly told this story that whenever he would pitch his name for a baby name mum would flinch? My mum real name is Kelly Ann Gibbs, she was meant to die in 1991." Shannon said in an ashamed tone.
"Holy shit!" Ellie Bishop gasped as she looked shocked at Gibbs.
"Boss? Is that true?" McGee asked shocked and confused.
"Yes, it is McGee, learned it this noon." Gibbs said abruptly as he turned and looked at his team.
"Agent Gibbs, I think it's best if I go stay with aunt Erin…" Shannon said in a small voice.
She didn't like fights, she listened to her dad and grandpa fighting a lot through the years even though they tried to hide it.
"Why didn't your mum ever tell me? Has she told anyone else?" Erin asked Shannon deeply hurt.
"Yes, her team, Jackson and dad. Jackson helped her when she was child. And she didn't tell you because she didn't want to burden you or anyone else, it was in her past, she had a rare chance for a new life and since legal reasons never came up she decided to keep it to herself. Plus she had no idea if the person that tried to kill her was looking for her still, would you risk that?" Shannon asked her aunt in a protective yet saddened tone.
"No, you're right…sorry it's just…all new...but she's right Agent Gibbs, it's better if she's stays with me." Erin said in a tone that showed she was still wrapping her mind around it.
"No and that is final, you can go eat and catch up but she's coming with me." Gibbs said in a commanding tone and Erin sighed and nodded giving up. Shannon then got her stuff and followed Erin waving a small goodbye at everyone before she froze and said;
"Hey! I know you from the debate thing! Emily right?"
Emily smiled and nodded.
"Nice to see you again, hope you're good! Gotta eat, bye!"
And the elevator closed before Shannon's smiling face.
"Debate?" Erin chuckled.
"Yeah, she was two years older than me but we shared rooms." Shannon said smiling to Erin.
Once Erin and Shannon found a burger joint they sat down and ordered.
Back in NCIS HQ silence was ruling over the MCRT team.
"Why didn't you tell us earlier, Boss?" McGee asked first and his tone was hurt.
"Because I just found out myself, McGee!" He exclaimed angrily as he sat back on his desk and looked at the screen with the photos of his granddaughter, her paternal grandfather and the land.
"What bothers me, boss, I mean it's very curious that your granddaughter is being surrounded by FBI and Chicago Police Department and the ATF, how could you not know that your own daughter was alive when she was working with the ATF, she is a Federal Agent how could she go under the radar for this long?" Ellie asked concerned and Gibbs sighed.
"Guys, stop asking me questions that I can't answer! We have two cases now, get to work!" Gibbs yelled angrily.
Shannon and Erin sat the burger joint and waited their burgers when Erin said;
"How are you? How is your mum handling all of this?" Erin asked concerned.
"I'm shit, mum as you said took herself out of the case and it's coming here which means I'm forcing her to face her dad and past without giving her as much of a warning. She is worried about me and about how the case might reflect on her and her team. Do I need to continue?" She said saddened and guilty as she lowered her head.
"Honey, it was meant to happen one way or the other, the past always catches up to us either we like it or not." Erin said in a soft tone to her goddaughter as she gently squeezed her arm careful not to mess with her injuries.
Just then their food came and Shannon started eating like she hadn't eaten anything in years.
"Look, now everything will be settled now that the case is coming and I'm sure they will solve it." Erin reassured her but kept her voice low so in case they were followed whoever was listening and wasn't close to them or had bugged the booth wouldn't be able to listen in.
Back in Chicago, Ann formerly known as Kelly, was looking over the copy of the McCloud case and her daughter's photo of the man that beat her in that forsaken alley. The original file was on route to NCIS. She wasn't allowed to interrogate the man because her boss knew she would beat him up instead of interrogate him. She could be scary.
"Honey, I talked with my dad and he said he is just as shocked as we are. But we both know he's lying through his teeth, our daughter wouldn't lie! And I hate he's doing this again! I thought he wanted to have a relationship with his granddaughter and now he's doing this?!" Connor rambled angrily as he was pacing back and forth.
While she sat on their couch in their home with soft rain hitting the windows of the home, it was raining all day and it reflected on the worrying parents' mood.
"Mike is planning to arrest him just because he messed with Shannon but we need to have evidence that he is connected to the case and the building. I can't find anything because all of this is under Shannon's name!" Kelly said angrily and protectively.
"Shouldn't that be NCIS job now, Ann? I mean you've taken off the case or you took yourself off the case in order to go to DC, what are you trying to figure out now?" Connor asked angrily and annoyed at his wife. She's been acting so focused on the case and not their daughter who have been through so much in so little time and he was unable to be there for her! She had three assassination attempts! He never had one in his life! His daughter had three and she wasn't even 20 years old!
"I took myself off the case, Connor, but when I get there I don't want to be left with having to only sooth Shan, I need to be able to help and contribute anything new or a way to solve this mess quicker. I can't be stuck with my dad in the same office without feeling guilty and afraid. Guilty that I left and had this full life while he was left alone to grieve us, as a mother I can't think of how it would feel is Shannon dies because of me, my case and my job!" Kelly rambled angrily as all the emotions she had tried two days now to suppress came bubbling up and her eyes stink with tears. Connor froze and listened to her as he looked at her behind the couch not seeing her face but listening her voice, it broke his heart. He walked over to her and sat next to her on the couch.
"I'm going to kill your dad, sweetie, I'm going to make it painful and slow. First of all I'm going to get him in the cage and beat the shit out of him in a way it would make Voight raise his eyebrows, and we all know how hard is to impress Voight, and then I'm going to…"
"Then you're going to leave him to me, honey, I'm a surgeon, I have my ways. No one hurts our daughter and gets her almost killed." Connor stopped his wife's angry scheming over torture methods. He then hugged her as Kelly let angry tears fall down her eyes.
"Let's go to bed and we pick this up tomorrow…we need sleep to be on our top game for our daughter." Connor gently urged Kelly as they spend a few minutes in silence digesting to how their lives turned upside down in the past 48 hours.
The next day both they would be on a plane to DC and then in NCIS to see their daughter and help as much as they could with the case.
In the other side of Chicago, Cornelius Rhodes was busy shredding document after document, cursing his strategic mind while doing so.
It was never meant to go like this! Shannon wasn't meant to get hurt!
The building was in Saints' territory, a gang that cause major issues for Chicago but at the same time funded some construction that he wanted but with how bad his recent real estate business was he needed the money so when he bought that building he wasn't expecting his old associates, the Black Scorpions, the gang he used to share his profits with whenever he would build a successful mall or condo because they would use apartments for their business or move product through the mall. It created jobs and living spaces for people who lived in not so great areas but still he wasn't meant to be making same deals with anyone other than Black Scorpions but now he had made the same deal with the Saints hoping that it won't get around. But it did, and they burnt the building down.
He made his precious granddaughter sign the lease because Black Scorpions and Saints had one rule, they never hurt kids, they did their best to avoid hurting kids! But were they hunting his granddaughter now?
Now what will he do? How will he made them stop chasing his granddaughter? Why are they chasing her since they have a rule about not hunting kids?
In the house of Paul and Mandy Severide, Paul was boiling in anger after Mandy told him after Ann called her to rant about the McCloud case and how it was now affecting her daughter now!
"I can't believe this son of a bitch! He's supposed to protect our granddaughter from his ventures in his high end escapades! It's our granddaughter! What is wrong with this guy!?" Paul yelled loudly and angrily.
"Honey, maybe it was a mistake, he had a hard life too, you know." Mandy tried to reason why would Cornelius did what he did.
"You are taking his side?" Paul exclaimed angrily.
"No! I'm aware he raised two kids by himself after his wife killed herself. We raised Ann and it wasn't a cake in the park." Mandy said in calm and collected tone.
"I know but what gave him the right to force our granddaughter to sign a legal document! She's sixteen she shouldn't be signing any documents! And if that's not enough, I don't care that our Shannon is part of an A List society but she's still a kid! And she almost died!" Paul yelled at Mandy angrily and Mandy nodded in a defeated tone.
"Oh trust me I am royally pissed at him but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt just because we are a family now." Mandy said in a defeat sigh.
"Yeah, everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt but Connor warned us about his father's behavior!" Paul exclaimed angrily as he sat down.
"We let Ann and her team deal with it and we are going to be here for our daughter and granddaughter. Our daughter is about to meet her bio-dad after so many years, we have to make sure that we are here if she needs us for emotional support." Mandy said to her husband as she reached for his hand and he nodded trying to calm down.
"If Shannon, dies….Mandy…I don't know what I'll do! What or Ann will do! Losing another Shannon, another family member named Shannon…it will break her, it will break our girl, Mandy!" Paul said suddenly with the quietest tone Mandy ever heard him use. Mandy understood him, she worried about the same thing.
"We wait and see…right?" Mandy asked rhetorically it was mostly a question for confirmation and Paul nodded as he took her in his arms.
Shannon finished the second burger and her third onion rings basket and Erin watched her concerned.
"I think you ate too much, girl." Erin said concern and Shannon just shook her head no.
"I needed this…all of this!" Shannon tried to justify her eating.
They paid and they walked back to NCIS HQ.
"I don't want to stay with Agent Gibbs…I want to stay with you, I know you…I don't know him." Shannon said dreadfully and Erin rubbed her back.
"It's gonna be fine. If anything happens, call me and I'll be there." Erin said as she gave her card with the new number she had, she erased every number on her phone from her Chicago life after what happened between her and Jay and her mum. Her life was a mess in Chicago but here was peaceful and tidy.
Shannon thanked her and she tried to be brave. She walked inside the HQ and hugged goodbye Erin who gave her a big kiss before messing with her hair a bit and winking at her as she left the building and Shannon followed her with her eyes.
During their time Shannon and Erin ate in silence Shannon wasn't in a space to discuss anything and the little Erin managed to get out of the girl was worrying her about the aftermath of such event, so she decided to drop it and let her eat. They just needed sustenance.
She turned to see Gibbs studying her and she wanted to run back to Erin's car and hide. Gibbs was scary. Especially now that she had calmed down a bit and could think anything other than her classmates, her friends, her teachers, Agents Choi and Simmons and her mum and grandpa and the men that attacked her.
"We are leaving in a bit." Gibbs let her know and she just nodded not saying anything as she asked for a piece of paper and a pencil and Torres gave her three pieces of papers and a black pen. Shannon studied the pen in appreciation…
"It's a nice brand of pen, Agent Torres." Shannon said with a small smile and Torres nodded as Shannon sat on the floor with the window to her back and she stared at the blank paper.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she started drawing a line as she watched a shape in her mind. She didn't open her eyes and focused her breathing as she drew. She felt the vibrations of footsteps and the sounds of cars and honking and talking and even the computers humming and AC system. She was grounding herself, she felt the vibration of the pen drawing on the paper on the floor and heard the sound of the paper when suddenly she was pulled back abruptly.
"Shannon?" Gibbs's voice startled her out of her mind and jumped as her eyes shot open and looked up to him, he was holding her bag and lost she looked at the paper. She had drew three 3D letters A and B and was about to finish the letter E.
"What are you doing?" Gibbs asked her and she sighed.
"Calming my mind down." She answered before she stood up and gave the pen back to Torres and put the papers in her pants' pocket before she grabbed her bag from Gibbs' hands. And followed him as they went to parking lot, silence and tension was evident in both.
"Do you have a punching bag in your place?" Shannon asked him while they were driving to his house.
"Yes, in your mum's old room." Gibbs said in a very stern tone and Shannon nodded noticing how he was clutching the steering wheel. He was mad…like hella mad! It terrified her.
Gibbs and his team used the rest of the evening to try to finish up their already open case before they received the McCloud case from FBI Agent Lindsey. And he didn't like being rushed! He didn't like being lied to! And he didn't like secrets!
"May I use it? On a normal day I would have a boxing class with Uncle Boden about now…I was planning to head to the hotel's gym, my teacher had ensured that I had access to their gym." Shannon said to Gibbs who looked at her surprised.
"You can't box, you were shot in your shoulders!" Gibbs exclaimed angrily.
"I know I was there! I just want to kick something though!" She exclaimed in an annoyed tone and Gibbs sighed but said nothing.
They arrived in Gibb's house and he gave her a grand tour and showed her where the bathroom was and where she would be sleeping, she was sleeping in her mum's room.
She soon found herself in her mum's old room turned some sort of gym slash guest room and she started kicked the punching back as Xenia Pax – Bang Bang Bang was blaring in her headphones as she kicked and kicked having Boden's instructions yelled into her head by Boden's voice.
She then stopped kicking being out of breath and sweaty as she fell on her knees and let a few tears spill on the floor as Neovaii – Bulletproof played in her headphones when she felt an arm on her shoulder and instantly twirled around and on her feet while twisting Gibbs' arm and was ready to knee him when she realized who it was.
"Sorry! Did I hurt your arm?" Shannon asked horrified with her action.
"Did your mum teach you these moves?" Gibbs asked her a little envious.
"Yes and no, grand-uncle Jackson taught mum and mum and grand-uncle Jackson used to teach me in small game like way since I as four years old and then I was enrolled into classes and Uncle Boden helped gave me extra training. I wanted to go into MMA but I got sick during enrolment day and I thought it was a sign so I gave up." She explained as she tried to wrap his hand in a bandage because it started to bruise.
"Wow! Why?" Gibbs asked and he studied her.
"Why do you think? For the same reasons, mum had to change her name." She said with a shrug not realizing how these words were hurting Gibbs.
"I'm going to have a shower and then go to bed. I'm sorry for your hand…when do I have to wake up to tomorrow?" She asked as she was about to leave and Gibbs told her that he would wake her up when it as time.
Gibbs was watching her go and he had a face of hurt, worried, anger and sorrow. The fear made his daughter hide and his granddaughter to be trained almost to Ziva's extent like if she kept training for a few more years and then with extensive training to withstand torture and she might measure up to Ziva but now she probably could fight with Ellie and come toe to toe.
He didn't like that. His daughter being as agent being a subject to the same training and dangers as him, was she ever tortured? Did she go undercover?
Hell undercover was her entire life, Ann Severide was her undercover identity, her name was Kelly Gibbs!
Shannon was staring at her wounds in the mirror before she quickly showered and decided to go to bed with wet hair, too tired to look for a hairdryer she doubted he had.
She didn't know when she fell asleep but suddenly she jerks wakes and rushes to the bathroom where she's puking her guts out.
It was like an hour or so when she woke up again and she saw Gibbs standing over her.
"Good morning, Dracula." Shannon grumbled annoyed and sat up.
"Why Dracula?" Gibbs chuckled at her and she smiled.
"Because you were standing over me." Shannon explained as she threw the duvet over.
"I was about to wake you up and you woke up before I could wake you." Gibbs explained before he left the room and Shannon got dressed when she saw her phone with messages with her friends worried and asking if she was okay.
She texted back that she was okay but more will be told once everything was safe.
Then another text for her was from Erin telling her that the McCloud case was sent to NCIS and to let Gibbs know.
Then there were texts from her parents telling her how much they loved her and were proud of her and how she survived and survives this situation. And her mum texted her that she and her dad were coming to be with her like an actual parents would so she won't feel forced to stay with strangers again.
Shannon texted her apologizing profusely before her mother told her to not apologize for something she had no control over and ordered her to have good day or try at least.
She walked down the stairs to see Gibbs dressed and was eating cereal and had set out a bowl for her.
"Thanks, I love cereal." Shannon said smiling kindly as she poured some coffee and then milk and sugar. Gibbs watched her with raised eyebrows.
"I have ADHD and not my medication with me, coffee slows my brain down and helps me focus." Shannon explained and Gibbs nodded but didn't quite understand how coffee could have such a calming effect.
"You didn't understand, did you?" Shannon asked him after a minute of silence as she made her own bowl of cereal and Gibbs shook his head.
"Okay, so, I have ADHD, meaning that my brain process whatever my eyes see twice as fast as a normal brain does, that in a hunting and gathering society would have made me a great hunter giving the ability to make fast calculations and measured probabilities of upcoming attacks from my prey. But in our society my brain isn't needed to process this quickly causing me to get bored quicker, seem like I'm spacing out when in reality I'm not. I'm just way passed thinking and processing what you were just done processing and I've sank into the endless black hole of questions I have for whatever I saw and on top of that I'm trying to find solutions. Coffee has a dial down effect of ADHD to normal functioning brains but the opposite in neurodivergent brains like mine. Neurodivergent is a term used to categorize people with ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, Autism and its spectrum because to these categories the neurons in the brain react differently to stimulus than normal brains, neuro-divergency meaning the changing of reaction to stimuli can be caused from TBI, traumatic brain injury, PTSD and C-PTSD (Complex- PTSD) and traumatic events such as emotional, physical and sexual abuse. It the first step the brain gets before you start to dissociate from your environment which can lead to an episode or several episodes of Dissociative Identity Disorder and then suppressing these memories. But you can also be born with it, inheriting it from any branch of your family, like me." Shannon finished her speech while Gibbs stared at her blinking trying to process all the words vomit she just did.
It was too early and she used too much detail for him.
"So, you were born with ADHD?" Gibbs asked confused and Shannon nodded.
"Yes, mum realized it when I would spent hours looking at my toys from various angles and then stare at the wall for hours before suddenly I had a burst of energy and then as fast as it appeared it was gone and I was either crying or sleeping in odd places. I slept once inside our bathtub and mum was looking for me for an hour." Shannon said as she started eating and Gibbs nodded.
"Who has ADHD in your family?" Gibbs asked concerned and Shannon sighed as she swallowed some cereal
"Mum. She was diagnosed when she was 10. Grandma Mandy saw her eating her nails and one day she was brushing mum's hair when she noticed how mum had bit so deep into her nails that was nasty, then noticed how whenever mum would be doing homework she was either pacing in her room or doing tricks with her pen like I do at times. Then she would forget instructions like, go bring me the juice from the fridge, mum would find herself in front of the fridge not remembering what she was meant to do. She was ten when mum returned home crying because she had fainted in school and kids made fun of her, she fainted because she forgot to eat, she was meant to be checking something at school library, next thing she knows she's in her classroom seeing black dots while reading something her teacher asked her to read. Grandpa Paul thought it was PTSD from what she went through but having gaps of memories in her day terrified him and grandma Mandy so they took her to Doctor Charles who diagnosed her." Shannon said as she kept eating not bothering to swallow before speaking.
Gibbs was disturbed by how much Shannon knew about these things, she was kid! And then the disturbance was doubled hearing that his daughter was also struggling. He never noticed it when she was with him but having adoptive parents with medical background sure helped bringing attention to it early on.
He was weirdly thankful for that.
"I remember the first time I realized I had ADHD, it was two years ago." Shannon said chuckling as she shook her head and kept eating. Gibbs studied her.
"What do you mean you realized?" Gibbs asked confused.
"When your whole life you've been giving this pill that made everything go by slower and helps you feel in control you don't question what the adults and doctors say to you. I was fourteen and it was snowing outside and school was out but mum and dad had to work and they left in a hurry so I wasn't given my pill, they lock the medicine cabinet for safety measure not that I every abused pills but you better be safe. Anyways, I tried to open the cabinet but I couldn't so I was left without my pill, I didn't realize how much this pill helps me daily. I was watching cartoon on TV when suddenly the thought of me sliding with my snow-sled from the roof of my house occurred to me. I couldn't stop thinking about it and visualize it, so in my pjs I grabbed the sled and went to the attic and got out of the small window and I was on the snowed roof. The snow was frozen and I slipped, I ended up hanging from the roof and instead of being afraid I was manically laughing. Then I swing myself back and forth trying to see what would happen. My neighbor who works from home saw me and called the fire department and started yelling at me to stop moving and that I would fall, I didn't listen, I fell and broke my leg and got hypothermia. Uncle Kelly got me to Med and I was grounded and given my medication. Then hours later I had a panic attack after I realized what I did. After that my parents always make me carry my medication and taught me alternatives in case I can't take my meds." Shannon finished telling her story and Gibbs was staring at her with wide eyes.
"Do you have death wish?!" He exclaimed angrily and Shannon laughed.
"No, well maybe…sometimes!" Shannon said as she shrugged and drank some coffee. Gibbs shook his head disapprovingly.
"How do you know so much about these types of things?" Gibbs asked as he stood up and started washing his bowl and mug.
"When you spent three days in the hospital because of hypothermia and a broken leg because of a mental disorder you have you to do some research." Shannon said as she finished her cereal and coffee and stood up to wash her dishes.
Gibbs studied her and sighed.
"Can you buy your medication from any pharmacy or you need prescription?" Gibbs asked her interested.
"If I can show my ID and they can look into my medical history maybe, we could ask if we go, it's Guanfacine." She said as she sighed and dried her hands.
"Okay, let's go, grab your stuff." Gibbs ordered and Shannon run upstairs and grabbed her stuff and rushed after him.
They stopped at the first pharmacy and they weren't allowed to get the meds even though she shown her ID. They left and went to NCIS and they were told that the McCloud case arrived.
"What am I supposed to do now Agent Gibbs?" Shannon asked Gibbs vexed and then she saw Jack Sloane.
"You'll be talking with her. Also, we need your phone." Gibbs said in a business tone and Shannon sighed annoyed as she opened her phone and stole a paper and pen from Ellie's desk and started writing done her parents' numbers, Agents Choi's and Simmon's numbers, Erin's number and her friends' numbers and Mr. Harris' and Mr. Arian's numbers before she deactivated it and handing to Gibbs and folded the paper and put it in her bag.
She followed Jack in her office and flopped on the couch as she studied the painting of an elephant.
"Nice, painting, Dr. Sloane." Shannon said smiling kindly and Jack smiled.
"Call me Sloane and how you knew I was a doctor?" Sloane asked amused.
"I'm a psychic…kidding….I have good hearing and I heard Agent Gibbs calling you while I was trying to convince the pharmacist to give me my ADHD medication without my doctor's prescription. In addition to that, you have to speak to me about my trauma and how I'm dealing with it and if I have an input in the case and keep me busy while they try to figure out the mess I made." Shannon said sarcastically at first as she wiggled her eyebrows at Sloane before she let a small smile play in her lips and her tone went to know-it-all tone from sarcastic.
"Correct…wow, you perspective young girl." Sloane complimented and Shannon nodded.
"Can I call my mum? To tell her that my phone is turned off and to call your office in case something changes?" Shannon asked after a small pause as Sloane studied her and Shannon studied her surroundings and stuck looking at the window before she turned to Sloane.
"Of course!" Sloane said and gave her the phone and Shannon fished out the paper and started dialing.
"Hey mum, I'm safe, I'm at NCIS and my phone is turned off and given to Agent Gibbs probably is helpful in their investigation. If you need anything call this number is the number of Miss Jack Sloane, I'm at her office with her. Have safe trip! Love you and dad!" Shannon explained quickly and calmly before she hung up.
"It was left to voice mail, they might be on their flight, they are coming here." Shannon explained to Sloane as she watched her and she nodded.
"How do you feel that your mum will meet her dad…your grandpa?" Sloane asked her and Shannon sighed.
"I feel guilty because mum never wanted to bother her dad or put him in danger and the guy that tried to kill her and grandma Shannon." She said shrugging yet her tone held guilt.
"If it was up to her would Gibbs have learned?" Sloane asked her and Shannon shook her head no.
"Why?"
"Why why? How would you feel if your long dead daughter showed up in your doorstep with their kid and husband?" Shannon asked rhetorically.
"I would have been very happy in the end, shocked and mad at first but would have been happy." Sloane said seriously.
"You would have been, mum couldn't predict his reactions." Shannon said with a sad sigh.
"True." Sloane conceded.
"What music do you like?" Sloane asked her trying to change the topic to something lighter.
"Depends on my mood…I can go from listening to Pagan folk to Heavy Metal and Classical music….recently I'm more into French Pop and Rap/Trap type of music with breaks listening to Nordic and Viking folk. What about you?" Shannon said with a shrug.
Sloane didn't expect such a length or weird answer…who listens to Nordic and Viking folk at the age of 16?
"Wow! How you started listening to folk music?" Sloane asked avoiding answering her own question.
"I have ADHD as Agent Gibbs told you or at least I bet he did tell you, I needed a music that would allow me to study yet keeping me focused and not allowing me to get distracted by things around me. So, one day I was browsing YouTube when I saw Irish folk dancers dancing the Riverdance, the music and the sounds of their shoes gave me a rhythm and I could finally slow my brain down and do some homework, so I started looking more to Celtic and Gaelic folk and I went from there." Shannon explained with a calmer tone as if she was recalling the scene in her head and Sloane saw the young girl stare at the desk as if she was back in her room seeing herself.
"He did tell me. So, how you started listening to French songs?" Sloane asked her and she sighed.
"I was at a party in New York with some rich kids and I didn't fit in at all and since the friend…if you can call her that…was somewhere doing drugs when I decided to head out and explore the city by myself. We were at bar but as I got out I heard music from a rooftop bar on the same building so I went up there and I heard my first song of Maitre Gims and I was sitting in the sidelines awkwardly watching when this guy with another girl grabbed my hand and we started dancing to the music and once the song ended we found ourselves at the bar where I learned that this was Sober Night Party, all these people were recovering alcoholics and at the bar you could finally order non-alcoholic drinks, my paradise! I can drink but I don't like it. So, I ordered a sour cherry juice and we sat in one of the couches and started talking. The guy was named Adam and his twin was named Ada from Adeline, we became good friends and I asked them how was college life in New York. It was a nice outing, I was then called by the girl I was with at first and had to leave, her driver was driving us back home, so I quickly exchanged phone numbers with them and I left. I spent a good year talking to them on social media before suddenly they stopped answering. I called and called…Adam had ODed and Ada committed suicide because she couldn't bear the thought of living her life without her twin. I listen to that music to remember them and remind me that life can be good and bad I have the choice to see what I want to see, I didn't see their demons that night." Shannon said as she looked at her hands and rubbed them together and blinked tears away.
Sloane was looking concerned at her and then at the doorway at Gibbs who listened to everything and was watching her with pity.
"How old were you when this happened?" Sloane asked her and Shannon looked up startled as if someone woke her up from a daydream.
"I was fourteen. I was fifteen when they died." Shannon said with a sad tone.
"You were at a bar at 14?!" Gibbs exclaimed angrily and Shannon rolled her eyes.
"Yes, with fake IDs that after I learned what happened to Adam and Ada because they were teen going to bars and drinking and using I burned them and vowed that I won't touch a drink or step inside a bar until I was 21. Don't lecture me, mum did that already!" Shannon exclaimed angrily and annoyed.
"Who let you go to New York by yourself?" Gibbs asked still with an angry tone.
"No one! I was with grandpa Cornelius for business deal, he was at a business dinner and us kids got bored and with their permissions we went roaming downtown New York and we ended up at the party Camila, the "friend" I was with knew it was happening and the bouncer owed her." Shannon exclaimed with a protective tone.
"Both of you calm down!" Sloane yelled from her seat as she stood up and watched as granddaughter and grandfather were staring at each other with glares.
"Gibbs, why are you in my office in the first place?" Sloane asked concerned and a little annoyed.
"I wanted to check how things were going between you two." Gibbs said with still angry tone yet you could see he was calming down and had giving up the staring contest.
"I need to go…" Shannon said shaking her head still upset and marched out of the room.
Shannon marched out in the Navy Yard and sat on a bench as she put her hands on her face and tried to do some breathing exercises when she felt she was being watched and turned to see Torres walking up to her with his hand in a sling.
"Hey." He said as he sat next to her.
"I hate the sun…" Shannon said as she glared at the sky.
"I love the sun." Torres said and Shannon nodded.
"How is your hand?" She asked him and he sighed.
"I've had worse…how are your shoulders and ribs?" Torres asked her and Shannon sighed.
"They hurt but what can ya do….I'm hungry where can I buy a sandwich?" Shannon said with a tone that showed how much she didn't give a shit.
"On the right corner." Torres said and Shannon nodded before she got up and started heading there.
"Do you have money?!" He yelled after her but Shannon didn't hear him.
Shannon entered the bakery and smiled as she checked the prices and then took her shoe off and its sole and took out twenty dollars. Her grandpa Cornelius told her to always carry extra cash in places people never thought to look when they would try to rob you in the streets of Chicago.
She was thankful the cash didn't smell like feet and went and ordered a chicken sandwich and a sugar donut and a big cup of Latte coffee. She paid ten dollars and then she tipped four dollars in the jar and then gave the rest to a homeless man she saw as she went to the bakery.
She returned to NCIS to see Gibbs yelling at Torres for letting her go out of the Navy Yard without supervision.
"I wasn't murdered and he wasn't told to be in protective detail so don't yell at him for something he wasn't tasked to do!" She sighed annoyed as she bit into her sandwich and held the coffee and bag with the donut with her other hand.
"And you! Why would you go outside the Navy Yard without protection! Yesterday somebody tried to kill you twice and the day before that once! It's not safe for you to be roaming outside like that!" Gibbs scolded her angrily and Shannon nodded.
"You're right…it was foolish and dangerous but I was hungry! Also, I hate the sun…" Shannon said in a defeated tone at first but then pause for a moment before she added annoyed that she didn't like the sun.
"I won't do it again, I'm sorry, it's so new to this…" Shannon said as looked at Gibbs and showed she was being truthful.
"Fine! Just go back to Jack's office and stay there!" Gibbs sighed defeated as he couldn't stay mad and Shannon nodded as she run upstairs.
Sloane wasn't in her office so Shannon sat on the couch and ate her sandwich while humming to a random music.
Sloane found her checking her books while sipping her coffee and smiled.
"You're back!"
"Yep…what do you think would happen to our bodies if we shrunk one day at random? Would the sound of chair being dragged across the room sound like you are being near the biggest headphones at a festival and the vibration of that action would be like an earthquake possible 10.2 magnitude?" Shannon rambled deep in thoughts and Sloane huhed not knowing what to say.
"Did you take your medication today?" Sloane asked and Shannon shook her head no and then Sloane smiled as she showed her a tablet of Guanfacine and Shannon squealed in delight at she grabbed it and then frown.
"I can't take it…I missed my time stamp…I can either take it in the morning before food or in the noon…in five hours…agh! But thank you, how did you get that?" Shannon said with a sad and annoyed frown as she looked at Sloane.
"Dr. Palmer gave them to me once Gibbs told him of your condition." Sloane said smiling and Shannon hugged her.
"Do you want half of my donut?" Shannon asked and Sloane nodded as Shannon gave her half of her dessert.
The following five hours were spent with Shannon reading through Sloane's bookcase and pacing around or having small conversations answering some questions from Sloane and took a nap.
How do you like Gibbs' reaction to find out about Shannon and Kelly's survival and life? Who do you think tried to kill Shannon and why? Do you think there will be a Kelly and Gibbs reunion?
Tell me in your comments!
