Now, let's resume our tale!
Kitty Surprise!
The next day…
"Mmm," Gavin hummed as he slowly started to wake up, opening his eyes while the sound of birds singing reached his ears. 'Man, what a weird and wonderful dre-It wasn't a dream,' He thought as his eyes widened upon seeing that he was in the makeshift den. 'It wasn't a dream,' He repeated as he looked down and saw a wolf pup with a green collar sleeping next to him, a leg extended outwards. 'It wasn't a dream! It was real!'
The wolf pup then started to stir, and sleepily opened his eyes.
"Good morning," Gavin said to the pup with a gentle smile, doing his best to keep his excitement inside. "Sleep well?"
At that, the pup yipped, before whining a bit, looking sad. "Hey, don't worry," Gavin said to the pup as he sat up and pat him on the head. "I'll do everything I can to get you back to your family, okay?" he continued, making the pup perk his head up a bit. "But first, let's eat some breakfast."
At that, the pup yipped, before there was another "poof" of smoke, and the werewolf had changed back to his human self. "Yay!" he said with a very young voice that sounded rather playful. "I'm hungry!" He continued.
Gavin stared at him with surprise, having not expected the werewolf child to talk so suddenly. After all, he'd only met him last night.
"Well then, I'll start cooking," He replied before he crawled out of the den and got up, stretching once he had stood up completely. 'So he's talking,' Gavin thought to himself as he reached over and turned on the TV, before turning it on to Spongebob for the kid to watch. 'That's good,' He continued as he headed over to the kitchen and pulled out some eggs, sausage, and ham, before he grabbed a couple skillets and a bowl. 'Really good.'
He then started to cook the food, while the kid watched TV, thinking about his current situation as he did so.
After about twenty minutes had passed, he dished the cooked food onto two plates, with the kid getting a lot more than he was having.
"Alright then," Gavin said to the kid as he grabbed the remote and turned off the TV, before he walked over and set the plate down before him, along with a cup of orange juice. "Here you go," he continued before he sat down across from the kid on a small stool, which put him at eye level with the kid. "Enjoy."
"Thank you!" The kid said with a smile before he started to scarf down the food, sending bits of food everywhere.
"Slow down!" Gavin replied with surprise. "Take your time. Enjoy the food!" he continued. "It's not running away."
"Sorry," The kid answered him, his ears going down a bit before he slowed down a little.
"It's okay," he replied, before he started to eat. "I just don't want you to choke on your food."
And with that, the two continued eating.
Several minutes went by, before the two finished eating. "So, how'd you like it?" He asked the werewolf as he took his empty plate, which the kid had literally licked clean.
"It was yummy!" The kid replied.
"Good," Gavin said with a smile as he walked over and put the dishes in the sink to let them soak a bit. "So, now that that's over with, let's talk," he continued as he walked back over and sat down before the kid. "What brings you here?" He asked the kid. "Why are you lost?"
The kid became silent at that and frowned as he looked down. "I did something bad," He replied. "Really bad."
"What'd you do?" Gavin asked the kid.
"I took the amulet," The kid replied.
"What amulet?" Gavin asked with curiosity, prompting the kid to get up and run into the fake den. A few seconds later, the kid returned with an object in his hands and set it on the coffee table.
Said object was a hand-sized silver-colored flat and smooth skull that was missing its lower jaw and had a large bow on the side of its head.
"This amulet," The kid replied. "My sister told me to never touch it or play with it. But yesterday, no one would play with me at all! Not even any of my 8 brothers!"
"You have eight brothers?!" Gavin said with surprise, before shaking his head. "Nevermind on that. So what happened?"
"Well, I'd overheard my sister talk with her friends about this amulet, and apparently if you say a name and a phrase with it, it'll take you to them. So, I grabbed it when they weren't looking, before I asked it to take me to someone who could play with me, and said the phrase," the kid replied as he stared at the amulet. "Next thing I knew I was in this city, and I ran away to hide. I tried to get the amulet to take me back, but I forgot the phrase I needed to say."
"And so you spent the rest of the day hiding in the alley?" Gavin asked him.
"Yeah," The kid replied, sniffing a bit. "I miss my mommy," he continued as tears started to form in his eyes. "I want to go home!" He said as he started to cry.
"Hey hey hey!" Gavin said quickly as he got up and went over to the kid, picking him up and setting him in his lap. "It's okay. It's okay," he said reassuringly to the kid as he cried in his arms. "It's okay." 'I gotta help this kid,' Gavin thought to himself as he looked at the werewolf. 'But how?' He continued. 'I don't know any magic. I'm only human.'
As he sat there, there were two loud "Meows" from the nearby window. "Oh, the twins are back," Gavin said to the werewolf kid, catching his attention.
"'The twins?'" The kid asked him with confusion, prompting him to point at the nearby window. There, sitting on the windowsill, were two female cats.
They had a mirror theme with each other, with both having gray fur covering their bodies and white facial markings, as well as bright yellowish-amber eyes. Both had white stripes running over their legs and arms, but one had her stripes on her right arm and left leg, while the other had them on her left arm and right leg. Both had long gray tails, and the fur on the tops of their heads was a bit different too, with the cat with stripes on her right arm and left leg having glossy white fur on the top, while the other had glossy black fur.
"Yep! These two visit me all the time," Gavin replied as he set the boy down on the couch and walked over to the window, before he opened it. "Hello girls," He said to the two cats as they jumped into his arms. "Good to see you."
"Meow," The two cats said as they rested in his arms, purring happily.
"You two, we have a guest," He said to them, before turning to the werewolf boy on the couch. "See?" He continued, while the cats looked at the boy and immediately jumped out of his arms. They then ran over to the boy and sat on the couch as they looked at him. "Huh, they sure are curious about you," Gavin said as he shut the window and walked back over to them. "I'm not surprised honestly. I doubt they've ever seen a werewolf before," he continued as the cats looked the boy up and down.
"Anyways, let me take a look at this amulet," Gavin said as he ran to his room, and returned after a couple of seconds with a large magnifying glass. He then sat down and picked up the amulet. "Hmmm," he hummed as he looked at it carefully, starting at the bottom. As he slowly moved up to the eyes, he hummed some more. "There's some writing in the socket here," he said, catching the boy's attention. "But I can't quite make it out. It's quite faint."
"Mrow?" One of the cats said as she hopped onto the table and walked over to look at the magnifying glass.
"See?" Gavin said as he held the glass out for the cat to look through, pointing at the back of the right eye socket.
"Mrow," The cat said again as she stared through the magnifying glass for several seconds, before she turned to her twin and meowed at her.
Her twin let out a surprised "Meow" at her sister, who tilted her head to the side as she gave another "Meow."
Her twin then slowly nodded, before the two hopped off the couch and coffee table and walked towards the center of the room, before they turned around and sat down. Then, there were two "poof"s of black and white smoke, and the cats had changed to humanoids.
"What the heck?!" Gavin exclaimed as he stared at the two humanoid cats. "You're werecats?!"
Both looked to be around 15-year-old and stood 5 feet 6 inches tall. They both had large chests and big butts, and long gray tails behind them, as well as their fur on their bodies and large cat ears. The cat that had had glossy white fur on her head now had glossy white hair that went down to her butt, and a black-and-white striped lock of hair hanging from her left side. She was wearing an outfit that looked somewhat like that of a biker, albeit a very feminine one. She wore a black, white-striped sleeveless shirt with a black, open-zippered, diamond studded vest over it. She also had one crimson and two black bracelets on her left arm, along with a crimson biker-styled glove, an orange denim skirt, and black knee-high boots with multiple black bows, including one on each side and crimson wedges.
The other cat now had glossy black hair that went down to her butt, and a black-and-white striped lock of hair hanging from her right side. She was also wearing a biker-type outfit that was quite feminine. She wore a white, black-striped, sleeveless shirt with an orange, open-zippered, black-studded vest over it. She also had one crimson bracelet on her left arm, with another on her right arm, along with two black studded bracelets and an orange biker-styled fingerless glove on her right arm and hand. She had a crimson denim skirt, and black knee-high boots with multiple laces, a buckle on each side, and crimson wedges.
Both had reddish-pink lipstick on and light blue eyeliner and eyeshadow.
"Meow," The white-haired one said with a somewhat nervous look on her face. "Yes," She continued, her voice sounding somewhat seductive and gentle.
"I-wha-when were you going to tell me?!" He replied as he stared at them, freaking out a bit.
"On your 18th birthday," The other werecat replied, her voice sounding a bit softer than her sister's. "It was going to be a surprise."
"But we decided to show ourselves now so we can help you," Her sister continued.
"'Help me?'" Gavin replied with confusion. "How?"
"We can make out the writing on the amulet," The white-haired cat said, gesturing to her slit eyes as she spoke. "Our eyesight is much better than yours."
"Oh," Gavin said with surprise. "Well then, go ahead," He continued as he picked up the amulet and held it out to them.
"Mrow," the white-haired cat said with a nod, before she and her sister picked up the magnifying glass and looked through it to make the text a bit bigger. She and her sister stared at the text for a couple minutes, talking quietly to each other, before they nodded and looked back at Gavin. "We're pretty sure it says, 'Iter ad monstrum domum,'" The white-haired werecat said.
"Hmm, let me write that down," Gavin said, before he grabbed a nearby napkin and a pencil and started to write on it carefully. "Okay then. Does that sound like the phrase you used yesterday?" he asked the werewolf kid.
"I don't know," The kid replied. "Maybe?"
"Well, let's find out," He said to the kid, before handing him the amulet. "Try it."
The kid nodded at that, before he looked at the amulet in his hand and said, "Clawdeen Wolf, iter ad monstrum domum," reading off the phrase on the napkin.
Gavin and the twins stood there, watching the kid intently as the seconds went by, before the kid whined and looked down. "It didn't-" Before the kid could even say the last word, he, Gavin, and the twins were all sucked into a large purplish pink orb that appeared out of nowhere.
They then found themselves falling down in the air and landing on the ground, with Gavin letting out an "Oof!" as the kid landed on his belly, while the twins landed on their hands and feet, backs arched and tails sticking straight up.
"Well," Gavin began as he slowly sat up, the werewolf kid getting off him. "I'd say it worked," he continued as he looked around and saw that they were now in a thick forest. "But where the heck are we? And why did the twins and I come with you?"
"I don't know," The kid replied, looking rather disappointed and upset. "Sorry."
"Hey, there's no need to apologize," Gavin said to the kid, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I wanted to leave that town anyway," He continued. "I just didn't know how. So, don't beat yourself up about it, alright?"
"Alright," The kid replied with a nod.
"Good," Gavin said to him, before he stood up and looked around. "I am a bit disappointed that I have to leave my stuff-"
*THUMP!*
"Ow!" Gavin said as he rubbed the top of his head, which was now sore, as a somewhat heavy object had just landed on it. "What the heck is that?!" He continued as he looked at the object, which had landed next to his feet.
Said object was a large round orb that looked like a kettlebell, except it was clear and blue in color.
"I don't know," The white-haired werecat said as she picked it up by the handle and looked at it. "It's not something I've seen before."
"Well, whatever it is, it's heavy," He said as he continued to rub his head, before he looked at himself and sighed. "I wish I was wearing different clothes too," He continued. "I'm not a fan of wandering through this forest in just my pjs."
As soon as he said that, the orb began to shine a bit, before a beam of light shot out and hit the ground nearby. When it hit the ground, a large dark brown wardrobe appeared, and the light disappeared, with his sneakers sitting on top of the wardrobe.
Everyone stared at the wardrobe with surprise. "Well, I didn't see that coming," Gavin said with shock in his voice. "But I'm not complaining. Now I can change my clothes," He continued as he walked over to the wardrobe and grabbed some clothes, before he walked around to the back of the wardrobe and changed.
Several seconds later, he walked back out, now wearing a light green short sleeve shirt, white socks, his sneakers, and green shorts. "That's better," He continued as he put his pajamas away, before the wardrobe was sucked back into the orb. "Now then, how the heck did my wardrobe get in there?!" He exclaimed as he picked up the orb and looked at it.
"I don't know," the kid and the cats replied with shrugs and unsure looks.
"It's some form of magic," The black-haired werecat said. "But it's one neither of us have seen before."
"I see," Gavin replied as he stared at the orb for several more seconds, before he sighed. "Well, it's just one more question I'll have to ask when we get to your home," he continued as he looked at the kid.
"You're coming with me?" The kid said with surprise.
"I am," Gavin replied with a nod. "You may be a werewolf, but you are also a kid. No way am I going to let you walk all the way home by yourself. I'm sticking with you until you get home." He then turned to the werecats. "As for you two, you can go wherever you want. You don't have to come with us."
"We're going with you," The two said to him immediately. "Wherever you go, we go."
"Are you sure? I mean,-" He was cut off when they narrowed their eyes at him, determined looks on their faces. "Alright. If you say so," he said to them, before he turned to the kid. "So, which way do we go?"
"I don't know," The kid replied as he looked around. "I've never been here before," He continued, before the skull amulet's eye sockets started to glow a light purple, catching their attention. Two streams of purple light then shot out of the sockets and into the air, forming a large purple arrow that pointed to the right, along with the word "Home" above it.
"Well, looks like we go that way," Gavin said with a smile, before he started to walk in the direction of the arrow, which floated before him. "Come on," He continued, prompting them to go with him, the kid right in front of him and the twins right behind him.
"So, do you two have names?" He asked the werecat twins as they walked through the forest. "I can't just keep calling you 'the twins.'"
"My name is Meowlody," the white-haired werecat replied.
"And my name is Purrsephone," the black-haired cat added.
"And we don't mind the nickname. We like it a lot, actually," Meowlody said with a smile.
"Those are nice names," Gavin replied. "I like them a lot," He continued, making the two werecats meow happily.
"Do you want to know my name?" The werewolf kid asked him.
"I do, but you don't have to tell me if you don't want to," Gavin said to the kid. "It's not a competition or anything."
"Well, I want to tell you," The kid replied. "My name's Clawnor!"
"'Clawnor,'" Gavin repeated, inwardly chuckling a bit. 'Sounds a lot like "Connor."' "That's a great name!" he said to the kid. "I like it a lot!" He continued, before the arrow changed, catching his attention. "Hey, looks like we need to go left now," He said as he looked at the arrow.
The four of them then turned to the left and headed in that direction, with the arrow still in front of them.
"I hope it doesn't take us too long to get to your home and family," He said to the kid as they walked. "Hey, what is your home like?" He asked the kid, the question having just popped up in his head.
"Oh, it's so fun!" Clawnor replied happily. "It's also a high school."
"It is?" Gavin said with surprise. "Well then, it must be pretty busy. Is it a school for just werewolves?"
"No! There are other monsters there!" Clawnor replied as he jumped onto a log and onto the ground, while Gavin and the twins stepped over the log. "Like zombies, vampires, and ghosts."
"Oh," Gavin said with surprise. "How interesting."
"Yeah, it is," Clawnor replied.
"Are there any humans at the school?" Gavin asked him.
"No, and I don't think there will be for a while," Clawnor replied. "Mommy told me how, long ago, humans and monster used to live together. But one day, humans turned against monsters, and sent us into hiding. Now, humans only think of us as legends and myths, things that aren't real."
"Oh," Gavin said with surprise. "I see. So if a human were to come to the school, it'd cause quite a ruckus?"
"Uh-huh," Clawnor replied with a nod. "More than the time Moanica attacked a ghost disguised as a human."
"Wait. A monster did that? Why?" Gavin asked the kid.
"I'm not sure," Clawnor replied. "Mommy made me and my brothers leave before we could see what else happened. But I do know she was beaten."
"Well, that's good," Gavin said, before he decided to change the subject. "So, what's your family like?" He asked the kid. "You said you had eight brothers. Are they all your age, or older?"
"They're my age," Clawnor replied.
"Wow," Gavin said with surprise. "That's gotta be hard to deal with. You nine must be a handful for your parents."
As soon as he said that, the kid's ears went down a bit. "We only have Mommy," Clawnor replied sadly. "Daddy died from a disease before we were born."
"Oh," Gavin said, his eyes widening a bit. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said to the kid, putting a hand on his shoulder. "If you want, we don't have to talk about your family."
"Okay," Clawnor replied. "There's also my older sister Clawdeen. She's fifteen, and helped Mommy raise us."
"That's very responsible and helpful of her," Gavin said. 'I guess he wants to talk about them,' He thought to himself with a shrug. "But what do you mean by 'helped?' Does she not still help your mother out with you guys?"
"Sometimes," Clawnor replied. "But she mostly does schoolwork and hang out with her friends. Mr. Dracula helps Mommy out with us now most of the time."
"'Mr. Dracula?'" Gavin repeated. "You mean the vampire from all the legends we have?"
"Mhm!" Clawnor replied with a nod as he ran along a fallen log, holding his arms out for balance. "He's really nice! And a bit old-fashioned. That's what Mommy said about him anyway."
"How interesting," Gavin said with surprise. "So, he moved into your house to help your mommy out?"
"No, the opposite!" Clawnor said with a laugh. "We moved into his house."
"Oh, I see," Gavin replied. "And how long ago was that?"
"A year and a half ago," Clawnor said. "I like where we live now. It's better than that old cave we used to live in."
"I'm sure it is," Gavin replied, before he heard the kid's stomach growl with hunger. "You're hungry already?" He asked the kid, surprise on his face.
"Mhm!" Clawnor said with a nod.
"Werebeasts, especially werewolves, have a bit of a higher metabolism than humans," Meowlody explained. "And the children of werebeasts have even higher metabolisms."
"I see," Gavin replied with some surprise. "Well, let's see if I have any food he can eat," He said, before a beam of light flew out of the orb and at the ground. When it disappeared, a large raw steak that Gavin had been thawing out for dinner the night before was sitting on a plate on the ground. "Well, I guess I do," Gavin replied. "Is it a good idea for him to eat it raw?" He asked Meowlody and Purrsephone as Clawnor picked up the steak and started to tear into it, turning into his puppy form as he did so.
"It's fine," Meowlody replied with a wave of her hand. "He said he lived in a cave, so I'd guess he's grown up eating raw meat."
"If you say so," Gavin said as he turned his attention back to the kid, who was already halfway through the steak, tail wagging as he ate. 'And it is getting closer to lunch,' He thought as he looked at his phone, seeing that lunchtime was only about an hour away.
Soon, the kid had finished eating, and the plate was sucked back into the orb. "You full?" Gavin asked the kid, who nodded, before he yawned as he changed back. "Tired?"
"Mhm," The kid replied as he rubbed his eyes and yawned again.
"Purrsephone, can you hold this?" He asked the werecat as he held out the orb.
"Sure," Purrsephone replied, taking the orb in her hands.
"Thanks," Gavin replied, before he walked over and picked the kid up in his arms. "There you go little man," He said to the kid as he yawned again. "Go ahead and rest. I got you."
"Okay, Gavin," The kid replied, before he rested his head on Gavin's shoulder and started to close his eyes. "Gavin," The kid said to him.
"Yes Clawnor?" Gavin asked the kid.
"Thanks for coming with me," The kid replied, before he fell asleep.
"You're welcome Clawnor," Gavin whispered to the boy, before turning to Meowlody and handing her the amulet. 'I hope this trip to his home doesn't take too long,' He thought to himself as he stepped over a fallen branch. 'I don't want the kid to get even more homesick than he already is. I also hope nothing bad happens on the way there.'
Well, this was an interesting chapter!
Can't wait to write more!
Clawnor acts and is quite smart and mature for his age, but he also has his moments of immaturity. That is how I am writing him.
